I'll take Divine's bait and give a serious reply. Already made one on atleast 4 other threads about AFK cloaking... but... I got some time so here goes:

I have a problem with AFK cloaking. Not because of the cloak thing, but because of the AFK thing. You may consider CODE's philosophy of AFK mining. I feel that way about AFK cloaking. If you want to spend your entire day watching, thats fine. If you enjoy just sitting there, thats fine. If you laugh when carebears dockup because of it, thats fine.

BUT

If you're dumb enuff to go AFK, I want you to lose your ship.

So what I want is an activation cycle on a cloak. Not a very short one. I mean, if you decloak while your bomber lands on grid, throwing a bomb will be... challenging.
I want a cycle that enables current gameplay to remain viable. Information warfare, spying, having eyes, scouts etc. All good. So lets say 5 min. I want a cycle that rids me of guys that slam in a cloaky and go to work for 8 hours. If you AFK, you die. Nothing personal.

Now like I said; this is not an original reply. But... still.

Cloaking is an activity. Being able to perform that activity while AFK with no ability for others to stop it is what's wrong with it.

I think I have to agree with this suggestion. Mining has a 3 minute cycle, so you can't be totally afk while you do it. AFK cloaking for 8 hours while you go to work should get you killed.

Do you feel this way about all activities that others are unable to stop?

I don't know, I don't know all of the possible activities that exist yet for me to properly answer if I'd feel this way about them or not.

If you'd like to make a thread about a particular activity that is performed while AFK in space that cannot be interfered with by other's playing EvE, feel free to make a thread about it and eventually I'll check it out and decide if it's worth responding to.

OK so you can prevent my AFK cloaking.

I issue you a challenge, a bet.

I bet you 100mil ISK that I can go into an empty system, go AFK cloaked somewhere inside of it, and you'll not be able to find and stop my afk cloaking.

After I go into this empty system and go AFK cloaked, you can bring AS MANY PEOPLE as you want to come help you find me.

If you find me, I'll pay you 100mil isk.
