So I'm not certain, but I believe that some people might have an issue with AFK cloaking. Though I see no actual evidence that others might actually hold this opinion, since I know it's a possibility it exists, I feel this thread would be a good place to discuss what I believe potentially could be the answer to a possible AFK cloaking problem.
We can't see them. So here's probably the best suggestion to afk cloaking:
Make them visible.
Just like, make it so they can't be targeted and stuff.

This is an abomination. The responses to my attempt at a very real, fresh, new, unique, and original discussion regarding an issue no one seems to see but everyone knows exists "AFK cloaking" are an outrage. Everyone is avoiding the issue and instead "trolling".
This is almost, no in fact it's even more of a flagrant abuse as the "Burn Jita" event, both being obvious and unmistakable violations of the rules listed in the EULA AND the forum's rules.
I demand CCP bring down the hammer of justice and smite ALL those who attempt to bend, twist, and shatter the rules of the game and the forums.

I'll take Divine's bait and give a serious reply. Already made one on atleast 4 other threads about AFK cloaking... but... I got some time so here goes:
I have a problem with AFK cloaking. Not because of the cloak thing, but because of the AFK thing. You may consider CODE's philosophy of AFK mining. I feel that way about AFK cloaking. If you want to spend your entire day watching, thats fine. If you enjoy just sitting there, thats fine. If you laugh when carebears dockup because of it, thats fine.
BUT
If you're dumb enuff to go AFK, I want you to lose your ship.
So what I want is an activation cycle on a cloak. Not a very short one. I mean, if you decloak while your bomber lands on grid, throwing a bomb will be... challenging.
I want a cycle that enables current gameplay to remain viable. Information warfare, spying, having eyes, scouts etc. All good. So lets say 5 min. I want a cycle that rids me of guys that slam in a cloaky and go to work for 8 hours. If you AFK, you die. Nothing personal.
Now like I said; this is not an original reply. But... still. |

Everyone and anyone who goes AFK in space runs the risk of having their ship blown up, which is how it's suppose to be. You want to go AFK in space, undocked? Ok well then you go ahead and do that, but don't complain when you come back and you're in your pod or a clone bay.
Except for cloakers. Cloakers go AFK in space with no real risk attached. According to alot of people here, risk is suppose to be prevalent throughout the entirety of EvE except when docked. Considering that statement, then if someone wishes to go cloaking around space, he shouldn't be able to do it AFK without assuming the same risk everyone else would in a non-cloaking ship.
So, a method that assesses whether or a not a person cloaking is AFK needs to be implemented to balance it with the rest of EvE.
AFK autopilot transporting goods? Run the risk of getting popped. AFK mining, run the risk of getting popped. AFK in your battleship at an acceleration gate? Run the risk of getting popped. AFK with your cloak on? No risk.
