I don't get why people keep whining about the Hybrid changes.
The chances of CCP getting the hybrid rebalance perfect in one shot is practically nill, so I'd much rather they gradually improve it till they are good, instead of going back and forth between overpowered and wimpy till they get it right. |

I think it's so/so. There's some good stuff and it's all a step in the right direction.
Faction Warfare could definitely use a buff, or some kind of its own special "Incursion" type events.
And personally, if I were CCP, I'd do away with SOV completely. If you want to 'own' a nullsec system, do so with numbers, and defending what you can hold onto, not with the ability to vomit up and defend a module. Buff the anoms etc, but remove the anchor bubbles, we have ships that do that instead of lazy people who prop a bunch on every gate every day.
Hybrids are a step in right direction.
It's a bit on the graphics heavy update-wise.
CCP had most likely planned to populate the NEX store this expansion and do a whole lot of other WiS garbage, but to stop the bleeding picked some of the most whined about things to keep the peace and goodwill flowing. I'm expecting the summer patch to be exploding with FiS goodness and fixes to the top 100 most complained about things leftover.
Walking in stations is stupid. CCP should just make EVE into 2 modules. Internet Spaceships, and Internet Space Barbies. If you want to fly in space, load that module, if you want to go play with other people at the Space Barbie glory hole, load that module. People have been playing EVE since 2003, and in almost 9 years of play, WiS has never, ever been a deal breaker.

what the hell are you talking about? you dont get why people keep whining about hybrids? try: 25% of the ships in the game are entirely useless in serious pvp scenarios, and now theyre just gonna look at fleet metrics for who knows how long. the changes, while 'beneficial', are entirely insignificant. we wont be seeing any changes in Gallente ship use. this is what everyone has been saying since the changes were announced: i.e. increasing blaster damage is unproductive if my ship keeps getting kited to death.
hybrids need huge, sweeping changes. like the once missiles, projectiles and lasers got. these changes are needed NOW, not in 6 months.
and it's beyond me why theyre calling a bunch of graphical updates an "expansion". try actually sticking to that original list and you may get a product than can be called an expansion. what we're getting on the 29th is fluff. |

Fail, simply for one reason: They've siding with carebears and turinng eveonline into Hello Kitty in Space.
It doesnt matter what they do to eve, if they continue down this road. It doesnt matter how many new ships, colors or modules they give us. They're effectively turning Eveonline into HelloKitty in Space.
From Decshield to Suicide Ganker's Insurance, EVE is becoming a carebear land full of hugs and kisses, and literally no fighting.

Since it's still not out yet I'll reserve judgement.
That said, alot of the new t2 mods seem nice. Inventors will be both busy and happy.
Pos feul chance is a step in the right direction. Not everyone will be happy but then that never happens, so overall win.
New PCO's are an adventurous jump into the unkown which could be epic win or fall, only time will tell. I call win on it just for being unpredictable and rocking the boat.
New graphics for nebula's, scanning, new font will all be very welcome if subtle changed. +Win
Dram nerf is way overdue, only time will tell if th SC nerf does what it's supposed to.
Any improvement to hybrids is welcome. While this will probably not adress the issue 100% it's welcome anway.
Buff's to exploration, new sites, more affordable t2 rigs coming soon, and the anom buff will make alot of people happy and keep them busy. +Win
Amar and Mni will no doubt be anticipating their new Tier 3 BC's with much fervor. How much entheusiasm will great the Nag and Talos waits to be seen. Have to call fail on this. Inability to ballance them before release makes it seem like they were rushed a bit or they were the last 2 touched and not well finished ( even though they're both pretty sweet looking ).
Anyone who flies Galente will appreciate the speed and inertia buff. How big an effect this has will remain to be seen but it's a step in the right direction. + Win
CCP needs to wake up to to fact that the Nationalism aspect of FW burned itself out 2 years ago. Until it becomes Good vs Evil, White Hats vs Black it just doesn't have any relevance. Other than a change like that eveyting else is just a bandaid.
Null Sec. A previous dev blob asked for input into all aspects of null. Good start but unless CCP is truely prepared to rock the boat and take some serious risks it's not going to work. No local without sov, no mobile bubbles without sov, serious bonus's to manufacturing in null. There has to be real risk with genuine rewards. And, the players need to take some of the blame. CCP makes the sandbox but it's the player base that have taken a dump in it.
Being Galente you need a healthy amount of optimism to undock but either way I'm looking forward to all the new stuff so Win and tyvm.

definit WIN... dont realy get what some of the haters in here are hurfblurfing about....
Besides the amazing graphics updates, we get a buckload of features/fixes, some of them demanded for a long time...
- Hybrid Rebalance - it happend so stop whining, no broken promises there... they promised to reiterate after seeing it on the live server, small steps are good mkay :P
- Supercap Rebalance - might very well shake up the way huge wars are fought in 0.0
- Time dilation - possibly a big step in the fight against lag, could turn out to be huge win or total fail...but a bold step nevertheless
- POS Fuel changes
- 4 New Ships with unique abilities
- Anomaly Rebalance
- New T2 Modules
- New Captains Quarters - ok well not realy looking forward to this...but a feature nevertheless...
- Player owned customs offices
And this list doesnt even include tiny changes like drones trying to return on disconnect, the combined warp jump button they are introducing, the ingame fitting tool finaly showing dps...
For me this is certainly a HUGE step in the right direction. And I am looking foward to one of the most fun expansions since a long long time... |

Win, because it's a step towards refocusing on the core game. I expect we'll get a very nice expansion for summer 2012 since the development goal is to make something on the level of Apocrypha or better. |

Hilmar P+¬tursson: That is very much what we're aiming for: a really focused awesome expansion like that, but right now we're doing the winter expansion, along the lines of our focus on flying-in-space. It's very much my hope that we achieve a fantastic expansion like Apocrypha, which was a great example of what we as a company can achieve if we really focus on a singular mission like that.
Did you really think I would say something like that without being able to back it up? |

Did you really think I would say something like that without being able to back it up? Look at the pacing of the questions... it could very easily be interpreted that he was talking about WiS in that quote. That "right now we're doing FiS in this expansion, but as soon as I can get away with it, I want to do an apocrypha-sized WiS expansion." I hope I'm wrong, but I somehow doubt it. Hilmar apparently hates EVE. He seems to wish he was working on pretty much any other game.
Also, as to the OP: The point of this expansion isn't to "fix" EVE. It's to stop EVE from hemorrhaging customers, and maybe win a couple back. It may or may not succeed at that. But OP is right. EVE will not really recover until a) nullsec is fixed and b) CCP convinces people that nullsec is fixed. Since Grayscale is in charge (he admitted in a devblog thread that he does not take feedback, nor does he even bother reading it) nullsec will probably never be truly fixed. |

This. NPC null, low, wh space and even some parts of highsec are "owned." Sov mechanics just allow someone to plant flags all over the place and only bother to come back if someone else tries to yank it out. |

Comparing to Incarna... this expansion is just pure win.
Ofc as many people said, its all small stuff. But small stuff is actually what matters the most.
And we have to note that this change of directions happened like a couple of month ago. You cannot expect them to deliver full revamps of null sec and low sec in such a short time. But what they did in these few month is very very good stuff. And if they continue like this, hopefully EVE will become a better game. For Love. For Peace. For Honor.

It is an epic win, of course.
Mostly because what is released on the 29th is not going to be all of the Crucible expansion. If you believe so, you must have completely forgotten how Incursion was released. Understandable considering the release of Incarna. Mr. Science & Trade Institute, EVE Online Lorebook-á |

Exactly.
Anything you might need to know about CCP's "new direction" can been observed by looking at the new Naga.
The reason CCP ditched the missile armament that they initially (and correctly, seeing as how it is supposed to be a Caldari ship and not a second Gallente BC) employed is that Torpedos and Cruise missiles have serious issues in PvP (which is, of course, why so few use Caldari BS's). CCP could easily correct these issues on the Naga, using bonuses, but they cannot do so without highlighting the problems with these missiles and Caldari BS's in general.
Rather than FIXING the problem, as a new direction might suggest, CCP has decided to continue their traditional half-assed approach. Which is exactly what they told us they would no longer do. |
