I have a question .....
With all the changes and tweaks going on has there been any attempt of addressing the existance of T2 BPOs?
I have seen multiple posts on this but no DEV blogs or replies.
It would be nice if this was addressed so we could have a real market based on supply and demand. Instead we have artifically deflated markets for any item that has a T2 bpo thats actively used.
It's discouraging when you go to invent something and discover that its selling for cheaper than the cost of the data cores required to even attempt invention.
Its even worse than that because even if you take your time and do the math to calulate what is profitable. After spending time training and resources producing T2 items someone can start production with a long idle T2 BPO and undercut you easily. (This could happen if someone activates and dormant account - buys the bpo from someone whos not been using it or just decides to dust off that bpo thats been collecting dust in thier hanger.)
I don't care about the lottery or how things got the way they are --- My problem with what is happening here and now.
The only point people ever make against this is "go buy a bpo" but my point is not about an individual -- its about the system itself. The BPOs affect the way the market works far beyond the people that own them. It would be the equivalent of having a special set of T1 bpos that didn't require tritanium while everyone that didnt own one was stuck with higher production costs.
If CCP does not want to change the current situation can a list of the which items have a T2 BPOs be released so we know what items to ignore when inventing and training invention skills.
Any sort of DEV relpy would be nice. Even if its just to say that CCP likes the current system. |

T2 BPOs are not an "IWIN" button for BPO holders.
Do the maths, you'll see that the (seriously) limited number of BPO for a particular item don't allow for enough things to be made to satiate market demand (on a majority of items, there are outliers that are either simply under-utilised because Meta 4 Items are better) |

Personally I couldn't give a monkeys about the T2 bpo's, but I know one thing.
Imagine you have a T2 BPO, whether or not you won it in a lottery, was left it as a player quit, or paid for it with good old isk.
How pissed off will you be if they then take it away, since they're not a seeded item, who decides what it's worth to compensate what could well have been a multi-billion isk purchase?
As with life, there will always be someone out there with better and brighter tools than you, it's up to you how you deal with that competition. If you can't compete on price for 1 thing, try inventing and selling something else.

Yes T2 BPO's suck. However if you do the math and research for as little as 5 minutes you will get an idea if someone is using a T2 BPO to make an item and then know to avoid that market or not to invest to heavily into it.
Asking for them to be removed or making T2 BPO's available to the public is just stupidity. It's like winning several million dollars on the lottery, then 5 years later after you have spent it all the lottery owners want it all back. It's just not going to happen, even though it would be nice to have access to a very remote chance of getting one.
Not having done alot of research into T2 items (just what I dabble in myself) people that have the T2 BPO's want to make as much profit as they can, just like you and me, and most of the time WANT the markets to be above invention cost because it means their product has even more profit margins. However there would be a few items with very high volume but at invention cost or lower that thye are happy to make less profit per item, due to the shear amount they sell in a given time making it worth while to 'kill' the market for inventors. |

Alisarina saying that t2 bpos suck but arguing because its been broken SO long that it should contiue to be broken. (by that logic CCP should never fix or improve anything unless it was released in the last month)
Emma is worried about how much she will get back for the stockpile of T2 bpos shes hoarding (how about paying the purchase price back to each owner)
Gatan says people are stupid anyway (This is actually support for my position becuase not only do t2 producers have to deal with the stupids they also have to deal with the ones that blueprints that dont require all the same materials) [Would you support CCP randomly handing out a special BPO of each T1 ship and module with the tritanuim and megacyte requirements removed from the bpos then telling everyone else to just "deal with it"???]

Do the math. Even with the failure rate almost every item that is not a ship and hasa T2 BPO is more profitable to invent and build than items without a T2 BPO.
As for ships, well there are decryptors which make a lot of ships very profitable to invent and build even with the huge ME penalty. Now if it's a ship that sells like 2 a day in Jita then even the T2 BPO owner isn't making any profit on it.
At least the OP gets bonus points for having a really catchy stupid name.

LOL I wish, I've not got any T2 BPO's, but how can you say what the purchase price was for compensation if you won it on the lottery, then although it didn't cost you anything, it still has a current value, and market fluctuations means that just about everything you purchase has a variable resale price.
ie - you buy a run of the mill new car and you sell it 3 years later, the price will have gone down due to depreciation etc. you buy a work of art, and sell it 3 years later, and it's anybody's guess as to what the value is, could be higher, could be lower.
I figure that most of these T2 BPO whine threads are born of jealousy, personally I couldn't care less if someone's got a T2 BPO or not, nor how they got it. If they can rake in Billions a day then so what? a fat wallet isn't everything in life. |

You may not notice it, but in fact it is being addressed. T2 BPOs seem to be staying exactly as they are.
fido gotran over wrote:It would be nice if this was addressed so we could have a real market based on supply and demand. Instead we have artifically deflated markets for any item that has a T2 bpo thats actively used.
We do have a market based on supply and demand, and that includes supply and demand of T2 BPOs.
Asking for action with regards to T2 BPOs without really explaining what the issue is doesn't help much.
fido gotran over wrote:The BPOs affect the way the market works far beyond the people that own them.
I would really be interesting in seeing a situation where this has actually been the case. I know many people involved in T2 production and invention who throw their arms up in the air and claim it's all due to the T2 BPOs without looking at the real issues in their markets. Furthermore - so what? I would say Technium moons affect the way the market works far FAR beyond the people who own them. This in itself is not a bad thing.
And just for the record:
1) I do not hold, nor have ever held, T2 BPOs. 2) I am an active inventor and producer of T2 modules and ships. As such I know that my real competitors are other T2 inventors, very rarely if ever have I seen T2 BPO holders as driving force within the T2 market. |

i invent 1000's of times a month, i can tell you for a fact that invention of some items is highly profitible(yes there are t2 bpo's for these items). the market has cycles in price, watch the waves in the market and ride them if you can.
t2 bpos are not the problem/issue. lack of research is the problem. |

They exist. They've existed for a long time. CCP admitted that the lottery was one of their biggest mistakes. No more will be seeded. Removing them will hurt Eve more than help it. You can get one the same way most BPO owners got theirs. The handful of players that got theirs in the lottery could (Should?) have sold a LONG time ago and made far more trading with their windfall. |

Breaker77 and Servitor 001 are saying thatt T2 BPOs cost more to manufacture with than invetion --
All invetion has a -4 ME (unless you use the decryptors which add millions to the cost and can even make the ME worse) Then you have to add the cost of copying Then you have to add the cost of the data cores Then you have to add the rate of failure
T2 BPOs can be researched so they use less materials and they dont require all the incidental costs of invention.
I'll give one example and tell me if I'm missing something.
T2 Veldspar minig crystals Invetion takes - Laser Physics datacore - 2 - Buy price in Amarr 185,000 apiece Electronics engineering datacore 2 - Buy price in Amarr 210,000 apiece For a total of 790,000 per attempt
The T2 veld crystals are selling for 60,000 apiece Thats 600,000 for a 10 run copy
Now ignoring the cost of Running the invention The time spent copying The cost of materials TO ACTUALLY BUILD IT And the rate of failure wich would require MORE datacores
You begin with a 190,000 isk LOSS per 10 run print to even TRY to invent With a 50% failure rate thats 380,000 LOSS before you add the 220,000+ cost for everything else
T2 BPO not even researched takes (THESE ARE SELL PRICES rounded up just for worst case profit on BPO) 28 Nocxium -- (482*28) 13496 1 hypersyanptic fiber -- 5000 1 veldspar crystal -- 15,000 and 1.5% of a R.A.M. Elec -- (45000*0.015) 675
for a total cost of 34171 isk per unit 60000 - 34171 = 25829 profit per unit and profit would only go up if the person set buy orders and build thier own t1 crystals
So for 10 units like above there is a minimum of 258290 profit for ten units with a T2 BPO And for Invention its a 600,000+ loss
THIS is why I want a DEV comment on this. I don't know who is producing these crystals so I cannot say that it MUST be T2 BPOs. MAYBE people are REALLY this stupid MAYBE T2 BPOs are not being used to kill this market MAYBE T2 BPOs dont have any affect on any items in the game and everything is fine.
OR maybe the current system is FUBARed, so the only step now is to figure out HOW we can address the issue and make the market fair for everyone.
AS far as Ideas for solutions there are many ways to address it
1) Add datacores as a cost (relative to how many datacores it takes per unit with lvl5 skills) to T2 bpos and make them all -4 ME -- They would still have the benefit of unlimited runs and no invention steps to deal with.
2) Remove them from the game and pay the owners the isk values that they paid for them.
3) Remove them from the game and pay the owners some multiple of what the items cost on market or an approxamation of what they would sell for on contrats relative to past sales.
4) combine 2 and 3 and pay the higher value |

The market is fair for everyone. Gather several (or several hundred) of your closest friends, pool your cash, and buy a BPO. Just like the major alliances did during the lottery. Just like they continue to do today.

Not one bit.
I was part of an industrial alliance during and shortly after the lottery. Those BPOs were not something that individual players bought for their own personal use. They were corp assets paid for with corp funds, and their profits funded the corperation's expansion.
Today, you can get them for prices that individual players can actually pay (granted, reasonably wealthy players). Earlier today, there were 15 T2 BPOs on the 1st 4 pages of the WTS forum, and not trash ones either. |

You completey miss the point. I am saying that the BPOs cannot co-exist with invention.
Its the equivalent of having a bunch T1 bpos out there without the Tritanium requirements. The people that have them would have a special advantage. I'm not saying that they MUST get rid of the BPOs I am saying that the current system is fundametally flawed.
They could fix it like I mentioned before OR Maybe they should just seed T2 BPOs on the market and get rid of invention completey.
I REALLY don't care HOW they fix it as long as it levels the playing field for everyone. |

It would be that way only if those T1 BPOs without the trit reqs cost ten or a hundred thousand times what it cost to simply use the normal BPOs.
The Light Neutron Blaster II auction running right now is at 10b isk. I could toss my bid on that auction, or I can keep paying ~4,500isk/run to invent them. Considering that the market prices for that module are currently 120% over my cost after invention, I'll keep inventing.

I am not arguing that ALL T2 BPOs are killing every market. But there are some to where it clearly looks like it. The cheaper items that lower skilled people would build first would be more heavily affected especially because the cost of the invention would greatly affect the per item cost. I have given one clear example.
I have specifically asked for a DEV post on this because they have access to the data that can show how much the T2 BPOs are REALLY affecting the market. |

Yes they would cost a lot just like the T2 bpos do so its a good example.
You are giving an specific example of where you are making good profit but my argument is about the system as a whole.
Don't you get a 10 run copy from inventing them? If you get a 10 run copy how is invention costing you 45,000?
Even with buy prices the cores cost over 340,000 and thats for ONE attempt. With 50% failure rate thats ~680,000 plus the cost of the invention slot. (if you have lvl5 skills this will lower the cost a little bit)
So how much profit per item are you really getting??? |

If we say that the production cost via invention for a ship is 150m isk, and a bpo holder can build it for 100m. Exactly why would the bpo holder, whose single print in most cases can't even cover the market demand of a single day, try to sell for 145m to ruin the inventor's day, instead of seliing for 180m like they are?
Since a single bpo can only run a single production line, there is no way to increase profit by increasing output via parallel builds. So why would one voluntarily give up half the profit? |

This include Ship, Module and Ammo. The exert you read about 1/3 of T2 being produced from BPO were after you EXCLUDE Ammo.
Regardless, you want to seed T2 BPO and completely **** over those players who took the time to train invention skills and acquire blueprint and manufacturing line to build t2 items? Do you actually build and sell anything? I sell my stuff cheaper than the stuff other people put up. If more stuff is put for sale up than sells the price goes down. If less items then the price rises because the cheaper stuff gets bought. Your idea looks at one sale and one order.
The problem is that it is possible the BPO owners in your example could produce enough to over time make the price 160m per ship and get it to where inventors risk alot if they hit an unlucky streak. Are the BPO owners suddenly going to stop production just because they are only making 60 mil per ship? how about 50? or 40? 30? Long after the inventors have gone the BPO owners can make bank ALL DAY LONG.
NOONE is addressing my example with the mining crystals . . . They are just making other "what if" examples of isolated incidents and not looking at the bigger picture. |

The distribution of Tech II production jobs installed had 3% installed with a BPO and 97% installed with a BPC, as can be seen in the figure below. This include Ship, Module and Ammo. The exert you read about 1/3 of T2 being produced from BPO were after you EXCLUDE Ammo.
"Figure 21: Distribution of the total number of completed Tech II manufacturing jobs between blueprint types. Most jobs are installed with BPCs obtained through invention as Tech II BPO owners tend to install jobs with a large amount of runs."
OK when it says 3% thats >>> INSTALLED JOBS <<< BPC job for T2 expanded cargo = >> 10 RUNS << and 10 T2 expanded cargo BPO job for T2 expanded cargo = >> 100 RUNS << and 100 T2 expanded cargo
"Tech II BPOs can be used to install a manufacturing job with an unlimited number of production runs provided that the job completes within 30 days being installed. On the other hand, a Tech II BPC has a limited amount of runs and will be consumed once all the runs are used up. There are much fewer BPO jobs installed than BPC jobs even though BPO jobs account for one third of all Tech II items produced (excluding drones and ammo)."
JOBS =/= RUNS
If your gonna throw data at me at LEAST know what your throwing.
How many "jobs" there were doesnt really matter - its how many ITEMS are produced and how the number of ITEMS affects the market.

I am giving suggestions of HOW to fix the current situation. If the bpos were seeded then the invention skills would not be needed so CCP would refund them just like they have for ALL the other skills like learning and the social skills they changed
I am NOT saying that this is the only solution or even the BEST solution I am just talking about possible ways of fixing this problem. |

Are you trying to say that thousands of hulk invention jobs per day make more profit than the extremely limited number of Hulk BPOs? Of course you are!!
It's a clear case of Economies of Scale.
A T2 BPO can only make X number of items per day.
An inventor can invent and build as many items as they have slots and time for*.
Is it better to make 5 million ISK profit per item but only make 10 items per day (50 mil profit) or 1 million ISK per item but build 100 items (100 mi profit)?
That is why T2 BPOs are so overrated. They can only produce X number of items per day while with invention an almost unlimited number of items can be produced.
*note - people who own T2 BPOs can also invent as well, most of which do so.

Invention Cost = (2 * 185,000 + 2 * 210,000) / 50% / 10 = 158,000 per crystal
BPO Supply >= Demand, so there is no point inventing these. (Unlike say Hulks which also have BPO. Hulk demand is so high that it probably is the single largest factor determining the market price of Crystaline Carbonide next to reaction POS fuel costs).
Why do people always attack T2 BPO (I don't own any) and not the criminal price of datacores?
Personally, I'm thrilled some BPO owner is building Veldspar II crystals cheaper than I could. Just like I'm thrilled they determine the cost of some low volume T2 stuff that would have sky-high prices otherwise. |

If the OP did some actual research on the forums he would find that there have been numerous discussions about this already. All of them have resulted in that tech 2 BPO's are not a problem really. I do believe also that CCP has stated that they will not remove the tech 2 BPOs.
Also if they are removed what would be a fair compensation for them?
For your info also I have done invention and can easily clear close to 10 bil profit in a month, more if I have a corp helping?
Also do research in what is profitable, if it is not, don't invent it and complain about the lack of profit in it. |

"During Q2 2009, approximately 350,000 Tech II ships were manufactured by 6,920 different characters. 56% of these ships were produced with BPOs, and the remaining 44% were manufactured with BPCs," It gets even spicier when you filter out those T2 ships for which there no BPO. And when you see the number of BPOs responsible for that productionshare. But tbh you are most likely going to fight in vain. Sure they admit the lottery was a mistake, but for years we have had this discussion (a few times per year usually). A correction of that mistake has not been forthcoming.
They are apparently locked in the thought that BPO must stay and that invention must keep sucking in comparison.
What irks most people is not just the invention cost (getting a BPC, cores, decryptors, towerhours and whatnot) it is also, specially for the bigger items, the inherent ME disadvantage.
In a nutshell, it is about having to pay a considerable price (invention costs) for a unreliable process (inventions jobs can fail) that gives you a inferior result (bad ME BPC). |

basically, HTFU Lets do the polarity change test on your "if you think T2 BPO is better"
If you really did not think that T2 BPO is better, which is what you are implying, you could choose to *not care*. It can hardly be negatively impacting you that some do think so, if you dont. They would then, to you, represent a business opportunity, placing high value on something you do not think has high value. Or you could care and be a lot more constructive about it, instead of sounding very butthurt that someone is, again, drawing attention to this embarassing subject.
Anyone who defends the status quo in this clearly has something at stake. Holders Connection/dependency on holders. Devs/CCPers.
Same old story every time. I don't know who got sacked recently, but ccp'ers are people too and some have in the past caused CCP to look too proud and outright corrupt. Its not all hello kitty and my little pony and you would do well to remember that.

I love how idiots assume anyone against T2 BPO changes must own a BPO.
I don't own one. I never have. I have never invented something. I did some T3 production when whs first came out because it was lucrative as hell.
Guess what? One does not need a personal stake in this to know that the current situation is working quite well. The initial implementation of T2 BPOs was a disaster in itself. Invention however rectified the issue quite well. If you are not an idiot invention is immensely more profitable than T2 BPO production, albeit more work.

The T2 BPOs greatest effect is putting downward pressure on products they produce, no different then cheap labor in China.
Here is an example:
You can manufacture a hair dryer for $2.00 in China and sell it for $20 bucks locally (x10 margin). This is analogous to holding a T2 BPO max researched.
You can manufacture a hair dryer for $9.00 locally and sell it for $90 bucks (x10 margin). This is analogous to invention lets say based on the arguements.
Now imagine you can only create 50 hair dryers in China and 300 locally.
IF we only has the 50, supply and demand would raise prices as people complete for the 50 hair dryers. However no one wants to buy $90 dollar hair dryers either. The T2 BPO forces the price of the locally owned hair dryers down to say $40. What happens when the 50 cheap hair dryers are consumed?
Several Things Can Happen (STCH)
1)No one buys the $40 hair dryer and wait for more $20 hair dryers. (Often the case) 2)They lower the price to $20 and get virtually no margin, however can provide more of them (so volume makes up the difference in profitability) 3)The price of the $20 hair dryer from China increases and the $40 decreases until a parity is achieved. The problem is this increases the margin of the China manufacturer who can buy out more raw material to make said hair dryer forcing the local competition to either pay more for material (and driving up their cost to manufacture even more) until they are out of business because they can manfacture with a profit. (This is the OP's gripe it seems, but since minerals are near infinite).
There is an economic imbalance that has created massive Cost of Entry barriers to established industries and key goods. Because of the imbalance inflation is barely under control and key markets have been cornered. While in real life we have groups like the SEC, WTO, Reserve Banks, and a lot of real world regulation, Eve has virtually none in the form of regulation so many, if not all of you spouting on how things work "in Real Life" in real life there would be a massive amount of regulation controlling just about everything going on in the market. There are no export controls, tarrifs, environment regulation, import\export agreements, transportation costs in the form of fuel, etc. All we have is a weak tax system that in context doesn't make any sense except as a sink. So no, Eve doesn't operate like the 'real world'. If you think that you need to take a few more credits worth beyond high school macro and micro economics.
Now is the OP right? Depends on how 'real' you want Eve to be. If Eve was real, the BPOs would be irrelevant because the raw material would be in such tight in supply the 1% that have the BPOs wouldn't be able to complete with the bulk of players for mineral demands. A 1%'er might bid 100,000,000,000,000 trit at 3.00 for a bulk order but there is just that much demand split between thousands of others that would pay 3.10. However, since minerals are nearly unlimited in Eve tempered only by the time and effort a player, put in to mining, that scenario doesn't work. We are luck enough though that how the manufacturing system works in Eve, it compensates (poor imho) for that missing component of the economy. The problem is Eve is almost whimsically vulnerable (due to no regulation) to just about every economic exploit possible lending Eve to what Anti-Trust regulations were created for. Eve is a larger Corporate Trust simulator. So everyone proclaiming how "Eve is Real", so do you want CCP to kick in the Anti-Trust regulations now or after the up-coming expansion? Yeah... thought so... back to a game now...
The more power you give the 1% the more capable they are of controlling the market indefinitely, which is how real life works. Question is can people playing a game stomach that in a game too?
From a game play standpoint does it make sense to keep the T2 BPOs in the game now that we have invention? No, it doesn't. T2 BPO lottery was a bad idea to begin with.
Does it need to be removed? No 'need' isn't the operative word. Should? Yes.
Is there a fair way to do that? No, there isn't. Period. Nothing will be FAIR in context to the T2 BPOs. Fixing will **** off alliances and people profiting off them. Not fixing them discourages new players from getting involved in manufacturing when they realize, as has been shown, the disproportionate costs between invention and T2 BPOs. The Power of Scale is irrelevant since there is no immediate need in a game, everything in a game is want remember? Yes we are back to Game vs Real Life.
But to play advocate to those "Eve is Real" types I offer this solution to CCP: "In real life we would just eminent domain the BPOs in question and provide them a compensation package decided by CCP."
I mean as easy as the Pro-BPO crowd say invention is then the BPOs going away should be a minor issue correct? I mean if BPOs don't impact the market then getting rid of them with a one time cash compensation should be good for Eve's economy. After all that whole Power of Scale thing should keep things moving along just fine.

1 ship in 10 is still a significant number, especially given that this ship can make one daily at a lower price and force the inventors to compete for price.

I put this up to have a discussion about this topic. I am not wanting SPECIAL treatment. My major point is that the system is not equal for everyone. Saying "go buy one" is not a solution because I am talking about how the BPOs affect the market as a whole across all items. Yes it is possible to buy one and be one of the few but me owning one does not change the affect that T2 BPOs have on the market for the MAJORITY of people. The BPOs devalue their skills and make invention even more high risk of a venture.
You are the one being narrowminded and short sighted. You are the one who seems incable of seeing the whole picture.

Ok, I'll try a civilized response
I'm not sure why people assume that the people who are producing off a t2 BPO are undercutting them. I'll break it down why this is not the case.
Just because you make yours cheaper than the inventors, why on earth would you sell it cheaper when you can just as easily sell at the going rate? And you make such a small quantity that you don't need to dump it on market at bargain prices. The exceptions are very slow selling and generally terrible items where the BPO owner will go under invention price just to make something out of it.
That is why I'm saying T2 bpos are having next to no impact on the market except making people jealous even though you can make more profit per item inventing and mass producing. You may say there are exceptions that do sell lower. I will go ahead and agree but will add that their products never end up competing with yours. This is because in all likelihood their stock is bought up by traders and re listed at going rate.
Where the t2 BPOs have a huge advantage is the ease of operation. Just gather materials and pop them in the oven for a month. Collect goods. To make things one step simpler, some producers will decide to just sell their stock straight to buy orders and still make a profit. Less profit than the inventor but far more convenient and easier game play. Again, no impact on you as from then on you're competing with the resellers.
Now you may say this is unfair but really EVE is all about getting an edge isn't it? Who says everyone has to be on an even footing. There is unfairness everywhere but most have created that advantage themselves. Grinding isk to buy a t2 bpo(s) so they can chill and make consistent income knowing they have a valuable asset to sell off in the future. People manipulating the market with a 100bil isk is also unfair, so is other producers undercutting your 100 products with their 2000, people blobbing up to take the good moons in 0.0, more organized groups evicting you from your profitable wormhole etc etc... It's everywhere.
There is this perceived hardship out there which is not justified. Eve is what you make of it. |

It's is pretty ******* dumb to assume that T2 BPOs define prices on T2 items as a whole. Of course, as someone mentioned earlier in this thread, on some lesser used items it does.
But take something like a Hulk do you remember how much those were before invention? Beacause I do 450ish mill, right now they're less than 220m, which, along with the fact that the subscriber base has increased since then, is a pretty damn good proof that demand wasn't met with only the BPOs.
Lets say that 200 Hulk BPOs exist (it's WAY WAY WAY less than that, I think less than 10). Now, those 200 people producing from their BPOs they will be able to undercut inventors, I wont argue that, but remember their supply is limited so it will dry up at some point.
Now they're trying to sell their stuff, they all put up their orders at the exact same time, what will the price be playing 0.01 isk games? It will be 2 isk less than inventors are willing to sell for. 2 isk. Even if they all undercut by 100 isk, it's only 20k isk less than inventors are willing to sell for, hell lets even make it a 1k isk undercut each, that's 200k below the price inventors will be willing to sell for.
Who, in their right mind, will be willing to produce a Hulk and only make 200k profit? No one, with a brain, which means that when inventors stop being willing to compete, a build and sale will still not result in a loss, and the price will only be terrible until the BPO owners stock sells out (which it will on every "popular" item, at which point you're only competing with other inventors, so they are the ones ******* up the market. Why don't they go bankrupt? I guess the posfuel they mine themselves along with the datcores they research themselves is free, I dunno.
Does this mean I think that T2 BPOs are good for the game? No in no way. But I do believe there's no good way to remove them without screwing some people over majorly. No one is losing from the BPOs being in the game but some people are gaining fat on it. If it was the other way around that tons of people lost on it and no one gained anything, sure I'd be for removing the BPOs but as of now, I really see now need..
Also inb4 accuastion of me owning a T2 BPO, I don't, have I thought about buying one? Hell yea But I just don't have the cash to invest for a ~12% ROI/Year invesment (6 year breakeven point, that was pretty standard on any highdemand item when I was considdering getting one) |

Oh, wow, arrived very late to a "T2 BPOs are the devil, burn'em" party thread, I see ? Serves me right to go on a honeyweek
Let's just say the horse has been beaten to death into a bloody pulp, dried, snorted, micturated, decanted, re-dried and sold as novelty souvenirs in the following long-running thread in the old forums (got to page 40, post #1185 before the old forums closed down): http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1360780 alternatively, http://eve-search.com/thread/1360780
If you're trying to restart the argument, you will surely find just about any opinion in there, and just about every possible explanation as to why it doesn't really matter all that much either way, then the counter to that too.
...
VERY LONG STORY SOMEWHAT SHORT, the "solution" to the T2 BPO "problem" is NOT fiddling with them in any way at all, but instead looking at the INVENTION PROCESS (namely, the cruddy output ME/PE levels) and the moon mineral distribution (or at least alternative advanced material production options).
[sarcasm] Yes, the solution to the non-existing problem of T2 BPOs has absolutely nothing to do with T2 BPOs. Go figure. [/sarcasm]
...
ASSUMING for some reason CCP decides to NOT improve invention and NOT refactor the moon products chains in any way, this is what the EXISTENCE of T2 BPOs does right now, and how their removal would basically do more harm than good:
* they keep a few low-volume items within the realm of "practical to use once in a blue moon" as opposed to "hell no, are you crazy, nobody uses those" by providing them below a price level that would be possible via invention ; ALL ITEMS THAT DO TRADE A SIGNIFICANT VOLUME ARE PROFITABLE TO INVENT ANYWAY, AND THE PRICE LEVEL IS SET BY INVENTORS FOR THOSE ITEMS, NOT BY BPO OWNERS
* they make all moon minerals at least a bit cheaper, especially the bottleneck ones, and hence all T2 items as a whole slightly cheaper; if all items would need to be invented because no more T2 BPOs would exist, the bottleneck moongoo(s) - currently, Technetium - would become radically more expensive, T2 items would increase in price noticeably while at the same time the number of T2 items produced would go down (while the game's population share that can potentially use T2 items keeps going up)
* YOU CAN NOT DEVISE A SYSTEM FOR THEIR REMOVAL THAT WILL NOT EITHER SCREW UP THE GAME'S ECONOMY OR END UP BEING GROSSLY UNFAIR- in this case, "fair" would mean "compensate with either how much the BPO is worth now or price it was purchased at, whichever is higher" - the ungodly amount of disposable ISK dumped into the system would make just about everything explode in price... which would mean the initial compensation would become "unfair" shortly after it was dispensed (and so on and so forth)
...
T2 BPO owners carve out a (mostly) PERCEIVED (and not necessarily real) "first right to sell" slice from the market, but their profit is capped by a sales price at a maximum rough value around the invention profitability breakeven (give or take depending on the swing of the market, phase of the moon or whatnot else).
For everything else, it's all inventor-vs-inventor market PvP (with the occasional trader thrown in) that causes all the PERCEIVED grief of some inventors.
In markets where T2 BPOs have any meaning whatsoever, an inventor would need to be a complete idiot to even consider entering, and as such he'll get exactly what he deserves.
...
The vast majority of T2 BPOs (by count) yield a pathetic profit ; in many cases, well below the potential profit that can be obtained with the same amount of slots busy with T1 production (at a fraction of the cost).
For the vast majority of T2 BPOs that *are* reasonably profitable (that being a minority of the total number of T2 BPOs), the current owner is NOT the original owner, the market already decided what the "fair price" for the T2 BPO should be, and that person PAID IT at the time. In fact, quite a few of those have switched owners many times already.
...
Bottom line ?
If you think T2 BPOs are overpowered, just freaking buy one. If you can afford them but you think they cost too much, then they can't be overpowered. If you can't afford them, then that's just envy... and you should HTFU or STFU (or both).
You can't eat your cake but still have it intact afterwards. http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Contributor_name:Akita_T#Contributions_link_collection |

It's a matter of principle. Why should CCP screw over people (and incidentally destroy high value assets) to placate a few whiners who can't even come up with a serious reason to remove T2 BPOs? I do indeed have something at stake, the integrity of the game. Among other things, this is a capitalist simulation. If CCP kept taking stuff away just because not everyone had it, then it wouldn't be Eve any more.
T2 BPOs got introduced by a lousy mechanic. Too bad. Their presence has been fixed by invention. There's nothing left to complain about except that some people have stuff you want. There's already an in game mechanic to fix that. Save your isk and buy one.

The bpo's that are 'killing the market' are bpo's for items that no one wants.
Those items ONLY sell in volumes a bpo's can produce. so a bpo owners can meet the demand and because of high pe, they can always beat the inventors al long as the item remains low demanded.
However, since the market is huge -- MUCH larger than the amount of BPO's - these rare items are irrelevant. For any item that has market volume exceeding BPO production rate, invention is more profitable, since you can invent and build unlimited amounts at the same time, while with bpo you can only have as much manufacturing jobs as you have bpo's at the same time.
In other words - if a BPO is controlling an item supply, then this item is useless junk. who cares about useless junks?
If there were no BPO for junk items, the profit for those items would be exactly 0 anyway since any raise in price would cause overproduction and immediate price plummeting. No sane inventor would bother with such items since before production you check market history and realise that any sensible volumes you produce would flood the market so you won't be able sell it.
And no you don't have to invent and build something to find out the item you built can't return the initial investment. You know, there are such things as data dumps and market research BEFORE you even begin to invent or buy materials for the batch. |

4) combine 2 and 3 and pay the higher value
actually this .... it is quite easy to see which t2 BPOs are used on the market if u see the prices.
In past few weeks I am quite active on the carebare side and it is one of the annoying parts u see as an inventor and t2 builder. Some things are not profitable even with buy orders for materials.

Well, maybe you should take a look at the copy time of T2 BPO. For your example of Hammerhead II it will take longer time to make a copy at a POS lab than it takes to build a Hammerhead II (think the same is valied for most/all T2 BPO). So by doing copies you will lower your production, not increase it!.
Even, with a T2 Hammerhead II BPO you will not be able to make 1500 copies, max is 100.
And about cost of Hammerhead II, they sell at jita for 540k p/u at the moment. And if you know your math you should know an inventer will make profit at that price level!
So what are you trying to say?

as of datacores, well you need 2 of them to make 5 runs on average so it's 136k per drone with your figure. as long as profit per drone is more than that, it's profitable. |

Research Copy Time - Max Copies (With Science Skill Bonus) Level 1: 2 days, 15 hours, 20 minutes Level 2: 2 days, 12 hours Level 3: 2 days, 8 hours, 40 minutes Level 4: 2 days, 5 hours, 20 minutes Level 5: 2 days, 2 hours
Research Copy Time - Single Copy (With Science Skill Bonus) Level 1: 6 hours, 20 minutes Level 2: 6 hours Level 3: 5 hours, 40 minutes Level 4: 5 hours, 20 minutes Level 5: 5 hours
Invention Time 1 day, 1 hour
Just for ***** and giggles, let's say we run 10x 1-run copies. we've spent 2d 2h making covetor BPC (and 27 days for the hulk BPC).
For simplicity's sake, we'll assume you have 5/5/5 skills for a final invention result of 25% success.
so in 3 days of covetor copying/invention you have ~ 2 -4/-4 BPC in 3 days of copying, you have ZERO 0/0 BPC After 30 days of invention you'll end up with approximately twenty-five -4/-4 BPC as opposed to TEN 0/0 BPC from the BPO. |

Posting in another long run T2 bpo's are the devils business thread.
Things I have worked out over the last 7 years.
Before invention T2 bpo's set the supply with greater demand prices were high. VERY HIGH compared to today
T2 cap recharger 15 20 mill PDU 2 5-7 mill
Hulk 500 mill iirc
Once invention matured increased supply from invention and slightly increased demand from game growth lead to prices slightly above invention build prices.
In an unconstrained production system to say you need you bpc at 0 or 4 instead of -4 or -2 won't in the long term won't make you more profit.
As a group inventors determine the profit from which they are willing to do the work for. With no way to differentiate from each other you will always be building at just above manufacture.
Invention set the quantity not bpo's
having several t2 bpo's all I can say is I produce from about 1/3 of them i have modules and ammo no ships which have a greater proportion on quantity.
I do have a veldspar t2 bpo which the initial poster talked about all i can is its not worth me making them with a bpo advantage why does anyone do it using invention beats me.
awaiting with baited breath the next great T2 bpo's are the devils business thread. |

Rainrider wrote:Ever looked and a Hulk BPO????? you can make copies with 10 runs each........ so go ahead invent use the invertion process to make a 100 Hulk I will just run off 100 10 run BPC from my BPO and mine BPC with be ME zero (like I'm not going to research it )

I too do not own a T2 BPO, but I have done Invention and I can tell you it's cheaper to buy most of the items from the open maket Most of the time......yes I too can find items that you can make isk at with invention
(see posts regarding Hanmmerhead II) Yes, you obviously don't own a T2 BPO, nor do you know how T2 BPOs work. So, stop spouting nonsense here and go back to your cave. |

what I can not make copies my my T2 BPO? make 5 1500 run T2 BPC (lets say Hammerhead II) Look the invertion and production of just ONE hamerhead is just under 920K isk do the F-in math and yes I will sell you 1500 Hammerhead II today at a special cost to you on only 920,001isk per unit
So what are you trying to say? the buy order for the datacore need to do the invention are 680,000isk or do you get then free?????
No I donGÇÖt get them for free, I assume the Jita sell order prices which I hope you can accept as a fair one.
Since my math apparently must be much weaker than yours, please enlight me of whats the big error below are:
Jita sell order price_ Datacore - Electronic Engineering -> 210K each Datacore - Mechanical Engineering -> 225K each
You need 2 of each so total data core cost per attempt is 870k (higher than your buy order value) The success rate is 48%, so the cost for a successful (you get a 10-run copy) invention are 1812k. This means that the invention cost for one Hammerhead II is 182k.
Now buy the remaining material (from Jita sell order) you need for one hammerhead and add the costs, and it will be under 540k.

Drone invention is out of whack but I suspect it has nothing to do with T2 BPOs and a lot to do with PI.
Specifically the massive stocks of PI materials that most drone producers stocked up before PI was introduced. In practice this means that you are competing with someone who bought their robotics and guidance systems at around 7000 isk each.
Which yeah... makes it impossible to compete currently with invention.
What I really don't understand is why those people don't just sell their PI stock on the market and laugh at the profits - it would be about equivalent profit wise and a lot less hassle.
Mind you the market seems to be stabilizing now. |
