I've posted on this topic in the past, but I'm going to post again b/c it's been some time since I have last.
Station containers were introduced to the game due to player demand for a way to organize our hangars. We wanted folders, the devs gave us cans... ok, I can deal with that, especially now that the auto-lock can be turned off. Now I love'em, can't imagine life without them. Oh wait, yes I can, it's called 0.0.
Why in the good Lord's name would you guys introduce a method of station organization that is unavailable to the people that need it most? Before station cans, I used multiple stations for organization since almost every system has more than 1 station. Also, items tend to build up alot more in 0.0 due to the need to transport them great distances, leading to sparser trips and greater item buildup until the next run to empire space.
We 0.0 dwellers NEED to be given a viable way to organize our hangars. GSCs are too limited in space and we don't have the multiple station option. I propose that station cans are made transportable while packaged only. Make'em 10000m3 when packaged or something, so that it isn't easy to transport them but viable to put them on a convoy or something.
Or maybe make them available at 0.0 stations, make an exception for the "no npc items in player owned static stations" rule. I dunno, do something, b/c it's ridiculous to me that we are denied the only decent means by which to organize our inventories.

Well, this isn't the best replacement but it's one way to handle it.
Freighters use these containers, General Freight Containers, which can be used to organize things in freighters in transporting things. They are 120,000m3 in size. 100K mass so a single freight trip can bring a handful down. It's what I use in a couple stations to help the situation.
Although I would prefer the station containers

I'm of the opinion that stations and outposts (and motherships/Titans naturally) should as a function of their existence produce however many station containers (so say, they'll put like 12000 on the market per day, and buy them back at the same rate they sell them) as people might need to buy. Call it a function of the station services that they keep these things available.
This way station containers are available to everyone, everywhere, in a way that is consistent with the universe.
Alternatively, just release some BPO's for them and alter them so while packaged they only take up a few hundred m3 (it's basically a giant box, a giant box is tiny when flat packed).

I like that idea alot... that's a good way to justify it by continuity, make it a service of all stations/outposts.

I agree with him. Also in POS Corporate Hangar Arrays, it would be nice if we could repackage items in hangar so they can stack because after using an item, repackaging and putting it back would be very nice and convienient. Also being able to use secure cans interms of C.H.A. so each player doesn't need to have his/her own division, but can have their own protective stuff. I mean it seems like a simple thing to add in.
Impossible is nothing. |

Edited by: Drizit on 30/06/2006 00:57:04 Seed BPO's for station containers.
Also this can help by removing the NPC sell orders in stations where player orders are available. Create a player market for them as well.
Make them in the station/POS that they are needed. No need to transport them at all.

While we're on the subject, how about containers remember their own position/size... allow for a default setting [so that we can put space cans where we want them by default] and have all cans remember their own setting, make it a client side setting so that it doesn't have to be stored on the servers.

I would like to see this idea come to light, POS's are full of items all over the damn place until we truck cans in and/or empty the damn things to a station to be refined down.

If they find their way to 0.0 one thing should be done. They should only give like 1 tritanium when refined, because if alliances/corps can buy them indefinetely, it would be a great source of minerals especially during war time.

The alternative is just to give us BPO's for them, and make the packaged station container only take up say 10-40 m3 of cargo space, but the assembled container take up the full 1,000,000 m3. That way, we can put them in stations w/o manufacturing capability.

I would expect this to be very easy for CCP to do. Or at least allow multiple hangars. In current form, I have around 400 items in my item hangar. This means every time I dock, I get heavy lag while all the items are being generated. This would likely be killing a hamster each time.
Either introduce station containers of some sort, or bring out multiple hangars (even if at a fee).
Say station charges 5,000 isk a month for a second hangar. Goes up in cost for more hangars. Set amount of hangars for rent in a station, and price increases if the station has no free hangars.
The way I am about to resort to, is building 10 Iteron mk 5's , and using their cargoholds as hangars. It is sad that this is required off such a simple issue. I hope CCP finds it in their hearts to bring such an easy addition to the game in a timely fashion.

Make a way to sort the inventory into different sections, it could be client-side, so increase to server load, and probably wouldn't be very hard to code it.. PLX!?

This really needs to be done. I am getting frustrated at the fact that CCP complains that there is not enough people in 0.0, yet continues to make life difficult for us.
1) Seed station containers or the BPO's. 2) Let us search in cans (or give us some darn folders!) 3) Fix POS hangers (allow member hangers) 4) Let us refine more then 1 type of ore at a POS. 5) Let us refine rat loot at a POS. 6) Let players store individual ships at a POS without risk of another player taking it. 7) Allow more corporate divisions. 8) Allow more then 1 player to use corporate hanger arrays or ship maintenance arrays at a time.
I know I added some POS features in here, but really, POS's are pretty useless in their current state other then claiming sov.

/signed Station containers are needed in 0.0 space. Also,, 7 hanger divisions was nice when the game first came out, but now with new content there is a need for more divisions. I have had to redo our hanger divisions twice to keep up with the content. Used to have a hanger for ammo,, then one for mods. I had to cram those together to make one just for POS supplies. Now with capital ships, I have had to combine yet another 2 hangers together to open up one.

That's what everyone wanted to begin with... but station cans is what we were given instead. I'm OK with the cans, but at least make them available in 0.0... though of course, personal hangar divisions would be far better.

It sucks to live out of the only station within 6 jumps, without any containers to organise things everything I own just gets put into the hanger.
How long until I reach the 1000 item limit, and start bying indies so I can use their cargo space?

I've been pushing for this too. I wanted to have the BPO released so we can just build and pass them out to corp mates ourselves but the idea of making a packaged container small enough to travel with makes a lot of sense.
I like those general freight containers since they don't try to lock all my items down and they are big enough that I've never filled one. If that can be say 1000 m'3 packaged so we can have a dread jump up with 50 of them or so, it would be very helpful.
