305,984,118 resFaceUNI.stuff 305,984,118 resFaceNORM.stuff Exactly the same size. But it gets worse:
D:\>md5sum resFaceNORM.stuff 222146ddb8743fe7345dcf297759efea *resFaceNORM.stuff
D:\>md5sum resFaceUNI.stuff 222146ddb8743fe7345dcf297759efea *resFaceUNI.stuff
They have EXACTLY THE SAME MD5SUM. Not a single bit of the files is different. This was true for most of the .stuff files.
The verdict: This could have been done in a MUCH smaller patch
Buhu... it hardly takes that long to download a new client.
Fortunately I do have fast internet however, not everyone does. A fair amount of people are on 56k(or worse) dial-up connections.
If a majority of files are the same, it doesn't warrant a 559MB download. The OP definately has a point. I still remember the days of dial-up and a download that big would take over a day (27.7 hours at least under absolute perfect conditions, reality is it will take longer). Painful.

Try a download manager, it will help, especially if you're getting disconnected. I was getting ~800KB/s a couple hours ago.

so about 20 MB changes

ok. just to clear something up. there is other stuff happening. we created a patch and it was bigger than the client, thats the reason for the client and not a patch.

This is a test version, on a test server. Sometimes things that are being tested break. Which is good, cause then you can work out why it broke, and fix it so it doesn't happen when it's released to TQ. If things are sufficiently broken, that may mean there's no point having the test server up until those things are fixed.
Whenever you download or make use of test versions, you do so accepting that it may not work properly, or at all, and that the test server may or may not be available, for any reason. To expect otherwise is to fundamentally miss the point of it being a test server. ------- There is no magic Wand of Fixing, and it is not powered by forum whines. |

Just as you have just fundamentally missed the point, I know its a test server, and all the crap that goes with it, but when the thred contines 13 poeple saying they can not log in, the dev response should not be "Its not a patch its a new client" It should be "yes /no we know /now know about the loggin in problem, and will sort it out or tell you a work round.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unicode
Unicode is an industry standard designed to allow text and symbols from all of the writing systems of the world (See Universal Character Set) to be consistently represented and manipulated by computers.
Unicode characters can be encoded using any of several schemes termed Unicode Transformation Formats (UTF).
The Unicode Consortium has as its ambitious goal the eventual replacement of existing character encoding schemes with Unicode, as many of the existing schemes are limited in size and scope, and are incompatible with multilingual environments. Its success at unifying character sets has led to its widespread and predominant use in the internationalization and localization of computer software. The standard has been implemented in many recent technologies, including XML, the Java programming language, and modern operating systems.

Edited by: Deakin Frost on 10/07/2006 17:38:29 80 people were online? Earlier there were just 50 and EVETest still meant to put me in a queue, of which the semantics are quite frankly confusing.
Also, proxy not connected but shows 72 people online

okay, here it is:
Title: New Client dun be broked
Client Build: 4593
Description: Apparently 90% of the testing population can't access the test servers as "the proxy isn't connected". Some experience it then telling them that it is "Unable to connect to 87.237.38.50 on port 26000".
Reproduction Steps: 1. Download new client. 2. Install. 3. Start EVE. 4. Beat your head in frustration on the table for the hour you spent downloading something that can't connect to the server.
Computer: Various, but in my case a Dell Pentium 4 with no problems with any other games etc.
