Solaris. It has a great plot by the looks of it. I can't be sure because they dumped the plot and filmed the least interesting sub-plot as the whole film instead. ----------

While I'm sure it's a great film and a good recount of the Civil War, I haven't managed to make it through Gods and Generals. Fall asleep after half an hour, wake up when a battle scene starts, fall asleep for half an hour, wake up when a battle scene starts. This cycle repeats for about three and a half hours. ___

solaris 1974 or soloaris 2002?
Not seen the later, but I know the first can be a bore if you are in the wrong mood, but hardly a bad movie considering the craftmanship through the movie, rather one of the better - worst movies ever are probably those you find over here; the imdb bottom 100 list.
Blood rayne and Uve Boll fits nicely over in that list.

You ought to see Tarkovsky's original then. Even if it is a masterpiece, it's a 'tad' slow
That being said, here are the worst films I've ever seen, in no particular order.
The Rock Pearl Harbor Four Brothers The Island A Sound of Thunder BloodRayne
And a myriad of others which I can't be arsed to remember now. However, as you can see, I'm a great fan of Michael Bay.

A Sound of Thunder (2005) is the latest worst movie I've seen. Ben Kingsley is really working hard on getting himself on the bottom 100 list, staring in bloodrayne and all

Solaris (USA) and the long Solaris (Russian) are both very interesting movies to me. I'm not sure what you mean by them focusing on the "sub-plot," I think what you refer to as "sub-plot" is actually what I define as the "main plot."
But anyway, the worst movie I've ever seen? The New King Kong Movie. I thought that was so bad that I actually just ffwd through the last hour to get to the end.

There's a generic sci-fi plot, in this case a weird planet having strange effects on the people on the station nearby. They all start seeing things, things which have to do with traumatic aspects of their lives or something (been a while since I've seen it, thankfully). However, instead of being a nice generic sci-fi thing, with sci-fi elements to do with the planet and what is going on overall, and psychological subplots with how each character deals with what they see, they drop all that and focus on the main character dealing with the woman he hallucinates. Fine if you want to do a film about what Solaris ended up being about, but drop the planet and the space station, it isn't necessary. As for the guy who said he couldn't get more than 15mins in, because it was supposed to be good my whole family sat down together to watch it, and waited right up until the credits for something to happen. That's ~2hrs we'll never get back. ----------

Hey mate, I'm sorry you didn't like the film.
It is widely believed that the original Solaris ("Solyaris" Russian version) was Andrei Tarkovsky's answer to Stanley Kubricks "2001: A Space Odyssey."
The purpose was not to be a sci-fi flick, but rather a psycological review of our own lives, memories, and what is important to us. The fact that it was on a station, and involved a planet, well, that is just the backdrop. Just like Eve-Online, this movie isn't for everyone. There are no physical monsters, only those that we carry in our minds everyday.
But, you are entitled to your opinion, and are definately not the first person to say they didn't like the movie :)

True, and well said
I find Solaris to be a good complement to clockwork orange, and as such even better then 2001, both are exellent though; but the number of friends who hated 2001 is staggering, and worrying. The classic line after is that it should go alot faster, not grasping the point at all
Knowing that Solaris is a movie I wouldn't push on anyone who finds anything but action movies slow.

Yes! The Russian flick took me 3 days to get through.
For me, watching the Russian Solaris was like trying to swallow a fluffy pillow after drinking a cup of salt. But, in the end, I would say that I found it interesting. It is Definately not the worst movie I've seen.

Star Wars Episode One Star Wars Episode Two Star Wars Episode Three
seriously, I did't think it could get worse, after Jar-Jat Binks. But Lucas proved me wrong, and there was deeper sludge at the bottom of the barrel to scrape. Each of those films is absolute drivel, punctuated by george lucas' cinematory CGI ************.
Catwoman
Syriana. honestly. I'd heard it was good. it could've been good.... with a completely different director and editor. I've never sat through such a painfully dull film.
Queen of the Damned awful, just awful.
Highlander II the first one got away with being awful by being fun. the sequels were akin to root canal extraction... with a crowbar.
Matrix Trilogy the original was inventive. the sequel was trite, the third, I walked out.

Solaris is actually based on the Novel Solaris by Stanislav Lem, If you liked the movie you should prolly read the book, I liked both, the old movie and the book alot (havn't seen the new Movie).
Back on topic, I think Star Wars Episode 3 was utterly pathetic, I can't understand the People who say that it is so much better than the other two new Star Wars movies. But the worst movie I have seen so far has to be Ghosts of mars, man that flick sucked ass, good think that I didn't pay for it.

Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith.
Plot could stand on a subway ticket; actors were pathetics: Christensen, Jackson, Portman and Mc Diarmid. Mc Gregor and Frank Oz made a nice performance.
CGI: too muuuuuch ffs. Some beautiful, but most of them were too much visible.
Some shots were really nice, but globally it's one of the worst movie I've seen.
King Kong, Da Vinci Code, the 6th sense would also be on that list.

Haha so true. I didn't like Val Helsing much, but it was funny in parts. The character was more comic in the book Eccentric old dutch professors ftw.
Definately Highlander 2 as the worst sequal but dunno about worst film. It was pretty damn bad though.
Tomb Raider sucked, but most game > movies do by default.
It's really hard to think of many truly bad movies because most of the time I turn them off before they can imprint on my memory
edit:I'm actually gonna go with Constantine for the butchering of the character and the miscasting of Keanu Reeves Really disapointing film. Especially when movies like V for Vendetta and Sin City showed that a comic > movie adaption could be done well. __________________________ Indulge Me |

51st State, as someone mentioned (nice catch, I'd forgotten how dire it was).
American Pie: Band Camp... this is the only film I have ever stopped watching halfway though. Knew it was going to be terrible, but hoped it would be mildly amusing. Oh how horribly wrong I was
Ghosts of Mars was pretty god-awful.

Worst film I have seen was Windtalkers, with the permanently over-acting Nic Cage.
The action scenes were totally ridiculous- the Japs hold a ridge, and what do they do- hunker down and use the cover? Nope, they all stand in a line so they can be pwned by Nic and his pistol utter junk

My Top 5 Worst Films Ever:
1. SERENITY Shockingly ill-produced, terrible cinematography, casting was awful in original Firefly, so it was just as bad here. Not once did I know what was going on, who the characters were, what they were doing or why they were doing it. Plot, anyone? Effects werent bad, but I've seen better. Felt like a low-budget TV episode crammed into a feature-length movie..oh, wait.
2. ISHTAR Desert? Camel? Dustin Hoffman? Enough said.
3. SOLARIS I actually fell asleep watching this movie. It moved along at a pace that would make a tree seem quick. It was like waiting for the second coming of Christ. Nations have risen and fallen in the timeframe of this movie. I think I may have actually evolved a little more by the time it was over...
4. LITTLE NICKY Adam Sandler should be shot. This film was about as funny as income tax.
5. CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN Again, another painfully unfunny comedy. Not only one of Steve Martins worst films, but it stars 12 stupid kids too. I hate children. This film inspired less laughs than the Gestapo. I've laughed more in hospitals. I'd have more fun if I stabbed myself. This film was so utterly craptastic and unwatchable that I went mad trying to chew my own ears off.

Rather than engage in a proper discussion of this film, I would simply point out that if you couldn't follow the plot, your opinion of the film doesn't count for much. ----------

If you cannot follow the plotline of a movie with such an obvious, relatively straightforward plot, you don't deserve to be watching any movies at all.

I enjoyed similar irony when I singularly failed to massacre one person in Texas with a chainsaw at a screening of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I did however find a ***** at a screening of Toy Story.

Chopper Chicks in Zombie Town, Killer Klowns in Outer Space, list goes on with cheesy horror flicks. As far as mainstream, here goes: Anything with Paul Walker, Heath Ledger, Vin Diesel (shoulda retired after Pitch Black), Casper Van Dien (yeah, the Starship Troopers guy), uh, Titanic, pretty much anything with a Wayans brother in it. I could go on, but I have to go to work.

Edited by: Permian on 10/07/2006 21:17:40 The Hills Have Eyes - worst movie i've seen in years. i'm embarassed to admit i've seen it. we've got this monster family whose hideous features and primative cruelty merely serve as a plot device for the real focus of this film, being a complete piece of crap. everything from start to finish is a tired cliche. this movie is a disgrace to trashy horror films
Remember the Titans - So poignant you want to barf. every 5 seconds one of the main characters has a revelation that completely changes his life forever. in doing so, the message that this movie is trying to send becomes so trivial that it loses meaning. apparently race-relations are just a commercialized byproduct of the disney brainwashing machine
The Matrix trilogy - ok, the first matrix was good, or at least decent. the second two are some of the most bloated, pretentious garbage in the history of bloated, pretentious garbage. i don't understand how they were actually capable of writing a script that was so vacuous and mind-numbing. i've seen pron with better dialogue
Alexander - one word for this movie, "gratuitous." oliver stone's worst. the character development was a footnote. the story was an afterthought. what this movie is really about is colin farrel and people getting chopped up. sure rosario dawson gets naked but that scene was more comical and embarassing than anything else.
Memento - two words: camera angles. the shakiness sucked and the characters were boring, but what really made me want to puke is that every single shot in the entire movie is an extreme close up of someone's nose. the director was like, hey, let's try to make this guy's head fill up the entire movie screen for two and a half hours. brilliant
Blow - FOR THE LOVE OF GOD JUST LET HIM SELL SOME COKE IN PEACE

I honestly don't see why anybody actually sat down and watched Starship Troopers 2. I mean, look at the damn box art. They couldn't even put helmets on all the characters, line them up, and take a picture. They had to try and edit a face in to the same helmet three times. To me, if you can't even make the box itself look good... then why the hell would I watch the movie? Of course the damn thing sucked! --- --- --- ---

The book was pretty good though. Most of Chriton's books make poor films. Andromeda Strain and Sphere are other examples (Both excellent books). Jurassic Park was an exception.

Van Helsing: I have never witnessed such a mish mash of movie drivel in all my life. Every single line of dialogue in the entire movie feels like its been squeezed through the ass of a festering pig before delivered.
If I had two bullets and was given the opportunity to shoot two people in this world with impunity. I'd shoot that director twice!
Sure there are some horribly cheesy or bad acted movies out there but most are made on a shoe string budget.
Too add to the list:
Alien vs Predator League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Hellboy

disney isn't promoting christianity, they're just trying to cash as big of a check as they possibly can. They needed a fantasy with lots of unobjectionable CGI to ride on the LOTR bandwagon of success. so they picked narnia. and they toned down the intentionally blatant christian themes to score more ticket sales. throw in a little religious controversy to keep the media interested for a while longer and milk this sucker for all its worth

Also, any movies with Bon Jovi are immediately thrown into the alley and urinated upon. Same should go for all the crappy indie movies my roommate brings home to watch with his girlfriend. And for all you people complaining about Chronicles of Narnia and its Christian overtones, do you people know anything about CS Lewis? All his books contain said overtones, in fact most of his books are in the Christian section of bookstores. Chronicles of Narnia almost ruined his friendship with Tolkien because Tolkien despised the presence of religion in it so much.

Within a span of a few weeks, I saw Ultraviolet when it was released and then V for Vendetta. After watching the second, the utter and complete lack of merit of the first was made all the more starkly clear.
The way I like to put it, Ultraviolet was a whole bunch of action scenes with a little smidgeon of plot attempting to hold it all together, and V for Vendetta was a lot of plot with some action thrown in for seasoning.
If it's not clear, I liked V for Vendetta. Ultraviolet sucked. Too bad, I like Milla and I liked Equalibrium. --- Knowledge won't help us understand |

A combination of the way you can tell he knows exactly what he's doing while hes making the film. Coupled with the fact he gets flamed so hard by lots of people who really don't get it. I also was quite surprised to see the difference in corps/alliances the flames were coming from in relation to who the praise came from.
Genius...

Probably not the worst films ever, but they really grind my gears
Freddy got Fingered (Tom Green: how 'crazeeey' am I? Me: ). Fahrenheit 911 (Not about the politics btw, just a overhyped, unfocused and badly executed piece of crap) Ransom (The only movie I've ever left before the end, Mel Gibson never toped Mad Max). Alien vs Preditor (wtf, how do you mess up that sort of a licence) Judge Dread (see above). I ♥ Huckabees (ooohh its soo deep, no you are vacuous little morons... STFU) The Patriot (aparently being European makes me the spawn of cthulhu).
Now I'm gonna bang my head against a wall to try and forget the horror of these films

Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within
Battlefield Earth
Mortal Kombat: Annihilation
I usually have a good eye for a bad movie, so I'm pretty good at avoiding them. (Catwomen, Aeon Flux, From Justin to Kelly, Bloodrayne, Alone in the Dark, anything by Ewe Boll)
I usually only count the ones I saw in the theater, but here are a few I rented: The Producers Son of the Mask (I went by the name Loki on the internet until that movie) Rollerball The New World (sooooooo boring) From Dusk till Dawn ------------------------ The Almighty says this must be a fashionable fight. Are you drunk!! Dusk to Dawn is a classic, vampires, violence, and *******, what more could you want
Top of my list The first two LOTR movies, the 3rd one was ok but the first two were terribly slow and boring really.

My girlfriend made me sit through Bridget Jones 2: The Edge of Reason. That takes the biscuit by far, I swear my IQ dropped a few points while watching it.
Though, in return, she had to try EVE for at least one week __________________________________________

Worst movie ever? Just about every Dutch movie I've ever seen. Why can't they just make decent movies out here. Worst one of the bunch is one called "Phileine zegt sorry". Wasn't my decision to watch it though and by the time I found out what I was watching it was too late.
As for English language movies, I always manage to not watch the ones I consider bad. Lucky me.

Any Jerry Bruckheimer movie, save the pirate movies. I cannot stand the low-IQ beer commercial quality of the movies he produces. Everyone is always sweating, or there are always the same type of characters (usually the older know it all and the*****y upstart ) and the over done special effects. Remember Armageddon? It's an asteroid? Excuse me, looks like a ******* comet to me . And remeber Crimson Tide with 2 great actors that are on a submarine and they are always sweating?!?!!?!? Excuse me...this isn't Das Boot thank you very much ROFL.

The Patriot Braveheart
Oh look, Mel Gibson in 'I hate yuo nasty English' shocker. Guess what, nobody over here appears to give a ****.
Who put Shaun Of The Dead? That film was a slice of fried gold!
Rather than naming individual films I can just highlight any big-budget Hollywood 'blockbuster' as 99% of them are toss. I'm not trying to say that the British film scene is any better, since it revolves around Hugh Grant ****ting around in some supposedly high-class London borough while the 'comic relief' reprises whatever role made them apparently funny in the first place, ala Rhys Ifans ("I'm welsh, and my regional accent is simply hilarious" STOP. A shame since he is genuinely talented) Rowan Atkinson ("Hey Rowan, how about making another film about you being a bumbling, socially inept goon?" Also a shame, since he is very talented) or any other 'star' of British film. Since they tend to get picked up and jammed in for every 4 year outing (Four Weddings, Notting Hill, Love Actually, etc etc etc) it's hard to tell one from another ------------ 50Klicks.com |

If I may quote that guy in Team America...
I miss you more than Michael Bay missed the mark, When he made Pearl Harbor. I miss you more then that movie missed the point, And thatÆs an awful lot girl. And now, now you've gone away, And all I'm trying to say, Is Perl Harbor sucked and I miss you I need you like Ben Affleck needs acting school, He was terrible in that film. I need you like Cuba Gooding needed a bigger part, He's way better then Ben Affleck. And now all I can think about is your smile, And that ****ty movie too, Perl Harbor sucked and I miss you Why does Michael Bay get to keep on making movies. I guess Perl Harbor sucked, Just a little bit more then I miss you.null oh, and ibtl btw...
