Tsk, tsk, Thatt Guy. Behave now. Tippia quite well explained to you why your position is unreasonable. There is no reason to be rude to Tippia. As my old maths teacher used to say: "Statistics are like bikinis: It's what they don't show that's interesting". -CCP Aporia |

Oh well, guess nobody wanted to play Eve today anyways...
Going to write a letter about how my credit card companies website got ddos'd so I can't pay sub fee this month.
But I'm sure since CCP can't deliver the product I pay for due to ddos, they will certainly understand when they don't get their payment for the same reason, so I should be good...right?
Yup, I'm sure they will understand. Haters gonna hate, Trolls gonna troll. |

According to the guy doing the DDoS attacks in EVE and other game servers:
"Why do we do it? Multi-million dollar companies aren't spending your money to ensure your game has good service. DDoS is so old it's funny."
It's business, as always, be it RMT or trying to sell some expensive tool against DDoS, it's pretty easy pretending to be some 14 yo kid scripting in a post here and there, but if you shake enough the light can turn on.

DDOS = Distributed Denial of Service
the key part is "Distributed" definition --> see 3.a
What that all means in English
Lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of computers are being used to overload CCP's network infrastructure by bombarding it with data transmission requests.
This means legitimate users (that's us btw) cannot access it, because it's overloaded.
You don't prevent these attacks by turning a computer off and back on again.

There are several companies that provide DDoS protection, just do a Google search 'DDoS Protection'. One such company is VeriSign, a well known international company.
As far as what one can do in the event of a DDoS attack, you can also try Google and Wikipedia, The info below is a c&p of a small section of that page from Wikipedia. You'll need to go to Wikipedia for more detailed information.
"Handling Defensive responses to denial-of-service attacks typically involves the use of a combination of attack detection, traffic classification and response tools, aiming to block traffic that they identify as illegitimate and allow traffic that they identify as legitimate"
Companies can also buy insurance against such attacks.
DDoS is nothing new, it is quite old school really, and there's lots of information on the net about it, how to prevent it, and how to stop it.

Throughout the day the servers have been terribly unstable and it seems to be continuing into the night. Is CCP going to fix this DDoS crap or are we destined to be unable to play for days? It's seriously not hard to safeguard against a DDoS. |

If seriously not hard to safeguard against a DDoS is pulling the plug on your internet connection yes it's not that hard to protect your internet space ship game against a DDoS. That's what one European country did. It was Estonia I think. |

Everyone here does realize that you can still log in through the 'evefile' in the Bin while the launcher doesn't work right? (Provided that you're not using steam). Server stability is still questionable though. "Your security status has been lowered." - Hell yeah it was! |

Umm nope there is no reimbursement as it is outside CCP control.
If you want reimbursement go to the DDos hackers and ask the for your reimbursement for the lost ships |

It was a limited DDoS at that. The exefile in the /bin folder still got a connection. |
