Out in New Eden there is the wormhole from which all eve came from. A group of us are working on getting further to the wormhole than any other has, which is determined by the hundreds of containers in system marking everyone's visit to the system. At this time, we have gotten past any other can in system, except 1. A can labeled "nothing is outside the realm of possiblilty" still exists about 128,896,594 km from the star in system. It may be game placed or somebody at some time could get that far, but this is the furthest object in system toward the wormhole.
My task to all of eve is to try and reach this container since it seems to be the only object that can bring us closer to the wormhole.
We have been leaving bookmarks at the gate into New Eden with hopes that as a collective effort we can reach it. Unless someone can find a way to warp to it.
Please take a visit to the system and see for yourself.
Note: As long as everyone is contributing bookmarks to the container in system, it will stay updated, otherwise it will be taken. |

Edited by: Shattered Wolf on 03/08/2006 13:13:37 If you can get a ship to maintain it's Cap while using an MWD (Not that hard to do, actually) and can maintain at least 2km/sec, you can get to that can in a little over 17 hours.
That's not that bad. Just point your ship that way, kick in the MWD, and leave the game run. With that much speed, no one's really going to be able to catch up with you to, say, shoot you or anything... and it's not like there's that many people in that system anyways.
Right now though I don't have an alt or anything to get out there... my secondary character on my account can, but there's no way I can prove I was out there (I can't drop anchor cans :( )
But seriously, if I can get out there, I would leave my game on and fly all the way out there :D
....Do you think there is anything out there, anyways?

Since this can is so far out and there seems to be no owner information. I suspect it may be game placed. That brings up a big question as to what could be important enough to mark with a container. Who knows. There are lots of rumors, some that the wormhole is just painted into the background. If that not the case, my theory is that the wormhole is so many au's away that it would take quite a long time to reach. The only thing we can do is go explore and see what we can see.
At this moment I can reach 3450m/s sustained. At that speed it would take me 10 hours constant. |

My maths may be off, but would take a lot more than 17 hours. I was able to get an Ares to sustain a speed of about 5000 m/s (5km/s) using an MWD on test server.
Using that as a basis, it would take 25779318.8 seconds (obtained by dividing 128,896,594 by 5) to reach the can. Which works out at approx. 298 days.

Hey what system is it in!? Holy crap ive been looking for that worm-hole forever! Theres about 10 systems in the region that have names that seem like where the gate is. And theres no orbiting objects on show info so I cant tell.

Since not that familiar with the legendary system: Is the wormhole a real reachable object, or just part of the static background?
That is, do you yearn just to go furthest away, or actually reach the wormhole?
If it is just part of the background (like I faintly recall), there wouldn't much point chasing such elusive rainbow.
If it is real object of any kind, it can be located in reasonable time (hours) with help of the deviation properties of scan probes.
So while there, care to share a bit more about the properties of the system?

I've spent many an hour trying to reach that wormhole... to no avail. It would be pretty sweet to reach it though. I have a suggestion for this collective effort... if someone makes it to the last can, leave a bunch of bookmarks at the 15km warp from the jump gate to the sun (at the sun) in a can called "CLOSEST CAN month/day/year" so pilots entering can take 1 and move closer still. That would be the most logical way to do this collectively. In fact, maybe you could password protect the can so people not in the collective effort don't nab all the bookmarks in one trip. You could post the passwords to your cans in this forum. What do you guys think? ------------------------------------

Granted, but if we are all active in this thing we can only be set back so much. Nobody is such a douche that they are just going to spend their time stealing bookmarks for this effort. Those of us who actually participate will still have the last known good container in our bookmarks folders too, so if someone did take them all it would only set us back until the next person picked up where they left off. Said douche would also eventually get caught or brag about it and be labled KOS too...
Let me ammend the suggested naming convention for cans, too. This just occured to me: "GATE BOOKMARKS month/day/year (distance from sun in AU)" ------------------------------------

As part of my time in STI, we made an expedition to the wormhole.
Yes you can get there.
Eve Gate
What we did to get past the spacial distortion was to fly there in parallel tracks in 3 Merlins as a Gang.
You will find that space is curved and eventually you hit the edge of space. Along the way there are many sensor barriers which prevent warping ahead. Also, you may find you warp to places you don't expect.
Anyhow - we flew for 6 hours in all and did not take a secure can with us to prove it. I took this picture for myself. The word is Trust.
What I learned was invaluable. I learned to not fear low security. I learned that I was important. I learned to trust in Eve. I decided to make my own corporation after that and began my plans. Is the image merely projected by God? Some would say yes and be correct. But that proves God is there if you think about it...
In Eve there are so many who turn away and embrace Lawlessness and Piracy instead of Peace and Love which Eve holds out to each of us. It is a daily struggle.
When you are flying, keep track of your distance from the Sun. That is the key - knowing where you are and where you have been. The destination you will find is the Journey. In that Journey - you will find Eve.

....* What are you talking about? The word is "Piracy" In any event, I won't believe there are rogue drones, NPCs, an actual Gate, or anything until I see a screenshot or something. The reality of the universe we live in is that it is cold, harsh, and full of highly energized radiation. Scams and empty claims are as common as the endless stars themselves. There is a name for those who proclaim faith in the face of bleak reality: Amarrans.
Show me the money. He/She who posts a screenshot of the gate will claim the prize. ------------------------------------

I considered posting a prize for the event, although I have not the funds to. I like the idea of placing a cans out there with passwords, I would rather not populate the gate any more with bookmarks, so I can place a can with a gathering point as a bookmark for us to leave our bookmarks at. It seems if I leave a can out there someone always takes bookmarks without leaving any new ones. I understand not everyone can't bring cans out to leave, and that is its own problem since unless you own a can you can't place into it.
For those of you who can bring cans out, please bring a small secure of some type. Make sure you can anchor it so it can't be stolen. Set the password to 3v3G4t3. Make sure you keep the case the same. Name the can as EVE GATE XX/XX/XX
Note on bookmarks. Please label using the distance from the sun you are when you made it. "XXX,XXXkm from sun" For those who don't know how to copy bookmarks. Open your people and place, shift-drag you bookmark to your cargo hold, then move it to your secure can. If you are taking a bookmark from a can to use, take it to your cargo hold and then move it into a people and places folder. Once its in your people and places please use the method above to copy it back.
Thanks all. |

I realize you are doing this now, but by putting the community can closer to the starting point, people can spend the time they were using to get to your can moving closer to the eve gate instead. There may or may not be a gate when we finally get to where we're going, but given the depth of this game, I would be supprised if there was NOTHING in the EVE system. At the very least I'm sure there's a rare NPC, Agent, or destroyable facility there. In any event, I think this project is worth the effort...
Also see this thread. Rumors of a rogue drone hive along the way... very interesting if true. Can someone post a screen shot of it, or throw a BS flag on the play?
Sounds like the best way of doing it, though if the legends are true then any who venture too close towards the wormhole have their ship inplode upon them

The stage is set. Enter the system New Eden and find the can about 100km from the Promise Land gate that starts with " )r". It's set at a warpable distance. Passord is 3v3G4t3 of course. Inside will be bookmarks to the gathering point where we will leave the collection of cans with bookmarks. This point is beyond any point that can be reached easily except by participants in this forum. I have left cans out there already containing my latest bookmarks, again with the 3v3G4t3 password. Be sure to get the case right.
I will look to raise funds for a reward. 20mil ISK for a screen shot and can with a bookmark to verify the location of the actual wormhole and 10mil ISK for screen shot and bookmark for the distant can labeled "nothing is outside the realm of possibility". First post to the forum of the picture and has a verifiable bookmark will get the reward.
I may not be able to maintain bookmark copies for everyone, so please contribute by returning used bookmarks to your cans and dating the cans. Be sure to name the bookmarks with your progress.
I recommend building a ship that can sustain a microwarp for afk flight. Study up on Energy Systems Operation, High Speed Maneuvering for capacitor charge as well as Acceleration Control for speed.
Good Luck |

Update: I just ran a scan probe in system and warped to an object it found. I ended up no where near an object but I am even closer to the can and wormhole. I now read the can at 73,568,000 km from my current position. I am 0.768 au from the star and 9.279 au from the gate. I feel, the more of us out here looking for stuff, the closer we can get to our goal. |

If it is a secure can, then try to change the password on it. Just enter wrong old password and 2 same new password. Since you entered the wrong old password to start with, eve will give u the name of the owner of the can.
So is it a secure can or not???

Back in the days when we could dual mwd us I placed a can far far far further than any other can, it spent mwd'ing a few hours straight at 29km/s but I think my can is gone now
But good luck and keep it up! You can always try reach that hidden monument if it is still around (no not the station one, the other) I don't think anyone has been there yet.

I'm sure, as people have already stated, that any very far cans were placed back in the days when you could stack mwds - ships were stupid fast in the early days of EVE!
I'm almost positive that the eve-gate is just a part of the background for the system, and without multiple mwd you've never going to get near to where early EVE-explorers went.
However, deep scan probes are highly inaccurate - scan for a known buddy and you might wind up many, many, AU closer to the gate. Its a one in a million chance you'd 'miss' in the right direction but its probably the only way to get closer to the gate. Which, again, 99.9% isn't really there at all. ------------------------------------------

Hmm well i would still be very interested to hear what is in that can and what may be around it. I am sure there is a reason an object would be that far out. at 29k/s a ship would take 51.4434 days or 10hrs and 38minutes. i don't know many people who would actualy atempt that normaly unless they could double that speed to 58k/s and even then 25 days. anyone know the actual speed ships travled back then? im sure we could figure out the max speed ourselves. i like the idea of using drones and warping off target many au though i have never done it myself (would like to hear more about that). is it possible to launch a drone out in space and warp to it later. Maybe some one could do that and log off and their drone is still flying and then warp to it later though i havn't messed with those triangulation drones yet. noticed a lot of comments discouraging people from trying to find out what this object actualy is... interesting.
