Hehe that puts a nice spin on it.
Interns in any industry will typically have second jobs. Judging by the number of bars and restaurants around CCP's offices I would say that the opportunities are boundless - for work as well as more free booze and food.
When we interview for interns, if the guy starts the process with "how am I supposed to live on $600 a month?", he's already lost the game... Use it as an opportunity to network, learn some cool stuff, experience a foreign culture and meet some like-minded people. Get a second job FFS!
which world do you live in? You expect people to leave the homeland imigrate to iceland to work at a new job. and then they have to get an extra job just to make a living ?

Hm ... if only I'd not have a job that pays about seven times what CCP pays for the internship (it prolly sucks seven times as much, compared even to working on Tranquillity )
CCP, if you're ever looking for an experienced sysadmin, send an eve-mail to my main (you know how to find it )

the ppl complaining about the pay should read again and realize it's an internship... i did my intership in uni for 250 euro's a month for a 45 hour workweek...
i imagine the pay after you become a full gm is a lot higher, but it prolly would still not live up to your expectations. i think it is safe to say it is aimed at students and young ppl in general

Interesting, how long are the applications for internship going to be open? I'd apply now but just a few days ago I accepted a job for the next 7-8 months, what are the chances of this being available around next summer?:)

ItÆs a shame really.
I've been working in the customer support industry (within a Secondary school) for almost 2 years now and IÆm only 18, almost 19. I would have jumped at a chance to be a "Game Master", let alone work for CCP, of all companies to work for.
Oww well, only another 1 year and 2 months to go, and I'll be up to your standards.
Thanks for the chance though. Also by the way, does "Equal Opportunities" get breached, by you putting an age limit on your applicants? Emm?"Cant touch this" den der der dum, der dum der dum KILLING THE BUG'S, BEFORE THEY KILL YOU |

You're in europe lad... equal opportunity doesn't apply... certainly not for an internship and a job where maturity can easily be demoinstrated to be required... and hence be part of acceptable job requirements... it happens in all industry.

and that for 600$??
dear CCP plz make an serious offer... 600$ is nothing for work as support and that with the 3year old acc. limit is a joke, isn't it? it will be hard (or immposible) to find a good GM who is playing 3 year EVE and want to do that for that crapy loan...

P.S. I working as developer and have often to help out with support in our company. Customer Support is frustriating some days (/very often).
CCP pays for your apartment, some meals etc and iirc you may get offered a full-time position after a while with a significant increased pay (and living standard?).
So the $600 is just for some food and entertaiment while you are working for the intern program.
Yeah - I wish I had $600 a month to spend after I have paid my rent, the rest of my bills and my food expences. (and for the record I'm an Electronic Engineer) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's a three or four month internship, it's not a career unless you are successful. That hardly counts as immigration. It only becomes a 'job' when/if the intern is successful, at which point I'm sure CCP will offer you more than $600/month to stay.
And yes, in the real world interns always have second and/or third jobs unless they're partly supported by their parents or a trust fund. Let the offer be your guide:
20 years old + 3 years playing Eve + command of the English language + four month internship + free board and lodging + low pay = someone looking to embark on a career path.
I can understand that people would want more money - it's human nature. But take this opportunity for what it is - I'm willing to bet that the applicants will get more out of the four months than CCP will. -*-*-*-*-

So, slave wages, half of UK min. national wage, and a I can't believe it, for an internet based company, no teleworking oppertunity...
It would be interesting to know what a fully paid up GM could be expected to earn, if I was running an internet based company, I'd have everyone teleworking, and the money saved on office space spent on giving them wages at least double the min. wage.

You can ofcourse still apply and take into account that you may not be the perfect candidate on paper but you are still pretty close
If you dont apply the answer will always be no, so just give it a go.

Please keep in mind that this is indeed an internship, the majority of your room and board are taken care of by CCP. The monthly stipend is to assist with personal living expenses, not, as someone posted, pay for a car or mortgage.
After the internship period has been finished, each intern will be evaluated for permanent employment. If an intern is given a job offer, the offer will include a salary based upon the intern's performance, previous experience and other evaluation criterion. This salary is competitive with the MMOG industry standard.
As I stated in the blog itself, the 3 year subscription requirement can be waived in certain circumstances. Previous GM or customer support experience, especially in a call center, will be taken into account when CVs are reviewed. If you are short a couple months, or played since beta (even if your original account lapsed), by all means, submit your information.
We have plans for future internship offers, not only on the GM team, but QA and content as well.

Originally by: Garia666 it sounds a very intresting aplication, and a dream come true. However for me to leave my job for 600$ is actualy an insult.
you cannot live from 600$ at all or is this an icelandic currency who is much more worth in euro`s?
I hear that.
I have expenses that exceed that by x3, then you can add on my LIVING expenses.
While it may appeal to some getting out of school, this isn't appealing to the older adults (you know the ones, with all the experience, patience and maturity...ok, experience then ☺)
If eve was out about 25 years ago this offer would have been perfect for me.

Dunno about Europe, but in the US internships, even engineering ones aren't usually paid all that well. Of course, many internships are for University credit, many are unpaid, and even the ones that are paid, in general the pay isn't all that great. In engineering programs, a co-op program (essentially a full year internship, generally for a 3rd year student) is a common requirement. It isn't at my university, but its strongly recommended.
I imagine working at CCP would be great judging from the attitude of the developers and other personnel we've seen on the forums and on EVETV. I'd apply, but I don't think anything CCP does would be that well suited to an ECE student. --- Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail. - Emerson |
