Originally by: Garia666 it sounds a very intresting aplication, and a dream come true. However for me to leave my job for 600$ is actualy an insult.
you cannot live from 600$ at all or is this an icelandic currency who is much more worth in euro`s?
It's an internship - i'd imagine it would be most suitable for students and the like taking a or considering taking a gap year. Not for people who already have careers.
Whilst $600 isn't very much (i'm sure it goes even less in Iceland than it would go in the UK...) i'm sure the whole experience of living in Iceland, experiencing a different culture whilst expanding your CV would be worthwhile for a great deal of people. :)

I'd apply if it wasn't for...
a) ...that I am 1 year short of subscription b) ...that I am Swedish citizen living in Canada for a year c) ...the Relocation, my gf has suffered enough.

More answers to questions in the thread.
Originally by: MOOstradamus Q: If this position is only open to EU member states then why quote the salary/living expense allowance in Dollars and not more appropriately in Euros or ISK?
Dollars are what was given to me for the announcement and I believe what the Acounting staff is going to use for pay purposes. Subject to exchange rate fluctuations, that amounts to ~470Ç or ~42.2k ISK per month.
Originally by: Nefera Sen Maybe a stupid question but would the apartments have internet access?
Originally by: Apertotes i would like to know if it is required to live on an apartment with other 2 interns. i mean, nothing against those 2 persons, just that i would like to know if we are free to live elsewhere if we carry with the expenses.
Yes, there will be internet access in the apartment and if you have friends to live with in Iceland (or other living arrangements), you are not required to live in an intern apartment.
Originally by: Eewec Ourbyni Out of curiosity whats the hours on that (start/finish) in the day or is it shift work?
Shift work, but I believe the new GMs start out working days or evenings until they are trained.

We need to bring the GM Interns in ASAP, NA and Aussie applicants have a minimum 60 day processing period for their work visas. If you meet the other requirements, go ahead and submit your information, but be forewarned that your application will be further down on the list of potential acceptees.
Then you might want to think about rephrasing it "Must already have the right to work in the EU". Because I don't "live in the European Union" - I live in Australia, but I was born in London and have a full British passport etc.
Although I'm probably a bit old for this job :(

A few months ago I would have jumped at this :o
Though I didn't sign up for an account until 16 months after the beta, which means only two (2) years of ingame time.
How often do these internships come up? If there was abit more warning (to allow us people on the other side of the world to obtain a visa) we might even be in with a chance.
Depends on the country and the government of course, but sometimes visa's can be fast tracked, at a cost.

Heh I think Hendo001 really want's to apply.
I would too were it not for the fact that I have no experience at GMing, have no right to work in EU and have a little too much mortgage to go galavanting across the ocean to Iceland. Not to mention the rather spectacular pay-cut :)
Working with what seems to be the only dev-team in the MMO marketplace that actually gives a **** would certainly be sweet but would you really want to play EVE for a job? EVE is fun because I can come home from dealing with a bunch of people I have to work with and deal with a bunch of people like working with. If it was my job then the choice would be gone.
Think of this too. The successful candidate would also have to listen to people whining EIGHT HOURS A DAY. "WAAAH I lost my ship to PIRATES"..."WAAAH The market is SOOOO mean to me"...."WAAAH I rebo^H^H^H^Hcrashed and now my dread is gone!!"
Can you honestly say you want to deal with that?
(Don't hate me dev-team...I'm just trying to weed out the unmotivated)

I'd seriously love to lay some major smackdown on the ISK Farmers/ISK Sellers/ISK Buyers/eBayers and other various evildoers of EVE with a shiney GM account, but it just seems a little silly to move to Iceland when all of the work is done over the internet, nothing against Iceland, but I just make too much here to warrant moving so far away from home (Miami, Florida).
Though the 5,000 word essay on why I think I would be a good GM sound's like it would be fun to write... seriously :)
Oh well, I guess I'll just keep the GM's busy with my constant petitions about farmers, ISK sellers, ISK buyers, and eBayers.

Sounds really interesting, and I would love to apply... Only, I have just been playing actively for about a year... But I wonder what I could possibly learn about the game in the coming two years that I have not yet learned, that would be so incredibly important...
Oh well, maybe it's just a way for them to separate the longtime players from the borderline fanatic... Or better yet, <hat type="tinfoil">it's a way for them to reduce the amount of non-BoB applications</hat>.

I have a question: Do other advantages (such as being able to support the customers on more than just English) is important enough to weive the requirement of 3 year experience?
Also, why is it set to 3 year? does that mean in 2 years, requirements would be having 5 years ingame? I may be wrong, but I think this may rule out many fine people, who have 1-2 years of experience, and know the game just as well. In addition to doing injustice to these who werent lucky enough to start with the game after the beta ------------------ Tired of fleet combat lag? -Post HERE

I don't think they just need people who know about EVE, but people who are also comitted to EVE. It's no good if you have a GM that loses interest in the game in the next 6 months. Someone who only played a year might be the best expert of the game, but you can't be sure how long he will still be playing.
People who have played for 3 years already are more sure to stay even longer, for obvious reasons, and this commitment is what they might seek aside from actual game knowledge.

Well, I have 'only' been playing Eve for around two years, but have been working in an IT customer support job with an automated system that (from my in game view of the client side) appears similar to that used by CCP.
Im just wondering, if the intern was kept on, how much would the position pay?
Is it actually competative with similar jobs in the IT industry or is CCP hoping to sucker in some low-paid fan-boys?
Im only asking because support jobs can be soul destroying and unless you can provide unlimited beer, boobies, titan sized cigars and massages from oveur while wearing 'that' wig your staff retention rate may be a bit low ________________ What you do is you store up the rage, let it fester while you gain strength, then use it to gank those weaker than you... and so the circle of life is complete |
