....here we are Ladys and Gentlemen.
We was waiting in N_RAEL for a nice fight against GOONS+RA.
On our side 215 in the gang and on the other side ~200-220 GOONS+ 25 RA jumping into N-RAEL.
Now we login-logout (crash) since 1 hour and we waiting for the nice fight.
Last screen i saw = TONS of cans from both sides at the gate.
But NOT V/LV or GOON/RA won.
THE SERVER WON AGAINST 500 paying EvE players!!!

Well....i got kicked 6 times from the server...15 mins to log in back....killed 4 ships....lost ship....podded... Thanks CCP - nooo there is noo lag in EvE. Now i know y they allow the trade of TC for isk - cuz noone would pay real money for that lag. I was in TBB when MC came in. But what happened today cant be event compared to that. Lag Lag Lag. GF to the coalition - i hope some day we can have a nice skirmish without the lag (pray!). Till than i will stick with the small gangs.! Again GF and thanks for the fun. Edited by: Stormhold on 09/09/2006 03:52:59 I expected a fun fight, it ended up as a t1 frig duckshoot and total node crash lag crap.
I really really really hope CCP could somehow get this kind of situations working, but since that's at most soon(tm), I'll have to resort to smaller gangs like usually.
I think I dropped from servers three times and got to 1 killmail after the first node crash thanks to my guns not activating on anything except targets which warped out, damnit

This is why CCP needs to nerf 0.0 so the mission runners can keep 1.0 to 0.5 safe from npc invasions.
So much lag out there from blobs, npc'ers, and those bubbles. Just take away sec status gain from 0.0 BS npc'ing. That will send all those horrible npc'ers to empire so fleet battles like this can go on without lag. |

Yep
If it wasn't for the fact that CCP continues to put in features in the game that absolutely require big fights that the game absolutely can't handle.

gotta agree with Hast here... its blatantly obvious even to the casual observer that any fleet battle over 100 ships per side is going to be a lagfest.
Infact everytime there is an engagment where more than 200 people are involved its 99% probable to be no fun at all.
Seeing as this is the case, why don't the alliances that can field 100+ on a regular basis come to an arrangement whereby fleet sizes are limited to 100 pilots.
Call it the LAG Treaty...
Its quite clear that trying to engage in battles with more than a 100 per side is a waste of time.

So if the other side bring such numbers you would propose what? Asking them to leave half in the other system? Fall back and not engage? All you can do is respond to the fight which is brought to you if defending.

This wouldnt happen if there was an agreement between the alliances able to field 100+ to cap fleet sizes at 100 pilots for example.
If indeed they have more than 100 willing pilots they could be used as backup incase the first engagement goes pete tong.
If the will was there amongst the alliances to put an end to the 300+ lagfests.. it could be done.

That's silly. Not all alliances are equal in terms of skillpoints or equipment. Putting any sort of cap on the number of ships you can bring to a fight inherently biases the outcome towards the older of the two groups

Why do we - as players - have to look for a solution in those cases when CCP is incapable of doing their job right? Even 1vs1 don't work properly and people can't meet it with honor. Why do you think it would work with 100vs100? Especially if one side is basically fielding t1 frigs -Goons in that case-. To this I can tell you that even 50vs50 battles don't work on the server at it's current state smoothly. Open your Eyes. This game was designed for it and it worked as long as the max player number on the cluster was low. Proudly announcing the breach of 30k players just dropped the server performance to a point where doing PvP in Eve is a) a waste of time and b) a waste of ISK in form of ships/modules
and now you want the alliances holding regions not to defend it? 0.0 Eve went into a stalemate completely since things can't be fought out properly anymore. The producers of course enjoy this. We lose ****loads of stuff and they can produce their ass off because lag doesn't affect em and makes them lose their production. But when I foresee the future and this goes on another 3 months, alot of the PvP people will leave eve and then the producers sit on their **** because noone fights anymore. A good idea, A good game flushed down the toilet because of the incompetence of the heads of CCP which rather work on even more crappy content than put all the manpower into bringing the client and server to a point which meets the needs for the game at this state. x x x x x x x x x x x x x x

I would tell them they where ghey and to **** off
well, there isnt much you can do about it, but it seems such a lag treaty is the only way that it can be solve, how stupid the idea in the first place sound to me (no offence Nez)
Since you cant do much to stop an alliance from bringing 200 people other then scream at them on the forums. But if I was commanding I wouldnt jump my 200 into someone elses 200 tbh.
and 200man fleets are pointless for anything but locking a system down anyways... The only way to break a siege of those numbers is to crash the server sadly... Although I dont know how the new jump queues will affect jumping 200 people jumping in. You may end up with only jumping in 10 at the time who will easily get picked off if they ever manage to get in to the system at all...

Yes it would. However isn't the bias towards the older of the two groups heavy already? The older group can field capital ships, techII guns etc.... The younger group in most cases wouldn't stand a chance anyhow.. unless the older group screws up or has a crap FC.
Atm the only thing in the younger group's favour is lag.. because bringing more numbers does not empower any group. All it does is create more and more lag, to the point where the game becomes unplayable for both parties. The outcome is then a game of chance.
Splitting large numbers of pilots into several fleets only means that alliances would have to be more creative with their strategies.. 2 pronged attacks at different locations or more careful selection of targets, i.e don't punch above your weight etc.
Fact is that EVE does not support mega battles, I know that, you know it.. everybody knows it.
EVE at the moment can handle at the very most 100 vs 100 or some other similar number.
If a group is full of vets, more experienced and better equipped.. then the alliance of new players should give them a wide birth and pick a fight with somebody in their league.

Indeed its sad, I have stated time and time again in various forum sections that the devs need to put all their resources into lag, instead of creating new contents, but they keep ignoring these calls by me and others. Seems they cant let go of that consept that the 'content' is what needed for the game, and that will be the game's downfall soon enough ------------------ Tired of fleet combat lag? -Post HERE

In an ideal world this whole lag problem wouldn't exist. Alliances could duke it out at maximum fleet capacity and 300 vs 300 battles would be the highlight of the week.
However the reality is that engagments with over a certain level of pilots is not possible (lets say that the number is 100 vs 100 .... for arguments sake).
I am sure CCP is looking into this problem, or at least I hope they are. How long will it take to fix? I have no idea...
In the meantime you gotta work with what you have. And what we have is a game where there is already a *lag* limit on the amount of pilots you can sensibly have in the same system fighting eachother.
When one plays a game of chess/pool/cards there are no inbuilt rules, only those that the players impose on themselves.
Why can't EVE be the same.. at least until the server loads can be increased by better hardware.
In-game mechanics do not need to be the limiting factor for all our actions.
Take MC for example, were there any in-game mechanics helping them to provide mercenary services? Yet they still managed to come up with an honorable viable profession.
Killboards are another example, they are not provided in-game yet they are an integral part of everyday life as an out of game resource.
There is no reason why EVE players cannot outsource their enjoyment of intergalactic warfare by providing an out of game famework whereby there are some codes of conduct for large engagements.. that is until CCP improve the lag situation.
Ofc the big alliances could simply continue to bang their heads against the brick wall of lag and continue to pointlessly field fleets of up to 300 pilots... but is it fun?

What an experience.
I crawled to bed at 5 Am.
What can I say that has not been said above?
I somehow survived and got a few kills but it is imposible to say I owe it to my skill as a player. It was the luck of the draw nothing more. I crashed and relogged 3 times in the process. All you can do is hit the f keys whenever you have something locked.

no need to take the ****...
Lets say LV and D2 are gonna have an engagement... I'm gonna make an educated guess here and say that D2 and LV are of similar calibre militarily speaking.
Now lets say you were vying over a particular region.. lets say Geminate.
You both mobilise and send in the troops; we are looking at 300+ pilots per side being mobilised to conquer geminate.
A D2 POS goes up.
The scene is set for a battle....
As it stands LV and D2 are gonna throw everything they have at this engagement... creating a ~ 300 vs 300 lagfest. There is no clear victor, there is hardly any skill involved and pilots made a stupid amount of jumps to watch their screens turn black and end up in pods. Maybe one side will be victorious.... but the big looser here is fun.
Now lets say your battle was limited to 100 vs 100 or if it takes place at the defenders POS then you could cut that to 100 vs 50 (for the defender). You could quite possibly have a good fight were skill was the determining factor not lag, a loss in a non-laggy environment where FC skill/pilot skill was the main factor would give one side a huge morale boost.. and is this not the main reason why alliances stop fighting loss of morale?? If for example D2 lost all their engagments at the capped limit of 100.. they might think hmm these LV boys are just better than us.... (hypothetical scenario... just an example)
K all this sounds pretty contrived... but my point is that its better than the alternative, a quagmire of lag.

To the old times (SA vs CA)we fought near everyday 100-150 against 100-150.
There was no problem. For nobody. But there we got also a max online count with around 12ooo player.
So i think CCP dont shoudl concentrate on new features in eve. They should concentrate on a "better" server or server code. First CCP should "save" the 32k players they want to play eve. Then we can look for new features.
Like c0rn1 sayed. EvE is a "blob" game and CCP cant ignore that.

.. right but the battle which this thread is about contained..... "215 in the gang and on the other side ~200-220 GOONS + RA", which was unplayable.
Wouldn't it be nice to emulate the 'good old' days and limit engagements to the 100 vs 100 mark or thereabouts?
With the increased player base and ever increasing fleet sizes, the problem is only going to get worse and worse.... its like a vicious circle. One that I don't think any hardware can ever keep up with.
Even if CCP bring in new hardware the big alliances are just gonna keep pushing the limits of playability. With the current mentality that alliances have (i.e always bring superior numbers) it is quite possible there could never be a lag free fight again...
And that is a scary thought..

2 years ago 150 vs 150 were not a big issue. and code or game should evolve which should bring us to 300vs300 at least but eve is degenerating to 50vs50 max right now and with additional 5k players u cant even dare to go for a 20vs20. are you kidding me? read what you are writing and then look if u r in the right game. If I wanna play 20vs20 I place Battlefield 2 not Eve-online.

well I actually quoted LightDarkness' original post with the numbers. Those were the ones given at the start of the thread.
Nevertheless it was probably good that the numbers were actually lower.. imagine what it would have been like with larger numbers..
330 all in is still 165 vs 165... which it appears is still above the threshold of playability in EVE atm.
Its sad but true.
So what to do about it..?
You can wait for CCP to fix what is quite possibly an unfixable problem (good luck with that) or... you can work around the problem with an inter-alliance code of conduct for large engagements.
I guess thats the point I'm trying to make.

CCP needs to keep up with the times, bigger player base means bigger alliances, the biggest alliances would actually find it quite hard to get hold of 100 men nowadays, but if a call goes out 250 can respond easily.

Specially to Nez Percess....
As EvE started we was max 12ooo players online = 150 vs 150 was nice to fight
NOW
EvE have over 32ooo player online and you are NOT ABLE to fight over 50 vs 50.
So i think to hold the ballance CCP dont should get more players online. They should get a better (more stabile) server for the guy they already pay for it.
And dont forget: 12ooo = over 100 vs 100 good 32ooo = over 200 vs 200 bad 50ooo = over 350 vs 350 dreams

While I see your point, I don't personally like this idea even in principal. On top of that, you have to count on an opponent who would honor such an agreement. During recent battles we moved the bulk of our fleet out of system to try to reduce lag on several occassions.
Guess what our opponents did: a) Followed suit to make things fair b) Started 5 threads on eve-o proclaiming an amazing victory against 10,000 to 500 odds

Well yeah. That's sort of why newer players need to bring in superior numbers in order to make up the skillpoint deficit.
Unless you want to engage in some*****amamy math where we each compute relative skill points and ships against each other and derive the exact number of ships each side is allowed to bring in order to have a "fair" fight. But come on, that's just silly.
As it stands now if people are fighting over actual territory each side can't be blamed for bringing everything and the kitchen sink

heh... the funny thing is that the EVE player base had been gagging for Titans since forever, before lag was really an issue (playerbase was not really high enough).
I'd hate to be a CCP decision maker, they have to balance out introducing new content (low cost feature) with increasing the player base (make more money) with reducing lag (high cost feature needing new hardware and possibly extensive re-coding).
Now Titans are finally here... I doubt anybody would field one, particularly not where it could have maximum effect i.e a big fleet battle where lag is the big killer.
Catch 22 anybody..

Am I missing something here, or are you suggesting it be made realistically impossible for fleets of newer players to win in almost any scenario?

CCP or whoever should do WHATEVER it takes to eradicate lag to a level where alliance warfare is applicable. Kill of bm's, nerf caldari (j/k), whatever it takes. Was recently in lowsec with no more than 30 ppl and the lag was attrocious, i knw theres all this new coding and such but surely lag issue should be uber fix issue rather than new ships and more subscribers.
I love this game, i play it loads but sometimes this lag BS gets too much

Nez, I see what you are saying, and honestly some sort of "treaty" or agreement between two warring groups might deal with this in the mean time but I don't like that, nor should we have to come up with these "no more than 100 pilots per side" work arounds. We shouldn't have to do this because as someone else mentioned, this is an MMO.
CCP has created an amazing product, one of the best MMO's I've ever played but this is a nasty little fly in the ointment that needs to be addressed, and quickly. It will be interesting to see the GM's response to this problem - if there is indeed a response.

we had this problem in XZH today with YW and RISE.
YW dropped a dictor bubble on the gate and warped 15 to 20 ppl to the gate. We jumped through the gate with about 15 to 20 ships.
Result: complete client freeze followed by a node crash. EVERYONE in CR and a lot of OR was disconnected. Fortunately it went right back up and we were able to continue.
But I mean, there were 50 ships there maximum. And the server couldn't handle it. ----------------------- sig below

Ladys and Gentlemen
I dont opened this topic that we can blame us self. We should blame CCP (sry CCP).
We all pay for a game that is great and fantastic to play(best game i every saw).
BUT (looking to CCP) !!! Please dont sleep and look on your "old old old" gamers in EvE. They wrote your history in EvE and the old gamers will hold your game great !!! But you are still on it to loose the "old gamers" now more and more.
Wake up CCP !! Most new players in eve wont stay long cause they dont have peoples they explain the game and/or speaking from a history in EvE. They play EvE for 2 or 4 month. Thats all.
Dont make eve to a mass game. more and more gamers....more and more. You have now over 3oooo gamers online. Tons of players. But for what? You lost per online member the control over the servers.
Try to keep this count but get the control back on the servers.
I swear CCP: If you delete the BM¦s or somethink else. All would cry the first days. But if they can play a beautiful game without lag. Then they are ALL fine. And you wont loose more "old gamers".
I hope you read that (sry for my bad english) and think about that.

I really hope somebody from CCP is reading this thread, cause that was a nice post LD.
Lag is fast becoming the single biggest issue for most players both in 0.0 and in crowded empire. Is CCP paying attention?

Sure CCP knows whats going on but my guess is they are tired from all the whining and decided to keep their mouths shut and are working on stuff to make things better.
They have to get Kali 1 running before Xmas, get rid of that insane petition queue, organize the fanfest and get that new Interstellar Business Muppets hardware setup. |

Well yeah but it wouldn't do them any harm to actually come out and say that there could be a problem and that they are looking into how the lag can be reduced overall... that would cost them nothing.

Agreed but somehow they don't bother to communicate that often anymore. Dev blogs are pretty nice but not enough when issues like these occur.
And God knows whats going on behind the scenes. They had 2 codebranches merged and somehow the optimalisations got borked. This problem even could be a single statement of code where there are about 1 million lines in total. Who knows if they are rewriting parts in assembler. Debugging, sweating, caffeine overdose and analysing data for days. And now even getting a build seems to be a major challenge. (sharkbait said)

hi.
You guys took a 200man blob to a gate and all dropped drones waiting for another 200 man blob to jump into you. What exactly did you expect the outcome of that to be? A clean lag free fight? Was that everyones first time playing eve?
Speaking of clues heres a free one. 200 ships + 200 ships + dropping drones = roasted server. Dont act suprised by that.

1 Question: ò Do YOU make PvP??
If you want to fight you will use drones. If you see a 200+ enemy fleet you will arrive with near the same count. If a enemy try to invade your systems you will set all into position to defend it.
So. CCP allow us to use this features in the game. Nice. But what bring us this features if we cant use it?!!? So why not in front "delete" some features that we get a "clean" fight with the features we have then in eve.

smartass, we were already there at the gate and didnt take it there. the server acutally crashed when they jumped in on US. not vice versa.

its your fault that your side all went to the gate and dropped drones. There are things that you can do in eve to make lag better and things you can do to make it worse. Either you guys chose to make it worse or it was your fc's first time playing eve. I wasnt there so I wont speculate on that. A fc with any sense would have have not ordered everyone to drop drones or if he saw people dropping them order them to be recalled. That might have made the situation playable for you.

Ok, it seems you lack some proper informations about the fight and are trying to judge without them. 1st) our 200km BS didnt drop the drones. only a few cruisers which were close to the gate to have at least a little bit of protection when it starts lagging. 2nd) they jumped in on us not vice versa 3rd) If CCP doesn't want drones to be used then they should remove them. 4th) In my video u can see that the server was still working. just the proxy or something like that gave up. Why? because angels pwnd me while I was trying to log in. I can give u the killmail for the loss of my ship as well.

I know you have more sense than that LD. Cmon, its not that hard to defend yourself against the goonies without the drones. Drones are great for smaller fights but im pretty sure youve been in enough bigger fights to know what happens when you order everyone to drop drones. I could be wrong, but by the looks of that screenshot it definatly looks like the order was given.

In that quantity? Yes, absolutly it does make a huge difference. It can make the difference between something thats playable and not playable. My point is that there are things in eve you can do to reduce lag. You chose not to. Pointless sarasm will not change that. Everyone in eve (except you apparently) realizes if you have a fight of that size you should do certain things to reduce the lag. You guys made a huge unnecessary blob and then all dropped drones insuring the situation would be unplayable. Dont act so suprised about the outcome.
edit - I really would like to see goonfleet die, but you guys are making it real hard to root for you.

They've already left; no one will need to be rooted for here.
Are blobs of equal numbers unnecessary? Our numbers were purely reactionary. Thank Goon/RA for that one.
Dropping drones en masse is indeed a very lame tactic; in this case, it doesn't look like there was more than 10 ships with drones out (via a quick glance at the screenshot). From what I remember, no drones were deployed prior to enemies starting to show up. All those cargo cans can confirm it. There's nothing wrong with dropping drones if it means a battleship can warp out via killing an enemy scrambling frig with them.

FC did not give command to drop drones, in face he did the contrary. However some of the Coalition ships (short range - stitting on the gate) like Domis and some drone cruisers had their drones out since it was their main weapon.
Was interesting to see how many ppl actually sitting well off the gate that had drones out unneccessary. (Most of them was retracted when FC pointed out they would cause more lag)

Before the fight, some close-range guys at the gate had their drones out. Most BS were long-range anyway, like 90% or more sitting far off the gate in 3 spots or so and they didn't have the drones out.
Don't know, how many BS, BC and cruisers we were, lets say well over 120. If the order had been given to put out all drones, the node would have crashed long before I guess or at least people like me would have sat there with 0.1 FPS and that's no fun. I suppose there would been more than 10-times more drones in space before the fight than you see on that screenshot. The accusation that people were told to launch their drones, is just rediculous. It was more like some close-range ships had them out and some close-range ships launched them, when the goons where in, while 90% or more still didn't launch any drone.

Hi. I was there for the entire op.
1. Out of our 170 ship fleet, maybe 15 ships had drones out and most that did were cruisers at the gate. The screenshots clearly indicate this. 2. We had a 170 ship fleet, because the combined RA/Goon fleet was close to 300 ships. 3. 250 Goons also all jumped in at the same time. This is what crashed the node. Not us. Not our 15 ships with drones.
So in short, hush.

I want play and not watch that i must reduce lag. If the EVE-Online is in future only EVE-Lagtime than i quit and i think many others do and than the game is dead... the sad truth is
in attempting to keep the member base happy by providing ever new material, ships, features etc they fail to see what is REALLY needed!!
GET LAG GONE!!!
Tbh - imho - 0.0 is almost unplayable, POS are almost impossible to kill, fleet fights (by that i mean over like 20 ships) is almost IMPOSSIBLE to rely on being a 'fair' fight where tactics and deployment win the day and not LAG. My time with eve is heavily numbered should CCP NOT sort out this probelm.
It has been said to them TIME AND TIME again - - GET RID of the need for GATE TO GATE BOOKMARKS. They acknowledged just the other day that BMS cause lag - - yet they insist on keeping these pointless warp to 15km options. NO decent pvp squad camps an exit gate unless they have a dictor or a bubble. we ALL camp the jump in gate, so it makes NO difference WHATSOEVER to the gameplay OR the time sink as we ALL have BILLIONS of BMs between us.
FFS CCP - READ what ur customer base is saying and SORT UR S*H*I*T OUT
before u allow to go to ruin what must be one of the most advanced 'virtual' environments there is on earth (irl).

Do people really believe that CCP is just ignoring the lag issue? Do you honestly expect them to reply to every complaint about it? There are people at CCP dedicated to working on issues such as lag and there are people working on other things like new content. They can't have every single person in the building stumbling over one another working on a single issue, it just doesn't work that way.
Sure, they need to fix the problem, and they know this better than anyone I'm sure, but I have known very few games such as this one in which lag isn't an issue when hundreds of players are gathered in the same area. I just don't believe the technology exists at this point to support this kind of play.

Edited by: Michuh on 11/09/2006 16:24:07 Edited by: Michuh on 11/09/2006 16:23:16 Hmm I understand all the frustrations about lag etc, but ultimately technology today dosnt exist in a cost effective way to deal with the numbers of players trying to fight in a single fight at the same time.. so wake up on that fact people :)
If CCP removes these free trial accounts.. how much of a load will that take off the system?, also how many players will CCP loose, as a result if they did remove these 15 day free trial accounts?
If ccp remove drones, and remove bookmarks, can we get estimates on how much of an improvement to performance on the Tranqulity cluster there will be? If somthing this drastic is done.. There will of course need to be some SERIOUS balancing being done to counteract the removal of these features of the game..
At the moment the Eve cluster is open to DOS attacks.. from 400 man fleets trying to enter the same system.. You cant install Max caps in the system because thanks to human nature, people will abuse game mechanics such as a max player cap in starsystems.. I can already see it.. 100 player max cap in a star system, Hostiles fly in 95 ships, and the 5 defenders are sitting there docked in station..
It may take 5+ years for hardware to be able to handle the current workload people are expecting it to handle..

I find that smaller engaments are a lot more fun. We have had several fun engaments with kos, which are fairly large for s******dly, which were great fun required skill and planing. The only down side is if you bring a small force you have the potential to be uber blobed by a larger force making it a waste of time. These fights happen once in a blue moon but are allways great fun. I have no suggestion of how to fix this problem and to be honeset I dont think it can be done without instanced combat, which would suck just my opinion.

It is not the players' job to make a game function correctly.
If the server cannot handle the number of people it currently experiences, then split the server.
If the game cannot handle 200 pilots in a single system fighting, then create in-game mechanics that prevent 200 pilots from fighting in a single system. Better yet, create in-game mechanics that will keep them from _wanting_ to fight in a single system.
Blaming the users for failed game implementation is pointless. EVE encourages large group activity. Large groups kill better, can be used to overwhelm strong defenses, are basically required in order to pull down entrenched assets, yet it fails to provide a reasonable game environment to support such self-encouraged goals.
EVE has a lot of good aspects to be proud of, but CCP is doing poorly at responding to increasing scale. Stop blaming players for this inadequacy.

Here here.
So how about it? While I realize server farms can't be built, upgraded, or whatever in a day - a simple, "hey folks, we realize there's an issue and we're looking into it" would certainly go a long way here.
Am I being completely moronic in expecting or hoping that CCP will at least acknowledge this issue? We all get various things from this game, but if we start canceling wars, skirmishes, battles, etc etc because we're fed up with the lag or just don't want to sit through it anymore what is there really to keep us around? I'm not trying to threaten anyone or any such nonsense, but it seems to me that massive fleet battles are something that have evolved over time and in part from game mechanics and the direction the player base and CCP has taken the game.
And yes, I suppose we could all restrict ourselves to ___ sized roving gank squads, no drones allowed, each side agreeing to field no more than ___ pilots, (did I mention no drones allowed!!!), no bubbles, no ships larger than ______ since larger ones cause more load on the server than smaller ones (I have no idea, nor do I care I'm making a point I think) BUT then what are we left with? A dumbed down version of Eve - one that doesn't quite match the vision and expectations many of us have for it, one that simply isn't the Eve we've enjoyed in the past.
In my not so humble opinion, Eve should to continue to grow and expand in a way that supports large scale fleet battles for those who choose this particular style of play. It should be able to support this on the same "server" as has been touted since beta.
You can't give a group of players several shiptypes, named and crafted after real life naval vessels (whessels!?!) and tell them not to amass great fleets in order to go looking for trouble or to defend their territory. If I wanted to just do that 1v1 stuff, I would have stuck to "Battleship". "You sank my tech II assault frigate!" just doesn't have the same ring to it in a space game. :D
Or,,, something... *shrug*
