Originally by: WhitePhantom The problem is with the Realtek device, not Eve....
Hard to fix a problem if its the devices fault or at least the driver.
However you want to word it is irrelevant to actual point. The problem is with advanced sound effects used in eve and this hardware, (turning off acceleration shows this). Is it worth their time to make an option in the client to disable sounds that are causing the crashes, possibly, possibly not.
I should state I have this problem at the moment and I am wondering if its related to the skipping jukebox issue, which I also have.

Eve supports only two channel stereo, and does not support EAX effects.
My 5.1 headphones stopped crashing when I specified simple stereo headphones and no EAX effects (off) in its control panel before starting Eve. (Accelleration left at full)
Try setting your system to 2 channel sound and NO special effects to see if this will fix your crashes.

To those of you saying it's a hardware issue.
Why does it only happen in Eve then? If it was a true issue with the chipsets all my games should be dying. Eve, HL2, quake4,FEAR, STALKER, etc etc etc should all be unstable if this was a pure chipset issue. The only time my system becomes unstable is when playing eve.
Maybe realtek did something wrong, but CCP's screwed something up too if their game is the only one with issues. ------ I am in blood! Stepp'd in so far that, should I wade no more, it would be as tedious as going over. -MacBeth |

Well this really sounds like an "advanced" sound engine that some of you mentioned. To me it sounds like some old piece of **** software. For the love of god, update this ridiculous bad sound engine with something new.
I have a Creative X-fi (the expensive card none of you are willing to buy), and i Still have these errors. Man this is just too much.
30 or so other games works fine unlike this game that strangles my computer in a blink.

Just saw this topic after I posted my problem here.
I recently got a (secondhand)SB 5.1 Live digital and also have similair problems. I only experiance problems when firing my guns (artys) I get a slight *****ling aftersound. Soming it got so worse it ctded EVE or rebooted my machine. I only have this machine, a asrock conroe865pe since friday, before that I ran a NF2 board with a soundstorm chip, no problems there.
BTW disabling EAX, that is done in the AudioHQ right, when no effect is selected then its off? ________________________________________________

I have bought new sound card that has nothing to do with realtek chipset or drives and same sh.. is hapening. What should i do CCP? Buy another Sound card????????????? And this topic should be renamed to SOUND PROBLEMS not only realteks. Cmon 5 of mine corp members have the same problem and we have to play without any sound. I know there so MANY people that have the same problems but they are not posting in here. I hope ur trying to solve this issue asap but this is little bit to much frustrating.

I know someone solved problem with realtek cards using the R1.2 driver (the actual driver is R1.7 on realtek site) but this is incompatible with newest onboard audio like mine ALC880 7.1 (hope it can help someone)
disabling hw acceleration help to avoid most BSOD but I hear some strange sound sometimes and the speakers sparkle a lot
to confirm Titiana, I noticed the crash when entering in a new "area" (not new space, just when you pass a "software portal") wich requires loading of new sounds... for example: I'm ratting, all fine, I warp to station: a couple of new ships are testing the fitting .. BSOD, I'm in station, undock... BSOD, its like the audio chip dont like the new loaded/played sound :)
I searched but theres no indication of this issue evidently this is a KNOW ISSUE only for us :(

Because CCP would rather pass the buck on to realtek and say its their fault then admit that their audio engine is utterly unmaintainable and broken.
Seeing this issue has existed for the better part of a year with not so much as a post from a dev in this thread. There is no other explanation. ------ I am in blood! Stepp'd in so far that, should I wade no more, it would be as tedious as going over. -MacBeth |

Hi all. Just signed up for the trial but had this problem in tutorial. Soon as fight with training pirate started my PC would reboot. Saw this thread and disabling of hardware acceleration seems to be a work around. Get some poor quality sound though. What's just as disappointing to see is that you don't seem to get any developer feedback here. The MMOG I've been playing would have seen the developers commenting straight away, regardless of whose fault it is.

Sent in multiple bug reports in the last 8 months, after every fresh clean install, hardware change etc. No reply (besides asking for logs, which is hilarious, BSOD = no useful logs anyways), always sent in dxdiag files etc.
Works fine on my cute lil laptop, no sound on my huge bigass desktop.
The problem can be solved by CCP, why don't you?

Signing in with same problem as apparently everyone in here has... When fighting npc's my computer freezes for 2 seconds and it reboots.
I don't have anything of Realtek on my computer, I repeat I don't have anything Realtek related on my pc. I use a Trust 5.1 sound card.
I actually thought it was my AC causing the problems, but now I wasted Ç99,- on a very good AC and the problem is still occurring. I think it is ignorant of EVE not fixing this problem. Also making no official statement isn't helping it either to let me continu playing. I won't be paying a dime until the problem is fixed.

still have the problem, latest drivers from nvidia and realtec didn't help, EVe online is unplayable for me this way (sa far for buying an expensive game-Pc) I'm convinced it's int he eve-gamecode somewhere because none of the other games I play have these kind of problems... I'm not going to turn the sound off on this game at all - that's not a solution.

As soon as an enemy turns up : blue screen of death. Still have the problem, latest drivers from nvidia and realtec didn't help, EVE online is unplayable for me this way (so far for buying an expensive game-Pc) I'm convinced it's in the EVE-gamecode somewhere because none of the other games I play have these kind of problems... Besides, I quit plqying EVe for these sort of issues, and now recently re-tried it with their free 5-days pass. And guess what? It's not really a great proof to get me playing and paying again... when will CCP post an official reply here? When will they admit that this is not a realtec issue but a big bug in their software?
I'm not going to turn the sound off on this game at all - that's not a solution!
- sorry for posting twice, but the forum softwqre has a bug as well that wouldn't let me edit my post properly

Same problem for last 6 months. Undocking, warping, deadspace gates, entering combat area or areas with many wrtecks or other gang members; all causing BSOD. Tried applying fixes to no avail. Good thing I haven't made any workaround purchases. I really don't care who caused/fixes the problem, make it go away! It is the only time since the beginning I have considered unsubscribing. Failing resolution, this may be the only solution for me. Add me to the list of UNSATISFIED CUSTOMERS in this area of concern.

I honestly don't think its worth unsubscribing over.
It's an excellent reason not to buy eve voice though, so you can still kick them right in the wallet.

Wow, how insanely stuck-up. I too have a Creative X-Fi card and aren't having any sound problems with Eve. I suppose the fact that you're having errors and not me may be in some way related to the vengeful hardware gods striking you down for your arrogance.

Before Rev II only got a crash on rare occassions. Since Rev II had many more although they are not consistant either crashing to desktop or rebooting (also had program not responding on rare occassions). Some days can play for 6 hours or more without crashing on other days like yesterday crashes over 10 times making it unplayable.
My sound card is Audigy 2 ZS with the latest drivers and I don't intend to play in silence.
So my solution is simple, closed my last 2 accounts. Maybe reopen them if this problem ever gets sorted out or when I get a new system.
Is it CCP's fault, realtek or in my case Creative's fault. Can't say for sure but the problem exists and if none of them are sorting it out then it leaves it to me to sort out. So I have.
To the rest of you guys happy flying

Thought I better sign in with the same problem. I have updated all of my Realtek drivers, all of my Nvidia drivers, applied the mentioned Windows patches, disabled sound with audio=0, and disabled the sound in game also. I am still crashing to desktop every 5-15 minutes, or rebooting, or finding my screen frozen and not being able to get a response.
I only just re-subscribed to Eve last night after having been a player from way back when (Beta). It's sad these problems still occur.
