Same problem with X-Fi card. Brand new comp that cannot run eve sound due to crashing, freezing, and random reboots. Disabled all eve sound, no problems since.
BS if you as me. At least let us know there is a solution in the works.

up. I think that we constantly need to remind the devs of this issue. that way there's a higher chance that we'll get some kind of acknowledgement.

1. I have cleaned everything and reattached the heat sinks with new putty.
2. I have a run a monitering history of all my heat indexs and there is no heat spikes, voltage drops of any kind.
3. I have tried every fix on this page. I have removed every sound card and have disabled the onboard card same result. Dumped cache. I could not disable sound cause the feature in the cach folder was not there. I have installed new drivers for video card and I have tried rolling drivers back. I have updated every driver on my system. I have unplugged every USB and have check IRQ settings for conflics. I have reinstalled XP 2 times and have down loaded the game 4 times and installed it 7 times. When it does reboot or crash I get no blue screen of death messege even when I turn off the auto reboot. My screen locks up with funny vertical lines over top of my desktop screen. I did recieve a blue sceen one time but had no error messege. What i find funny is this is happening to alot of people and yet you want to blame it on a hardware.
Specs
ASUS p4800 MB socket 478 P4 3.2 Intel chip set prescott 65 ( missing a numer) 36gig WD 10000 rpm HD ATI xt850 radeon 2.5 GIG RAM 3200 I have removed all sound cards.(Tried- SB Live, Realtek, SB Audigy Plat, NONE) 450 watt power supply. Windows XP Pro SP2 DX 9.0c
The game had run fine and then after the set of JAN patchs it started to mess up. I find it funny that we are all having the same issue and you are telling us it is a hardware issue. None of the fixes above worked and Iam getting desperate. I can play any other game with no issues, even one that are more video demanding then this game. My last test will happen tonight as I remove and try to run the game one 512mb ram stick at a time. Iam hoping that it is ram issue and this solves it I will report back as soon as I know. Well after ready this post I thought I would save the trouble of pulling RAM. Seems like it is a Intel chip set issue. Iam running the intel 865 chip set on my ASUS mother board. Please psot your MB maker and chip set and let see if we cna begin to crate a trail.

Well, for me too all problems started with the January patch.
I did everything people suggested here but the only way to be able to play so far is disabling Eve's sound. But this is just a quick temporary fix. NOT A REAL SOLUTION (do you CCP guys hear me?).
So I add my name to this already long list of complaining players : PLEASE CCP DO SOMETHING! forget about translating EVE in schwaben or swahili >> fix this sound problem first since it damages game immersion.

Edited by: Aakron on 18/02/2007 21:51:36 I'm still getting the issue, I thought turning down sound acceleration through DXdiag had fixed it but I have noticed a lockup since.
Spec: Core2duo E6300 Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 2048mb Geil Ram (HIS) ATI X1950Pro
System is memtest and Orthos stable. I've updated all drivers including the february realtek drivers and the microsoft patch that was released to fix problems on dual core cpus.
What I've tried:
Declocking my cpu back to stock speeds from its minor overclock Disabling EAX on my X-Fi sound card software options Putting ATI catalyst AI to "On" Setting sound acceleration to basic through DXDiag Turning Sound off in eve
Tried setting the prefs.ini:
advancedDevice=1 audio=0 buffersize=800 (tried values 80, 800, 1024) suppress.NoAudioHwAcceleration=1
I have tried clearing the cache, in full, including removing prefs.ini and overview settings folders.
My cpu temperature never exceeds 50 degrees.
My graphics card sometimes gets to 67 degrees running two accounts, but it has similarly crashed with the temp only in the 40's.
My client will blackscreen/freeze sometimes with only one account active, it is not related to having multiple accounts open.
I've also got the same freeze/black screen when playing with the SiSi Client.
I have no other problems with my machine in any game, this is related to Eve. ---

How can they? I think they must be playing with the sound off

Just noticed because I can't play eve without the sound due to this Realtek problem, I am getting feedback through my headphones now because of it. Its only very low but it is noticable when no sound is being played. Gets higher and lower if I minimize EVE. Strange ey?

Edited by: Dmian on 20/02/2007 18:22:32 A little irrelevant but... Some info about the HD Audio specs. I've solved the problem by buying a SoundBlaster card, but I'm looking forward to the resolution of this problem, since the integrated HD Audio in my PC (a Compaq) worked flawlessly (except for EVE), and I've lost some functionalities by replacing the sound card (like automatic sound switching when connecting a mic and earphones in the front connectors, etc.) Regards.

I am experiencing this problem too since building my new system which has an Abit AW9D-MAX motherboard (Intel 975 chipset and, yes, you guessed it, REALTEK onboard 7.1 HD Audiomax sound!!!). The BSOD happens only with EVE - ALL my other games (COH, BF2, MTW2, Elder Scrolls etc)run fine. EVE crashes AS SOON AS I AM TARGETED by rats etc. If I stay docked it does not crash. The in-game sound of being "locked" must be pushing the current HD audio driver over the edge - perhaps a bad hardware call?
Disabling hardware acceleration (of the audio) using dxdiag stops the BSOD, so it is obviously an issue with the Realtek sound driver. With acceleration disabled I can play EVE normally but as a consequence I then have problems using Teamspeak (which requires acceleration?), so this is not really the ideal solution. To date, NONE of the REALTEK driver updates solve this problem.
CCP have so far done nothing to help me with this issue apart from the obvious (and rather patronising) "update your drivers" statement. I honestly think that I have researched this problem more than they have over the past two weeks. I work as a PC technician (last 15 years) so I KNOW that its the sound driver!!! It can't be anything else. If they had been bothered to look into it (and so far they don't even acknowledge it) it would be fixed by now...
COME ON CCP / REALTEK! I'm paying for this, REMEMBER?

Edited by: CHAOS100 on 24/02/2007 06:53:58 Intel's build in sound cards have always given me problems and many BSOD's. IMO buy a sound card; I bought a creative XFI and noticed significant sound quality increase, or you could go for a cheaper version.
AFAIK this is not a CCP problem, it is more likely a hardware/driver problem. Make SURE you disable hardware acceleration in the sound and audio devices menu in control panel. It should be on "none". It will sound like crap but you wont get bsod's. --------------

This is a bit ridiculous, i cannot believe they won't even acknowledge this. Out right unprofessional i say. I love this game but they need to fix this and now. This problem won't go away and given the amount of people using realtek systems they cannot ignore it forever. It baffles me how blind they choose to be about this.

It IS a CCP problem. If it wasn't, then it would BSOD every time sound was played. EVE is the only application this occurs in, so how can it not be related?

Gm answer: Hi.
As far as I know, both our developers and the developers of Vivox ( the upcoming addition to Eve ) have contacted them (realtek) aswell. I can only hope that is pressure enough for them to look into their products and send out new drivers that fix it.
Best regards, Senior GM Retrofire EVE Online Customer Support Realtek knows the issue, i hope they are working on it.

It's a Realtek problem because the PC hangs as a result of a legal routine call from the Eve client to the audio driver. The driver is faulty, produce an unexpected error, the audio hangs and brings down the whole system with it. CCP didn't write the HD Audio driver. They had the misfortune of making a game so complex that takes the hardware to the limit. And the hardware (in this case, the driver) wasn't up to the task. That's why. (Or at least, that's what I understood is happening)
It can happen with other software too, it's just that other games are not as demanding or as complex as Eve... CCP don't want us without accelerated audio, they'll loose Vivox clients.

Its a directx issue
when you see people upgrading to vista and using eve (native DX10) and eve slowly migrating to DX10 support and lots of driver issues surfacing with non-DX10 distros it makes a bit more sense than CCP borking the drivers accidentally or not.
more driver providers who are using the unified, multi-os driver packages dont change much in the driver itself other than OS version (you who are using server 2003 know what i mean) or a few minor tweaks here and there to prevent an OS like 98 from having driver-enabled alpha blending or something crazy like that.
its not any ONE parties fault, its the general move from sprites and polygons galore to pixel shading.
think of it this way, drivers being fuel, the gaming government is now introducing a better(relative) source to power our equipment, most of it motivated by vista and its new architecture as it applies to DX10 enhancements and driver support.
IMO the best thing to do is wait it out till the driver providers pry microsofts 'pwnage' from their backside and get used to coding for vista.
you gotta admit, MS pulled a big one on programmers with all the new "features". |
