If you have: Motherboard Chipset 975X, Realtek Sound Onboard
When does it happen : When activating Armor Repair(always) or Fighting NPC Rats(not always but most of the time)
Solution: Disable Sound in EVE. Or. Turn off Sound Hardware acceleration in Control panel -> Sound |

Yes..Yes...I have a dumping PC..blue screen...and a terrible noise coming from my speakers when this event happens..
It all started with this new Revelations-release (before all worked perfecty)...now when I use my Small Artilery-guns I get a PC-dump (When I shoot my Medium Artilery, or Missiles all stays working well).
Also Warping from a Station, as well as Warping to a Station can (not always) dump the PC as well..I noticed that there is now a new sound-track outside the Station (I believe it was not there in the previous version) that together with the Warp-sound will dump the PC...
I have not yet tried your suggestion to switch off sound...but that would be a downgrade of the game-play..having sound is 50% of the fun....
PLEASE: CCP, correct this bug, as soon as possible !

Interesting. I had been having this specific issue too, and it doesn't cause a CTD for me, but completely re-boots my computer. Happens every time when I was starting combat. I'll have to try this temp fix when I get home tonight

Turning off Hardware acceleration "solved" the issue for me, as stated by the OP. I hope it gets fixed sometime soon though. |

I can not find the Sound-acceleration-switch-off, but when I switched off all sound in EVE itself, it works without dumps....but playing without sound is a real drawback

Start Menu -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Sound and Audio Devices
then the Audio-tab - Sound playback and choose Advanced then Performance. And pull the slider there to the Off station. It works.

A great!...thank you...this works indeed, now I have sound back, and no dumping PC anymore.
Thanks

Nice one... why should CCP fix something which has nothing to do with eve or any CCP related product? The error is in realteks audiodriver and realtek is currently working to resolve this issue. And why do i know that? Because i'm in close contact with those working on resolving this issue. there'll be some driver updates the next 1-2 weeks. I already have a half way fixed driver but it's non official. Be sure this will most likely be fixed soon.

Because it worked before the patch, and quality control normally includes basic stuff like checking if the software works on extremely common PC setups. That is not the job of the customer.

The plain and simple truth is the flaw lies in the Realtek drivers. CCP should not have to withold features to their player base because Realtek screws up their driver, nor should they have to create inefficient work-arounds to avoid said screw-up. Players who understand this contact Realtek and inform them that they are not happy with the quality of the product. This ideally induces them to do better in the future (as well as fix the flaw). Players who do not understand this, such as yourself, instead contact CCP about an issue that is not their responsibility. If you want to do some good, stop blaming the people who are not at fault and start looking to those who cause the issues in the first place.

I'm in the same boat, as of revelations the game crashes with any measure of audio hardware acceleration and even without the sound starts to loop after a few hours so I just turned it off completely which definitely detracts from the game.

What new sound features? I don't have a RealTek soundcard, but I'm sure they'd like to know which new features they're missing out on.

The features are irrelevant. The point is CCP is using standard libraries that Realtek is not fully compatable with.

You obviously know something about this sort of thing. So are the new features of the game dependent on the version of the standard libraries that break compatibility?

so basically, there are 2 solutions: - disable Hardware Acceleration for your audio device - disable sounds in EVE
unfortunately, both have big disadvantages in my opinion: - Hardware Acceleration is needed for Ventrilo (and probably TS too?) for it to work properly, especially when a lot of ppl are in the channel - Disabling sounds in EVE: not a nice solution either, because I have two screens, when I look at the left screen I can't see if there is anyone shooting me, so I listen for incoming fire...
In other words: a proper solution from CCP or Realtek (I wouldn't mind if they came out with some good drivers) would be nice

also all who have their sound set to 5.1 could try to set it to stereo/2 channel. at least that helped in two cases of Realtek + P965 chipset. and for those still blaming ccp... it's hard to test it on every hardware combination. also they have a test server where you can test patches and could have complained about the issue earlier. what would you do if you write a game and an hardware manufacturer wrote a bad driver or driver upgrade wich causes troubles for your game? Rewrite the whole code with workarounds for every possible bad driver? That would be nonsense... Anyway if i get the next update for the ALC88X series i'll post them here if realtek agrees.null

Without reading the whole thread I'd suggest updating your Board and sound drivers (if you can). I was having very similar problems on an Intel board. Updating my sound drivers fixed the lot for me.
No more BSoD, No more reboots, No more odd sounds.

Same here. Still, I find that a lot of my classical mp3s go weirdly well with EVE. it's like playing "Platoon" in space ;o)

Thats funny .
The users of the Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS had the same problems in the past . And olso the reboot crash . Disable Sound hardware accelaration in DXDIAG and all the problems ar gone .
But we where always giving CCP a hard time about it . Until Creative gave us a new driver where the bug was fixt And its working fine since then 4 me :)
Klick START Klick RUN Type dxdiag Go to the Sound tab . And turn the accelaration to 0 Or no accelaration .
