umm, maybe you missed the little fiasco last weekend during the Amarr Championship Awards ceremony?
The servers can't handle it.
----------------------------------------- [2003.12.17 06:35:20] Corwin > Orvolle is .4? Doesn't that mean that it's less than .5 ? and isn't .5 what starts the danger level? [2003.12.30 07:15:50] Corwin > Tech 2, IE expanded cargo holds I, MIning lasers 2, etc.... TL2 is being released all around you [2003.12.30 07:21:20] Corwin > tech 2 is released to players. Some players are busy researching the BPs before building stuff. Others are sitting on the BPs making copies to make money off of them that way |

The general idea is we all log on 7th of december and top 10.000 users.. so if you're available that day, leave your pc on even if you have to go afk.

Tease: if the 10,000 spread across many nodes, there wouldn't be a problem. The amarr problem happened because
a) Everybody crammed into one node b) There should have been multiple nodes running that area.

All MMORPGs wane and wax now and then. The numbers will go up drastically again after the next patch, and also if there's a re-release in the US.

They know it's not OK, but they don't give a sh*t. Don't you get it? They don't care about anythign until next year when they are ready to get more numbers. Right now we are just killing time till next year when they drop in player owned items and have a fun game that doesn't get boring after 2 months. They know this, and they've changed the way they develope the game. Net year we will see a change. For now, we're all screwed and just have to either quit or wait. ---------------------------------------

Those 20k+ daily are spread over a number of different servers too. Eve is all on one server. As long as no one tries to use the highway system that day, it should all be good. "I'm comin' for ya, and Hell's comin' with me!" |

Ive not seen a single post by any of the devs or polaris for ages, this seems to me to show something pretty damn wrong.
If i were to lose eve i would suffer from the worst withdrawl symptoms ever -----

Edited by: StealthNet on 25/11/2003 20:30:30 I'll be there. I just set my palm and cellphone agendas to warn me if I forget that.
BTW I think it will be very funny to see the CCP RP news when the servers go down...
... and I think the record is not about most players online in 1 server. It's about most players online in 1 world. If it is the first case, then EVE will never get that record, since the EVE universe is spread across dozens of servers.
BTW Im editing my sig to show this. This thread may be gone by december 7th so ppl may forget it. _______________________________________________

So be it
I never play on sundays without lag. It won't be different from the last 6 months _______________________________________________

Quote: This game is on it's way out.
The "event" is more than likely a ploy by CCP to create the idea of commercial worth.
Look at the server stats. They are falling. Eve hasn't even managed 5k users on sundays anymore.
Not to mention what "record" are they even breaking? Most other good mmo's have 20k+ daily. Unless you're talking single instance of the server application running. But that's more a testament to load balancing than a popular game.
Eve is a great game don't get me wrong. However CCPs only true fault in all this is not seeing these server load/network/client problems before hand and adjusting the rules of the game to make them bearable.
Sorry but I won't be there on dec-7 and I encourage the rest of the people who play to do the same thing. I see it as sending a message that everthing is ok and the opposite is true. An empty server on dec-7 will send a more valid message that everything is NOT ok.
But of course to each their own.
I have to respectfully disagree.
10k players online is a goal that has been set by CCP itself. If we get 10k players online we will have the opportunity to show them that this is an unachieavable goal right now, due to lag.
If we get these players online and the servers start dropping people or going offline, we will show that the infra-structure is not ready to even fulfill their standards.
I think it's better than watching a diminishing online graph in EVE-I. _______________________________________________

So what's the point? The Amarr championships already embarrassed CCP no end (even if they are too proud to admit it). 10,000 pilots in space - 'without a crash' is a worthy goal. It would be like a Prime 95 test for online gaming, but there needs to be parameters. Just having 10,000 online (sitting in stations) wont cut it imo.
One good test would be to get all the pilots to set a return fixed destination of say 20 jumps and just repeat, going back and forth - the servers need to be stressed.

The EVE infra-structure is designed to load balance players. But it is being done not by moving in and out the load from servers, but by geographically splitting the world.
So if we all try to do a specific thing, like using the market, travelling to a specific region, etc etc., it would be a good server test, but not a good concept test, IMHO.
I think that we need to get 10K+ players online doing what they use to. That would be enough.
BTW, let's boost this. CCP has roughly 15 days to sort lots of things out _______________________________________________
