The Eve-Online Forum Moderation Team is now accepting applications for moderators. We are known as the Communications Relay Commission and is one of many divisions within the official volunteer program known as the Interstellar Services Department or ISD. We monitor the EVE Message Boards to make sure the Forum Rules are followed, while interacting with the community.
Requirements:
- Good communication skills including good written skills.
- Active participation in the discussions on the EVE Message Boards.
- A minimum of 3 months playing EVE.
- No forum bans issued, a low amount of warnings may be accepted.
- Experience using IRC is prefered but not a requirement. We ask you to include your experience with IRC somewhere in the application.
- Access to an email client
- 18 years of age is a minimum, older is a merit.
- Knowledge in Eve's back story and Roleplaying Experience is a bonus.
- Knowledge of the Eve-Online CCG (Eve: The Second Genesis) is a plus. We ask that if you have knowledge of the CCG please put that somwhere in the application
You do not have to be an expert in English, but you will have to know enough to be able to communicate with it. You will have to be able to read enough to moderate effectively.
A well written application is a huge plus! We do look at other areas as well, but a well written application will greatly increase your chance. Do not apply with trial accounts as they will not be processed.
You can apply by clicking the ôInterstellar Svcs Deptö button under ôEVE INSIDERö in the menu to your left. If you have already submitted an application please update it. Make sure that you've checked the ôEVE Forum Mod (CRC)ö choice under question 5 (What area are you interested in volunteering for?).
You can read more about the EVE Volunteer Program (ISD) and EVE Forum Moderator Team (CRC) in the FAQ, Player Guide and on our website.
Our systems rely on you having the correct email in your account details. If you have an old email there that you don't use we will not be able to contact you. Make sure your email is updated under account management! Also, if you have already applied and you haven't heard from us, check if your email spam filter may have blocked our email to you (especially with web-based email systems such as hotmail, yahoo etc.). We make an effort to ensure that every application receives a reply.
It is highly recommended to write your application answers in a word processing program such as MS Word, and copy/past them into the responce box. The application process has a tendency to reset if you take too long writing your answers.
If you want to join a great group of people to volunteer with and assist with the game we all love so much, apply today!!!
If you have any questions regarding the application process, please ask them here or e-mail us at [email protected].

Please... let me out of here!!
But seriously, folks - being ISD has been a fantastic experience that I would thoroughly recommend to anyone who cares about the game. I've had so much fun, met so many great people (some of whom have become valued friends) and have had the chance to put something back into the community I love.
Plus I get to lock stuff!
So go on. Go for it. You never know...

EDIT: You did not apply for the Forum Mods. If you wish to become a member of CRC you would have to send your application again and toggle the CRC-Forum Moderator box.

Yes, signing "I hereby Giveth My Soul to Wrangler" isn't something for people under 18, and is actually illegal in several states.
Oh, and on the plus side of being a moderator, you get to hijack threads like this! :D

It's a Non Disclosure Agreement (NDA) and Terms of Play (ToP), which basically means you might have access to information you may not tell others and some rules on how to behave. But it is legally binding and breaking it can have severe consequences.

The minimum requirement in ISD is 6 hours per week. However, this is something easily achieved. Most of our moderators tend to put in more time than that though.
In any case, quality over quantity.

Rule #1 for forum mods: You should know the rules and not break them. Forum *****s bend and break those rules a lot, as I'm sure you are aware of. That's the main reason why a "forum *****" can't get in. Secondly, DS's posting time would decrease and people would start getting worried. ___

Being a part of ISD is a blast, if you've ever been helped in eve this is a wonderful way to give back while getting the chance to explore the game from a new angle. Beyond the basics you'll also get chances to interact with the people at CCP more often and the members of the other ISD divisions.
Plus you get to spam threads \o/

Rule #1 for forum mods: You should know the rules and not break them. Forum *snip* bend and break those rules a lot, as I'm sure you are aware of. That's the main reason why a "forum *snip*" can't get in. Secondly, DS's posting time would decrease and people would start getting worried.
Pwnt by Eshtir
Also, to become a moderator, one mustn't have any bans; this makes it completely impossible for anyone who frequently post on the forums to become a moderator, as the forum warning/ban system is designed specifically to penalize people who post more often, while benefiting people who troll and break the rules.
Example:
Forum hoe breaks a rule every 1000 posts. After 10,000 posts, he's banned forever. He probably had fewer bans per post than anyone else on all of EVE-O, but that doesn't matter; he's gone.
Troll posts a whole bunch of insults, flames, and outright attacks. He gets a warning or two, and moves to a new alt. No loss. I have seen quite a number of blatant trolls on the forum; often if you see a trolling thread, you can look at his last 15 posts and see that nearly all of them are insults or the like. However, since he doesn't post that much, its unlikely a moderator will ever notice these posts. I've seen people get away with telling people they would kill them IRL, massive sprees of curse words, and so on, without ever getting their posts even edited.
But if I even got remotely close to even touching the border of a rule, I'd get banned. And as I browse the forums I see boatloads of attacks and smacktalk that is far worse than what I've gotten warnings for in the past, yet never gets edited. I look back at it later, even after a mod cleans the thread, and its still not edited. I once got a warning for telling someone (without any insults) that there were too many whines about server lag on the forums and that they should try to be more constructive. I'm completely serious.
I don't fault the mods. The system is flawed, not its execution.
Wrangler told me he would fix this. Its been over a year. And I'm still waiting.
I hope that whoever joins the mod team in this recruitment drive attempts to counter the systemic bias of the current moderation system. That means tempbanning obvious trolls and flame-only characters on sight and judging the more prolific forum posters by their overall posting habits, not on a single post which may have crossed the line by a few angstroms.
P.S. I guess this is discussing moderation, but it is a reasonable discussion.

The form i used didn't have specific questions about email clients or irc related experience... or even age. So that part kind of got left out from it.
Also, im not that sure it got sent either, it uses the cached username on the site to send the application, right? where would i get an answer in this case?

There ahve been a large number of applications and the moderation team elads are screening them now. However, please be patient if you have not received a response after a week or two. The team leads still have to perform their other duties, regardless of Wrangler *****s the whip or not.

Yeah, it's hard to post several thousand times and not slip up here and there.
Every 1000 helpful forum posts should remove a warning from the record. Although DS would have negitive warnings, and just go off the deep end to even it out.

Judging by the number of typos in kieron's post, I'd say Wrangler's whip is currently *****ing quite nicely on his lil' knuckles.

CCP couldn't PAY me to moderate this whiny bunch of forum *****s. I understand why. In a game where loss is permanent, you will have an above average amount of whiners.
Still, it would take some sort of creative reward (deposit 5 billion isk into my account on the first of every month) to even get me to consider such a masochistic undertaking.

Ah, guessed as much :)
Some more background info seeing as I'm now not rushing to get to College ;)
I'm UK based, and doing an IT Degree (coming towards the end of the first year).
I have to admit, I don't chat all that much on the boards, but I read it pretty much constantly ;) I probably spend more time playing EVE than I should, but doesn't everyone?

Hi Guys!
If you're applying to the CRC, you probably shouldn't post details in this thread about your app!
(peers up at some of the above posts)
They really want it kept secret if you are a volunteer and that might make them think you won't be able to keep it private. (I wouldn't even post in this thread at all if you are applying to the CRC!)
Especially since so many people want to be a mod they can be as choosy as they wish!
If you want to include anything special about you to market yourself to them, (like IRC/CCG/Fiction Knowledge), just put it in a box that you don't need to use a lot of (have you been banned from other mmos, etc.) and use the space there.

Goats are actually quite picky eaters, the idea that they eat anything is something of a myth, as any good goat breeder will tell you. What they do like is variety being browsers rather than grazers unlike sheep or cows.
As for petunias I did the first year of a HND in horticulture, so I'd be good at looking after Wrangler's flowers.
However with just a month of playtime under my belt I think I'll continue learning coding and perhaps work on my Icelandic and look for a paid position somewhere.
Besides I like my current sig image too much to want a new one already. _________________________________________________________

In addition to having goats in real life, we had one as our unit mascot in Korea. HE ATE THE BUMPER OFF OUR HWMMV ( Hummer). ( Yep, kevlar tastes goooood).
He later died from eating a metal can.
Yes, most my goats are a bit picky ( like pigs, they prefer organic matter). However, you can't stake them out with rope, cause rope tastes good. We keep them in a rather largish pen. Its ones like our mascot that contribute to the sterotype.
Yes the goat offer stands, unless you previously had a girlfriend named * baabaara*. Then I reserve the right to refuse, I do care about my animals

PIRATEN II
NOW RECRUITING pilots of all types noobs miners pvpers capital pilots more ships more reserves more power and an Alliance like none other is soon on the way an Alliance that will shatter all benchmarks today. The plan is yet a fertile seed it will take a year or so to realise but I will get there' and i know u will get there with me
PIRATEN II isnt just a pirate corp but also a college in the dark arts a wealth of knowledge and support for its members. PLAYER OWNED STATIONS ready for launch, with all the plans to make monthly dividends for its members a mining outpost ready for launch also and Capital built ships from PIRATEN II also.
I have been in many corps I have been here since the start of EVE and have done and seen MUCH. the most important traits for me in a corp are good members TRUSTWORTHY who will defend u to the hill wrong or right and hand out the Rollecking after. Members should not fear being kicked from the corp for not being in an op. Tax should be spent wisely and translucently all memebrs have audit VEIW enabled. Not feathering the nests of the CEO CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER or Directors as is usually the case. a CEO who is active along with his directors is 100% crucial in my corp regular meetings plans aims goals Targets and objectives on a weekly basis is the order of the day in PIRATEN II. THERE IS NOTHING WORSE THAN BEING IN A STIMULI FREE environment it numbs the mind LOOK at the majority of the alliances ine eve to see it for ur self. Focusless/ stagnation and Alliance implosion is usually the latter stage is. MY CORP IS A CORP WITH AIMS JUST BECUASE IT HAS A Skull and bones doesnt mean missoning mining trading plexing are banned , quite the reverse really it better a corp have all this and much more on the drawing board is my philosphy. A CORP that communicates TEAMSPEAK server ready. "A team that communicates is a team that succeeds".
Help, THIS IS the most important aspect of a well run organisation to be able to give knowledge or support to grow ones members, "with knowlege comes POWER". with help comes trust. D ROYAL welcomes all
And I Know in my heart that with knowledge as my Armor trust as my Defender AND Loyalty As mY Sword This corpoaration soon to be Alliance, we will walk hand in hand United under the PIRATEN II Banner Rellentlessly bringing order where there is Chaos and I will shine the torch of justice and hope where there is Despair.
THIS WILL HAPPEN.

Zip. Nada. Nothing. And still we are usually a very happy bunch of people. A mystery? Nope. Most of us spend a lot of time reading the forums anyway, so why not make ourselfs useful while we are at it? Thats my reasoning anyway. I dont even see it as work... to me, its more a chance to be able to clean up the bad posts I see while being here. If you want that option too, apply for crc.

Log in to the EVE Player website and go to the sign-up page. Due to the volume of applications received, we regret that we are unable to respond to all applicants. If your application is approved, you will be contacted with further information about interviewing and training.
I haven't received a response, and I applied when this thread was opened. (and when Tirg finally hijacked my sig... thanks! Someone wubs me...)
Point being, will I receive a response either way? Jacques says yes, FAQ says maybe not... Can someone with authoritah clarify?
Trust me. As Vice Admiral of the Forum Moderator Team I can say that everyone who has applied will receive a reply from us regarding their application. I think it is important that someone who has shown an interest in CRC/ISD and taken the time to apply receives a response from us. Please ensure that your email spam filter hasn't stopped our emails from coming through - you might have missed something!
I have to admit that we've had a tremendous response, and I'm very pleased to see so many players interested in volunteering to help the EVE-Community. Thank you!
As we do have limited amounts of time on our hands due to real life committments, we need a bit of time to process all of the applications. Bear with us please, we're working on it.
-Jacques
PS: posting in this thread that you applied to the program doesn't really help your chances. Your application to ISD should be kept secret.

I applied to be a mod some months ago and was rejected, I asked for feedback as to why but never received a response.
I am guessing now it was because I had received some forum bans but still it would have been nice to get feeback.

Rule #1 for forum mods: You should know the rules and not break them. Forum *snip* bend and break those rules a lot, as I'm sure you are aware of. That's the main reason why a "forum *snip*" can't get in. Secondly, DS's posting time would decrease and people would start getting worried.

Busy busy... they just recently got to you?
I even sent in an application, seeing as the mods seem to be very liberal even with someone like me that has been known to question moderation and have discussions with the mods off forum. (Hell, I should have even had a warning by now)
I guess I made an impression, since I never got an answer period
I guess that makes me a meta-moderator since I give the mods a hard time off the forums
I just like to debate. :)
Good luck on your endeavor.

Hey, do you guys still get to play and if you do, are you allowed to complain about <xyz> problem? If so, does the complaint/suggestion/begging get any prefferential treatment?
Also, what kind of commitment is required (i.e. hours per day, posts nerfed, drooling through email)?
I guess some other things about the position or what you are looking for in candidates would be helpful.....

Yeah we still play as normal players and we can complain about stuff as well, but, as our player chars only. We don't get preferential treatment as such, but since BHs are our close friends we end up testing a lot on SiSi and filing bug reports (Hi Virrago!). Your player accounts are untouched with becoming an ISD.

Ok, so when evaluating candidates, what is the actual criteria looked at in the consideration of selecting? i.e. In game actions versus real life. Essentially what I am getting at is that is it a competitive process based upon the qualifications of the individuals who apply or some other determining process?
For example some of us are completely different in real life versus what our gameplay may suggest. At times someone might slip up to reveal their in game character and if that in game character is heavily involved in alliance politics say, the less skillful members of the playerbase would make a huge issue. How is that handled? Has it been considered?
And does being a long time former irk warr1or/channel takeover specialist back in the day count as irc experience? :)
