Okay, I have seen many threads regarding some sort of mining command ship, that gives the command ship link bonus to the mining foreman links. I have done some thinking, and I believe that if you are going to branch ORE out into a new class of ships, that it should be a few different models, each with some specific purpose. The following posts will represent my ideas for the Prospector class of mining support ships. Manufactured by ORE to augment the already awesome ore stripping abilities of it's mainstay product offerings. The skillset is a non combat oriented one, which makes more since. Something I never liked about the battlecruiser as a mining support ship was that you had to go through so much combat ships oriented training, for a non combat role. The Prospecting skill is the new Spaceship Command skill used for this class of ship. The three ships are different sizes, ranging from destroyer, to cruiser, and up to a battlecruiser sized beast. Don't confuse these with the combat versions though, as they are definately not for the battlefield.

The Armadillo is a real workhorse. While it's size and tough skin might resemble a battlecruiser, it is most at home picking through asteroids, and directing barges to the richest ore. In experienced hands, its advanced electronics can turn any rag tag group of workers into a highly effecient, managed team, capable of stripping every last spec of valuable ore from any belt.

A Dev blog also states that ORE is coming out with a capital ship:
"And talking about capital ships, the rumour is that ORE have one in the works. Unofficial sources state that it's not a miner per se, but is something every industrialist wants to have in his backyard."

first of all the new ORE capital ship is nothing more then a thought, and furthermore it'll be industrial sided so no real mining ship, i can see merit in the mining ships proposed here.
but if you're going to use survey the survey system 'll need to be improved, namely the survey scanner as it isn't worth 1 isk at the moment, also i think the skills should be raised a bit more...

mining drones that mine 24/7 would be much better ....
you skill up - you buy your drone ... you set the quarry you take it to a system and it mines and flies back and forth - this could be a pos system or whatever ...!

Thats some good suggestions there.
But i would like to see them be more dedicated at their "job". Meaning no drone bay or missile points. Also, the turret slots should be confined to mining lasers/strip miners.
The scout should have some small defensive ability (the way it is now), as it won't be mining much (scouting). So perhaps remove the mining link bonus.
But a great idea imo.
And about the mining cap ship. I got a skill book for a mobil base in my hanger. Can't remember how i got it and have yet to see any ship require it.. I do hope thats the ship the book refers to

Edited by: Clansworth on 21/02/2007 10:34:33 I kept the Foreman link bonus on all three ships, simply because I was keeping it consistant across the entire class of ship (like it is on the battlecruisers). The small version wouldn't really have the cap to make use of it well. I kept a mix of launcher/turret to make it race non-specific. The slots are not really for mining, they are for providing some light support over it's crew of miners. As for the Survey scanner, I have posted a few times (I'm sure they are lost to the forum gnomes now), about my suggested improvements to the scanner. Mainly, that it is incoroporated into the overview, instead of its own window. Basically have a new column for size. Also, I would like for the survey scanner to maybe give a boost in some slight way to the mining crew. Not necessarily in yield, but maybe a slight boost to the roids content. For instance, when a squad member is mining from a roid that is in scanner range of the squad commander, the miner still recieves his calculated ore units, but the roid is only dropped like 95% of that or something. This would imply that the scanner is finding some of the more hidden ore in the asteroid, and helping to coordinate the targeting of the lasers. Of course, this ability could maybe be in a new module, which could be somewhat based ont he target painter (but uses the survey skill instead).

on thought, what if you gave it a bonus to using scan probes, they are planning on moving most astroid belts into the exploration system
So a lancher hard point, and a extra high slot for it. and maybe a bonus to scanning for cosmic sigs.
thoughts?

My first ship idea (the ANT), does have a bonus to scan probes. Same bonus that is found on the survey ship of each race.

I firmly believe no single ship should be able to mine more than the Hulk. I think further developement in mining should be through more sophisticated teamwork.

The devs already confirmed, in the second to last live dev blog, that they are working on some kind of capital ship or mining support ship. They didn't say much about it except it definitely would not be a giant rock sucker.

o/ Clansworth! Followed the link in your sig when I looked at my old post about exploration ships (sig link). I have to say I quite like your ideas here, even though I'm not a dedicated miner, I might be up for going into something like this for people who are.
Couple of potential issues though, not too hot on the Ant's blanket 'modules require astrometrics' bonus, perhaps something like a cycle time reduction for survey scanners might be more in line with the ships use? Then again I may be wrong.
The other niggle was the Mole's Logistics bonus, energy transfers and shield transfers? That sorta leaves out armour reppers doesn't it? I know that armour reps are cap heavy, so you could just make sure everyone's got a fat tank which is then supplemented by the energy transfers, but that means people have to sacrifice fitting slots on their ships.
I'm not sure how you'd get around that though, with no racial traits you can pick the right ship in the class for your group. Perhaps a bonus to all three in one swoop would work?
Either way it'd be nice to see some love in some form like this for miners, the capital is nice to hear about as some attention, but it still falls prey to the 'bigger toys for the richer people' problem, which means the average miner won't get use of it.

Yeah, I'm still around, just not much forum whoring time lately. Hadn't checked in on the old posts in a while. I still really want these ships in game!
Some responses: The Astrometrics bonus is there because of the newer hidden roid belts. It was discussed that they are thinking of phasing out the static belts, and all will be through exploration, hence the need for miners to have a scout ship. Something that can let them find their precious quarry effeciently, while not wasting the time on unnecessary combat skills. This is where the Ant comes in.
As for the Mole's bonus, i meant it to have armor rep bonus as well, I had just done some copying from logistics ships, and apparantly, i had missed it. It will be remedied shortly.
And so far, no amount of 'Dev Blog confirmations' have resulted in an ORE capital ship making it in game. And in all honesty, I'm not sure that they would be able to get people to USE an ORE capital ship, unless it did something that no other ship could do, that being the mobile refinery. Perhaps the ORE capital ship should require Prospecting V and Exhumers V to fly, instead of Battleship V. Seems to make more sense, at least to me.

I second these...Mining/Industry could definitely benefit from some more mining-support style ships other than the new cap ship. Anything that is specifically geared for scanning down gravimetric/asteroid sites, and giving belt ore totals etc. Being able to scan an entire belt at once and see how much ore is in it (totals) of various types would be invaluable. Especially as it would be able to give "noobs" more useful roles in a mining fleet than just hauling, while they are training for barges/exhumers...

Another thought that comes with the new Rorquan, why not make one of these ships able to fit a Cyno generator, so that it can scout systems for belts and then say "hey mining fleet...here's a spot" and throw up a destination for the Rorquan...

I think you can fit a cyno on most anything. But of course bonuses similar to the recon ship cyno bonuses make perfect sense.

Yeah, of course minus the ECM bonuses and such in favor of scanning range bonus and the like.
While mining link bonus priority is fairly low to me (I wouldn't put them on the destroyer or cruiser sized ships), something for quick scanning down of Gravimetric sites (Specifically, not for the other sites) and cataloging of the 'roids there with light defense abilities (high sec/destroyer/newbie ship) or probing/cyno (lowsec/cruiser ship) seems much more useful than having to field two pilots...one to probe down in a cov ops and one to pop the cyno in a recon, etc...the Battlecruiser size wouldn't need the probing and cyno bonus but the tractor beam can come in handy for less-than-independantly-wealthy small or high-sec corps that can't afford or use the Rorqual...yet. ;)
