Arrows indicate aggression guys, not who's winning. That's what those blank hexagons are. Thought it was pretty obvious that it meant the resident alliance was losing control.
Downloading Zip so I can play around with it a bit, make those aesthetic changes people have been asking for.
Can't correct any glaring mistakes, as it's DT and ingame map doesn't work so well during DT
Stay tuned for edit

Edited by: welsh wizard on 02/03/2007 11:23:38 Dump the hexagons or at least make them very small (unless they're meant to represent constellations?). Could make the colours a bit more cohesive too.
Should incorporate some kind of dot for station locations? Shrink the size of the font and just use something blocky and futuristic not the current goth/vampire one.
Make it clear what the arrows mean, it's obvious to me but to anyone facing the arrows it obviously means their impending doom. Try and find out how exactly the assaults are going....
If any attacks have been halted and some kind of stalemate ensues put a horizontal bar in front of the attacking arrow( |<-- ). If the attack is working and space is being taken perhaps ( <<---- ). If the attack has been repelled and the tables turned then obviously just turn the arrows around. Obviously as the attacking force moves forward you could change the colour of the cells. Most importantly get both parties play on events but always refer to map sovereignty/ask people who has sovereignty.
I'm not saying this is a "great way to do it!", just an idea.
Good that you've finally recognised who actually holds the space and given them their dues.
It's ok atm and I think after a few revisions it'll end up looking alot prettier and with actually displaying sovereignty it'll be pretty accurate. Joshuas map looks great but it'd be better if it reported actual sovereignty and perhaps station locations.
Remember you're never going to satisfy everyone and no matter how much crap you take, take it on the chin and listen to everyones opinions. It's the only way you're ever going to get close to impartiality in this game.

Edited by: Dawson on 02/03/2007 11:28:42 Edited by: Dawson on 02/03/2007 11:28:19 I'm suprised no ones done this in Flash or something like that.
Could even do it dynamicly, alliance diplomats of each alliance log in state there claim. Each alliance diplomat then has a vote on weather they agree etc, winning party gets there update on the systems they claim.
Alternativly they could make a claim, then the map mapper has the final go ahead on weather update is made.
would have to find a way to export the map data. Infact i'm sure someoen did it once in a 3rd party program. Convert that to php or something.
php/flash, i'm sure it could be done.

hmmmm.....
How can it be that you have stated in the map that Curse Alliance is holding GW??... Last i checked they don't have souverenity in any region... And us in CoW and others keeps knocking their socks off in every battle.. including the 23 billion worth freighter *loL*...
So better to set GW as contested space instead of just making CA the owners, now that they are your allies.... (almost throwing up by that thought)

Edited by: Tako Alvarez on 02/03/2007 13:12:24 Kudos to Goons and especially to Stahlregen,
I like the map for its being a bit different. What I like is the addition of aggressors and where they moving to through the arrows. And with the vissible underlying systems added it even got better. I like Josh¦s map as well and afterall I like it much more to have a choice between 2 maps then just 1. Unbiased maps are hard to maintain to all sorts of reasons, lack of info and missunderstandings and so on and so forth.
But I assume and believe that both map makers are trying their best to get the info out to all us players which are not right in the middle of action. For that you have my greatest respect and appreciation.

I gotta say, I really like this version of it.
Kudos to the Goons for making the map, I really like the new ideas in it, and having it update more often will certainly be nice.
Oh yeah, and SMASH and PURE are no longer fighting, may want to remove that agression arrow in Geminate. Feel free to look at the posts in Joshua's map thread for confirmation.

Nice map, although a little too colour by numbers for me. Ideal for your average goon pilot though im sure.
But as always, its what isn't on this map that makes me smile. Looking at it, you would think the goonies were safe in their own homes

Much better version imo. Good job on the map. I feel this map offers a better overview of the situation when zoomed out. I preffered josh's old map before the resolution change.

Very nice, regardless of the accuracy I love the use of a hex grid as your borders.
Nice and familiar, and slightly easier to follow than the other major map. Which is probably slightly more precise than yours due to the loss of hexes.
