Okay everytiem i come and have a look here people are *****ing about downtime and for CCP to change the time of the DT's well heres a few things for you guys
1) You expect the Dev team to wake up at 3/4 in the morning just to go to work and do the DT i think not which is why they do it at 11am its the middile of the day for them. doing it at like 2am gmt would not solve any problems just makes every one over in the states ***** and moan about having Dt in their prime time gaming.
2) If you don't like the god damned downtime stop bloody *****ing about it. and stop playing. im sure you can find a game thats equally as good and addictive as EVE.

Edited by: OMG Celizatis on 22/03/2007 13:55:08 I should also point out that, in games like WoW... a patch meant 2-5 hours of ATTEMPTING to log in after every change, and that they took the server down at random times during the week afterwards to make adjustments (I remember 2 patches in the 1 month that I played that had that result).
FFXI, a patch meant that some servers would randomly crash for a few days afterwards.
DAoC, a patch meant that the game tended to lag for a few days until things were optimized.
And for the person who said Eve is fragile.... Yes. It is. Nobody else has every done anything like Eve. Other MMO's can be more stable with server updates because they run a load of 1500 people on average per server, with rarely more than 2000 playing. And that causes lag. Most servers can't handle more than 3000. EVE is now running 30,000 for most of a day. If lots of MMO's were running the same way, this might not be a problem. But as for now, there isn't any big list of problems for running a massive game server like this, no big list of tips and tricks to keep it working 24 hours a day for months. Its one group of people who have to take and solve problems as they occur.

I don't pay my subscription to keep 4 devs happy. I pay it so I can play this game because it IS brilliant.
It's people taking the attitude of point 2 above that keeps idiots like EA in business.

Its very hard to find an online payment game with out downtimes. Ofc there will be tech. issues after a patch.
EvE Online is the game with the most problems with extended downtimes. Haven't seen anything like this in any other game. As a user of EvE for abit over 2 years. You just know that you don't let a skill run out around downtime or and patch days. You pick a skill and get your self aleast 6-10 hours, cause you'll never know if the server is crashing and extended downtime will come of an resualt of that.
Another think I wondering about. Why do you set a time (where you think the server will run again) and just keep extende that time. Seems to me like you do not know wtf to do. Insted of just realising that there is a big problem and give your self time enough to fix it insted of pushing the downtime even further.
Well then again we have to remember its just a freaking game.
Fun to play when it works. Just sadly it has so many issues.

/agree with the whole CCP not saying "Oh..13:00" then "oh we meant 13:30" then "Yep 14:00 is where it is" Just go like "Itll be up before 17:00" and call it good. Yeesh. If i knew it would be up at 17:00 at the latest, i woulda got a few hrs of sleep. Guys chill out its a game (a great game but a game none the less).
Am I p*ssed that my skill finished 1 hour ago and I have to leave for work now? yes of course I am but for the love of which ever god to believe in CHILL OUT.
You nubs really get on my ****, i've played lots of different online games they are all the same with DT's and those that say they don't have them ie SWG crash and nerf just as much as EvE.
Its time to stop complaining about what you pay peanuts to play and let it happen when it happens.
If your so sad to be sat in front of the screen waiting for the moment to log back in you really did to get a life, you REALLY do.
Here endeth my 2 penths worth, flam eall you want i'm a grown man and get far worse for my wife

already been said, probebly more then once, but getting a server back into shape to run 30.000+ people ALL AT ONCE, isnt as easy as it might seem. theres ALOT happening all day long.
ive in total played 2 months, not long but still, ive hardly seen long downtimes. im from europe so i do find the timing a bit.. sad, but MOST the time its just 1 hour, and thats not that bad, since its noon so i can ..grab some food, come back.. walk back to grab a drink, get back to my food, find that its cold, get new food, find that my ice in my cola melted, go back..grab new ice, put it in cola, find my food is cold again, get new food.. get back... eat food, drink cola, look at screen. go to the bathroom, brush my teeth, go back. login.. and play.. there we go
ive played my fair share of most any decent mmo, and NONE of them had a perfect downtime rule.. none of them had 0 issues on patch days, and the one game i wont mention, sure as HELL isnt perfect when it comes to staying online

Edited by: Vactet on 22/03/2007 14:13:13 Oye dont start with the nub thing, besides you used it wrong. Not like we can do anything of usefulness to ccp while the game starts up Nub=Non Useful Body. Yeh its a troll, but what else is there to do? And besides...you just called us nubs yet you were the one who set a skill to finish within 12hrs of DT, hypocritical much?

Once again the response to suit all occasions 'you noobs'. The sheer ignorant arrogance in that statement is ironic.
Lest we all forget, we may be 'paying peanuts' (ask a Uni student if thats true) but we ARE paying for a service. CCP is a 'for profit' organisation. Who cares if Eve had 10000 or 100000 players on line simultaneously, if it takes 4 days of screwing around to get it working and patches every other week to keep it running then its not worth it. Start a new server/stop accepting more subscriptions which are difficult to support. Keep the people who love this game and are loyal and who more importantly have invested significant time and money in it interested enough. Instead of overloading the server for a 'Guiness World Record' mentality.
Bottom line, we all love this game and want to play it instead of sitting in the forums flaming each other instead of organising a groundswell to have CCP change how they do things. If that means I have to pay 5 bucks a month more but get guaranteed playing time I would gladly pay it.
Thanks for playing tonight, Mum says i have to come inside now.... see ya in game....

Edited by: Darqion Zenix on 22/03/2007 14:18:46 he calls you lot nubs for whining, so him setting a skill within 12h of DT has little to do with the matter he talked about.
and a nub is a spinoff from the word noob, which is another spinoff from newbie, so dont get to smart about stuff like that.
btw ive seen games that only support 2K people a server being offline for DAYS, not just hours. and after patch time you mightaswell not even try to login, you`ll be sorely dissapointed.
this game might have more DT, but atleast for me it has one of the best performances, and least random servercrashes.

Did it ever occur to you that maybe they just put a facade around a cluster of servers, each of which can barely support 500 people? Did it every occur to you that when you jump from system to system or region to region that maybe all the "server" is doing is just "re-logging" you into a different server? Maybe you've never been to Jita yet and seen what 500-600 people in one system does to this "cutting edge" server design? Before you get so emotional about defending a server design that just gives the illusion of 30,000 people on "one server cluster" maybe you should stop to think how that design is acutally accomplished first. I'm not claiming I know CCP's exact architecure (and Kudos to them for being the first to take this type of approach), but I do know a fair amount about how this stuff does get architected and I also know that what you see on the outside is often quite different that what is really going on under the covers.

"Possible hardware problem with SOL 26"
That... sucks.
I assume thats one of the servers in their cluster?
If its a hardware problem, we can't really blame them... I've owned servers before (I host websites (free and non) in my free time) with much less usage and even then I knew how harrowing it was when, say, a PSU gave out on us :(
And to have a deadline like this? Damn, my heart goes out to CCP's techs, if you guys can fix this today, you rock so much.
