I've come up with a really fun, long-term project. I can't quite explain what it is at the moment, but does anyone have Rifter artwork, concept art, diagrams, etc?
Specifically, devs and such, can I borrow your drawings?

Nah. I had this idea to write the Rifter Flight manual and Repair Guide. There was all that totally nerd talk about it the other day and it got me thinking--- What if someone were to write a TOTALLY BS technical manual, just for the fun of it?
It's sort of a long term deal, but it will be fun. Who doesn't love the rifter? Anyone want to help? I'm totally for round table discussions on whether the modal inertia field dampener is tri-modal or dual...

Sounds cool, just remember to put duct tape in the repair section somewhere prominently :)

Yeah but this is a Minmatar ship we're talking about. :) Your alphabetic help index will probably end up looking like this:
D
Duct Tape; see: 1.2.2 Hull components 1.2.3 Armor plating 1.3.1 Airlock seals 1.7.7 The tractor beam 1.7.8 Cargo management 3.2 Onboard first-aid 3.2.1 Emergency rations 8.1 Recomended repair adhesives

Airlock seals, cargo management and onboard first aid have to be the best here ... maybe under armour plating we could put in "wreckage" as well?

I've completed the cover of the manual! I'll post soon. It has US ARMY FM feel to it.
I just had this idea that a sony-like user manual would be too Caldari...
Anyway, expect a gritty, overdriven, heavy ink black and white look to this one. Anyone want to help me write the copy? I need Rifter facts, backstory, and info... *COUGH* Concept art would be nice :) That way I wouldn't have to make or draw it all myself!

See this maintenance log. It's for a wolf, but I'm sure the same would apply to a rifter.

You referred to the "Republic Navy" which is actually the "Republic Fleet". Other than that, spiffy.

Great work on the cover! I'm an Army Vet, and it really captures the official US Army manual style very well.
I also happen to be a huge rifter fan. I fly one every chance I get.

hehe, i love the idea :D
the cover looks WAY to clean though, it's a minmatar ship after all. the vetical format is better suited for very organzized armys like caldari i think, make it the standarf format, add some duct tape to it (and maybe some quaffe stains and a cigarette burnhole) and it'll look fine.
i think it's hard to begin such a project with a minmatar ship, because here you have to make up almost everything by yourself. if you take a caldari ship for example, you can just take one of the billion star wars x-wing manuals and get some ideas there.
if you can get your hands on the manual of the german "Tiger" tank of world war 2 (also called "Tiger fibel") you might get some inspiration there, they had a great style of explaining. hard to describe, i'll look if i find a pdf somewhere, but they illustrated everything with very simple examples, so when they tried to explain to the new tanker why they should put their tank in a 45Š angle to the enemy they compared that to cutting a sausage (you have to see the pictures to understand what i mean), but anyways, the style was great. so if you could add examples like that (and made up short storys like when a verteran duct-taped a smartbomb to a cargo can so that he could blow up ore thieves) that would add a great deal of "realism" to the manual.
well, much text, not so much content, i'm drunk and i like the idea. in short: keep it coming & good luck with your project

I LOVE that Tiger manual. It reads more like one of those worst case scenario books than a technical document. "Driving the Tiger is just like driving a car". "Be gentle with the controls as you would your girlfriend"... and so on. I've got a copy on my shelf as a tribute to some of the most entertaining tech docs EVER (and probably one of the only ones). I can't read very much of it, but it ALWAYS makes a party piece when I have somoene to translate!

Oh, she's so making an appearance (or a variation thereof) "Be sure not to over-drive the yoke as the thrusters may misfire. Be gentle with the controls as you would the mistress of your house." [Insert pic of bathing chick]

ooooooh i love your idea m8, and i really would enjoy to help you out with Illustrations. But to keep it a bit more specific iŠd like to ask you what topics you gonna put in it, cuz there are so many things you could Illustrate that youŠll never be finished ^^ Something like the Index of Winterblink would really help the people out who decide to do wicked stuff for the manual.

I've been working on an overview and outline but it's coming pretty slow. If you can get your hands on the US Army manual for the OH-58 (TH-67?), or even AF F-16, that's the kind of thing I'll be using as a model. I'm just trying to work out scale right now---
I was so wrong about the size. It's a lot bigger than i thought it was
For instance: | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |Rifter |person
The scale is still off... I'm using the original art from the original site to get the sizes--- 15m high, 65m long. So far, i think my drawing may need to be "tweaked" for length...

This is a great idea!!! I love the Rifter (although I like the Slasher better).
I'd be glad to help with anything design or art related if you need it.
I think I can get you the FMs you need. Let me look.
