It has been a pleasure. 4/22/2004 - 4/18/2007. Probably a hundred noobs introduced to this game, tutored and assisted in my time. Not a bad achievement I'd say.
The final enjoyment for me in EVE is being removed. (the only remaining joy of pvp, privateers) Summoning the courage for me to shelf the game. who knows, maybe 2008 will bring faction warfare and something fun to do again and I might return.
Here's to all my initial friends in "C22" who got me into this game a a year or two late because I'd believed some idiot who said it sucked. If only I'd been here sooner i would have enjoyed it longer.
Here's to CoD back up in the north and the precipitation of that awesome war, my first taste of 0.0, Sturmgrenadier and what it meant then to fight for a belief, a home and not just isk, shame you guys are south on the other side of the fight now, goons and learning the power of a genuine fofofo. Here's to all the noobs I've taught, corps I've made or managed and by god all the veldspar.
I made a statement with the release of two accounts against how cheating and the fragility of accomplishment in 0.0 politics could be allowed to stay as it did. Now I'll make a statement against the removal of the freedom of this glorious sandbox. The decision to provide walls where once it was told there would remain none. If the future of pvp is to be free of personal responsibility, of the requisite of intelligence before you undock, then it can be free of me.
no you can't have my stuff.

You are aware that PvP in Empire can proceed as it has before? Really, its the number of targets at any one time that's changing.
You'd think they'd dropped a mechanics lock to keep PvP out of Empire the way they do with Capital ships the way some of you are going on.

Its about availability of targets. Even with 70+ wars, most empire systems had maybe 2 war targets on average with the exception of the trade hubs. With 3 wars it is going to be very hard to find targets in empire unless Privateers switches to solely declaring on 100% empire based corps/alliances which typically don't want to anything to do with a warp disruptor.
The other options for PVP have been found incredibly lacking by most of the people in Privateers. We've all done 0.0/sniper fest/pos spam wars... personally I can't stand it. Low sec pirating is nearly dead sine low sec is pretty much empty. What Privateers really was in my mind was a way to log on and find a fight with minimal hassle. With a drastic reduction in the number of wars that can reasonably be declared, that is being heavily nerfed.
It is really akin to the arguements about removing instas from the game... travel time is generally though to take to long. Likewise, finding a decent fight in EVE takes too long. Privateers was an attempt at a solution to that.

If you were after decent fights, why were you wardeccing carebear corps? You're in an Alliance, multiple corporations, why one monster group of sharks bottomfeeding on people with no interest in giving you a fight, and fight amongst yourselves?
Its all metagaming any way you slice it, but your arguement is failing to hold water when you want "decent" action, but look for it by hunting people incapable of giving it to you alongside people who can.

What's stopping you from fighting each other? no need to hunt for targets.
This is an excuse. If you want PvP make 2 corps and duke it out. Make 3 or 4 and you get even more pew-pew.
this talk about anti-pos wars... if you're looking for a fight and not teritory you'll never touch a POS.
Roving gangs are effective and common, fun, and effective in 0.0
You want a fight with no hassle, then fight each other... other corps do it when bored all the time.
Privateers took a good idea too far. When you all started dec'cing corps left and right for "contracts" at no costs but the war fee, what was once an annoyance (the cheap cost of war) was brought to the forefront to CCP's attention.
The war cost was a fix that was on the backburner until it became a huge problem... you all brought this about much sooner than if you had shown restraint.

I suggest you take a look at who Privateers has war decced. I can assure you that it is not just carebear corps. The vast majority of Privateers targets are primarily PVP alliances. Granted there are some smaller targets which are declared, but those are typically being paid for by an outside party (Privateers also functions as a Merc alliance in a way, they will declare war on anyone you wish if you pay the war dec fee for them).

Edited by: WredStorm on 18/04/2007 17:59:27 I'm sorry you're leaving, but I'm not sorry for the change that is causing you to leave. Any mechanism which allows bullies to negatively impact the enjoyment of thousands of other players must, IMO, be remedied. The upcoming change will fix that, so I'm all for it.
As for the person above saying that 10 wars will only cost 500M ISK per week, I suggest you re-read the dev blog. The cost would be 500M per war per week (assuming 10 war), which equates to 5B ISK per week. If they up it to 11 wars then the cost becomes 550M per war per week = 5.5B ISK/week.
If you were paying ~500M ISK per week before, under the new system you'd be able to sustain 3 wars at that same rate (with 3 wars it would cost you 150M ISK per war per week = 450M ISK/week).
Empire Wars are supposed to be a serious thing, where you have specific goals you want to achieve against your targets and where those goals are worth the cost of paying Concord to look the other way. Its already been demonstrated by Privateers that the current cost of 50M ISK per war per week was a drop in the bucket compared to what they could loot from their targets. It allowed them to take a "shotgun" approach to warfare, which is obviously not what the devs want nor does it reflect the approach any country in modern history has ever taken (i.e.: it isn't realistic by any stretch of the imagination).

That's one of the problems. a "merc corp" that will fight with the strength of an alliance against anyone (including 10-man corps) for a very small fee.
It's a giant I-win button for corps that would otherwise have to either pay a merc corp a sizable fee or actually do the fighting themselves.

And it was this same indiscriminate and abuse of war declarations that brought about the change to your play style. Over 100 wars in high security space? For what purpose? These weren't wars, these were shooting licenses you were buying.

Some of the posts in here just amaze me. It's obvious enough of you detest privateer alliance. Things are getting changed, don't you fret now. Eve will become just real life, void of personal responsibility. I see the approach of EVE liability lawyers soon on the horizon.
Yes we war dec'd tens of thousands of people. It amazes me that our 700 vs I think the estimate was 40,000 puts us as the bad guys. How often I sat in systems with a dozen enemies, all alone, and killed them 1 by 1 as they undocked.
It doesn't matter. I've spent 3 years convincing dozens and dozens of people to join EVE, helped them find their niche, been a part of things grand and small. In the end it's changed, it's becoming another animal for another type of customer. This has happened before and it will happen again in this game and many others.
Shame I get no respect at all for what I've done. Bring a hundred people to a game to enrich it and support it. And be condemned for blowing up pixels that someone else was too lazy and careless to protect.
Well at least I know I follow and not precede much of the community I knew in leaving. This is my opinion not that of privateer corp, alliance, its member corps, affiliates, minions, pet animals, ex girlfriends, former roommates, 3rd grade gym teachers, late relatives, ontime relatives, |

an alliance declaring war on a 10 man noob corp just for a couple more targets and no reason is low, but not bad in eve. doing it several times begins to make you look bad.
Camping 4-4 and other hubs, only to pop people while in blackscreen is low.
camping mission hubs, known deadspace gates, sitting on gates for hours waiting to pounce on anything that comes through (see the ibis kill by another PVTR in this very thread) is low.
And again, none of these are uncommon in eve. The problem is the scale in which it was done.
The problem was that war costs were next to nothing. You knew this, as did the founders of PVTR, I remember when it was founded that it was one of the reasons it was done.
War costs were bound to change eventually, the issue was brought up even before privateers was created.
The thing is that the Privateers made the flaw very apparent and to the forefront. It was to the point that PVTR was war-dec'ing almost on a whim.
I liked the idea when it was first presented. Then I began to see the camping, the small corp decs that other merc corps would usually ignore, but when you all dec'd Eve Uni it became apparent that you weren't looking for PvP but just a way to rack up kills.
0.0 is the 'endgame' and where you can go to ALWAYS get a fight.
you can fight each other to your heart's content.
you can also fight the same 70+ corps/alliance and even cnotinue the same practice.
The difference is that there's a stacking penalty. Just as with WCS and every other aspect of the game that was abused and taken to extremes.

Anyways i'm hearing all about that change but where can the exact details be found? i looked at the latest patchnots and several blogs but can't find any info on it? can anyone post a link on where a dev (or any ccp member) posted these changes??
Or was it just snuck in with the lates server fix downtime?

Here is from the Dev Blog:
Quote:
Previously a war issued by an alliance would cost 50M + 50M/week. If the alliance or corporation being warred against was already the victim of another war that fee would increase by 50M for each war declared against the victim.
Money-grubbing CONCORD has decided that the number of wars declared by the aggressor will now also count to increase the war prices and the larger of the two is used to determine the war instigation and upkeep fees.
Example: Alliance P has ten wars in progress. They will have to pay 500M/war/week to keep the war machine running. If they now declare war on the eleventh corporation or alliance that war will cost 550M to start and the upkeep cost will be 550M/war/week for all the wars until any of the wars is canceled.
This is an important matter of game-balance and we're happy we're finally getting it in.
To the OP: I'm sorry to hear you go. But you KNEW this would happen, or something like it, at some point.
Had the Privateers stuck with their initial concept of attacking the "big" 0.0 Alliances, most likely nothing would have happened. But then they started taking on any contract, for any reason.
And even bragged about 149 wars happening at one time (there are that many "big" alliances?). Then proclaimed that there were going to do more of those "let's shoot everything, wardec everyone" parties.
Hardly unexpected to be nerfed, hardly fitting with the entire philosophy of war. Even EvE's concept of PvP doesn't agree with that philosophy from how I read the Devs' comments. EvE is not a FPS, you have counter-strike for that.
So I will miss your posts, but rejoice in the concept that EvE is going the right direction. <-----------> Keiron: http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=427556&page=2

I understand alot of your comments and posts. Though I think that alot of them are full of assumptions. The jita, fish in a barrel, the 10 man noob corps. I believe more that over half our war decs are large alliances with thousands of members. I know it's equivalent to like 40,000 people.
It's not a walk in the park, and it's not our fault that the vast majority of our targets don't fight back and just roll over and die in expensive things. We, believe it or not, have no additional skills to access or ships to fly that are denied the rest of the games players, let alone our targets.
I'm not whining either. If you think I whined you are mistaken. Is it whining to complain that BoB cheated, knowingly and comment the absense of repercution that had for them or their leadership? Is it a whine to unsubscribe as a statement that you no longer wish to pay for a service because of where it is going?
No a whine is coming on the forums with unproductive commentary. I don't want the game changed just because. But I did want to reminisce, say adios, and state my reasons. Because that is how the community knows how it's diverse components react to what's going on, when people post about it.
So this is just me saying it's a shame, been here along time, contributed alot, wish you all the best. And maybe if making pvp fun is achieved again I'll be back. But it isn't. period. And privateers was the only opportunity for me to get my dozens of small scale engagements and 1v1's. It was the only remaining fun. Would have been more fun if all our targets fought back too.
To those with the don't let the door hit you on the way out comments. I'm glad my thread gave you an opportunity to flex your forum e-peen prowess with unnecessary commentary. Shame I am so apathetic to your words I would need a frontal lobotomy to care a sliver more.
Got my fingers crossed for factional warfare. It's in my mind the last best hope for pvp in this game. This is my opinion not that of privateer corp, alliance, its member corps, affiliates, minions, pet animals, ex girlfriends, former roommates, 3rd grade gym teachers, late relatives, ontime relatives, |

Isn't that the point of the nerf? To allow you to keep up a good lot of war decs, while not just having and all you can eat turkey shoot?
Has anyone actually worked out how many wars that PA can continue to fight? Has anyone really worked out that it will have that much of a detrimental effect?
Even if you could keep up a fifth of your current alliance wars against the biggest juciest alliances, then you'll still have tons of targets and be true the Privateers original ethos.
Everyone who is really crying about this nerf just wants a fish an a barrel grief fest. Full stop.

Under the prior system, new players in Eve were obliged to forego any effort to form a player corp. unless they were willing to accept a target being painted upon their backside. That is not a viable method to introduce new players to game.
It was reminiscent of vacationing in the states in Miami where a rental car license plate and roadmap in your hands labels you a ônoobö. You must explore cautiously with map kept down to avoid being shot at a traffic light. When someone lies bleeding on the curb with strangers rifling through your luggage in broad daylight, it makes one regret going at all..
That was Eve prior to this change and tourism suffers in such conditions.
The makers of Eve must be pragmatic in creating an environment where players of all experience levels may coexist. War can still be waged in Empire, but not by indiscriminately slaughtering the masses. There are people who wish nothing more than to start fresh in a new game with friends in a noob corp, yet they could not. NPC corps are huge and fail at providing the conditions to create a small community of friends.
It would behoove CCP to recognize that the current state of MMOs is such that countless would be gamers are searching for a new game. With the fading of EQ and the demise of itÆs would be successor, Vanguard, it was time for a change. Factor in the exodus of many disgruntled gamers hemorrhaging from the current 500 pound gorilla of MMOs, and CCP has an excellent opportunity for Eve.
CCP was wise to improve the initial environment of Eve to accommodate new people.

As a noob fresh to this game I must say I support the change for this very reason. After being podded and camped on my original character by a couple of Privateers, I decided to roll another character and decline any corp invitations, just to be able to play in a somewhat safe environment while I develop my skills enough to be able to stand a chance in these situations.
For the most part I feel like I'm now playing a single player game and had been considering leaving the game just one month after signing up. This can't be good for CCP.
What I've never understood is, why this even started. Isn't there PvP readily available in lower sec space? Isn't the competition there a little more challenging and exciting?
And if challenging the larger alliances is really the goal here, how have these new rules changed anything? This is simply removing the ability to cherry pick rather than bellying up to the bar and walking the talk.

Most of low sec is completely barren. 0.0 is almost worse except you get systems where entire alliances like to hang out... so it goes empty-empty-empty-empty-blob-empty-empty-empty etc.

Declaring war on 40 thousand people in EVE is why it's called fish in a barrel, you dont really have to research your enemy, you dont even have a specific enemy, you just wander around trying to shoot fish in a barrel.
woohooo there is a war target in local!¿It's a lottery with pretty high chances of scoring the jackpot (jackpot being targets).
It's lazy pvp/ganking, and yes I understand that it was most probably fun but it was lazy... Free for All is not something that should go on in empire, free for alls can be fun, but they dont fit in empire.
Declare on a corp, find out where they work, use location agents, track your targets and destroy their ships. Flying random paths through space looking for targets is lazy and saying that your dont like the rest of pvp in eve only means you really dont want to work for your pvp experience..
I respect that in a sense since it is pretty hard to get empire fun. I dont like 0.0 blobs, Titan DD or most of the things that go on in 0.0 pvp warfare today. But I dont like walking through empire getting free kills because I have 40k people on my warlist.
Again, it's lazy, your not quiting eve because PRIV was nerfed, your quitting eve because your lazy and you dont want to work for your pvp experience.
Have fun..

I hate to see anyone quit playing EVE.
However, I tend to agree with the decision the Devs made in this case. While I enjoyed running into empire and losing my Thorax the one time I was able to engage the Privateers during our shortlived war, I think that the war system needed modification. Nowadays 50 mil is chump change for any alliance, even empire based ones, and to me, that just doesn't sit right anyway. However, even with the new changes, dec'ing on a few of the major alliances is still cost effective, and with the sizes of those alliances, there will still be much flashing red in empire.
Good luck in whatever game you chose to go with, but I hope you'll come back and see that things really aren't as bad as some say. ===== Space-Ninjas are mammals too. |

I do like how privateers whine that they were wardecing the largest corps and should get props for it...
Funny how 90% of those corps are 0.0 based and only the occasional hauler or lone pilot wanders around empire...
The vast majority of their supposed targets hang out in 0.0 where privateers fear to tread...
Guess that left only the thousands of easy empire dweller targets as they undock.

The vast majority of the dying people are in pvp alliances. You would have a point of the privateers wardeced empire industrial corps exclusively, but they dont.
And since when is pvp in eve consentual? What is ccp gonna nerf pirating next because their targets "wished no part of your preferred style of game play"?

Oh ffs, plently of people people whine about drones being broken, new regions being broken, group missions being broken, <insert your favorite overpowered mod combo of the month> being broken. You don't see that being fixed why?
Being able to wardec all of highsec was a *SERIOUS GAME BREAKING BUG* not a feature. It got fixed sooner than other bugs because it was clearly evident that it was detrimental to the continued growth of EvE. Forcing new players to stay in noobcorps because they (wrongly) feel they have no chance against people with 20-40x their SP and 100-1000x their ISK resources was not good, mmmkay?
Fighting privateers was not done because there was no way to win. Privateers were in it for the ganks, everyone else was there for something else. Even if you gank a privateer a few times he'll just come back for more. You could fight and play undock games all week long and gain nothing.
Anyway, you still have PLENTY of targets. As others have said, research your war targets, stalk em, gank em. Go to lowsec and find plenty of targets. Hell, I'm camped in a station by 13 people in a .2 this very second. Is that enough targets for you?
Feel free to contract your stuff to me, I'll make good use of it.

Illyria is right.
The thing is, there is really no such thing as nonconsensual PvP in a computer game. You cannot make people fight; if they don't want to, they will go to NPC corps, stay docked, log off, or cancel their accounts.
So in Eve we have the consensual PvP zone (0.0), the PvP-with-traveller/defender-advantage zone (lowsec), and the zero risk zone (highsec), and people can choose where they want to be. Turning highsec into a PvP zone will just empty it. --------- Currently offering high-sec POS standings service for 0.5 systems within the Gallente Federation. Evemail me for details. |

Plus, don't forget, the OP is only quitting the game because it will cost more pixels for Privateers to continue blowing up pixels as easily as they're used to. Some pixels are worth more than others, you see.

I'm nto done reading all of this topic, bout half way done... Anyways, felt I'd say this because it's on my mind...
I like how you mention the bit where you'd usually only find 1-2 targets usually. The reason I can't help but think about this is...
How long has IAC been at war with privateers? I think start of jan, that's a nice 3.5 or so months of constant empire war. Now think about it, it was nice for you at first. However, you let the wars go on too long for durations, you didn't cycle through them. Basically over time people in all the alliances that DO stay in their alliance will go "**** empire" and thus resulting in said clustering in 0.0.
You pretty much smothered everyone into either running around in empire to get shot or staying in their area of 0.0/space... Or not playing/undocking period.

*goes to resume reading topic*

There is a reason in .5 concord respond slower than in 1.0. You can still suicide gank people even in 1.0, and then there is the wardec system.

So in Eve we have the consensual PvP zone (0.0), the PvP-with-traveller/defender-advantage zone (lowsec), and the zero risk zone (highsec), and people can choose where they want to be. Turning highsec into a PvP zone will just empty it.

Privateers' wardecs are sponsored. They go on for as long as the sponsor pays it.
You've just shown everybody you don't have a clue about what you're talking about. Thank you. Move along...

Yea, it was all about those cheap ganks where I fought outnumbered and outgunned and won. It was about all those cheap ganks in 0.0 too where the same thing happened.
I'm upset because its one more artificial limitation CCP is implementing. People that do not want to PvP can avoid all but suicide gankers by joining the noob NPC corps. Its simple, by joining a player corp or alliance you accept PvP into your life.
Privateers have done something interesting and special, something none of these little no name 0.0 alliances have achieved. Fear and loathing on an epic scale. I'll see 10 people that are war targets hiding in a station because there are 2 of us local. They could organize and kill us or drive us off, but they are to afraid. There are Privateers who camp Jita and other undock points, the majority don't. We have interceptors roaming the space lanes, and when they spot something its announced and people come if they are close enough.
Stop blaming us because you are too weak, or too stupid to fight back or avoid getting killed. I'm disappointed in that MDYN member, I thought they knew what the game was about. Some of them do I guess.
In the end its about the impact you leave behind when you start something, for good or bad. This was the most fun I've had in EvE in years, too bad it has to change. Watch out for the newer, meaner, sleaker and griefier Privateers We'll get it figured out and get back to making those worthless empire hugging alliance members cry. You know, they ones that fill out the numbers of any 0.0 alliance on the alliance rankings, but are completely worthless people for all intents and purposes.

Yes, there is 2 of you in local and 10 war targets. So what? It's quite likely in empire that these 10 war targets are from 10 different corps and 10 different alliances. These corps and alliances may well be at war with each other as well.
They don't automatically become green to each other just because there is a common enemy suddenly appearing in local. The amount of effort and time it would take for one of your war targets to identify other potential allies in the system so they can gang up and fight you is not worth it.
Personally, if there was no corp/alliance members in local when more than a couple of Privateers showed up I used to just leave. Easy enough to do in empire.
Your argument is a complete fallacy.
I would also like to point out that quite a few of our corp members have a lot of fun in roaming gangs in empire until all the Privateers in the area run and hide. The killboard statistics are quite interesting.

I"m sorry that you feel you need to quit. The change though has been long overdue. The costs have long been far to low.
I think CCP was trying a compromise here. They could have addressed the situation a couple of ways. They could increase the costs or they could have just limited the number of wars an alliance was allowed (as corporations are limited). The fact is both choices would have been met with some folks leaving.
I made some suggestions in COAD as to how Privateers could reorganize and maintain a level of play somewhat next to the level you are accustomed.
5 alliances could pay for 3 wars each for 2.25 billion
1 alliance could pay for 7 wars for 2.45 billion per week. To run 15 wars would cost 11.25 billion isk per week (the same as splitting into 5 alliances and declaring 3 each)
To maintain 85 wars would cost 361.250 billion per week.
What you'd have to do is choose wars where you felt you would see enough targets. If your warring RED for instance and never see a RED ship, then your wasting money. (Your probably wasting money if you aren't seeing and killing a dozen or more of their ships a week in the new system)

I am sorry to see that you are leaving Eve. However, not only do I feel that the latest change (or nerf as you may call it), is not enough, it does not even address the main problem behind the concept of the PA.
I believe that the war dec system was too cheap, but the ability of players to dip in and out of PA was pathetic. At least with a war dec you can see who your enemies are. The way things are, anyone can pop in for a bit of PvP, and back out for a bit of mining or missioning, then pop back in for more PvP, whenever they feel like it. All be it subject to a small time interval between these events.
This is what I would like to see;
Any corporation leaving an alliance at war, should remain at war with that said alliances enemies for one month. If the war ends prior to that month end then obviously that war would be negated with that leaving corporation.
Any player leaving a corporation which is at war needs to give one month's notice through an Eve controlled system, similar to turning in roles and privileges. If all of the corporation's wars end within that month then that player can leave immediately.
My reasoning behind the above is this. Any player(s) that wish to be involved with a war should treat it as such. A WAR is not a method of pew pew when they feel like it. There is a game designed for that, it is called World of Warcraft. Join on a PvE server, and when you feel like it, pop in to a battleground for some PvP. I believe that Eve is a far more intense, edge of seat, and thought provoking game than WoW for example. Let us get rid of ridiculing the act of war in the way it has been, in empire especially. War should start, have a pre-determined aim and objective, and an end scenario. War should not be entering a carnival tent (read join alliance), shooting at targets (read flashing reddies), and once you are bored, leaving the tent (read leave alliance).
Flame on boys and girls
This is my own opinion and not .... etc etc I would sell my soul, my body, and my entire family for a Navy Raven. (Just kidding .... my soul is not for sale)

Im sorry but I have to void your claims that 0.0 is all pos warfare or titans or any other balogna that you have claimed in your various threads..
I have been living in 0.0 for quite a long time now. I have done 1 POS takedown, which was purely OPTIONAL for our corp, you didn't have to go.
And I have yet to see a blob, either. a Gang of 10-15 people is not a blob, its a roaming gang. The trick to this? Get your own gang and have EVEN FIGHTS, stop trying to get easy ganks.
There is nothing more fun than a 10-15 on 10-15 even fleet battle. If your computer cant handle that and lags, well that means you need a new computer.. (mine is currently 6ish years old and plays the game just fine and the only time I have ever lagged is in jita where you claim you get "lag free bliss")
you don't HAVE to fight 100 person gangs, hell you don't ever have to see one in your entire life. If you avoid certain places you are fine, but I guess that takes effort and that isn't something you in privateers want eh?
You just want to kill people who undock 1 by 1. And don't claim that they should group up and kill you, because gasp, they might not be friends? they might be enemies? gasp politics exist in this game besides you guys?!!?!?!
You claim it was 600 vs 40,000... yet be realistic, how many of those 40,000 people WANT to pvp... how many are FIT OR SKILLED for pvp. How many are Actually alligned together?
Id gather at most you have ever had was 600vs1200-2000 at most. And that is assuming all of those members are in empire, are pvp fit, are together.
Not everyone wants PVP, you forced it on them and then try to claim its their fault for dieing and not putting up a fight.
I would honestly like you to go get into a navy raven in a pure mission/ratting fit, then go fight people who are fit specifically to gank your setup. You would die without a fight as well, seeing as how it is NO CHALLENGE.
Move out to Pureblind or Syndicate (spelling on that sorry), its basically roaming gangs galore out in those areas and you might actually get gasp.. pvp fights against pvp players!

How often does your gang of 10-15 run into that other gang of 10-15 vs. how often does that gang of 10-15 find 1 raven ratting in a belt and have a 10-15 v 1 fight? Or run into 1 person moving a ship somewhere? 10-15 v 1 is a blob in most peoples eyes.
Heres a little story about my last 0.0 small gang adventure. About 6 of us (a few BS and CS and a Cov. Ops) decide to go looking for some fun. After about 10 empty systems we run into a Domi that jumped through the wrong gate at the wrong time, resulting in a very dull very quick fight. About 7 systems later we find 15 or so people in a dead end system, all from the same corp... thinking we can get a decent fight out of these people we warp to the only station in system and hope for the best. There we find 1 BS which instantly docks and about 3 minutes later are greeted with 3 Thanatos. So it now stands at 3 Thanatos vs 5 BS/CS and who knows what else they have docked. Yeah!
Needless to say we just turned around and went home. After countless small gang trips that went down a lot like that, ganking random folks who are harmlessly ratting, or being met with completely over the top responses to are arrival I decided that 0.0 just isn't what it used to be and left for empire to give Privateers a shot.
While I complete agree that the 10v10 fights are might fun, they are rare enough that they may as well be non-existent.

Before I make my main statement, let me make one thing clear. I like fighting Privateer and have enjoyed our fights against them.
Now to the point.
You lose at EVE.
How unfortunate that you allow this minor hitch in your game plan totally cut your.... well, totally whoop your butt.
Its lame, and very nearly the equivalent of throwing a E-temper tantrum. This change diminishes EVE in no way what-so-ever... but it does make Privateers have to be more clever and more selective. So now we see those that can't hack it leaving... pity really. As much as you hate to admit it, a first person shooter probably is more your speed.
Have fun out there, take a break, and if they grow back... come play again.

You know honest to goodness I have read ALOT and I do mean ALOT of the forums while I work 10 hours a day when I have breaks.
To the op what I dont think your understanding is that the Privateers were a direct threat on the new people and therefor income that was coming into the game. Blowing up small people with no skills is nothing better then being a bully which is fine for somebody who is a total jerk and thinks only of themselves.
Also you claim to have brought 100's into the game but I wonder how many people you caused to quit the game just you and your alliance. The arrogant say well eve was just not for them.
The intelligent say hey give a guy a fighting chance to at least learn some mistakes from people teaching before running them through the tree chipper of your own rage or experiences or need to some how gain epeen or revenge for what was done to you.
As far as the pixels thing is concerned let me see if I can educated some people about this pixels thing. (1) Although the representation of the components of this world may be in pixels the effort to affect and effect that balance of what those pixels is..is far more.
(2) Pixels in eve represent MASSIVE amounts of time thinking and effort in order to gain and remove old and new pixels as your character grows in both skills and you personally in what is around you. Only the shallow or stupid sum up years of mining ratting and pvping as something as shallow as a pixel.
(3) If pixels are just pixels what do MILLIONS of people enjoy massive MMO's. Some make friends for life and some even get married because of these pixels. These things that we invest so much of our times and life into are far more important and have a HUGE emotional attachment to them. The fact that so many spend so much time trying to change pixles and work with them is astounding in its dedication and addiction factor.
(4) IF in the years of playing you grew numb to what other people were doing with their pixels and cared only for your own then that was your fault. By diminishing thier effort and hard work you basically became something that was worth nothing to anybody else but yourself. Perhaps it is time for you to consider what kind of input people make into thier game as much as you like to put into yours.
(5) Privateers got a little to big for their epeen and it controlled them over common sense. Believe it or not mutual wars and fighting is fine. Un mutual raping and destroying will bring even your friend to the defence of the weak and the innocent.
Good to see you go to be honest because its now all about you and nothing about anybody else. Also nothing changed but the price structure of the war not the ability to shoot people which you held in such high esteem.
Good bye go get a grip on reality and realize that you probably in your and privateers selfish actions probably made more people leave eve then stay

Edited by: Stakhanov on 21/04/2007 08:15:56 While I usually despise whining , I totally understand the privateer's resentment. It doesn't just affect costly phoon owners or stabs amateurs - CCP nerfed an entire class of pirates. A lifestyle has been made nigh impossible. Some say they didn't use the wardec system as intended - but what is , in Eve ? Jetcans ? Bumping ? Aggressing logging titans ?
This divine intervention disrupts the ecosystem for the sake of the unfit. Privateers are a natural consequence of highsec overcrowding , the concept wouldn't have worked if it weren't for the sheer number of highsec dwellers bent on securing their profits.
Why are they blamed for "griefing noobs" ? They teach the valuable lesson that every choice has a consequence. They are no different from lowsec pirates. Let's pick 2 noobs :
Noob1 : How can I be successful in Eve ? Someone : Join a big alliance. *Noob1 joins xXxAlliancexXx and gets ganked by privateers*
Noob2 : How can I make more money ratting / mining ? Someone : Try lowsec. *Noob2 enters lowsec and gets ganked by local pirates*
The point of Eve is that you have to think and study the situation before making a decision. If you don't , you have to pay for this.

You're right, Eve is not the game it was two years ago, or three years ago.
Eve was not designed to appeal to the mass market. I've always thought that was its biggest appeal to me. You have to have the smarts to run the market, to plan, and to be flexible enough to scrap those plans when the next patch hits.
This is Eve. The devs are ALWAYS tinkering. They nerf, they optimize, they look at what the most successful (or in the eyes of other players, unbalancing) people or organizations do, and put a cap on it.
Remember mining division agents? Remember gates without sentry guns? Remember when entire classes of ore were removed from highsec space, and then lowsec space? When Willpower was replaced as the Gunnery secondary attribute? When mines were removed from the game? (and I LOVED laying mines around afk mining indies!) When MWDs could no longer stack? When people started to be able to probe out safespots and easily raid the shipyards waaaay out there, that double-MWD'ng ships had spent days traveling to set up?
Yeah, CCP nerfed you, too. And it is just one in a long line of nerfs, changes and rebalancing that has taken place over the years that has diminished the fun and destroyed the corporate plans of heretofore successful organizations.
I am always sad to see an old vet head out to pasture. I know there's a damned good chance you'll be back.
I agree with you that the game you enjoyed two years ago is gone, and probably won't be back. At this point I'm wondering if they will actually do factional warfare. Frankly, I don't care for what 0.0 is, either, I can only put in part time hours and I've found that serious 0.0 play requires hours and dedication that I just can't give. I understand the reason for Privateers existance, and I actually applaud them, because I think this change will drive a lot of older players out of the game. There are others, such as DNA and BE and others who continue to carry on the mantle of the old school pvper, and actually I think the Empire rp-based corps get a fair amount of fun pew pew.
But yeah, this was one more door slammed shut on institutions created to sew mayham and chaos. It's called progress, you can't run game with 32K concurrent users like you can a game with 4K concurrent users.
And I don't mean it's an improvement, either. Merely transitioning from one state to another. Whether it is good or bad is in the eye of the beholder. But Eve is not the game it once was. It is defined by the community, and the community is definitely not the same.

After reading all this I have determined that all those PA guys have been drinking WAY to much of the PA kool-aide on this issue.
The above quote is the issue.
I have played in every aspect of the game. My main has done everything from the noob stuff mining in empire up to leading one of the top 10 alliances in the game and I have found the above quote says it all.
Most people in the game don't have the time or dedication to the fun stuff. They want it brought to them(one of the reasons I am not leading an alliance atm) and anytime something becomes more difficult or something reduces their ability for lazy play they scream. I am part of a small PVP corp and we haven't had any trouble finding fun (ie competitive) PVP where ever we look.
Go north, south, east is bit to easy, west and if you know what your doing have someone willing to do some planning and route scouting you can find a good fight 80-90% of the time.
Ohh... and the 'we wardec'ed all the the major alliance' BS is a joke. NO ONE WORTH HIS SALT IN A 0.0 ALLIANCE GOES TO EMPIRE WITH A MAIN (Unless the are bored and are looking to chase some PA into a station) I can't remember how many times I heard.. If your bored, go hunt some privateers. (key word is if your bored since you can't get a fight from most of them but at least it's something to do)
P.S. I know Roue. He is a good guy and in my experience has always fought honorably. BUT... C'MON man. Can you really say the rest of the privies do? PA was a good idea and started out well. But you allowed the lesser scum succors to abuse the idea and grief defenseless noobs. If your senior staff would have had a better handle on things this wouldn't have happened.
Laziness all around and it a shame on all counts

Well, good riddance to bad rubbish and all that, but Privateers only exploited a single known weakness to the game. And they got pretty solidly slapped around for it.
But then again, they did declare on all the megacorps/alliances in Eve... good, grand. Those megacorps were all almost exclusively PvP, though they stayed in 0.0 or otherwise tried to avoid a lot of encounters with Privateers.
Why?
Because declaring on PvP-corp A has little impact on their overall operations in 0.0 or income. It's when they declare on PvP-corp A's 'non alliance' slave corp A1 that gave them any sort of hiccup.
Another glaring flaw to the entire game are 'alts' and 'alt corps' that quietly do their industrial thing in empire unmolested by most wars because the people that want to attack A don't know which 'alt corp' is supporting A (or macro mining group for that matter. Or macro ratting group in A's soverign territory doing their thing 100% unmolested).
So, yeah, Privateers exploited a flaw and got slapped. Now quit whining when they declared on your alt-industrial '10 man corp of hauler nuubs'. Because there are no 10 man corps of nuubs, only nuub alts. -
Life is pain...anyone who says differently is selling something. |

I just don't understand how some people do not agree with this point of view. Everyone saying "it's just pixels", well consider your bank account is "just pixels".
It only really exists inside a computer. You don't walk down to Barclays Bank and they say "Come on in Mr. Smith. We'll take you to the room that has all your money invested in a big pile."
So, to the "just pixels" brigade, you'd be happy for someone to delete your bank account, as it's just 1's and 0's eh?

As a member of a "major" alliance, I never cared about being war decced by PA. The only time I spent in empire was to jump clone in, hop a couple systems in a shuttle, grab a skill or two and jump clone out.
PA was all about war deccing noob corps and empire based industrial corps. Tough targets. Hoo ha. It doesn't pain me at all that they can only war dec 10% of the corps/people that they used to be able to for the same amount of isk. Empire is meant to be safe space for noob corps/chars, relatively safe space for empire based corps/chars and PA is still free to war dec anyone they want, just not on the same scale.
I participated in many empire wars before my null sec days, but it was always about engaging specific corps, not everyone.
