Not necessarily. There wasn't anything I wanted more than a clean even fight but events usually followed this path: Lone travelers, or huge alliance gank squads.

It is pretty cool to see a group of players being the reason that a devolpement team felt their actions were enough to nerf their own game; especially when it isnt through whining on the forums.
Its your world I just live in it.
I never had the pleasure of dealing with the privateers, of course I dont think I would ever have to since my main doesnt run missions.

I have been popped by Privateers a couple of times, and in all those times, it was never done without taste, unlike the coalition joke of "coathangers" at JV1V, seems like they dont like being ganked in high sec when they dont have blobs to defend them, privateers turned empire from an old lady's tea room complete with cosseted covers, to a starbucks with mines on the floor.
I may not personally like them, but for them to turn around to the CCP corps, and war dec them, shows that they arent the mindless gankers people seemed to have witnessed in a few.
Privateers were war decced with my alliance, so i say good on them, finding humour in a nerf that threatens their way of life is one of the most respectable things they have ever done, they liven empire up, all of these people who sit in empire saying " ive never left empire, i dont want to, i'm fine here."
The mountain came to Mohammad, the mountain was called Privateers.

WhenI was in a 0.0 corp and alliance the Privs decced us. Killed me a couple of times, not for want of my trying to kill one or two of them whenever I go the chance. And I'm just a lowly miner and support type...
They were a royal pain in the nuts and I enjoyed having 'em around. Made trips to Empire far more exciting.
Props for deccing the Powers that be, guys - I never whined about you once. If the Powers *do* bring in the Jove stuff, lemme know - I'll put a Drake together in a hurry and come join the PA and fight beside ya with pride!

1) Yes. Definatly. 2) with even half of our number of members/corps we will still be issuing 6+ wars. With a full compliment we would be issuing 9+

Edited by: Transit Man on 24/04/2007 14:03:17 Speaking as a total n00b, being introduced to PvP was an eye opening experience, even though the corp I'm in is pretty new too, there are some old chars with plenty of experience. PvP is part of the game, and I, for one, am not adverse to venturing into lowsec, and it was quite fun to have to experience hi-sec war relatively early on in my EVE gameplay.
Despite the *****ing and moaning in corp, secretly we all enjoyed the camaraderie of working together as a single group and having a goal (don't get pwned and keel the enemy!!!) and without the PA, many small corps like ours would not have had that opportunity, especially as most small corps will eventually move out to 0.0 and then the steep learning curve of battle with PA will show more fruit.
I enjoyed our 2 weeks of wardec, and this current one to follow, and yes, have had several gf, win or lose, it made no difference.
Without the wars, I don't think I would appreciate the depth or complexity of EVE as much as I do, and it has improved my lowsec activity no end, to the point where I will comfortably enter lowsec with caution, trepidation and anticipation of conflict foremost in my mind.
As others have said, evolution of the game and players will always make EVE an enjoyable experience, but you have to take the highs with the lows, and, if you can't, then stay in a n00b corp and never progress out of your mindset.
The PA have pushed the boundaries and the boundaries are being reset; but no one said you can't push those either. Those limitations only drive creativity and sooner or later, we'll have another mass influence like PA Wars.
As another corp member said, "As long as I enjoy it, I'll keep playing EVE", and, that, fellow players, is the only philosophy we need to stick to.

This has been a fascinating thread to read and I donÆt intend to weigh in on either side, but hereÆs a perspective that I donÆt believe has been covered so far so I though IÆd share it.
Like it or not the activity that the Privateers has engaged in has arguably jeopardized some of CCPs real world review stream by intimidating new players to a point where they leave the game or never convert their 14-day trail accounts. Some may read the forums and never even try the game based on this issue alone. I have enough experience with real business to know that this un-quantified volume of un-realized subscription revenue will always be viewed by sales as leaving money on the table.
I imagine a boardroom conversation that went something like this:
VP Sales (intentially overstating the problem): ôWhat are going to do to mitigate the gaming community perception that EVE has very poor newbie protection and a virtually non-existent PvE playing environment do to the actions of a particular group of players? ItÆs having a detrimental effect on our new subscription sales.ö
Lead Designer: ôWell, we could deploy a patch to address this issue, but I assure you that it will not go over well with many seasoned players and weÆll probably loose some.ö
CEO: ôIf we implement the patch, will the projected revenue of the new subscriptions out weigh that of those we risk loosing?ö
VP Sales: ôAbsolutely!ö
CEO: ôSounds like a no brainier, make it happen.ö
Lead Designer: ôBut what about the frustration weÆll cause with the detrimentally effected players?ö
CEO: ôWe have a forum for them to vent their frustrations donÆt we?ö
Lead Designer: ôYes.ö
CEO: ôGood, problem solved, whatÆs next on the agenda?ö
Lead Designer: (head sinks in disappointment)
Money folks, it all boils down to money.

An interesting opinion. As ive said before - I dont even think CCP will be able to pur their finger on our exact effect on accounts.
The 14 day trial accounts would probably still be in their npc corp. We cannot dec them. Anyone we dec has 24 hours to click the npccorp button and we cant touch them. They choose not to - and are therefore subject to being shot at. Despite our rep - we try to dec the biggest alliances - not some poxy 3 man corp. It makes sense in terms of targets per isk ratio. Sometimes we are paid to dec a smaller corp - but its always because of some vendetta they have running - that smack talk/ore thiefing/loot snatching in some far of system you thought you got away with.
I know many people have mailed me and said they are staying in an what for many is an essentialy boring game(lets run the same mission 500 times so we get the LP to trade in for a faction ship that will enable us to run the next 500 slighty quicker \o/). Thev have said they are staying in the game because of the PvP.
I also know many people have bought second accoutns to train up transport ship/freighter alts. Sure you can use an alt - but then you stop your main training for 6 months.
Only a couple of post above yours is someon from a small corp who was decced saying he has enjoyed the dec and it has enlivened the game for him (thanks for e the post btw). Him and people like him are more likely to stay in the game after experincing the fun of hunting for us in a gang of his mate.
The 'bloody privateers - we want revenge lets hunt em' feeling introduces an excitement, a real goal, a drama you just dont get whilst PvE'ing.
"Oh no - That Serpentis Cruiser just killed billy bob in an asteroid belt. Tommorow we are forming a big gang and we are gonna pwn those npcs"
Is not something you will ever hear. (Well if someone has actaully said it in your corp i advise to to run away fast)
Dont get me wrong - we are in the Privateers for ourselves to have fun first, to provide a service to eve second. Worrying about CCP's revenue stream was a far distant 50th.

I concur completely, but it has been my experience that if someone makes a good argument to implement a change in support of additional revenue generation, it will receive a lot of attention and explored. And (regrettably) if sold well enough will be implemented without requiring proof of success beforehand.

Well that just blows. If my opinion counts for anything to anybody (I think it doesnt but meh)...
This is one of the worst nerfs CCP has ever done, since it destroys a way of life and playstile for an entire alliance.
The way I see it, the guys that whine the most are the actual hauler ganks and black-screen ganks in Jita - And that leads to people thinking that's how all the privateers actually operate. So CCP has the mentality of "ugh my hand hurts. Ah! I'll cut it off and it'll go away" way of fixing things.
The real problem was station huggers (which is lame beyond belief) that just wait for easy kills, shoot and dock 30 seconds later. Why didn't CCP try to address THAT problem?? Station ganks and black-screen Jita ganks will still happen - but privateers just got their feet cut from under them.
I don't like nor dislike Privs - Never engaged them and the few times I've tried to, they were just insta-dockers. But it's the "populist" fix that CCP made to appease major whimps that really gets me.
