Killmails are the biggest problem with EVE. If you're in corp A you must be on X number of killmails a month. We're fighting corp B, and we know they use Z fit, so you must fly ship B and use fit Y. Killmails ruin the PVP aspect of the game for many other people. Considering how many threads I have seen about removing killmails, I know that I am not alone in this regard.
What other game do you play that gives more than just the name of character you killed, or even just basic stats like how many people you killed? What game, when you kill another character, tells you (regardless of whether you loot them or not) EXACTLY what they had equipped, how much damage they dealt, what buffs were affecting them, and (the ultimate bullshit) what was in their inventory?
Removing killmails would actually promote PVP, as more people would be willing to go into a fight, even knowing they may lose. No one would need to worry about being humiliated for so-called "lolfits". No one could be excluded for not having enough kills. Killmails take a lot of the fun out of the game.
If you want to know what your target has fitted or in cargo, use ship and cargo scanners before you kill them. Killmails are also a big reason that people gank. I won't argue that people gank for fun or profit, but people that do it just to pad their kill/lose ratio are just pathetic. Ganking is not PVP. Ganking is the equivalent of beating up the elderly (namely, a victim that can't fight back). Removing killmails won't stop people from ganking, but it may alter the reasons that they gank.
Get rid of killmails, and bring make EVE more fun to play. Even though is my industry main, I do have PVP alts who have operated in low- and null-sec. Feel free to flame me for this, but it is my opinion, based in simple facts.
Fly safe. |

Perhaps if you actually read my post (assuming you are even capable of reading), you would have seen that I already said I have done PVP.
I have been on low-sec roams, null-sec fleet fights, null-sec roams, dabbled in wormholes, etc. I have tried nearly every aspect of EVE, and have discovered that nearly every null-sec corp requires that you be on X number of killmails per month or get kicked out.
BTW, supporting the idea that you didn't actually read the OP, perhaps you could answer the question I posed in the second paragraph? If not, I will simply assume (probably correctly) that you are nothing more than the ignorant flaming forum troll that you appear to be.

Killmails are dumb in some ways, such as the whole "free intel" aspect. They are good in other ways though, like being able to confirm that you're doing a job in a merc contract, or even just showing off how big your PvP epeen is. Killmails as they are now are a very central part of the game, becoming in some aspects more important than the PvP they track in some cases.
OP is not crazy. Getting rid of KMs would remove a free intel tool that everyone in Eve takes for granted, and is not going to be a popular idea. It might turn out to be fun in the end, though. |

I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with you, but I just wanted to draw your attention to something.
You do realize that that you could've gotten flamed/trolled just as hard by going to any FPS forum and substituted KDR for KM and you wouldn't have exposed yourself to the inevitable hunting/ganking that will now happen to this character of yours.
Are you asking to get hammered everytime you undock? Cause it really seems like it. |

Free Intel Aside - Killmails are important for corps to monitor activity levels. Any high-end guild in any other MMO keeps track of how often their players show up. Most keep parses of how well they actually perform. KM's also promote competitiveness within corps and alliances to be the best/most active/ whathaveyou.
Killmails aren't ruining the game, people that are afraid to learn how to PvP or are completely risk averse are ruining the game. Its PvP nobody started out amazing, everyone learned, everyone has a few wtf-fits in their losses. Trial and Error. PvP should be fun, it should be challenging, and it should be (at times) rewarding, even if its just bragging rights.

Edited the OP to mention my difference of opinion regarding killmail versus K/D ratio.
If people wish to attempt to gank me whenever I undock, they are (and always have been) free to do so. That is part of the game, after all. However, just because this is an industry character does not mean that I am unwilling or unable to fight back. I simply choose my battles wisely, as any good tactician does. When I choose to fight, I make every effort to have as much intel about my enemy as possible. I also try to make sure that the conditions of the battle are in my favor.
Having studied warfare and conflict for the majority of my life, I have a very good grasp of both basic and advanced tactics and strategies as they apply to a wide variety of battlefields (land, sea, and aerospace).
Thank you for the reminder that there is a difference between K/D ratio and killmail intel.

Point of Note: The corporation The Program (PGM) requires that you be on 3 killmails a month. I was a member of this corporation for some time, until I was forced to suspend my account (due to RL financial reasons) for a number of months.

Perhaps you could be so kind as to send me an in-game mail with that information. I have been looking for a PVP corp (for my alt) with less strict requirements regarding killmails per month, CTAs, etc. I am a casual player, and don't always have the inclination to log on. I don't like corps that try to dictate to me when I have to log on, what ships and fits I can use, and so on. Any information regarding null-sec corps that may better suit my playstyle is appreciated.
Anyone who wishes to provide me with information about corps that may fit my criteria better are asked to send the information to me via in-game mail.

You wouldn't need all the information you get in a KM to prove your worth as a merc.
You can prove efficiency with loss/kill ratio only for the most part. Mostly though, you'd be trying for testimonials and word of mouth. Become a feared member of the merc community and you don't need any stupid killboard to prove yourself. Frankly, a KB says nothing about whether you honor your contracts, etc...so I personally wouldn't hire a merc on that info only.
The important aspect, that which the OP is actually bitching about (checking that your PvP employees are PvPing and not failfitting) could be impremented with the current system but by limiting access to fit information to yourself and employers. Even if only self, an alliance could continue monitoring its members through the API, which has become pretty powerful for providing exactly what information is needed and to whom.
At any rate, I do agree that the KM system is a bit flawed and takes away from the game by forcing everyone to be worried about harming some stupid statistic. I'd like to let my corp members be as stupid as they want on their own time, but because it effects the KB, and because ****** KB stats limit my ability to recruit and join alliances, I can't. |

There is also a point about PVP(ers) becoming obsessed over killmails. It's idiotic and some people don't enjoy talking about it all the time. It also promotes blobbing / ganking / neutral alts less solo PVP. Taking a billion ISK worth of ships to fly into low sec in an effort to blow up for fun looks less fun when people realize the next day that the billion ISK loss will show up on their killboard, and still be there in 1-2-10 years when they may want to join a fancy ass PVP corp / something they'll need to explain forever.

If your corp forces you to do PvP that you don't want to do, you are a ******* leech. Don't join a PvP corp for the sake of being in a PvP corp, join one for shooting motherfuckers. 4. Intel. Between local and evewho as intel tools you can be an intel pro in any sector of space. Your only excuse is that you are lazy. There is no reason to want intel on YOUR enemy. If I am trying to kill you, you need intel on me. Those are the tools that help you get the killmail that have nothing to do with killmails, and they are lethal. There are only two types of corporations that require killmail counts to maintain membership...
1) Corporations that select on the most-skilled pilots in New Eden for the purposes of Player vs. Player engagements on a wide array of fronts, from solo work to fleet battles and everything in between, so as to maintain a reputation as a lethal and effective organization worthy of a) hiring, b) avoiding, c) attacking (for good challenge), or d) defining successful PvP methods.
2) New Corporations that don't have a clue about PvP and are hoping this requirement somehow tricks a veteran into sticking with them and, hopefully, one day leading them to be a corporation similar to that described in #1.
Killmails serve an invaluable purpose in EVE Online and many other games, especially those of the MMO sort, as they help track and define how combat is taking place, why it is taking place, and where flaws and best-practices are taking place. If anything, Killmails most help CCP - the developing company - by making this information easy to capture, analyze, and work from.
As far as players concern, the need for killmails ranges from pure unadulterated self-pride to in-depth strategy building sessions. Anyone who knows something about PvP in EVE will know there is no such thing as a 'best fit' for any ship, just as there is no best ship for any engagement. Frigates kill Battlecruisers, Battleships kill frigates without drones, and that Orca really did take down a battleship...killmails hold excellent stories, stupid tragedies, awesome experiences, and important lessons learned the lucky...but more often, hard...way.
Killmails are by far NOT the reason why EVE PvP needs help (though it does indeed need help in some areas...always will, such is the nature of 100% player-driven content) but really are an indispensable tool for improving EVE Online.
TL;DR Smart and Logically Supported Answer in the event your question and proposed topic isn't a trolling post. Please read thoroughly so you fully understand the importance, and therefore necessity, of killmails.
If Troll, disregard above text - you're an idiot, please return to the bridge labeled "Faction Warfare" and make yourself useful by forcing a hapless GM or Developer to actually acknowledge the existence of those threads and their needs. |

Personally I dont have much issues with KMs per se, nor do I have any problems with what information can be gathered from them, or that corps and alliances use them to gauge activity.
No, my main problem with KMs is actually about combat efficiency and tactical variation. Because you wont show up on a KM unless you commit a hostile act aganst a target, you exclude several legitimate combat functions that are vital for a healthy fleet - i.e. scouts, boosters, logistics etc. Some will "kill mail w hore", reducing their efficiency and attention to their primary function just to get on the mail. Many will simply refuse to fly ships that will get them a low number of killmails. And thus, many fleets are composed primarily of DPS ships, with too little logistics, too little tackle, too few scouts and no real attempt to coordinate and use EWAR. Such simplified fleets dont give potential FCs the real tactical challenges besides comparing numbers. And thus these fleets breeds a blob mindset in both FCs and fleet members. Of course this is a simplification, but I believe the potential of EVE tactics would be better utilized without the current KM system.
Tl;DR: Killmails dulls down EVE combat, and is in part responsible for numbers beeing utilized before tactics. |

You mention no other game has something of the kind - well, for example the paperdoll interface in Ultima Online gives away everything character has equipped even before seeing everything as loot.
Killmails are good references for recalling great space battles. I have referred to mails and battle reports generated from mails numerous times when discussing certain fleet formats or when simply having a laugh with my spaceship friends - it is much more illustrative than mere narrative (and mails are not distorted in time, much like original documents from an archive vs someone's memories).
Eve is about honour not killmails. In fact the mails are a great testament to your virtuous path in eve and if someone wanted them removed, my first guess would be that the person talking can't kill anything without their falcon alt and is ashamed of it or something. I don't mean this as a personal insult to the OP just to be clear, but I really can't see what makes them bad.
Killmails can be used for reference to ponder on someone's virtuousness on the following levels: Honesty: has the pilot brought the fit he claims he can use? can they follow fitting guidelines for a gang format? Compassion: is the pilot fitting modules which benefit everyone in the gang instead of only himself? Valor: is the pilot's combat record evidence of no fear agains unfavourable odds? Justice: does the pilot regularly engage in anti-piracy? Sacrifice: is there evidence of selfless actions (such as suicide tackling, bumping etc) for the greater benefit of others? Honour: always presume Honour, but look for evidence of dishonoured duels and needing ECM to win. Spirituality: can you see creativity and a deep understanding of game mechanics from the fit on the killmail? Humility: the effective use of cheaper ship hulls and fits instead of needing maximum pimpage to win.

Serious, math it out.
Goons do thier hulk killing why?
Extreme example T1 fit Talos runs 80 mill? Generic fit Hulk is 240 mill
Pop 20 Hulks you get 300% ISK done to ISK taken, 2.4 billion to pad the number, bury the Hulks in fleet kills and you look like a super star.

His analogy was fine. He stressed that most PvP is about picking fights you know you can't lose. When put in a closed society where lawlessness is written in stone, some loot and riot in loose gangs called corps and alliances. They will dominate the closed society.
How do you think EVE came to be? Data from EVE was used to form public policy. Now that is scary.

I posted with this character since it is my main. This is the first character I ever created, is the primary character I play, and my PVP alt is currently on an account suspended due to RL finances.
LtCol Laurentius wrote:Personally I dont have much issues with KMs per se, nor do I have any problems with what information can be gathered from them, or that corps and alliances use them to gauge activity.
Thank for addressing a point I did not think to make originally. My PVP alt is specialized in ewar and stealth, and therefore, would not show up on most killmails, anyway. Since the character acts as a scout, ewar, cyno, or other support role, I do not fly DPS fits with it. As a result of this, I do not show up on most killmails.
I understand the use, and even need, for public K/D ratios, and fully support those. I even support a limited KM system, that says something like, "(Player A) flying (ship type X) killed (Player B's ship type Y)."
However, my problem lies in the amount of intel provided by the existing killmail system. Why should everyone in the world, suddenly be able to know exactly what was fitted on my ship, and what was in my cargohold? I could see KMs listing items that survived, since those can be looted by somebody. But how could you possibly know what items I had that were destroyed, unless you had used a ship or cargo scanner on my ship before you destroyed it?
I'm not saying that KMs should be removed from the game, only that the amount of information provided in them be limited to what you could learn after my ship is already destroyed. I believe that this meta-gaming statistic needs to be altered, to reduce the level of whoring, e-peen waving, douchebaggery that exists due to the current system. PVP should not be about padding statistics, it should be about fighting someone for a real purpose. Real purposes include claiming/defending sov, denial of assets, disruption of operations, having fun, even for lols/tears.
KM whoring just to pad statistics makes people not different than any of the children and basement-dwellers that spend their days playing CoD, BF, Halo, etc., and get upset when their K/D ratio shifts a point or two towards the loss side of things. People that do this, really need to put down their controller/step away from their computer for a few days, get a life, and try interacting with people in RL for a change. Life is not all about statistics. Learn that and anyone can become a better person.
Have fun and fly safe. |

This is just plain wrong, or at the least the reason you're not on KM's is not what you think.
EWAR shows up on killmails. Anyone that has an active, offensive module on the ship when it explodes, or at any time while it was being exploded, show up on the killmail. I've flown tackle, track, jam, and damp. I've run the gambit in ewar. Not this character, who's only had the privilege of being podded by myself, but on both my others. I'm not on the top of the KM, which is reserved to damage, but am certainly listed.
Consider the bottom 5 or so pilots on this KM for example: http://eve.battleclinic.com/killboard/killmail.php?id=13353293
In fact, fly dict and you get on the KM of everyone who died in your bubble, which is why most of the highest rated PvP pilots on battleclinic are in fact dictor pilots.
Scout is understandable, since your role is not to play a part at all in the actual melee, but if you're not getting on KMs as ewar then you're not activating your modules, plain and simple. It's hard to think of a role that's more KM ***** friendly THAN ewar actually. Even scouts can pop in and shoot a turret or rocket at something when the outcome is obvious...
Don't know what you're really crying about, but your story smells funny.

Dear OP,
It sounds like somebody's fit got made fun of by his corpmates after he FINALLY participated in some pvp and got blown up.
If your corpmates pick on your fits and demand that you actually participate in their fleets more often, then change corps. Don't blame EVE for your poor choice(s). Search the recruitment forum and do a little legwork. You can find corps that aren't hard-asses about constantly participating in fights.
(But 3 KM's per month is pretty laid back if you ask me - that sounds more like a minimum participation requirement to make sure you use your *main* with them and be part of the corp, not just fly an alt with them sometimes. Again - you're trying not to fit in by placing your alt in their corp and then blaming someone other than yourself.)
Removing ship fittings from killmails would be bad for several reasons:
1) It would encourage K/D padding with people blowing up empty ships on their alts. 2) It would allow people who are bad at pvp or ship fitting to hide their incompetency. 3) It would hurt mercs ability to calculate values of their kills
Pretend Eve is a high-tech, sci-fi world where information availability is high. Ship fittings get registered and scanned automatically once their hulls are breached and they have no protection left.
And lastly, HTFU and quit whining. This is my signature.-á There are many others like it, but this one is mine. |

I've been in more than a "few" corps and alliances. Some PvP oriented, most not, but none of them have ever had a KM requirement. My suggestion, if you're in such a group, and you don't like that part of it, get out.
In WWII, the Imperial Japanese Naval Air Service tried removing "killmails"....actually, they said that individual aerial victory credits would not be awarded. It still didn't stop the pilots from keeping personal score. Removing KMs from EVE won't stop pilots from keeping score, and without having to worry about showing proof, many would likely inflate their actual scores just to show off.
I've seen people post that EVE is a PVP game, and I've seen people post that EVE is a sandbox game. Not everyone is going to agree, but I think EVE simply is. If you like PvP, you can find plenty of it. If you don't like PvP, you can find a little corner of space where hardly anyone will bother you, and mine until the cows come home. Or, do whatever it is that makes you happy.
But don't expect kill mails to go away any time soon. Way too many people depend on them for various things. Never accept a 1v1 challenge. -áIf you do, don't be surprised when the other guy's friends show up and blow you up. |

I have far more kills and losses than Battleclinic seems to think I do. Killmails are simply a resource. Use it or don't. Ignore it if you don't like it. But seriously...if you are told you aren't getting enough kills on the killboards go find another alliance. Hell I spent the entire war in Geminate flying logistics with no combat drones...lost one of them but participated in god knows how many fleets. Well, I have to agree in one point: the killboard and your characters K/D ratio, that is viewable buy all players has made many people a little to conservative in fighting. You don't engage in 1v1 very often, especially if you have a weaker ship than your oponent . You stay with the cookiecutter fits and are reluctant to test out new ideas that might surprise your enemies and even win the combat. People play it safe because of their killboard record and new fits, tactics and ships are tested on Sisi, not on TQ. -.- |

I think enough have posted about the OPGÇÖs post, not only is he wrong in my opinion but playing a game where the special features like KMGÇÖs makes the gameplay more than your average FPS shooty game is just one extra reason why EVE is EVE.
I recently played Battlefield 3 on PC, it was fun for a week or two, then it got nerffed by popular kiddy demand via the EA forums, so much was changed that the fun element was lost from the game, now every gun is like evey other, every sight is virtually the same as all the others with different graphicsGǪ. BF3 will die fast.
Eve is different, every ship can be configured in 100GÇÖs of 1000GÇÖs of ways, making every ships defensive & offensive setting totally different from most. The KM is not only a trophy but also a confirmation of the lost shipGÇÖs setup, confirming that it was not just luck or overwhelming SP that lead to itGÇÖs loss.
Off topic, IGÇÖm glad Eve is a subscription game, otherwise it might just fall to the 'nerf kiddies', calling for all strategic data & play to be removedGǪ..

Armored Phoenix wrote:Killmails are the biggest problem with EVE.
Fly safe.
Edit: I have no problem with tracking kill/lose ratios. The problem that I have is the level of effortless intel provided by killmails. If you want to know how my ship is fit, or what cargo I am hauling, fit a ship and cargo scanner. Oh wait, that would require that you actually fit something that isn't tank or gank, and apply some effort to gaining the intel you desire.
Use a cargo and ship scanner before you kill them? For small scale pvp those slots are important and not to be wasted.
You say other games just give the number killed. You complain that some corps ask for a certain number killed. Well if we keep some statistic on numbers killed then the corps could still demand this. Removing the detail from killmails won't solve this at all. Are we not even going to know how many people we have killed? Is killing your alts in noob ships to count the same as killing cruisers with a frigate?
You say people gank in order to get killmails but you somehow don't think people engage in gfs for the killmails? If you admit both then it would seem killmails promote pvp.
The only thing you have said that might actually lead to killmails detering pvp is people might be embarrassed of their fit. I suppose such sensitive people who can't roll with the punches and take computer games so serious might exist. But I don't think ccp should cater to those people. Make faction war occupancy pvp instead of pve https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=53815&#post53815

Wait, what? Cries for nerfs resound louder here than most online games I have played. Ships with a specialized role or feature get nerfed until they are useless (dram for one). The ironic thing is that each one of them had a way to be countered, but no one wants to take the time or effort to do so, or they expect to be able to solo everything. When they run across something they can't, the rabble nerf bat comes out.
NoScream wrote:Eve is different, every ship can be configured in 100GÇÖs of 1000GÇÖs of ways, making every ships defensive & offensive setting totally different from most. Sure, you can make countless configurations, just be prepared to get a ticket on the rapetrain with 90% of them. Nobody picks the crappy fits to use, and there is a reason for that.
NoScream wrote:Off topic, IGÇÖm glad Eve is a subscription game, otherwise it might just fall to the 'nerf kiddies', calling for all strategic data & play to be removedGǪ..
Sorry, but I don't really buy that. Strategy in Eve means zerg your victims when you can, run when you can't. And i think that is what the OP is referring to...the mentality that you can only have fun when you win. KMs do alot to help perpetuate that mentality.
BUT...while I do think they serve a purpose as well, the KM should reflect only the one who got the killing blow. What we have now is the equivalent to a Medal of Honor recipient's entire squad getting a medal too because they happened to be there. The level of r-tardation that the current incarnation carries is phenomenal, and is truly more inaccurate than accurate right now. Not only that, but the need to KM hoard is so prevelant that I once had to wait 30 minutes just so a corpie could get in on it too. That was such a waste that at that moment, I just didn't give a crap about them anymore.
KMs aren't Medals of Honor...they're more like a facebook page that all your buddies can be a part of. If you bring down a giant, you're a hero. If you kill something weak-even if it has to die-then you will endure contempt. |

The intel that Kill Mails provide is freely available to everyone. Smart players research their enemy, poor players do not. Why remove the resource because some choose not to take advantage of it.
Acquiring intel has always been of vital importance in any sport, game, or military operation. To take way something that the victor could logically acquire from investigating the wreck of their victims makes little, if any, sense.
Players in any game like to be able to judge their performance. Putting limits on this would be "off putting" to most of the player base for no good reason.
The people that avoid combat because of Kill Mails would simply find another excuse not to get involved in combat if they were removed. Revenge should not stop at the ship!

On the other hand, I don't PvP nearly enough to care, and because I make most of my ISK without undocking, I don't have to worry about the gankfest.
Why? Any ship can be ganked. If a "real" PvP'er see's someone with all gank mails, it makes them MORE of a target.
Also, if you are the target, and you die, and don't change your fit/habbits, you really aren't learning.

Killmails are an intelligence tool with combined bragging rights. and that is it.
Having an inordinate amount of killmails, doesn't magically make you immune to the drudgery of 'lesser pilots'; or increase the effectiveness of your ship. I don't think the problem is necessarily killmails as much as it is killboards.
This is EvE, once you accept/experience/want to participate in PvP, you will lose ships, this is a given. More often then not, in the process of seperating yourself from your ship you made a bad decision or you were being actively chased and/or hunted by someone more experienced then you.
Winning fights in EvE has far less to do with how you fit your ship, and much more to do with placing your opponent willingly or unwillingly into a situation where you have the tools to come out successful; be it solo, with friends/alts or into a trap of unsuspecting nastiness. If patient, and willing to wait for the above conditions to happen, chances are; your victory will be sweet, and you will have a mail to remind you of it.
The big problem here- is with the people that think Killboard Stats makes them somehow superior then others, while KBs can be used as a tool, to asess the threats of another pilot; its not a 100% be-all, end-all. There are fleet pilots that are just as good (if not better solo), and solo pilots, that can't understand the possibility of fleet combat. Theres even blob warfare where it has nothing to do with the individual pilot, squad or wing, but the mulitple FCs and target callers driving the bus to victory.
If PvP in EvE is ever defined by a player to be all inclusively about amassing killmails in a risk free manner, it will stop being fun, they will burn out, and eventually quit. Play EvE to Play EvE. PvP to relish in explosions, hopefully theirs, sometimes yours. As long as you learn from your mistakes, or the mistakes of others, you will continue to improve.

I don't know if PVP would improve, but it certainly could help small gangs.
In several situations I should have been ganked hard enough to crash the hard drive, but did not, because the team that outnumbered me fell apart from fear.
And I am not that scarey or good.
What happened was, while good as dead up against the entire team, there was no guarantee against me taking out at least one of them in the process.
So half of them warped away - maybe to get as bigger ship? - because they didn't want to be "the lossmail" of the incident.
Since I don't spend much time in gank culture, based one what is publicly seen thus far, there is pressure to kill and not get killed and such "sacrifice plays" of taking one for the team are therefore considered detrimental. So if you are the one getting popped all of the time, even if the target is successfully destroyed and the ships you lose are mainly cheapies, it looks like you will still draw the ire of your corps or friends, get called a failure, etc.
So because of that, even a small team or PVP corp is comprised of people are are still looking out only for themselves - or to be more accurate: only for their "stats".
While there is something certainly wrong with that, such childishness has kept my ship in one piece, so perhaps we can leave it as an element of PVP that is in fact playing against the fears of those who are worried about how "leet" they are. The sword has a second edge.

Killmails need more iteration. More information like location in space, who was remote assisting, etc. Not a nerf! Removing or reducing the amount of information will not change a thing as far as players running from fights or blobbing. Your entire issue is the corporation/alliance you are a part of. So instead of crying about kill mails on the forums, perhaps you need to find a new corporation/alliance.
Perhaps the biggest issue is you don't want to fight for anything and would be better off playing Candy Land where everyone is a winner.

I, in fact, am incapable of crying. I'm a devious creature with a heart forged from the most sarcastic of cold stone. My statements rest upon the notion that too much information is given via killmail. Isn't it a bit odd that so much metagame information is candidly provided?
I'm not talking about trivial details like location, and such. If players want to know what another ship's fitting includes, they should have to do it themselves. Whether by scanning the vessel in question, asking the other player (low odds of success) or by taking a peek in to the debris field to see what the pinata stick's fury left intact. It would help PvP to remove mails from system, but I fear the rabble have become too attached to their daily/weekly e-peen shots for such a move to garner much support.
For me the Intel bit is the gimp brother of the problem, the much bigger problem is the publicly available K:D ratio and ISK-loss stats that outright keep people from engaging before they are guaranteed a win (read: blob the snot out of you) .. the quality fights that has me on the edge of my seat are incredibly rare these days, in large part due to the irrational fear of "tanking ones stats".
- Intel bit can be solved by blanking mails, only give a list of what dropped and let people use the awesome science of guesstimate to figure out what they just killed. - Fear of "Da Stats!" can not be solved except by removal of mails or by redacting them so heavily that keeping them around become kind of naff.
Hopefully CCP will soon fulfil their 6+ year old promise (from before I even joined!) and create mechanics that cater directly to the small gang and mails lose some of the power .. until then there is not much to do other than ignore them, falsify them (BAD DOG!) or abuse them. |
