Your post makes no sense. There is no attribute differentiation between males and females in Eve. Then you say you choose female over male because of looks.

A summary of his statements is this:
I would pick a female toon over male if females had better stats. For example, I picked a female Achura because the male Achura was ugly.
So... I guess if you include what the pixels look like to the player as an attribute, it would make sense. Luckily for us, that attribute has no impact on game mechanics. The attributes that affect game mechanics are no different between the male and the female selection of Achura, luckily.

It's good that many play as females in games. Imagine if everyone you met was a fugly bald dude trying to look evil, failing in that horribly and looking like a junkie. I can easily counter these stupid cross-dressing assumptions by saying that i don't need to look like a muscular tough guy in a game to feel good about myself. Lastly, every mmo i have played has FUGLY male models and women are cooler when kicking ass :)

1. Achura males look like they have some sort of birth defect and need plastic surgery.

It is probably is somehow linked to the odd (I think) phenomenon of the ass kicking big gun wielding hero girl as a male fantasy. You see this trend repeated over and over in movies.
I never understood what could be attractive about girls that act manly tough. I don't need my girlfriend to be a bruiser and will never fantasize that she is.
It is also less realistic and for me hard to swallow. In general men are stronger, faster, and more physically able. That is why there are distinctions between male and female world records, and most sports are separated by gender.
It doesn't make females inferior in any way, I suspect it is runaway feminism that has gripped the mainstream populous. Females have their own strengths, combat prowess isn't one of them. Why anyone would want this to be the case is beyond me.
How are these two issues linked? I'm not sure, I just imagine those that choose female MMO avatars in general as those who also fantasize about warrior females (as was stated by 1 or more posts so far).
As for why there should be a reason? I guess there should be as much reason for male choosing female avatars as why most people like the color Red for sports cars, or why some people have sex with animals.
Not everyone likes the same thing, sometimes it is perplexing to see people make the choices they make, no explanation is NECESSARY. So don't sound so defensive when someone asks the question, they probably just don't understand.

*looka around*..yes, I am the first in this thread I guess that actually is a male with a desire to become(partially) and feels(partially) female IRL. I also know that I am not the only one around, I know atleast 2 other cases, which I sadly dont speak to anymore since they left the game. I created this character somewhat out of jealousy, spent like an hour on it  Its always a nightmare when people ask me whether I am a guy or girl, but that has been the case with small kids at my work too, since I wear jewelry and have midlong curly hair. Difficult questions to avoid, I just wish I could say "Yes im a girl, with something extra ;)"You need to feel proud of yourself to enjoy life I guess The only male character I currently have is DoctorFunkenstein...not playing it, was just messing around with the startup screen and it seemed funny :P
I also happen to be bisexual, which is rare here too ;0 So I can enjoy a fine Intaki or Sebiestor girl but also wont step aside for those hot Gallente boys and Deitie males in uniform :P

Interestingly enough, the idea of the badarse female ******e didn't really come about until the late 80s with games like Tomb Raider and Street Fighter. Unfortunately, it took the gaming industry quite a while (and they're still not quite caught up ) to realize that creating female characters with unrealistic proportions and with emotions nearly identical to men only attracts pubescent fanboys.

Perhaps that's exactly why it's so appealing - a completely badass girl has a certain exotic perception because usually you don't see that kind of thing.
My wife is pretty un-girly by most standards - she works in a horse barn and comes home covered in dirt, she's rude, farts, and is generally unwilling to put up with bull****, but that's one of the things that made me fall in love with her in the first place. She also tends to not participate in the usual verbal maneuverings I've known many girls to employ, which is refreshing since I'm horrible at deciphering it.

Well one way to decide if something is fair or not is to turn the tables.
I knew a guy who refused to play a game because so many women were pretending to be men. So why is it any of his business what the women do playing their game?
Now some people will say the women have every right to do this for whatever reason.
Others may try to analyze the reasons, come up with theories and want to make a big deal out of it and say women should be ashamed for playing men in games.
So, i guess if you thinks its okay for women, should it not be okay for men? In an age of equal geekism, does it really matter?
