There seem to be a number of opinions on the topic.
1. There should be equal representation of major 0.0 alliances--someone from BoB, someone from Goonswarm, someone from the North, etc.
2. The major alliances in this conflict should not have direct representation. Instead, there could be indirect representation (i.e. the suggestion that I do it).
3. No major alliances should have a voice at all.
4. No 0.0 alliances should have a voice at all.

Not to mention the forum warriors or no forum warriors question.
Personally, it'll be a forum lady-of-the-night who is likely to pick up my vote. I'm only going to vote for people I know and have interacted with, and I know far more and varied people from EVE-O than I do from in game. --------

Agreed. He can chain two sentences together without using an expletive or foaming at the mouth, and that's two sentences more than the majority of his corp.

Other than a brief look at the NY times article referencing this, I've not seen CCP mention anything about it or read the details of what it will actually entail.
I also don't think filling the positions with members of 0.0 alliances will solve anything. Over time the same lack of trust in them will develop, largely for the same reasons, that their mains may have vested interests in the outcomes of any investigations.
Would be funny if they televise some of the discussions on EveTV though...think we'd all love to see grown adults throwing chairs and furniture at each other.
Originally by: BoB Allied Representative Don't you understand? Goonswarm have to be banned, whenever we beat them the alliance doesn't disband like they're supposed too...oops...I mean, they cheat! yes, lot's of cheating going on...and stuff...bad stuff, so bad, I don't want to talk about it right now, maybe after we ban them.
Originally by: Anti-BoB Representative I've been studying the fluctuations of Lag in Jita and by decrypting the packet stream coming from the server as an audio wave I've discovered a hidden underlying morse code message - clearly indicating that CCP and BoB are in cohoots!
well, it'll be amusing for 5 minutes maybe.
Interested to see how exactly it's going to work.

Who will be elected will depend on the requirements and how much information CCP is willing to let the auditors look at. I would want the 9 to be split into 3 categories.
1: DBA's to look over the database. This will be a daunting task as there's probably millions of transitions daily.
2: Investigators to interview the people at CCP.
3: And last a group to look at the internal ticketing system to verify issues opened by players and CCP employees and how they were addressed.
What they will be looking for are irregularities. They will have to be professionals and not cry wolf at everything they find and make sure they have a good understanding of the subject matter. Most of all they will have to be level headed if they do find something and give a chance to CCP to fix their mistakes.
We have gone through several audits and no matter what you do if you dig enough you will find something.
Now the question is how much of it will be reported back to the player base?
Everything? No, thatĘs not going to happen you will see probably 10% and much of that will be information on player exploitation.

Edited by: w0rmy on 08/06/2007 11:22:32 I disagree with most of you...
Why?
Unless these reps come from a technical/auditing/etc background...
What exactly are they going to oversee?
"Yes, I can confirm CCP's server room has blinky lights" is not what I want to hear.
I want to hear technical people, people who have had experience in similar types of industry to the one CCP is in.
Forums slappers who have no skills for doing this type of job are no use in these positions.
Afterall what use are they in auditing CCP their procedures and systems, if they dont know what the information is theyre looking at when CCP provide it.
I also believe thse people putting themselves forward should need present us with REAL WORLD references/Curriculum Vitae that directly relate to this type of work.
This is a major responsibility, one that cant be taken lightly, one that cant be awarded to the people who are most people.
These people need to have the right skillset, to do this job. It is a job, a REAL WORLD job, and as such, i feel it should be treated as such.

ATM, the best suggestion I've heard as to how this process should work is that the elected delegates are the heads of an auditing team. Hire professional auditors whose broad strokes are guided by the delegates and who report back to them, who then in turn report back to us. That way, the technical expertise is in place, while the delegates make sure that the auditors are investigating the specific concerns of the community at-large.
In which case, a well-spoken forum w***e is precisely who you want for the job.

I personally am not even thinking about who to vote for, Since like the Gallente elections this one will probably drag on for serveral years, dissapearing & reappering in threads, till suddenly CCP realise they were supposed to haev an election n pick some ppl at random or just call shinanigens on the whole thing. Assuming it ever goes further then just a small article in the NYT.
As to who they might be. What alliance theyre in is irrelavent, as ultimately is how long theyve been playing. The only thing that should matter is if they have a clue what the wall of text CCP show them in Iceland means. Coz if they dont, then it doesnt matter who they are; their being there is pointless & achieves nothing.

Maybe CCP should come up with a list, and submit for the players approval?
As for anyone from BoB or Goonswarm....they have blown their reputations already....nobody could really trust them.
I agree, this should not be a forum popularity contest...
The problem is, in-game, players are less widely well known than on the forums...
Most players will just be nominating their CEO's, as that's the most respected player they know in the game... How many CEO's out there exactly???

I still disagree.
These people need to have the procedural/Technical understanding, so they could take that information and present it to us.
I can think of nothing worse than a forum slapper, who gets presented with information from said auditing organisation, and have no clue as to what it means.
EVE has the people with the right skillsets, and some of them are on the forums...
But these people MUST have a skillset valuable to the goal of this...
If this turns into a popularity contest, then CCP will achieve nothing from this.
This isnt about who speaks best on the forums, nor who has the most mates to call on for votes, this is about finding the people to get the answers needed.
I can only hope people take their responsibility as a voter serious.

The panel should include a few people that are industrial specialists too, as knowledge in this area will provide opourtunity to examine these areas of the game that some stereotypical 0.0 PvPers do not have the knowledge to investigate.

You just can't pick nobodies as they probably don't care enough or don't have the knowledge to perform the job as well as others.
Because this isnt in game anymore, this requires real world skills.
Whats someone without technical/procedural ability going to do? Ask CCP for answers to their questions, and then present the answers to us?
Thats EXACTLY what we have now, We ask questions on the forums, CCP give us the answers.
We want people who have the skills to find the answers themselves.
If we have questions about petitions, we want someone to look into it who has experience with ticking systems.
If we want the rumour that 'XXX have their own priority nodes, and different connection IP's' we want DBA, System Engineers and IP engineers to look at it.
Job blogs well spoken forum slapper, thought very adept at understanding the game mechanics as presented to him by CCP, will not achieve anything we cant achieve now.
All they will acheieve is wasting our subscriptions on sending them over to Iceland.
We want answers, and the point of this commitee is so they answers dont have to come from CCP, this is why we need people who can do the investigation themselves.... otherwise this achieves nothing.

I agree with W0rmy
For now we don't have any information about what CCP really want and what they do to achieve their goal. There's no post on the forum from CCP.
One of the major problem is that people who have the competence may don't have time to do it. If you have a job, it's a major problem to come in iceland on a regular basis. That means meeting, audition, report writing, conclusion, suggestion... And after some indicatin that suggestion are not put on a desk and forgotten.
What CCP wait for this work. Suggestion? Out of company eyes to check if there's amelioration to do? Check the procedures? Statement that there's something rotten in denmark kingdom .
What CCP want for this team? Competence in audit? Competence in quality plan (aka ISO)? or all player can do this.
Before wotes are to be public, CCP will have a lot of work to do about definition of What tehy want, and how they achieve this

I cant believe you just added t20 to that list after everything thats happend....i really hope that was some sort of joke.....lol.
Anyway i dont think anyone from the large alliances should be involved at all, no devs and no forum mods...infact no one with any CCP links at all....i think it should be made up of players who have some sort of experiance in auditing or players that have a technical grasp on the game and its dynamics.
I still have the feeling that this is just a whitewash and it wont make the slightest bit of difference....these elections are for people who will go to CCP head-office maybe once a year, and to be honest there is no guarantee that they wont be swayed by CCP and are not susceptible to corruption themselfs....i guess my glass is half empty on this topic and i really dont think its gonna make the slightest bit of difference.
I could also start suggesting names left right and center.....but i wont....this election just like any other will be a farce and turn in to nothing more than a popularity contest either from who has posted more on the forums or who are the most well known and feared player ingame.
Either way i dont think this will become a reality for a long time to come...these sort of things take time and effort to put together so dont hold your breath just yet on everything to be perfect in the garden of new eden anytime soon.
Anyway enough of my rant....i think i may just need coffee or chocolate or something....maybe a chocolate coffee....or maybe im just extra moody today....lol.....who know's
