I really don't understand why it was removed in the 1st place. The system map, while nice-ish for using probes, is entirely inadequate for any kind of directional scanning.
Not only that, but the system map zooms all the way in everytime you warp, forcing you to reposition the camera every time.
So yes. /signed and /doublesigned. (and don't even tell me to use "f11" - on a small resolution screen it uses up such a ridiculous ammount of screen realestate for worthless features it's not even funny.

I have no idea why it was removed in the first place.

You can turn the effects off in the options of the map. However It would be also good to set destinations in the autopilot without opening the whole map

You can do that, actually. Type the name of your destination in a chat window (don't press enter). Then select it-> right click -> link solarsystem. Then right-click on the link, "set destination" or "set waypoint".
To remove the destination or waypoints, right click on the hyperlink and "remove ...".
Hope that helps.
I try to make do without the map as much as possible (such as using Ombey's 2d maps), but sometimes you just need to plan that long trade route or that roundabout by the camped gate.

/signed, but you know they're not going to do it. They don't care that no one asked for to be removed. They don't care that everyone wants it back. I don't know what's behind the attitude, but this is what they do - break things people like and introduce things few people want.
I wonder if I should keep quiet on this, for fear of having it also removed for being too similar.
Put Asteroid belts, stations and stargates on the overview. Warp to the first planet with a belt. Scan 360 to look for a target. If it's not there, move to the nearest planet beyond 14AU with a belt and do it again.
If you find someone, narrow it straight down to 5 degrees, and start clicking on each belt/station/gate within 14AU and point right at it. Scan each belt until you find them. It's not as good as the minimap was, but it works almost as well for me.

signed, as long as it can be toggled off. I like to leave scanner open in one corner of the screen, and don't really need that map making it bigger. For getting your bearings in system fast, the minimap was the greatest, always thought it needed an on/off button though.

The small map on the directional scanner was awesome I miss it...

Completely agree.
It's not that the current set up sucks, it's just done wrong. The local window worked well with the directional scanner window because it was a packaged unit - one that could be dragged around and placed elsewhere on your screen - read as "1 window, that could be placed elsewhere"
Currently by using f11, the local system scan shows up in the bottom right hand corner with 3 other windows I don't want hogging up my desk space. I also want to move the local system scanner window around, which brings us back to returning the original directional scanner.
Also, just as a suggestion, you might want to look at the other f11 windows because half the time systems or whatnot from a constellation don't show up correctly. It's like the window is too small to show all the available information. Constantly it doesn't show 1 or 2 exit points from a constellation.

F-11 is a Non-Solution as has been said before, it takes up to much screen real estate (and I have a 21" Widescreen ). The old movable window was superior in every way.
I know that is has been mentioned in the Dev Blogs that all ships will be getting a new scanner of some type so hopefully the F-11 will just be a bad, yet temporary compromise. But as far as the UI is concerned the old way was good enough. please bring it back

oh yes, pretty please with sugar on top can we have it back as it was? :) It was great, can't stand the band at the side, I only want to see the mini map bit, not that other info... it hides too much of the screen for a start.
