Thank you that answers my question perfectly, and once again this widget has to be my favorite one on my dashboard :)

At this point, I would contact support on this. It certainly should have showed up by now.

Thanks for this!
After having my API key changed, I keep getting the cached API key authentication failure. Deleting the preference plist results in the previous key showing up on the widget's backside; entering the new key still results in the failure. Where would it be caching the old key?

I still haven't got around to checking this out. Which .plist file did you delete? Deleting that file should take out every bit of information. Something could be leftover in Dashboard's internals.
Try removing the widgets from the Dashboard, deleting the plist in ~/Library/Preferences/widget-com.cornerspeed.kasey.Eve Skill Monitor.plist, then logging out and back in (to restart Dashboard).
If that doesn't nuke your preferences, then my guess would be there's something wrong with Dashboard.

Edited by: Blue Wraith on 29/02/2008 22:37:14 ESM v2.2.1 now available.
Fixes: Fixed 12 PM displayed as 12 AM. Fixed (hopefully) API Key changes. If you change API Key info on the back, it should now take effect immediately rather than continuing to display your old info.
Let me know if any other problems arise. Thanks to those that pointed out the above bugs.

Maybe you should update your first post it still says 2.2.0 is the latest version.
Great widget though, really waiting on the cocoa app. Unfortunately I cannot program that much, but testing I will do when a complete app is released!

Version 2.2.2 now available.
Additions: Clickable 12 or 24 hr time format for the Skill Finish data. Click on the time to toggle between them.
Fixes: Minor UI tweak to actually center the OK button on warning dialogs. It's been annoying me for some time, and I finally got around to fixing it.

Edited by: William Darkk on 06/03/2008 16:53:45 I recall seeing somewhere a picture of the widget showing multiple accounts/characters - is that a planned feature, or should I just run multiple copies?
EDIT: Apparently there's some kind of connecter that's supposed to link multiple instances of the widget, but I don't see it. -------------------------------------------------- <3 my Drones |

To monitor multiple accounts, just plop another widget on the dashboard.
ESM v2 was initially going to be a multi-account widget. I saw that a single-account widget was going to be the fastest way to get a working widget, so I took that path first. A single-account widget also has certain advantages for a crowded dashboard (being able to place the widgets other than vertically).
ESM could be converted to a multi-account widget, but I really don't see a compelling reason to do so just yet. The only thing I could think of that you can do with a multi-account widget but not with multiple single-account ones is sort the widgets by skill finish order. Probably not everyone would even like that feature.
I'm always open for suggestions, though.

One of the pictures back in the thread shows some sort of "border" between two widgets. It appears that the widgets are aware of each other and "stuck" to each other, then displayed a border to indicate that they were stuck.
That'd be cool if you could do it. -------------------------------------------------- <3 my Drones |

This is quite nice, thanks. My only thing is, I'm wondering if you could add an option to not display the portrait. I use this on my work computer, and not that anyone is really going to mind, but something even less distinctive couldn't hurt.

Ok, supplement to my above post:
I just had a skill finish, and the audio notification was a somewhat unwelcome surprise. Something like a "Work Mode" option, disabling both the portraits and the audio would be very nice.

The "total skillpoints" attribute shows how many you have at this moment, right? And not what you will have after the skill completes, or am I totally wrong here?
Because it looks like that my "total skillpoints" attribute is not updating. It is still the same as two days ago (maybe even the same as before the patch, but I'm not sure about that). And I haven't switched skills in between.
Does it has anything to do with the API or the widget? I haven't tried evemon or checking ingame because I didn't have time yet.

A small story for you:
Ralumos is sitting in his Systems Administration II class, and there's about an hour left. Boredom is setting in, so he decides to get out his trusty MacBook and surf a little.
He opens the lid, gets ready to type in his password, when suddenly the boring silence of the classroom is pierced by the deafeningly loud cry of "SKILL TRAINING COMPLETED."
All heads turn, and the professor stops speaking. Ral shrinks into his chair and says "Sorry...turning volume off." In the back of the room one student exclaims "EVE ONLINE, AWESOME!"
Moral of the story: I'd really like an option to turn off the skill ending notification, or at the very least make it wait until Dashboard is actually activated. I normally keep my volume on mute, but I can't change it until I've logged in, and the widget does its damage before that.

I just noticed the Used Memory readout for iStat was showing an unusually high readout for what I'm doing (watching a low-res video), so I popped open Activity Monitor to see what's using memory.
The widget is using 109MB of memory at the moment, and it's increasing every time I open the Dashboard. Leakage methinks?
(Also, what language, and IDE, did you write the widget in, out of interest...?)

Seem to have been resolved, it was wrong ingame too, until I changed skill, now it works flawlessly again.

Update on this. Approx. two days later (no reboot) and the memory usage is back down to ~5MB, so it seems to have collected its garbage properly now. Sig removed, inappropriate content. If you would like further details please mail [email protected] ~Saint |

The short answer is that ESM shows your total skill points, not counting what is currently training. This should be the same as what the in-game total skill points shows.
Whenever ESM downloads your skill sheet (every hour or so), it goes through all your skills and sums the SP for each. When a skill is training, it doesn't accumulate skill points on your skill sheet. It's in a "training limbo" of sorts. It's not until the skill finishes or you change to a different skill that the trained points show up on your character sheet. ESM doesn't do any extra training projections over what the game does. The total you see in ESM should be the same total you see on the char sheet.
