Hi, I'm an old month player, and having a grteat time in EVE.
I would recommend more of an introduction to the different races in EVE. A little history, and then introduction to their different playstyles.
The Amarr should be introduced as the religious zealots they are, and then show a few of their ships and explain clearly that they prefer the use of energy weapons. Explain their advantage, and shorcomings. Give the video a drive, zealot kind of style.
The Gallente, introduced as the force representing freedom and liberty in the universe. Show their ships, explain that they are tough ships and favor drone combat over other styles. Make the video look well presented, calm.
Caldari, shown as the military driving force in the universe. Explain their basic tactics, and that they use missiles over all other weapons. Make this intro look like one of those militaristic commercials (the army needs YOU kinda of thing).
Minnatar. The oppresed force in the universe. Show their ships as weapons as lower tech, but compensated through speed of versatility. Explain their reliance on projectile weapons, and it's advantages/disadvantages. Show this video as from an underground, resistance group. A more desperate view on it.
The video (besides looking really cool, and giving more flavor to each race), would introduce the different forces in the universe, and their different stratefy/playstyles. It would help people choose what they want to be if they see a Dominix battleship swarming opponents with drones, or a Drake battlecruiser raining death on it's opponents from a distance. It should also show different ships and architecture from the races so you can also pick the coolest looking one.
Basically, it should be like one of your great videos launched with each expansion, but it should also explain the races, what they do, what makes them tick, what their strenghts/weaknesses are. I wish I could have seen a video like that before entering the game. It would have been really helpful.
Thanks.
Kal.

totally agree with this, the idea is awesome, how many new guys do you see fitting rails on their Punisher frigates. A video overview of the races, and with voice descriptions of their defense, arms, and general views would be nice. The different styles would just add flair that the 2+ hour tutorial is lacking.

This is a great Idea, CCP. Most everything has been covered.
1.) Drones. I know veteran players who refuse to use drones because they can't figure out how they work, but totally miss how powerful drones are. I can take on npc cruisers and lvl2 missions in a Probe ship (and live) because of my drones.
2.) The Perpetual Motion Machine tutorial mission. Despite the "Villard Wheel" bio, many players still can't figure how to complete the mission. Invention, research and blueprint copies come to mind as well as Research Agents.
3.) I personally would like to know how to scan the MAP for player locations in low sec.
4.) On-board scanner.
5.) POS use.
6.) Mining, dealing with npc pirates that spawn and cargo containers (aka "cans").

Ive been playing eve since october last year, making it a good 9 months of play.
I think a decent guide on mining would definatly be required.
I'd happily do it, even if its not a community thing, you must include the methods, why it is important to physical PvP as well as its actual passive PvP structure (mining competition) as well as everything else. ______________________________

Next shoud be a short advise in Skilling.
- include a small skill tree which coud help to be effectiv in the first steps. -often comments about learning skills and there learning boosting effects. - add implants to this part too
Next shoud be a small remembering to point one and the destruction of pod include the comment that all implants will be lost if there are fitted one.
Next coud be comment which ways are the best in getting the first isks.
-a short advise in mining (diffrence between servral mining lasers ) - a short advice in npc hunting ( how to target --- shoot ) - a short comment about courier work and eve s industrial part - shortcut about low sec mining and his better quality ores Have u upgrade your clone? (little fight?)

I been playin eve since 2004 and a lot changed since then so I feel that having a video tutrial would be a good idea for new players, and maybe even soem veterians who want to learn a new skill. Some people like me and other like the visuial approch to tuturials rather the reading. I think even more in depth escpecially since things have changed so much.

6 month player here. If the idea is to have short video clips integrated into the existing tutorial, that would certainly be welcome - sitting through the whole tutorial as it is can be pretty draining, and showing people how things work alongside the verbal explanation might help to clarify things a little better as well as break up the tutorial. Some aspects can be explained well enough just through the existing guide though, and having new players sit through a full video as well as Aura's lectures is going to drive them insane.

To begin with, you could rewrite the text manual so it is actually relevant to the current game.
The current ingame tutorials are sufficient for a new player to learn "The Basics".
What we really need is some kind of manual on the more advanced skills. Researching bpo, Cosmos, static and instanced complexes, etc, etc.
I play another game called "Anarchy Online". This game allows chatbots. The game company allows users to tie these bots into a game database. You can can drop an item into a tell to a chatbot and it will give you all the info about it. You can type in an item name and it will tell you what is needed to make it, what skills are needed, and quite often where the items can be found and what you may face to get them.
Best of all, these chatbots are completely coded and maintained by enthusiastic users at no additional cost to the company providing the game.
You say this is our universe. How about giving us the tools to make it just that?

We need a good video guide on the map and how to use it to your advantage, every new player I've let into my corp has had trouble with it. Have a guide on how to use it to find agents, how to check if that low sec system is camped, and how to use it in conjuction with scan probes.
Another idea would be is a guide to each ship class, show some examples of the ships in the class in combat.

Its a great idea, but one that should be broken down into topics - one video covering everything would be far too large.
I've seen a number of video tutorials on subjects like scan probing and tackling which describe the techniques in a way that is impossible to compare with a text based alternative. |

I just ended my 14 day trial and signed up. There are a few things that would help me after I went through the tutorials:
1. Video walkthrough on using the map...How to find systems, how to find particular regions in space like Caldari space (how to find all systems in Caldari space etc), how to find high sec, low sec space using the interface.
2. How to fit a ship and buy equipment. The equipment descriptions in the marketplace leave a lot to be desired, a complete walkthrough of the various types of equipment and what each is really good for, suggestions on how to build those early ships and what equipment to buy to make them survivable.

For video specifically? Combat.
Just as some people perform music better after hearing it than reading it from a page, so some pilots understand combat better after seeing it (from the outside) than reading text about it. Pages 26 and 27 of the New Pilot Guide are quite good (and better viewable ingame were that possible). The information we are able to give in chat is also quite good. But neither of them are video.
Video is also an opportunity to aid pilots who have trouble visualizing in 3-D. A very difficult concept to get across from text, and not one helped by a sci-fi industry that portrays space battles in two dimensions.
Most of the other tutorial subjects do not involve movement, so video would not have an advantage over the traditional flat-screen instruction. Or at least, taping someone using the market over their shoulder provides nothing beyond Aura bringing up and manipulating the market screens, as far as I can see.
Good luck with your efforts.

Cut to: The first sight of Velator. Voice over - You wanna play EVE? So, you must know: 1. After 2 months of playing you will start a new EVE, as it will change completely. 2. After 4 months of playing you will start a new EVE, as it will change completely. 3. After 6 months of playing you will start a new EVE, as it will change completely. 4. After 8 months of playing you will start a new EVE, as it will change completely.
and so on and so on.. After playing for 1 year you will never know what game have you played.

I would like to see a video made that explains security status of sectors to new users interested in pvp. The pros-cons of each, what it means, etc. I been playing for 3 months I still don't fully understand it. Thats because lots of people are better with visual cues than actually reading a forum. Showing someone is better teaching tool that reading.
You could make TONS of videos for new users, even make a New User Help Video section on website to show you visually to users how to do certain things in eve, from beginner to advanced user videos.
Honestly this is sad that these videos have not been made already, even make them available to people who do not play game (subscribe), so they can get more interested in it.
You can even have it so they can fight the videos for the type of play they are into. Pvp into videos, basics of pvp, basics of mining, advancing mining, advanced pvp, etc.

Have been in game for appoimatly 7 and a half months. Would like to see a vidio tutorial on how to do everthing in the game starting with the normal nubie stuff and going into more complex things that would explain things on a level that someone with an I.Q. of about 100 or less could understand. It may also be of interest to put things on a lvl that would alow people to choose there own lvl of learning. We are not all speed reading scientists but neither are we all able to get it no matter who writes it. Ease of catagories is also a concern as it takes time to find what you want and some of us have to work for a living. Akaronon

I've been playing my Caldari character for exactly 1 year as of July 7th, have been playing EVE for almost 2 years. (I feel like I'm in a freakin' AA meeting)
Originally by: James Hoagland I recently made an Amarr(sp?) character and was going through the tut missions for that race when I came across one mish that required me to invent a Villard Wheel. I went through the tut explanation and reread the mission details about 10 times and still couldn't figure it out. I asked for help in the Rookie channel in-game and no one could offer advise on it there. I still have yet to complete that mish.
I would elect to add the invention / production process and procedure to the video.
I'm going to have to second that. It seems like that mission causes the most grief for any new player. There is a character named 'Villard Wheel' in the game with the full description of what needs to be done but it only covers places and people that are in the Gallente Federation which caused some confusion for a beginner just the other night which resulted in him/her losing the ability to complete the mission. Ask el caido, me or anybody else that is a member of School of Applied Knowledge and you'll know that we have to direct people to that 'Villard Wheel' Bio multiple times in a few hours.
Another one that seems to cause grief for beginner players is what exactly it means to leave >0.5 secure space behind. Quite often we veterans get the same headache about a 1-day old person getting pod-killed while in a low-sec system. Regardless of the ignorance of the player, it would make everybody happier if they knew the consequences BEFORE making the trip, and also if they MUST go below 0.5 at that age (like I did in the tutorial missions), they should know how to use the map filters to determine if it's 'safe' or not. I had to wait 3 days for the 0.4 system that the tutorial sent me to, to clear out in terms of PvP activity.
If anything, those 2 things are a must in terms of teaching the newbies, although the second one could just be included in Aura's Tutorial.

I have been playing for all of 22 days so perhaps I can help.
The tutorial was wonderful. I doubt I could have played without it. Still, the hardest area for me to understand is the map. I can now do a couple of things with it but there is obviously so much I do not know. I still have no idea how to discover security levels of systems and must keep a seperate list of the area I am in.
I think a video with screen shots large enough to see and with explanations would be a major help. I would want two parts; one the simple stuff to get you used to it and the second more detailed info that a player could come back to along with why different features are used.

I would create several hilarious situations of noobs attacking stations, gates, and other players in high sec, and getting completely annihilated by concord. Kind of a goofus and gallant thing, because you really can't understand concord until you see it.

I think you really need a video to show the scope of the EVE universe. For example, the video would show zooming out all the way to the map, and then showing the empire factions, and then zooming out farther, and showing all the player owned space, and who controls it (like the eve territorial maps). That way people can really understand how big the EVE universe is.
When I was just doing the tutorial, oh a year and a half ago, it took me half a week to realize there were more than just a few systems you could warp around in. -no sig :( |

Unless theres been major changes in the tutorial recently theres not really anything about clones and podding. How about a sort of montage of short video clips showing what happens when you get podded, and a brief discussion of how the stuff all works. _________________ [SAK] Alumnus--And Proud Of It! -- aka Cpt Bogus Is that my torped sig cloaking your base?

hi i'm a new player in this game and i think it is great but my computer can only handle the game for a short time before getting overwhelmed. I have played many games and the first thing i look for is the when where and how.. when do i get stuff where do i get stuff and how. when i lvl up where i lvl up and how to lvl up... same with money and so on. the starter tutorial was great. i think you should add a bit more to it and put that on as your video tutorial. the lady <tutorial thing that was in the game> could talk and show pic and video of how to when to and where to. drones was a miss for me tho... i love drones <ima soon to be in a carrier... give me about a month or 2...> the tutorial did not get into drones at all. a lot i found out with trial and error and there is still a lot i don't know about the little buggers. thems my 2 creds...... hay... smiles

the best tutorial you can put for new players that will have a significant effect in the EVE community is to make sure that they know the pros and con of each class up front...and also advocate the industral class...players discover the benefit of that class too little too late...
and please....teach them how to properly fly a a tech one frig..I mean come on...Ok ...yeah yeah..you need a math and logic genious geek to get a clue in eve...but this is rediculious...even the vets can't pvp ina Tech one frig properly.

Have a video that explains how the market is works exactly. Explain how a buy order actually works, for example you don't purchase from the exact order you select, if there is multiple orders at the same station.
Explain that putting sell orders is NOT a good way to transfer goods, I can't even count the number of topics I have read because some fool thinks its a good ideal to place an item for 10 million isk and ends up not paying himself that money.

The place that i was lost on during the Training time of my character was Using AutoPilot.
I was confused that i could set my destination using the station i wanted to travel to, yet the auto pilot only took you as far as the system gate and jumps.
Arriving in system my auto pilot disengaged leaving my in space at the jump gate .confused and unaware of why i stopped without arriving where i wanted to be and actually then how to fly on to the station i wanted to arrive at.
