Although i think a vid is a great idea there is simply so much to include that the vid could be a week long. On that note how to decide what is important and what is not is totally determined by what type of player the new pilot wishes to be. Maybe split the videos into different cattergories depending on the career path the player wants to take?? And having an additional generic video containing the necessities.

those goonfleet 101s were nice (youtube it)
basic navigation ( find xxx(xxx=agent, clonestation, whatever) , set waypoints , bookmarks ) basic mining basic production/invention basic market (those new guys doin 15jumps to get a small pulse laser are nice :o )
small weapon guide - the huge mass of weapons and mods is just overwhelming at the beginning and you rly have no idea which weapons and/or mods to fit ( pulse or beam? assault or standard launcher? etcetc)
so , too - basic fitting ( so that people know if they shld fit armor reppers or shieldboosters fx - saw many new players loosing their ships cause they had no reppers/boosters fitted)

The vedio should include exploration and using probes.

How to find agents that coincide with what direction your character is going in i.e. mining, combat etc.
It's explained somewhat but not very well.

I have been on and off, EVE for 2 years.OK, I saw a lot of good, ideas, how about..A vid tut on the hardest thing to understand for a new person...the Skill Tree they hear a lot about it, from everybody. But they all have their own ideas, and it gets confusing. Some say learn EVERYTHING, other say, only what you need for your character. A vid showing how to study correctly depending on your characters career would be invaliable.

Quote: We'd like to hear opinions from people in different stages of their EVE existance, both new and veteran players. Please post approximately how long you've played EVE together with your opinion of what we should have in the video tutorial.
Ofcourse, video suggestions starting from step 1.
For example, a 'what to do next' series, very very important:
~A player in a starter ship chosing his level 1 agent and explaining WHY he made the choice, examples of starting fittings and such.
~A a player in a frig or destroyer going to 0.5 or 0.4 to hunt for phat loot explaining why he's going there, how the phat loot looks like, why he chose the system how he killed the phat loot bearer and/or why he just died to a player.
~A player going to lowsec to mine, explaining how ( in his own words ) he got in his cruiser / destroyer, why he's mining whatever he is mining ( ninja or not ) , why he died to that pirate while he was speaking in a mic and ofcourse the same scene where he survives because of clever tactics.
~A player laying waste to a level 4 mission in his HAC explaining how it's all possible with just a small ship, describing why he chose the modules he's fitted with and how all the bonuses from skills modules implants and the ship mingle together.
~A player successfully pirating in a cruiser/destroyer/frig explaining what are the ups and downs of the profession, the common modules used in solo pirating so on and so forth.
~Two players working together to find off the map sites in the same constelation, explaining how, what are the tools ( scanners probes and such ) what to look for and what to stay clear of.
~Station trading tutorial, this is imperative.
This can go on and on but the bottom line is this game needs a 'what to do next' tutorial with ample suggestions that include every step of the way whith level of sp's to suggest the newbies at what to look for.

Originally by: Bruno Bonner Ok first, NO VIDEO, seriously, what are you aiming for a 45mb file?? no way a new player is going to download that just to learn stuff.
These should be bundled in an addon of the game that can update itself with p2p sharing methods like blizz does for it's movies/patches/whatever, this could also be turned on / off when the download process interferes with the user (sleep, computer going offline) without later damage to the addon containing videos.
Veterans can turn it off, newbies have a well of wisdom to drink from, win ? - Arkanon: EXPLAIN YOURSELF, EVILDOER! Sharkbait: Dude.
