What is the weapon system the jove use? i am geussing it has a high high cap usage considering the base recharge rate on the eidalon. I was wondering if anybody had this information?

yeah, personally, i was thinking a mix between particle weapons and lasers, something unique and powerful. it has to be significant from the storys of jove crusiers taking out amarrian fleets.

My guess is that they use T5 lasers, T5 hybrids, T5 projectiles and/or T5 missiles, naturally they back this upp with T5 drones.
While it is very possible that they also have acess to their own nifty turret type I very much doubt they would bring them out unless they REALLY need it :)

The actual jove as portrayed in various chronicles do not exist yet and will most likely never exist. I mean, come on, they are a t5 culture, and after 4 years T2 isn't completely implemented yet! So unless TQ stays live for another 10 years (which given a new game engine and continued support and advertising isn't entirely unfeasonable.), none of us will ever see Jove, or their weapons...
Unless it's like for some jump drive test in which they blow themselves up, or some generic event that involves entire fleet shooting a single bships that has no real issues tanking them all O.o

The ships in the database was using lasers and missiles. The background stories suggests lasers. The devs playing jove in events were most busy using /heal...
But it remains to be seen if some new weapon type will be introduced in the game if the jove is ever released. Am I forced to have any regret? I've become the lie, beautiful and free In my righteous own mind I adore and preach the insanity you gave to me |

SQL UPDATE statements would be my guess.

In all seriousness though, my guess would indeed be particle cannons of some kind. It really would be like lasers that could deal kinetic damage. This is purely nerd speculation, but I imagine that if you could create some kind of energy torpedo with a specific rate of falloff after which the contained energy would be violently released (or via impact with something relatively solid), you'd have the approximate equivalent of an energy-based explosive shaped charge.

"Particle-beam weapons are devices that accelerate subatomic particles or atoms to velocities near the speed of light, focused into a narrow stream. The energy of the weapon is the aggregate kinetic energy of the individual particles forming the beam. A lightning bolt, a flow of electrons, is similar to a particle beam. For those still keeping up with these weapons, there are two general types, classified by their use: charged particle-beam weapons (endoatmospheric use) and neutral particle-beam weapons (exoatmospheric use)."
aka the ghostbuster gun, only the Jove are not afraid to cross the beams.

Edited by: Ishina Fel on 29/07/2007 02:39:35 In Master of Orion 2, the Antarans owned stuff with particle beams. Native shield piercing and the highest damaging 'allround' weapon available in the game, with just about all possible weapon mods allowed. Not quite as damaging as the stellar converter, but then again that weapon was so large you built your ships around the cannon The player wasn't even allowed to research particle beams - you had to be lucky with the random secret techs draw after conquering Orion.
Ever since, particle weapons have held a special place of "o shi-" in my mind. Because they really owned that much. I'm all for Jovian particle cannons!
It should be noted though that there's already a faction employing particle weapons as their main weapon system: the Gallente! Check out the descriptions on some of the blasters sometime...

Yes the gallente use blasters, i do not want to bring star trek into this since it is eve, but it is said that in their universe blasters were the low grade particle weapons that they used along with plasma weapons until they discovered phasers, but the jove like star trek, i am geussing would have an advanced particle weapon like the one mentioned in a earlier reply that concentrates them into a beam. i believ something along those lines. In the chronicle vak'atioth, the weapon the jove mothership uses seems to be exactly that.

Fun speculating, eh?
I can think of three -
Total conversion devices (just point and convert a sizeable fraction of your opponent's hull to AM)
Information backchannel alteration devices (there's a theory that says the universe runs on information - if you found a way to hack the universe - to tell things that they are something other than what they were...)
String theory based devices (a cosmic string would be a useful tool and a very nasty weapon, in theory)

oh please none of that junk the Empire can deploy forces across the galaxy in days or weeks an advanced federation ship takes 80 years, they generate more power in a single shot from the death star than whole fleets of starships do than the entire starfleet does in its life, get over it the star wars universe is technologically superior save in recreational technologies, but that does not mean that as a fiction its superior
and on topic, ive always rather assumed that an advanced politic would use directional gamma ray bursts, its a light speed weapon so you dont see it coming and its a butt load of energy, especially if its a phase coherent beam like a laser, invisible to an external observer in a vacuum assuming that observer had the capability to detect it (like a laser should be, more evidence that eve lasers arent traditional lasers just a device with the same name)
i also think somthing along the lines of a shield and armour puncturing torpedo's, we know that whilst in a warp tunnel an object can pass through anything so if the jove fire a torpedo capable of generating its own warp field accuratly enougth the torpedo can re-emerge inside a ship and go boom, somthing i assume to be in there capabilities given the pod has a warp drive.

The cap use could be for the containment system needed to store/direct the enormous amount of energy a zero point energy weapon would produce.

Pffff... zero-point and existence terminating weaponry is so T3.
I say that Jove shields are simply gateways to nothingness that exist around their ships, 1-way portals so all conventional weapons fire is useless. However, anything can get OUT from inside.
Jove weapons are probably much the same, simply absorbing energy from the universe to shift their targets partially into nothingness, thus crippling or destroying their ships (can't take their stuff if they go all the way into nothingness).
As to Jove drive technology, they probably just slip out of the universe and back into the universe at any point they desire.

Wow, no Trek heads around here? I believe blasters aren't any weaker than phasers. I think the federation liked phasers better because they are more precise and versatile. Blasters have one setting: kill to death Phaser have a bunch of settings: sting, really sting, make hurty, being really really hurty, ouch im gonna pass out, ouch im gonna pass out even though im like really tough, ouch im a robot and you made me pass out too, killalize, killalize robots or super crazy dudes, killalize everthing in the room, make metal glow or make rocks fall.
oh please none of that junk the Empire can deploy forces across the galaxy in days or weeks an advanced federation ship takes 80 years, they generate more power in a single shot from the death star than whole fleets of starships do than the entire starfleet does in its life, get over it the star wars universe is technologically superior save in recreational technologies, but that does not mean that as a fiction its superior
What is going on here? I see Star Trek and then out of nowhere someone talking about Star Wars?

not really, neutrinos pass through matter at near the speed of light without collision, even through incredibly dense matter, yes im a nerd, but lets have some serious answers lol.
Actaully, neutrinos can collide with matter, it is just very uncommon.

Edited by: Lysit Kaune on 29/07/2007 19:11:24 Jove weapons do no physical damage, they send pulses of energy that cause vibrations on the targets hull, but can have there basic frequency modulation changed on the fly as to bypass shields. This is done with the intention of forcing audio to reverberate off every surface within the ship, including its crew, making it impossible to block the audio out. During the brief and destructive battle with the Amarr the Jovian commander sought to destroy the Amarrian fleet as fast as possible as to try and force them to route. Each ship fired volly after volly of the Spice Girls into the Amarrians, forcing them to self destruct and fire upon there comrades to escape the hellish attacks.
The Jovian commander was later judged in an official capacity by a select group of peers and excuted for war crimes.

Check out the descriptions on some of the blasters sometime...

ok, done derailing the thread. continue....
tbh, i think a 5th damage type would be a pain in the ass if they ever release them. they are likely just super, overheated, uber lasers? thats what backstory would have me believe

If you read the story, they said the joves were using adavanced lasers, but then it said out of nowhere the jove mothership started firing some kind of energy canon that was unknown (hence the apoc getting pwned in your pic). so it is known the jove's do use lasers as well, but that pic is not a laser and i belive it is their true might and power. gallente is better then caldari and kirk is better then picard and tyrrax is a noob.

östarted firing some kind of energy canon that was unknownö I read that as the energy weapon was unknown in that it was an Xlarge turret or Doomsday style shot on Mothership. Back then the largest known energy weapon was a large turret on a battleship. Motherships where never heard of before then and Xlarge turrets on them where unknown weapons.

I like the idea of a singularity creator. They create a singularity at the surfacce of the opponents ship, with the other "end" of the singularity within the feed for their Mr fusion. So the more of your ship that gets consumed the more singularities they can create. like to see what would happen to titan...

I reckon they use Lasers, like the Amarr, but they have added "Time-Corrosion" particles that accelerate the natural decay of anything it hits by 8 Billion years therefore technically removing it from the battlefield.
Or, I could just be talking nonsense again. Yes, thats probally it.
