Originally by: Jack Rowanburn I have just lost my Ibis, please reimburse me for this. I had 5 Rorqual BPO's in the cargo hold and I want to be reimbursed for this. I will go outside and cry like a 2 year old baby if you do not do this. As i do not realise that the subscription I pay not only pays for the game time I have but also your wages to fix problems when they occur, I think you should give everyone a refund and 10 months free play time. I also feel that a response time of under 10 minutes to start fixing the problem is unnaceptable, even though the industry standard for mission critical systems is 2-4 Hours.
/Sarcasm off
I work for a company that provides services for third parties. We have scheduled downtimes where we can do what we like, but should any "unscheduled downtime" happen, they won't settle for a "industry standard is 2-4 hours" they will fine us if we have too much downtime and they can freely terminate the contract should even small outages occur too frequently.
Wish I worked in the "industry standard" you speak of.
We get nothing back because it's part of the agreement we signed for when downloading the game, doesn't mean we should sit quietly and take the broom handle.
Maybe I should clarify, thats 2-4 hours for a fix and get back up, not to get there and start looking. Any company that believes you should be able to get there, find a problem AND fix it inside a "nondescript" timeframe needs to be told how things work, or maybe they should pay for a backup systme like any reputable company would ------------- Freedom is the right of all sentient species - Optimus Prime |

that's the most worrying thing i have heard so far - "there has been some crash dumps created from the Server process it's self and they have been sent to microsoft."
no wonder the servers are crashing all the time if you're running win98 (probably not even SE)

Originally by: orangeFool It would be great if everyones subscriptions were put on hold when the server went down unexpectedly.
Yes, but if they did that it should be put in the eula under the bit where they take more money off you for every time the servers came back up early. You'd be out of pocket if they implemented that one. Maybe they should charge you for every expansion ala WoW too. ------------- Freedom is the right of all sentient species - Optimus Prime |

x2. stop being Microsoft's *****.
But remember Oracles licence pricing policy. It goes like this :
1) upturn client, hold by ankles and shake to see how much money falls out of their pockets. Take it all. 2) Attach high powered vaccum cleaner to clients corporate account.
Pretty similar to SAPs pricing policy. Except with SAP they also install ludicrously over paid consultants permanently into your company thereby sucking your payroll budget dry also.
As unstable as Sqlserver can be, until Oracle sort out their attitude (as in get a grip on reality) no games company is going to go near them.

OK, I work in IT. I understand that servers go down. It happens.
My question: How often does this happen? I have been playing for two days - if this is a regular thing, they can blow it out of their arse. At least war***** is more stable.... (waits for flames)

By the chat on here I assume the server just went down. I was in the middle of enemies abound when I got a weird freeze with sound but no movement then I got d/c. As I wasn't shield boosting at the time, I assume my T2 raven with rigs is toast. What's the standard CCP position on this type of thing. Any chance of getting back the 300m+ I presumably just lost?
Tsu
If the server went down cleanly, your ship will still be there. If the connections went some time before the server really went down, your ship might be dead. In that case you can petition it, and may get back everything destroyed in a few weeks time. You'll not get back stuff that wasn't destroyed (ie. dropped in the wreck). The wreck will not be there when the server comes back up either.

Not often, don't let all the flames here dissuade you, EvE is an ecxellent game gamepley wise and although is has problems occasionally, it still isn't up to the level of crap that we had to put up with when i played WoW. ------------- Freedom is the right of all sentient species - Optimus Prime |

You'd get ride like this maybe once per month, not more often. Patch days are worst, but now its strange cuz there haven't been patch lately.
