ôWar is not the dreadful end to all things as mankind fears. Conflict brings balance to nature as it adapts, mutates, and transforms itself into something stronger than before. Mankind is the master of nature because we can choose those mutations on our own accord. We can accelerate the inevitable dominance of a species. Through war, we can make ourselves stronger at the time and place of our choosing. War is not hell, far from it. War is beautiful. War is divine.ö - Grand Admiral Mekioth Sarum, excerpt from a commencement speech to Paladin graduates of the Imperial Academy, 23215 AD |

My question: How often does this happen? I have been playing for two days - if this is a regular thing, they can blow it out of their arse. At least war***** is more stable.... (waits for flames)
Tony
Depends on how much you play really, and when. For me, it's about once or twice a week or so.

I saw at one point that "TQ is working on all cylinders." I think that might be part of the problem. Cylinders don't belong in a server. They're heavy, they get hot, and Oh God the oil goes everywhere. That's what causes all the downtime. Cleaning all the oil out of the nooks and crannies in the mobos.

Oil is not in itself bad for computers.... http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/01/09/strip_out_the_fans/ http://www.pugetsystems.com/submerged.php http://russellware.com/liquidpc/

Haha Awesome. However keep in mind what happens when hot mineral oil mixes with the voltages.
Motor oil, especially used motor oil, would have to be bad for a mobo I'd imagine. All those esters and ethers and friction modifiers and percolators and such.

Originally by: CCP Explorer At 12:08 today, shortly after the startup at 11:44, Tranquility started experiencing database issues resulting in the database failing over to the secondary server.
Continuing the report: Tranquility was back up at 13:13. Then at 13:39 we had a similar incident and Tranquility was back up at 14:10. Tranquility is being closely monitored by our system administrators.
We now have two crash dumps of this problem that Microsoft will analyse. The crash dumps have already been sent and the severity status of the ticket we have with Microsoft has been elevated.

Originally by: CCP Explorer the good good news is that we finally have a crash dump of this problem that Microsoft can now analyse.
Unforunatly, no memory dump was created for these latest crashes as we only had the trace flag set to the same failover error's we were experiecing prior to the new hardware upgrade.
The problems encountered today are new problems that did not generate the dump, the server is now configured to generate a dump for any error but what this means is Microsoft wont know for sure what the problem is until it crashes 1 more time.
We do believe we know what has caused these new errors and have addressed them to prevent them but we wont know for sure until it happens again.
We did submit the normal SQL error logs that Microsoft reviewed and had us implement fixes for but without the detailed memory dumps we dont know for certain if we have indeed resolved the issue.

Haha, wonderful. So there is no upside to it in the end, as it was to be expected. Will CCP ever do a diversified customer satisfaction survey? Will it include the question: "How satisfied are you with our service delivery/reliability?"

A customer satisfaction survey for eve would be about as pointless as asking a group of 5th graders if they are satisfied with going to school instead of lazing at home playing nintendo..
