So, like a trusty EVE-Mon user, I see TQ going up a long time before "regular schedule", I login, everything's fine... until "normal uptime", when things start to get laggier, and laggier, then disconnect, then "number 160 in queue", then "proxy not connected".
There, I hope you're happy with yourselves... massively logging in as soon as you THINK the server's up instead of gradually when the server's actually up broke it.
Oh, and the forums too, kind of. I hope I haven't just posted the same post several times.

Because it's easier to find and pinpoint bugs when there's 30,000 logged in rather than just 5 devs? Dunno, just a wild guess.

If the servers can't handle it then the devs should build in a queue to prevent post-maintenance flooding. It ain't rocket science.

I'm sure that with 20,000 disgruntled EVE players all trying to access the same images, they're going to load a bit slow. But yes, I'm getting some loaded and others not, and the page is not going to completed status, its always trying to finish loading the leftover images.

It's only 12:25am here in NZ, it's not even midnight Saturday in Australia.
I'm quite glad I've got another few episodes of The Wire and a half dozen beers to keep me company till TQ comes back up (I assume the extended DT is an unintended consequence of the Constellation Sovereignty attempted fix, though that could just be a coincidence.)

It's not unusual to be loved by anyone It's not unusual to have fun with anyone but when I see you hanging about with anyone It's not unusual to see me cry, oh I wanna' die It's not unusual to go out at any time but when I see you out and about it's such a crime if you should ever want to be loved by anyone, It's not unusual it happens every day no matter what you say you find it happens all the time love will never do what you want it to why can't this crazy love be mine It's not unusual, to be mad with anyone It's not unusual, to be sad with anyone but if I ever find that you've changed at anytime it's not unusual to find out that I'm in love with you whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh

Why does CCP hate Australia?
It's intersting, but I haven't noticed the usual deluge of "OMH CCP U SUX I R CANCELIN MI 17 ACKOWNTS!!" posts. Or maybe I just got so used to seeing the same threats from the same people week after week during every little unscheduled downtime that now they don't even register in my consciousness anymore.

No what you don't understand is that CCP deviously plan all these down times to make extra money. It's true, they really don't want us to play their game because we tax the system which costs them money. Every time the server goes down unannounced kieron and Oveur can afford another bottle of vegetable oil to slap onto t20 while the entire workforce at CCP chase him around with paddles, it's part of his punishment for the t2 bpo thing. Why vegetable oil? Well with all the money they save on server downtimes, what else are they going to spend it on?

I believe EVE is the largest, non-instanced/sharded server to date. So I think we can let them have 1 hour. Remember they are doing things across a larger area than any other server currently in existance, if this is all true. If not, then I'd like to know too

Shouldn't the failover to the secondary server, you know, keep the stuff running? Otherwise, what's the point of having failover hardware?
failover hardware != performance hardware... if you see that eve now has 3 ramsams, it's a bit stupid to have a second cluster with ramsams not being used 99,9% of the time. Probably fallover, as in, no transactions get lost, no money gets lost... etc..

If Microsoft were serious about the problem, they would have fixed this joke of a product ages ago. Instead it's the usual "you bought it, now you're stuck with it" customer support, until a new version comes along at which point it's "we think this problem may have magically fixed itself in this new version, why don't you try purchasing an upgrade? Oh btw, we made sure this only works with vista so you'll need to buy that too". Until that time those dumps are forwarded to a guy named Milton in the basement, who glances at them, randomly changes something in the code, then waits 3 months for the change to migrate up the version control system braches to the release version, after which it's send to customers for QA labeled as a patch.

If the service is no longer available, failover has "failed". The cluster didn't just get slower, it died. You use failover hardware to keep (even a rudimentary) service up.

Yes. You are a fool for doing things after the server is back up. You should instead do nothing and perhaps place your thumb up your behind and tell other people they should also do nothing.
You could, well, I dunno, you know maybe wait 10 minutes? Sort out your loot or have a look at the loyalty shop or knock one out or something.

By the chat on here I assume the server just went down. I was in the middle of enemies abound when I got a weird freeze with sound but no movement then I got d/c. As I wasn't shield boosting at the time, I assume my T2 raven with rigs is toast. What's the standard CCP position on this type of thing. Any chance of getting back the 300m+ I presumably just lost?

I work for a company that provides services for third parties. We have scheduled downtimes where we can do what we like, but should any "unscheduled downtime" happen, they won't settle for a "industry standard is 2-4 hours" they will fine us if we have too much downtime and they can freely terminate the contract should even small outages occur too frequently.
Wish I worked in the "industry standard" you speak of.
We get nothing back because it's part of the agreement we signed for when downloading the game, doesn't mean we should sit quietly and take the broom handle.

As i do not realise that the subscription I pay not only pays for the game time I have but also your wages to fix problems when they occur, I think you should give everyone a refund and 10 months free play time. I also feel that a response time of under 10 minutes to start fixing the problem is unnaceptable, even though the industry standard for mission critical systems is 2-4 Hours.
/Sarcasm off
I work for a company that provides services for third parties.
Maybe I should clarify, thats 2-4 hours for a fix and get back up, not to get there and start looking. Any company that believes you should be able to get there, find a problem AND fix it inside a "nondescript" timeframe needs to be told how things work, or maybe they should pay for a backup systme like any reputable company would ------------- Freedom is the right of all sentient species - Optimus Prime |

Yes, but if they did that it should be put in the eula under the bit where they take more money off you for every time the servers came back up early. But remember Oracles licence pricing policy. It goes like this :
1) upturn client, hold by ankles and shake to see how much money falls out of their pockets. Take it all. 2) Attach high powered vaccum cleaner to clients corporate account.
Pretty similar to SAPs pricing policy. Except with SAP they also install ludicrously over paid consultants permanently into your company thereby sucking your payroll budget dry also.
As unstable as Sqlserver can be, until Oracle sort out their attitude (as in get a grip on reality) no games company is going to go near them.

If the server went down cleanly, your ship will still be there. If the connections went some time before the server really went down, your ship might be dead. In that case you can petition it, and may get back everything destroyed in a few weeks time. You'll not get back stuff that wasn't destroyed (ie. dropped in the wreck). The wreck will not be there when the server comes back up either.

Originally by: CCP Explorer the good good news is that we finally have a crash dump of this problem that Microsoft can now analyse.
Unforunatly, no memory dump was created for these latest crashes as we only had the trace flag set to the same failover error's we were experiecing prior to the new hardware upgrade.
The problems encountered today are new problems that did not generate the dump, the server is now configured to generate a dump for any error but what this means is Microsoft wont know for sure what the problem is until it crashes 1 more time.
We do believe we know what has caused these new errors and have addressed them to prevent them but we wont know for sure until it happens again.
We did submit the normal SQL error logs that Microsoft reviewed and had us implement fixes for but without the detailed memory dumps we dont know for certain if we have indeed resolved the issue.

Haha, wonderful. So there is no upside to it in the end, as it was to be expected. Will CCP ever do a diversified customer satisfaction survey? Will it include the question: "How satisfied are you with our service delivery/reliability?"

A customer satisfaction survey for eve would be about as pointless as asking a group of 5th graders if they are satisfied with going to school instead of lazing at home playing nintendo..

How come we get pointed to yesterdays thread for todays issues?
I know I don't want to read through 12 pages to get an answer on what's going on, etc, etc... The OP hasn't even been updated with ANYTHING at all - so really not helpful is it?

Since today's crash, my client gets stuck at "Aquiring Bulk Data" until it times out without logging in.
My heart sunk when I saw the threadnaught in the Ignored Issues forum.
So, now I can't play til this gets fixed apparently.

When I log in the chat windows take alot longer to come up, and I was trying to change my bio but that seams to be very messed up, wont do anything I want it to and it seams like I can only fit maybe 1/4 of the lines I use to be able to get into my bio, and when ever I think I finally have it the way I want I close my character sheet right click my ship click on my pic to see what it looks like and its all borked again, larger text than I wanted, lines missing at the end.

You mean Micrososft is a real company with support desks and all? They actually support their bug ridden garbage?
Every time I have ever tried to get support for M$ software, I'm pointed to a third party support desk with little knowledge of the coding problems causing the error. On top of that, I have to pay extra for it.

OK, I tried reinstalling the Eve client and that hasn't addressed this issue. The client still hangs at "Aquiring bulk data" and then loses connection after about five minutes.
I contacted my ISP, who said there are no problems with the network today.
I don't use a wireless router, I use a USB ADSL modem.
I was able to log in fine at 3am this morning.
So the problem is at CCP's end and can someone fix it please?

This problem is actually on your end, try deleting all you cache. (It doesn't get cleaned out anymore with an reinstall) C:\Documents and Settings\[username goes here]\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE And delete the entire cache folder

I have completely removed all eve cache folders, which has made no difference.
I am also using the "/end /LUA:OFF" switch to prevent the cache from being stored under "documents and settings".
Also, when you tell people to delete their cache folder, you should mention to them to hold onto their "Settings" folder, otherwise they'll have the PITA of reorganising their contacts, bm's and market quickbar.

This could be part of your problem. USB makes for a terrible way to use any sort of broadband connection. Try using Ethernet cables to connect your modem instead of usb. -------------------------- Official VnV ocd forum resident :) Victory not Vengeance [VnV] Proud member of Intrepid Crossing [IRC]

I could try that and it might help with general connection quality but I don't see how my USB connection could be magically making this problem appear. I have no problem accessing other web services.
Given that my system has not changed substantially since this morning and my network is fine, the fault appears to be with the server. It is affecting users with a wide range of connection setups, in any case, as you can read if you check that thread I linked above.

Fair enough.
Anyway, I still tried deleting the cache and I'm getting nowhere. Haven't been able to log in since DT today.

make one wonder if they stop using microsofts products maybe this stuff wouldn't happen.
maybe the conspiracy theory of microsoft is actually correct. that they purposly design isues into thier software that eventually fix thru buying a new version of hat product. but the new version of tht product that finnaly addresses the issue.is designed with new ones. keepping a people in a loop having to give more money to microsoft.
