Until contracts can encompass all aspects of what the sell order section of these forums provide please do not close them. I think you severely underestimate player reaction to its closure and still do.

The contract system needs some big changes before they can replace the current forum. ------

I really hope you'll take this feedback and do something about the contract system. The old escrow was great because you could get a huge list and browse for items and look for deals. This is almost impossible with contracts because they take so much more space for each item, the list is far too short, and they are loaded in a strange way without any good sorting.
Also the search could be done SO much better. Why do we have to search for a specific item? Why can't I write "Shadow serpentis" in the search box to list all matching items? Half the fun of shopping is looking for good deals, but that becomes a chore when you have to look through every goddamn individual item by itself.
The list of the faults with the contracts system could make a very long post, but at least to my eyes it seems to be one of the easier parts of Eve to improve, and it could add soooo much to the game.

Thank You!
I love this game but the decision to remove the trade forums took a large lump out of the experiance which for me is Eve.
My main joy in the trade forums is brousing them out of game - when I have the ability to get in game I prefere to go Pew Pew rather than brouse the contracts.
Many Thanks again for reversing this decision

This is actually not too big a problem, and could be accepted since it's only once....
Much more problematic is not being able to bid and re-bid from afar, since you may have to do this multiple times.....

As said before (see original thread) it's OK to close them in the future if you give us ALL the functionality that we require. I believe 25 pages of feedback (not all usefull) can get you started. Make sure services (lab slots, Ventrillo/TS renting, IG website creations, IPO's, BPC copying etc...) can be offered in contracts or some other place.
If we can run around in station in the future, make it possible to rent an office where we can offer the above mentioned stuff and let us make publicity in stations and in space :-)

I hate the Market forum - it is unwieldy, amateurish and awkward to use, and I am glad it is closing.
The in-game systems need a bit of improving, but are much nicer to use

o and while at it, I'm wondering, why don't you put all faction, storyline and other exotic items not in the market. This would immediately solve the problem of not having history on prices for these items. Contracts can't solve all these problems. But I believe the Market and Contracts together could solve most of them.

OOG forums provide region-free trading that is *at best* only clumsily provided for by the in-game Eve trading system.
I hate the current contract system, since it takes *forever* to specify the items I want, and then I have to look for the next item I want, etc. etc ad nauseum. Terriblely slow and non-intuitive interface, tbh. Whatever happened to wildcards in specific searches, guys? You know, like most searchable DB's have? Maybe I want to look for ALL Core-x items in an module area without relying on shoddy 'description' searches?
The sell forum allows me to browse much more quickly and comprehensively. If you are set on closing the OOG access, inquire first why so many people are annoyed at the proposed closure; hint: it offers a lower-hassle way of finding/buying system than the limiting and clumsy in-game system you forced on us. Try listening to your customers on this issue, it might be illuminating

Ahhh, what did I say! Changes to contract systems in pipelines!!!
Pity that of the 25 pages of whining/bellyaching there is maybe 5% of posts with anything useful in terms of suggested improvements etc. Its times like these that you see the snall (maybe 500 players?) percentage of total players that resist change with no _REAL_ reason, other than they can't understand (or be bothered to understand) a system in-game, which is getting some improvements.
It really was depressing to read those 25 pages of whinging, with only a few players actually looking forward to better things- you should all be ashamed of yourselves. Would you treat people/businesses like that in real life? If so, I hope I never have the displeasure of doing it with you...
Ari
P.S: My favourite theme from the pages, which sums up some peoples attitudes: I can't browse from Work!!! You really need to turn EVE off for a bit and enjoy the beautiful world a little

Good decision CCP,
The day you dont see feedback from the community on matters like this, is the day they stopped caring. I am partly glad to see that despite all the negative atmosphere lately, ppl still care alot about this game, and that CCP still listens to their playerbase, but i am also sadden to see that these forum wars seems to be the only way we can communicate with CCP.
I would advice CCP to hire another Community manager, with perhaps more experience at avoiding the kind of negative reactions we have just witnessed yesterday. You can only do this soo many time before ppl pack-up and leave. join channel "Profit".

CCP thank you for listening to your paying customers and having the bottle to admit you made a mistake. I'm looking forward to a functionally rich in-game contract and services system, however I believe that the web-based forum should still exist in some form.
Cheers, Arrs

Are there plans to let people do contract searches via the API?
Come to think of it, this deserves a topic in the Game Development Forum...

... so... bloody... /signed....
It is so utterly annoying that there are large number of common items for which you don't have the sales statistics. Faction items, Officer items, Cosmos items, Implants, Drugs etc. etc. Effectively, it makes it impossible to put a price on these items. You more or less have to trade blind.
So, add all standard items (this include officer/faction/cosmos items, all implants, drugs, mission items etc.) to the market, and leave the contract system for Auctions (and make those usable first, please, i.e. with proper time announcements, sniper rules, different auction forms, specifiable minimum increments, no minimum price etc.), Package deals, non-standard items like BPC's and rigged ships, Courier contracts etc.
Another thing you need to put in is a flag so we can exclude 'buy' contracts from search results. 90% or so of 'buy' contracts are scams anyway.....

Why bother doing it in the first place though?
Does it really matter if people arrange their sales on the forums or through the in game mechanics? Is it that much of a burden on the forum servers that people have the cheek to try and use the forums for game related stuff?
Sheer folly.

thanks CCP for keeping the trade forums open!
how much i'd like every item to be on the market screen i can foresee some trouble in this as well. there are tons of items in EVE and it would really clutter the market interface. it's hard enough with some of it's bugs already (the reseting of the index on the left side i.e. although). a;though it is a viable option imo. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
