Ah, maybe. I don't know the OP, but maybe it was an attempt to interject a little eve-o humor to a somber occasion. The kind of thing that happens at wakes, ya' know.
People deal with death, particularly of someone in a close knit community like eve in funny ways. Its sometimes hard to come to grips with certain things, like people die, and nobody gets out alive.
Then again, maybe he IS just an asshat of the highest order.

Did'nt know him, never `met' him but enjoyed his regular forum posts /replies. Condolences to his family, friends and Veto.
Oh, and to those who feel it is the thing to do to make `funny' remarks at times like this, I hope people note your names and pod you back into the stone age on a regular basis.

My sincere condolences to DE's family and friends and Veto.
I never knew the man in game, but at work I love to lurk on the forums and I really did enjoy his posts, I feel we had a very similar mindset.
As a memorial I think it would be cool if all his friends in game got together in tech I frigs and just had a fine free for all in his honour.

Just got the word that a truly awesome friend and mentor in this game and out of it pasted away. I don't think there are any words that can describe how much DarkElf will be missed by those of us that loved him dearly and those that loved to hate him in game. He was awesomely funny and had a heart of gold the size of the moon, who would do anything in game or out for a friend. My best wishes and prayers go out to his family. But even in this trajedy, those of us who knew him best and were lucky enough to have him call us his friends will always have the memories.

I have been away from the game for almost a month now, when my cell rang at work. I didn't know what to say then and I have even less of an idea what to say now.
I knew Dark for almost 3 years. We fought along side each other, against each other. No matter where we found ourselves in the game we never let it affect our friendship.
I know that he wouldn't have wanted so much sadness at his loss. He wasn't that type. No matter how bad things got he would always poor another drink, have another laugh.
If you knew Dark, share one of the many crazy events you found yourself in flying by his side. Remember him with a laugh and a smile.
The irony is that we actually had the opportunity to talk about what we would want/do if one or the other passed away. Many years ago when we were in OOTSS one of our corp members passed away. It was much less sudden, he had a long term terminal illness (so we all knew it would happen eventually). Dark named his Archon after the pilot because we said we would before he passed.
I never really imagined I would be posting in this thread. I won't say goodbye because I would like to think maybe our paths will cross again at some point in time.
Fly safe until then Dark.

To the family and friends of DE/Paul, I am truly sorry for your loss.
Often, words and platitudes can seem rather empty at this time of grief, but I hope that you will take comfort in knowing that Paul touched many lives, and made each one of them a little bit better than it was before.
Although many of those expressing messages of sympathy may be a very long way away, they are also right next to you, as I'm sure Paul is now.
Take care, and may your family, friends, and faith help you through this most difficult time.

Like Nik said, we should share stories about him. I have a Ts recording of alot of us when we were in AIL together. But I have no idea where I can post it on the internet to share it with everyone who knew him. If anyone can point in the direction of someplace to upload it and link it I am sure it will bring a smile to your faces and more than a laugh or two while listening. And listening to it, we'll all get to here those infamous words of his 'Helllooo budddieee' one more time :)

The shower can be a killer, I had a friends dad die in the shower also, don't shock the body with extreme temperatures. His dad went into the shower after a sauna session.

DarkElf is probably one of the most prominent and friendly guys in Veto. He was always a blast to have a Vent and he would help his friends out when they needed it most.
Paul, your memory will live on and you'll always be remembered fondly by Veto.

I don't know what to say. It's just shocking and horrible to lose someone so unexpectedly at a young age like that. I always say that if I go suddenly like that to be happy that there was no suffering; I've seen plenty of it.
It was good to see you guys tearing it up in his memory tonight, and I am sure you will continue to do so.
