For those saying that crime is higher in England, it may be. But I'm damn sure fatal crimes are much lower because of the gun laws. They may be mugged, but not killed. Big difference there.
I could go on forever about how much I like England compared to the US, but I'm heavily biased. I can't be a dual citizen of the US and the UK because the US won't let me, even though they made me wait 7 years to get a green card that was actually blue.
Ironic? Yes.
I guess the question is...

I'm 18. It's kinda hard to make a life-changing decision like that at this age. Plus I'm in college right now.

Actually, it's about 28% of the voting public. That's why Bush's approval ratings have never really gone below that. Unfortunately, the majority of Americans are either ignorant, apathetic, or disenfranchised, and don't really give a damn about politics or voting.
So I would wager that those 28% of America can do no wrong 'patriots' really make maybe 10% of the US population.

The bold ones apply to me. I give a damn about politics, but my vote wouldn't really matter with such a large percentage of Americans holding the exact opposite view. If the vote at hand isn't already locked in and is something I care about, THEN I vote. Unfortunately, that's rarely the case.
I'm so freaking sick of the fundamentalists and conservatives in this country, and even the more extreme left-wingers are beginning to annoy me. I lean decidedly left, myself, but there's such a thing as taking it too far.
EDIT: To be more clear, America doesn't feel like "my" country (i.e. I feel apart from this society, rather than a part of it). I just live here. -Wrayeth n00b Extraordinaire

I'm very sick of the 2 party system. However, I'm so fundamentally opposed to what the Democratic party has to offer me, it's a no brainer on who to vote for...
Somehow, someway, I hope our political system can be reborn. I doubt though, I think we're stuck with it until this country is no more...

Edited by: Sharupak on 24/09/2007 00:59:12 Edited by: Sharupak on 24/09/2007 00:58:49 How do people feel on how the US compares to most other developed countries?
I mean, the lack of a good state heathcare system to me seems a joke....
The US (like all countries) was built with the sweat & blood of the people, isnt it a RIGHT of the people to have certain things provided by the state?
As without the countless citizens would fought and died in wars to protect the nation there would be no "great" US as so to speak.
It isnt your taxes, it isnt your presidents taxes, its the taxes of the american people...
I honestly cant think what the US has over the UK for example.
We have
Allot less crime No guns (v.rare) Better wages Free or v.low cost education National heathcare Stronger currency Far less pollution (and a much more enlightened view on the matter) We can booze @ 18 Richer history Hobos with perfect teeth Old timers in a bar that just want to bull**** with anyone all day and will buy you drinks until the bar closes
You have
Less taxes Cheaper goods Own Guns The ability to own vast stretches of land Live in vast stretches of land with no pollution Its still possible to live your life without being viewed by CCTV everywhere you go. Do it yourselfing is I think more previlant. (The redneck may not know where iraq is, but they can tell you the proper lift duration on the camshaft of an 86 camaro Better strip clubs A better shot and being insanely rich
I added some more
This is just a disscussion, im curious as to how the "average Joe" feels on the matter.
Also, tbh i dont want to hear the opinion of some guy who earns wayyy above the average US wage, cuz tbh thats the group who benifit most from the flaws of the US. _______________________________________________ RuntimeError: ChainEvent is blocking by design, but you're block trapped. The euro is gonna be stronger because it has the backing of...europe, many countries. Because most other countries people are taxed to the gills, they have much less money to buy products so the big corps over the world have to compete peddling their stuff in america.
Its kinda funny actually...if we go to nationalized healthcare and get taxed 70% of our income, there would probably be a global depression. _______________________________________________ RuntimeError: ChainEvent is blocking by design, but you're block trapped. Since I believe in minimal taxation, I prefer the US system to the European.
You really shouldn't talk about the US as one country though. Its 50 small countries and each has its own system of laws and remarkably different cultures.
