Not quite.
Alt accounts have destroyed the need for teamwork in alot of situations. People can build their own stuff, jump around the galaxy with their cap ships, and take on gangs, all on their lonesome.
Very far from amazing.

Yes an amazing ploy to sub more people because you're projecting financial trouble due to a misfortune in sub's joining vs sub's leaving compared to overheads ><

Alts have always been a destructive factor in this game. Well, destructive if you think about the game in long-term playability.
Ultimately, CCP will end up with a small percentage of Beta and Macro players that will continue to play, pay and trade ISK amongst themselves. If anyone wants to argue why that is a fun play experience, please do. From my angle, I came in to the game because it was a challenge, it wasn't a grind. It took some brains to play this game, still does. But now, it will come down to who can afford another alt, train the alt, and sell the alt for ISK or even worse, use the alt for:
"We can give you that someone. We can bring that new dimension to your life, that special fluttery moment when you realize there are now two of you going through life's hardships. Together. As a Power of 2"
Talk about pandering to n00bs but really its about giving the old-school player yet another cheap alt for six months.
Sorry, I am disturbed and no, you cannot have my stuff. This whole "stop whingin' about ****" is getting old. There are a number of "started in the last year"s that are not exploiters nor grinders that love this game and are now seeing some major flaws in CCP and their choices. Many of those flaws which are only catering to the EVE-lifers. And that is ok. But don't expect CCP to retain a monthly committment from us. Which means that you "can I have your stuff" whingers can play amongst yourselves since you've noone to play with. Which, in the end, means that you and CCP will lose both ISK and also very real money, very real time.

obligatory flame comment! etc etc
i have many alts to fly different kinds of spaceships. it would otherwise take me a literal foreveryness to try out different things. the different playstyles of each race is nice to change between to. Also i dont play eve 24/7 infact theres a high chance you play more than me. And out of the amount of you that do whine about people having alt theres seems to me a much bigger majority who dont care even if they themselves dont have alts.
Why in your opinion is having an alt such a good thing? Is it because people can play 2 at once so have less need to rely on others? or is it because some can use industiral chars to fund their pvp chars? If anything i see new people getting alts an advantage as it lets them train for different things making them more useful and more upto the standards of what a single char'd older player can do.
And i dont see your problem with having a alt stated in your actual post. you seem to say they are bad but give no reason except maybe because people sell them for isk...

To be clear, it is not an issue with players chosing to have alts (although I do have an issue with that) so much as CCP encouraging it, that I have a string issue with.
If one, as a creative individual, creates a concept for a game I would assume playability across a broad spectrum would be a great goal. If one, as company, chooses to take on a great game I would assume your goals are profitablity. The two have a hard time meeting within the industry. CCP is in an odd position since their recent buy-out of White Wolf. They are now pandering to the most money-making concepts, i.e., cheap (read: no serious out-lay of cash to them, if any) alts that us gamers purchase, the new ambulation promises (that I will personally groove on) and the anti-pirate nerfs to encourage new players.
Look, CCP for the last 6 months has been making a sincere effort to make as much money as they can and I understand that. The balancing, the extra accounts for $50US, etc is all about trying to keep the "beta"s, the "past years" and the N00bs happy. Unfortunately, we will all end up *****ing and this is my current *****. And I, like any other whinger, thinks this is the most valid argument to have at the moment.
I think that offering alts for real money only destroys the ISK market which is what brings a lot of attention from non-player sources. That is my interest. If we can keep this game together as players (all of us) and keep CCP aware that their revenue stream is FROM us, then the core of this game will remain the same: playability for all styles and choices and continued interest from the non-playing community (equals more real cash for CCP) which mean better players from different circles.
Again, if all you beta player just want other beta players to diddle with, where's the challenge?

Do you not understand the purpose of a second account? Hauling/Mining. You don't need 2x skill training to be an effective hauler/miner.

I guess CCP is desperate yet again and seem to spread their intent that running several accounts are cool and a neccessity to play EVE Online at its fullest.
Yes, DO WANT a game where every player has four accounts each, DO WANT! So I guess the real question is, how many REAL subscribers does EVE Online have? A number of 200k was stated by CCP? I guess in reality, there are only 100k different persons?

Not to mention I myself am already lot richer than many of the older players so yes you can catch them and even overtake them. Plus the corp I¦m in is actually definetly one of the better corps in EVE even though majority of the people are way under 2 years old. So maybe you should look in the mirror instead of trying to claim to be reprensitive of group you obviously know very little about

Who knows for sure, id be suprised if it's 100k or above though.
On the topic though, i have to say im disapointed in this.
What they sell this game as, and what they preach in their communications, goes against entirely the message that this promotion offers.
Teamwork, "it's multiplayer game you know", consequences ... balance ect ect...
All of which are negated by multiple accounting, and hardly needs to be encouraged.
Another disappointment from ccp.... i don't care if it's a business, while they continue to preach about everything eve is and should be, and how it relates to my expierences within the gaming world.... ill either take one or the other, not both... when they fly in the face of each other hitting on total hypocrisy.

I know people have been posting on here and asking about using this for their existing account or for an alt account they made weeks ago. I made an alt account less than three weeks ago, and I am really wondering if it is possible for me to get this deal on that account. Had I known something like this was coming, I probably would have waited for it before I made my alt account. So, can somebody from CCP please respond? If I can't do it, no big deal, but I'm just very curious because this sounds like a really great deal.

Make account for $50, train for 6 months, transfer the char to an existing account for $20 so you have a well-trained alt?
Only $70? Still cheaper than normal.

Someone posted this in my sig: " Power^2 is failure. Get 2 GTC's for 55 euros and 30D trial time!"
Even tough i'm sorry to say it, it's very true. If power of two gives 7 months instead 6, it might be worth it, but at the moment, there is zero to near zero reason to use the "action" at the moment... Shame tough, it nearly got me to buy a second character.

You say the Power of Two has no purpose and that it's better to make your alt account suffer from all the limitations of the trial program for 30 days (assuming you can even get a 30 day trial, remember that's not the standard) to save 5 Euros? You confuse me. |

It sounds ok to me.as long as the transfer fee is paid.
Im wondering if i can create a power of 2 account and then pay the fee to transfer my existing alt to it.

The price is in the currency you pay your subscription in, so if you live in Europe it's 49.95 EUR and if you live anywhere else it's 49.95 USD. This difference in the price is due to the VAT, which you all will now start discussing if I'm not mistaken.

just a question that sprung up in my mind..
Aren't you supposed to make the relevant currency very clear in the advert? It's horrifically ambiguous, which is underhanded to say the least.
Also, erm, VAT? Stop that tired old excuse.
Americans pay $49.95. Europeans pay Ç49.95. This equates to a shade under $70.
Surely that's a 40% increase? Which country are you pretending to be from to charge that ridiculous amount? In the UK, it's 17.5%, and i'm fairly sure the maximum rate of VAT is 25%. So what you're charging us is (assuming i'm not missing something here) a full 15% over and above the maximum rate of vat.

Payment Methods - Insifficient options in the UK.
CCP - Do yourselves a favour in the UK and allow payment by DEBIT CARD (Switch). Your current payment otions do not allow this.
I followed your Radio button for "Debit Card" and was not presented with an option for the single laegest payment method in the UK - Switch cards. Switch is "Maestro" and owned by Mastercard, but you have no options for this under your "Direct debit" payment options.
You are costing yourselves a LOT of custom from the UK not doing this. I work as Payments Manager for an online company in the UK managing over ú25 million of customer transactions per week from a customer base of over a million accounts. 70% of these are carried out using Switch cards.
The payment method is safe as it comes direct from a customers bank account, the Transaction fees are less than for credit cards for the retailer and it is an internationally accepted form of payment. Many people do not want, or cannot get, a credit card but you penalise them by making them look to 3rd parties to purchse ETC in order to plaay. This is a convoluted way for a first time player to get into the game and a barrier to entry.
Secondary E-Wallet solutions such as PayPal would also help to boost customer abilities to fund their subscriptions.
Personally I cancelled my credit card a couple of months ago as I am emigrating, the Power of 2 option would be great, but I can't pay for it with the methods you offer - that just cost you $50 bucks - I'm only one person but statistically take your customer base in teh UK - look at 70% of that and you'll have your current customers who could pay with Switch. (Not to mention the new customers you are missing)
If you can advise another way of taking up the Power of 2 Offer I'll happily spend my money with you.
Best Wishes

Edited by: JohnTheBaptist on 08/10/2007 09:08:36 If you live in the UK, you would be better off sending yourself a buddy program trial, then buying 2 x 3 month GTC from shattered crystal, with the exchange rate at 78.00 USD = 38.2879 GBP, and activating your account with the GTC at the end of the trial.
So you get 6 months, + 14 days trial, and save yourself ú10. Bob's your uncle.

Heh - I already fund my main and second account with ETC from shattered crystal - was commenting on it being a PITA compared to using a direct payment method. It's still an entry barrier for new players who don't know to go look somewhere else to fund their account.

Choices
1) get Power of 2, transfer over alt train for 6mnths transfer back. you now 6mths of training on alt - this is useful for someone who has trained up alts and want to keep them - then after 6mnth you can let the account expire. - cost is just like normal but you end up with a more skilled alt.
2) Get power of 2, train a new character keep account - you have 6months of half price training
3) get power of 2, train a new character for 6mnths transfer to main let alt account expire - useful for skilling a new alt

I will take advantage of this offer so i'll create a second account in the next days. I'm a pvper, but i'd like to expirience the economic face of EVE. I'm really doubtful whether creating a manufactorer/producer or a trader (npc trading). I don't know which of these two kind of characters could be more profitable, i mean...if i go for npc trading and i'll be good at it i can get lots of money in a few minutes, but if i mine/manufacture/produce something i think i'll have to deal with the competition and so on, but long term it would be more profitable...some advices?

I believe it's due to the weak US Dollar, though as far as I know we don't have any plans to increase the cost for everyone paying in USD at this point.

So EU customers have to pay an extra 15% to compensate for CCP not making as much from US customers... maybe I'm missing something here, but surely it would make more sense for US customers to pay 15% extra to make up for their weak currency?
Why are EU customers picking up the tab for the weak dollar? |

Indeed. I don't really see where the whole VAT thing comes in to be honest. If the exchange rates were 1:1 the price would still be the same as they are now. The diff in price is ONLY due to the weak dollar, which means euro's get ripped off. Quite simply, IF I could pay in dollars I would take up this offer. But I won't, since I'm forced to pay more by paying in Euros. Perhaps let us choose our payment currency or something!!

Don't you have to have an existing account to get the power of 2?
Am I right that this offer is ONLY available to people who have an existing account?
Yes its for existing accounts.
Its not about new players. It's about ccp getting more accounts.
The New players will arrive when they release Revelations 3 and every gaming sight will have ads for free 14 day trials. Not to mention the E mails ccp will be sending out to people who quit/left.

Edited by: Drykor on 09/10/2007 19:16:18 I really don't like the fact that you effectively need to pay for 2 accounts to be able to compete in Eve. Not only that but CCP is also actively encouraging it. It doesn't really sound like an mmorpg to me in this way, metagaming like this.
And yes I know there will be people saying that's it's not required, and sure you can play without it, but it sure comes in handy. Alt scouts, alt haulers, alt invention/r&d/production chars, alt spies, cyno alts, it just doesn't end.
I finally gave in a month ago so I could do eventually do invention with my own pos, without having to leave my corp. But I definitely don't like that this whole game is built around alts.

lets see, 2* 90 day GTCs from shattered crystal = 28.47 euros + 14 days free trial = 194 days for 56.94 euros (0.29 euros per day). Power of 2 = 178 days for 49.95 euros (0.28 euros per day).
If you pay in euros I would say this offer is pretty worthless.

Same thing here as far as I can tell, I can't find any mention of Po2 in my main account's options. Are you supposed to start Power of 2 through your main account, or are you supposed to register a new account and then link back to your main that way in order for it to work, or what?

Hmmm, ok....then where is the option to create it supposed to be located? Or is Power of 2 only viable for people who run on 6-month subscriptions already or something somehow? If it's supposed to be under Account Services, there's nothing there for Po2 on mine...I have EVE Voice, Transfer Character, Swap Character Portrait and Securely Sell EVE Time Code, and that's it.

I clicked the url to see the offer on the eve website and it asks me to login to "use the power of 2" but it doesn't accept my login information and at the same time im logged in with my account.

I'd done that and finally got a response back this morning....and was told that supposedly if you didn't get an email invite regarding the promotion, you're not eligible for it and if the option doesn't show up in your Account Management settings, they can't fix it manually where it will. Which more than a bit confusing, because why is this thread stickied as if to advertise the promotion if it's not open to anyone who's a current subscriber? Or furthermore, why is it not open to anyone who's a current subscriber if so?

Ok, it seems you have to be an active subscriber to use the Power of 2 offer, but we ran the query the day before we sent out the offer. We will run it again so everyone who wasn't active subscribers will be able to use the offer at some point this weekend. It should start working on Monday latest.

A) You use the power of two. EUR 49.95 ( $70.67) and get 180 days. $0.39 per day.
B) You buy 2x 90 Day time codes whenever for $38.85 and start off with one of their 30 day trials, yielding 210 days in total at a total cost of $77.70 or $0.37 per day.
Sweet, sweet offer.

Fair enough, so the Power of 2 actually grants 194 days? It's not like you can prolong a trial account with it, and it does say 6 months in every single ad and place you look?

No you don't. I created a Power of 2 account on 12/10/07, and today on my subscription details it says I have 176 days left, so the payment gives you 180 days - not 194.
I'm not complaining - if I wasn't happy, I wouldn't have bought a new Po2 account! - but people ought to know what they're buying, and you're misinforming them.

It's supposed to be sent to the character with most skillpoints, or oldest character maybe. I guess it is possible that it is sent to your oldest character on your oldest account only, though I don't know for sure.
And obviously, to get the email you must have a valid email registered on your account.

Hmm, I understand it's a tough job adjusting the VAT rate for each country (as you should), so I have no real problem with using 1 VAT rate for the whole EU. However it is not realistic to claim the VAT rate is why EU residents have to pay more.
Let's take a 20% VAT rate for example, since that is pretty much the highest rate being used in the EU. I'll use rounded figures for easy calculating.
50 euro / 1,20 = 41,67 euro (say 42 euro)
50 USD = 35,71 euro
That's still 6 euro's too much that you're charging it seems.
Yes, it's because of the dollar doing nothing.
There are pretty much 2 options: 1) Charge in 1 currency. 2) Adjust subscription fee's periodically.
Ah well, just my 2 cents.. _______________

So why can't we pick up a trial account either ones for a friend/family or for ourself? Doesn't seem to make all that much sense.

EDIT: Linked the trial.
It is actually 14 days that is some sort of typo. And you still get those free days with the power of 2 genius.
That's what I would be doing myself. Even if the trial is only 14 days instead of the 30 days as announced on this official website (how can that be, actually? ), it is still not more per day then the power of 2 offer. But at least I would not feel being ripped off just because I live in the wrong part of the world...

My account has been created, i can play, but ive no idea how this payment goes down. I gave my bank name and account number, but how does the debit take place (dutch customer here) ? I cant imagine this would be all they need from me?
When I check my account status it reads this: PendingAndActivated Payment is now pending, awaiting settlement
How do I settle the final payment :/ There are no messages in my online banking or such... -------- Its great being Amarr, isn't it? |

For those having trouble, hit cancel at the first power of 2 screen that has 'User' on it, then login to you account at the next screen, then click the power of 2 button. It worked for me.

Same...I followed the instruction on home page (log in and follow link) only to find that there is no link to follow!?
Not very efficient!
I would have probably signed up if I found the place to do so, but while looking for the answer to "where the hell do I get this?" I read through this thread and it doesn't make me so keen anymore.
Must try harder. :/

Edited by: Padovar Adandur on 01/11/2007 09:24:20 Hmm, when I try to create a PO2 account, I first login with this one. I then have to come up with a new account name (makes sense) and enter contact details (also makes sense). However...
Direct Debit: 30 day game time period +Initial account registration Ç19.95 Please note: You are signing up for a recurring directdebit subscription and will be billed at the end of each time period until you cancel or change your method of payment
Where's the part about the 6 month period?
Also, I obviously didn't finish the creation of the account, but somehow the accountname is now taken. I assume I created it, but I am not able to use it again for starting an account... _______________

When you get to the Power of Two screen, it'll ask for a username and password. This will be the details for you new Power of Two account, so putting in the details of your current account wont work as there is already an account by that name.
So you need to choose a new username and passowrd and it should work.
Just to clarify this info is for the screen that says Power of Two at the top, with only Username and Password boxes.

Nope, I thought that might be it, but then having a 'login' screen before the account is created doesn't make much sense. In any case, it didn't work.
Petitioned it, no response yet. Everyone's still too hungover...
