What happened to the Trinity 2 naming convention?
Now you call the new engine for trinity....but that was also the name of the old engine.
And i agree, that the SM3 requirements should have been released, as soon as you knew about it.
Oh well....looking forward to seeing the new graphics.

For those that don't have cards that support SM3, have there been enhancements to the "old" graphics engine to make more use of the vid card and be less of a strain on the CPU? Don't get me wrong, the new "content" (ships and whatnot) is awesome. But I've been looking for a smoother, more streamlined client since you guys announced the plan for a new engine +/- 2 years ago. I agree with a previous poster that this blog is extremely uninformative. The short version of the entire Blog could be this, "This is how we're releasing the patch. yadda yadda yadda. OH! BTW! 48% of you can't use the new graphics engine we've been talking up for the past 2 years. Good luck!"
This bothers me greatly. I hope so very much that the lack of information in this blog includes all the tweaks to the "old" client that 48% of us are still gonna be forced to use. Please tell me I haven't been waiting all this time for nothing. (once again. not talking about the new content.)
That is a topic for another dev blog. While I understand your concerns and the questions you have then this dev blog was not about the new version of the Trinity graphics engine, but on how we are going to deliver the EVE Online: Trinity expansion, the download and patching process, i.e., the deployment of the Trinity expansion. A lot of players had been asking questions about its size and how we were going to deliver it so we decided to write a dev blog on that topic.

Sorry, that my post sounded that harsh to you.. english istn't my first language. Friends? *knots tissue to remember this accident and express more carefully in future*
About your concerns with the shiny new stuff... I would see this veeerry relaxed. Look at the last ships, which entered the game.. they look waaaay better, than the old ones (compare raven/rokh). So in conclusion, I would bet my pants, that with the new engine - classic or not - all will see the new models and better effects and stuff. It just won't be the top notch gimmicks for the classic engine. I mean, CCP wants to grow with this game.. I've big doubts, that they'll keep 5 year old models.. just doesn't make sense.

Question though, I have BITS disabled (as I'm sure others out there do as well) since I don't like the idea of MS being able to upload stuff to my machine whenever they feel like it. Will CCP offer a regular download for the new content in addition to the BITS download?
Read the blog..it says u can opt for a full client DL..
ps MS does not just upload stuff via BITS willy nilly.... its used by the windows automatic update service...if u have automatic update turned off, or u have the option set to ask first before DL'ing(in which case bits will be used if u approve the updates), BITS pretty much does nothing..it is only used to transfer the automatic updates OR used by third party applications / Other MS software/services (WSUS ect) u have set to auto update..

Edited by: Bacci Galu on 22/10/2007 02:54:31 Oh and for the record, just because your card supports SM3 DOES NOT mean it will run beautifuly.. i can comment in realtion to 6 series cards, and say this..
DONT count on getting ANY SM3 software at resaloutions above 1024x768 on cards less than 6600GT unless u like REAL slow slideshows.. even the 6600GT will not go much higher than 1024x768 without noticable decrease in performance on a game that utilizes Shader Model 3..
if u running higher res than 1024x768 and have a 6 series card below 6800 you are better off upgrading.
If u have less than 6600 card...in all likleyhood (even at 1024x768) the game will look like a slideshow, if not refuse to run.. (i dont know any games that use SM3 that even get above 10-15 fps on cards less that 6600 even at 1024x768..most of them crash due to being bogged down EVEN IF the card, technicaly supports it)
I can not speak for ATi cards

While you are busy making a really fancy graphics client, can be get a bear bones client? Some of us like to run this game on a 2Ghz dell laptop with less than 1g of memory and a sucky card (and I'm sure there are slower computers playing this game too).
With my desktop I can crank the graphics card way down to get 20+fps but the graphics card in my laptop is too primitive to force the game quality down to increase FPS. With low FPS also comes a ridiculous amount of lag which lowering the quality of my desktop graphics card to up the FPS completely eliminated.
Any love for us with cheap computers?

If you play a game often, such as EVE, why stick with a cheap computer or laptop? I mean, if you know that you play games alot, even if its just EVE, why buy a computer that cant handle it? Its not expensive. Avoid getting drunk for a few weeks and there you go, brand new computer money in your wallet.

You only need to invest about 100 bucks maybe less to use the new engine...
A 2ghz cpu and a AGP variant of 7600GT will run it easy as most the work is done by the GPU..
for playing games the priority for PC upgrades is; 1st)GPU 2nd)RAM (more of it, but only to a certin point then CPU takes presidence from 512 - 1024 or 1024 to 1536 will see very noticable improvments...above this u wont notice it much) 3rd)CPU
if u spent 25-30 bucks on gettin ya RAM to 1024 and 70-100 bucks on a 7600GT AGP card ...u will be cookin with gas (ie good to go)
For the record...there will be a low-fi version of the client should u not be in a position to upgrade

Some of us have families and mortgages and choose not to purchase beer and instead pay off our house. I payed $100 for a memory upgrade for my laptop only to find out it used dual 128K memory chips so my new 500k memory chip for my laptop gives me a total of 628K.
If you can find me a laptop (yes laptop, I may play Eve a lot but I prefer to have a laptop so I can be in the living room with my family instead of holed up in a computer room) or laptop upgrade that costs $100 instead of $1-2000 then I'll use it. Until then it will be a while until I can upgrade.

Sounds all very nice but 1 thing
This new grafic needs some kind of engine support which a Radeon850XT does not support.....which i think is a bad joke. This grafic card is hot and not even very old but the engine u ask for for the "advanced version of the game" is barely supported by most cards....That after i checked the hardware store and the producer sites.....maybe u get a better system than this.....maybe even a list with which cards support this new thing as it's a pain in the ass to change the grafic card for this patch. (Yes i know not needed but WTF i think every1 wants this new engine.....and not every1 wants to upgrade a 1 year old grafic card like me for a new 1 which u can barely find to buy!

I can tell that CCP are in bed with Micro$oft.
Instead of being wishy washy about torrents, which are VERY EASY TO MAKE...... BITS is the piece of Windows Update that is exposed thru COM and requires knowledge of said system.
Now, I agree that ISPs are being shills for the RIAA and others but saying 'we might' offer a torrent then we 'are not' offering a torrent and so forth, is nuts.
If you guys don't offer it SOMEONE ELSE WILL. Think that one over.
BTW, BITS is broken on one of my machines and I have been manually installing windows updates.... so what about me?

Will I be able to run both the enhanced and th eoriginal client at the same time on the same PC ?
Currently have my main account on the large main screen, and my alt on the smaller lower res screen. It would be a waste of processing power to run them both at max res if not needed.

Excluding the potential for new bugs being introduced with new code, my understanding is that you can expect the same visuals as thus far, with new missions, new ship CLASSES (not models), etc, as well as POSSIBLY slightly better performance (even if you're still using a DX8 engine no doubt small improvements have been made here and there).
In short, for anyone without SM3 hardware Trinity II will be just another free update that'll bring new features and new stuff into the world of EVE.

You're doing something wrong, I ran Eve on the same card for a year with no issues. You need to look at optimizing your settings for performance some, and figuring out what else is slowing that computer down. I bet you have two firewalls and three antivirus programs on that computer huh?
Anyways, trinity's graphics update is optional. You don't have to upgrade the graphics to get the new content. --
