Q. Why do I have to pay for transferring my character?

A. As your character is your identity in EVE the transfer of such an identity needs to be limited. Identity hopping and alternate character abuse are immersion breakers in any virtual world; this is why CCP has chosen to limit this as much as possible. It is clear that some players wish to donate their characters to their friends so we want to keep this possibility open. The surest way to prevent abuse of this feature is to have credit card records backing the transfer. All abuse/hacking/exploitation of this feature will be treated as credit card fraud.

Q. I have suspended my account and I can't transfer a character from that account, why is that?

A. To prevent possible exploit your account needs to be in active state, i.e. subscription is paid for. This is to prevent assets on frozen, banned or otherwise suspended accounts from being transferred.

Q. Why does my character have to be in an NPC corporation to be transferred?

A. Being in a player corporation is a serious commitment. There is no way for CCP to verify that you are transferring your character with the consent of your fellow corporation members. To transfer such a character you need to first resign from your corporation, after the transfer the character can reapply for the corporation and the corpmates then have the option of evaluating if they choose to reaccept the character under the changed circumstances.

Q. Why does my character have to be 14 days old or more to be transferred?

A. Transferring a character that is less than 14 days old makes little sense. This limitation is put in place mainly to prevent accidental transfers of wrong characters.
