There are words for kennels and aviaries (although that word is taken from the French, so technically no German word).
But apparently the old Germanic tribes never considered the possibility of having a building that houses a lot of cats when they invented our language.

Well, I think it's because how things were in the past.
When a boy grew up and became a man he became "mr" / "herr" and thus had his 'full status'
While girls would be "miss" / "freulin" until they got married and then they become "mrs" / "frau" and then they finally achieved their 'full status'.
Now the gender equality demands that things are the same for both genders. So the girls don't want to be dependant on marriage to achieve their 'full status' anymore. If you know what I mean. But ofc it is different how much ppl actually cares about it.

Hr. (pronounced the same way as Herr) - Mr.
Fru - Mrs.
Fr++ken - Miss
and then there is
Doktor / Dr. - Doctor ^^
