Happy 2015. Yeah, I know what you mean. I had a somewhat similar situation happen to me a few years back when someone paid a Merc Corp to assassinate me.
I was in my Loki running a Radar (Data) site in 0.7 security system, multitasking several different things - hacking cans, fighting NPC's, salvaging and looting wrecks while scanning down other Exploration sites all at the same time. All of a sudden 6 Battleships warp in on top of me, launch combat drones and started attacking me.
Needless to say they caught me by surprise and in my confusion I made a few mistakes which resulted in the loss of my ship and my pod.
My mistakes : Overconfident and complacent about the security system. Defensive mods not active while running the site. Combat drones not deployed. Target locks all filled up with wrecks, containers and NPC's. Ship not moving from original warp-in point. Multitasking too many things at same time. Inattention to surroundings which included Local and on-grid. Overview incorrectly set up which filled up with hostile combat drones (now on separate Overview tab). Confusion fumbling around trying to scroll through Overview (filled with hostile drones) to find celestial object for getaway warp. Panic trying to close scanning window (to find Celestial object for getaway warp after Overview fumble).
I also contribute another cause as a mistake I made - I was using a 12 yr old computer that was set to low graphic settings in order to play Eve. When Concord showed up, I got hit by lag really bad, then my ship exploded and less than a minute later I was in Medical Clone.
I learned valuable lessons from that encounter which changed the way I pilot my ship. No mater where I'm at, when I undock from station I immediately activate Defensive mods and view all ships on-grid as hostile. I have 5 different very specific Overview tabs set up now, I only conduct one or two different actions at a time, I no longer fill up all my target locks, I keep my ship moving at all times and immediately after my ship comes out of warp I launch combat drones. Except when I'm in a safe spot.
Course a couple of months later after that incident I got a new computer as well.
Anyway, a week after the assassination I was contacted by someone wanting to sell me my corpse. Turns out that person was the one who had paid for the assassination which cost him about 2 to 3 bill ISK. That person was a well known forum troll who had decided to move forum conflict into the game.
Eventually I got my revenge twice fold. In-game I had a friend set up a scam for 3 bill ISK to sell him some nonexistent chat logs showing rage tears from me. In the forums his constant trolling of me resulted in reports from various players which CCP took notice of (personal Eve Mail message from CCP Explorer) and eventually his character was banned from the forums.
Well, that's it. Now that I look at it I guess it's not really a somewhat similar situation.

Happy 2015. Sounds like a perfectly reasonably internet game solution to an internet game problem to me, in a general sense. At least within the context of EVE where wars, vendettas, and space-murders are pretty much what a large part of the game is all about.
But to try and be completely impartial here's my thoughts:
It happens Rolled Out was perma-decced by Marmite thanks to a thread I made once, along with the input of a couple other pilots from the corp. It happens, I didn't take it personally, and nobody blamed me. In a game like EVE it's always the risk we take when we even login let alone anger some individual or some corp.
Someone Unless you've been told, how can you even be sure someone even hired anyone. It's super common for "Merc" corps (or just "HS griefer" corps), especially the little or fledgling ones, to just randomly dec corporations that they see in highsec working, or have a small membership, or simply because that's where the dice fell. Had tons of such random decs over the years on my corp(s) or the one's I've joined. It happens.
Parlay To get a clue as to the answer of the above have you tried speaking with the "mercs" involved? I'm kinda assuming you must have because you've pulled a figure out of the air there. I first met Tora Bushido when I was given diplo license for Rolled Out to try and negotiate an end to our perma-war. He had no trouble telling me upfront that it was a contract job, and so there was no point in trying to negotiate with him personally. That itself was good to know and hey, got to make a good acquaintance out of it who's services I've since used myself numerous times. You never know, you might find a lot of answers (or even solutions) by speaking to the deccers.
50m I'm assuming if that's a legit figure then the mercs hired for that amount shouldn't be much to be worried about. Though granted it would only be a dec against a very small corp, but still ... 50m? Have you any idea how much Erica paid for that little dec against low-class, even with Tora's favor? Try one and a half billion. But in anycase if you're using such figures, and seem so confident some individual's done the Dec from spite, then I'm assuming you've also got some clues yourself as to who or what corp is responsible.
In any event don't worry about it. Use it for fun yourself or just ride it out. Alternatively pursue some avenue to try and negotiate, or even hire mercs against the mercs. You say it's pointless because these things don't effect you, but your posts are kinda saying otherwise. Don't let it grind you down in a personal way.

Also due to me being in high sec and in a T3 Cruiser, they wanted to make sure they got the job done.
Also this happened years ago, long before the ship rebalanced.
