Well... I've never posted on this forum before, since i generally don't have problems with missions.. Been doing missions for RSS today and ended up with Pot and Kettle,, did 1-3 no problem but when i got to 4 the Outpost defenders just Rip me apart! I switched from my active tank Nighthawk to passive tank Vulture which 2 Chimera's couldn't kill, and the 13 NPC Fighters took me to 25% shield in less than 60 seconds...
05:13:27 Combat Outpost Defender barely scratches you, causing 87.4 damage. 05:13:45 Combat Outpost Defender strikes you perfectly, wrecking for 456.8 damage.
thats with 70% lowest resist...
Has anyone figured out how to do this mission? the fighters move at 2500ish m/s so I cant outrun them in anything that can take a single hit, personally..

and I forgot to mention,, the fighters dont show as "WANTED" so when you try to attack them you get a warning about criminal actions or something similar,, i didnt read the message clearly as I was getting spanked:)

I lost an Eos to this mission tonight because I was warned to not attack the Outpost Defenders, and then one of the NPC's warp scrammed me. I couldn't sustain the 450+ dps hits to my tank.
Something is bugged with the mission and even if you create a bookmark and try to warp to 100km's to it, you ended up right in the middle of the pack.
I petitioned it, so hopefully they will resolve it.
It looked like an interesting set of 5 missions, but this one totally ruined my night as my mission Eos was faction pimped.

I had the same problem, I was in a Hyperion, tank: 82% EM and 75 % Thermic, plus LAR II, my shield and armor went out in just 30 seconds. I ran away with just 20% in Structure.

Edited by: Elesaar on 09/12/2007 06:40:58 the vulture was loaded with defenders and had 26k shield and 70 lowest resist, it wasnt destroyed as I was aligned rite away and warped as soon as I got to 25% shield..
Ive petitioned it to see if its a known issue or if its actually do-able.
while searching around on google I saw a thread about something else and someone mentioned they finished all 5 parts, so its at least possible to do, but no mention as to how or if it took them 5 ships to do it :P
and the bookmark didnt work because its a deadspace encounter... I tried that also :(

not sure about replacing lost ships and items, but your best bet would be to petition and ask

My domi with 2 LAR 2 therm 1 em 1 eanm tanked them long enough for 2 T1 large EMP smartbombs to kill all the defenders. Dropped to half armor or so though before the swarm started dying off. I guess I was a bit lucky because I warped out about halfway through the defenders spawning to fit the smartbombs because my drones weren't killing them fast enough, and kept getting shot up by the regular ships by the outpost.

I just got this mission and I'd like to get some info on it before proceeding.
So you can kill these Outpost Defenders? Even though it says you cannot? I don't mind a tough mission, but I would hate to lose a ship to Concord. I just want to confirm before proceeding.
Thank you in advance. ------------

Edited by: GunnerC on 09/12/2007 19:51:55 Yep, can't believe this is soloable at the moment (Edit - congrats on the earlier post about use of smartbombs to kill the defenders - perhaps it's not 'sensibly' soloable ). I lost a Maelstrom - experimental setup, artillery for long range drones for short. The drones chewed through some of the frigates, but there were dozens (it seemed like). I killed off the repair structure and the recon outpost building just in case but it didn't seem to help.
My tank was ok - I took over 130,000 damage before I died - but it still didn't take long ! Petitioned to see what happens.

This mission is bugged and I would advise to not try it until its been sorted. Congrats to the guy that smart-bombed, unfortunately I took the pop-up's message to not shoot the outpost defenders serious and literal.
If you lost a ship - petition it.
I lost a lot of wealth, which i don't mind risking on "working" missions, but this is clearly buggered.

The only bug is the concord warning on the defenders, although imo the defenders shouldn't scramble you (and I guess I got lucky that they didn't scram me or I'd have a new domi too), I like the smartbomb bit, it encourages a bit of outside-the-box thinking rather than the same old warp in, activate tank, set drones to work, and leave.

Edited by: GunnerC on 09/12/2007 20:54:47 Hi,
I agree the bug primarily relates to the warning on the defenders, if that is fixed this just becomes a damn tough lvl4 - though if it relies on a specific weapon type to do I could argue it discriminates against those that do not have that skill (weak argument though). Is there any other lvl4 that requires one specific weapon type to make it possible solo ?
My petition response came through very fast - and the mission was cleared. As advised have petitioned separately for reimbursement. ********************************
Sadly we are unable to handle reimbursement cases in this category. Please file a new petitio under reimbursement category.
My apologies for any additional delay this may cause.
I've cleared the mission for you. You need to talk to your agent to get a new mission. Thank you for your patience in this matter and please accept our apologies for the inconvenience.

I just flew this mission and the fighters were annoying as hell.
1. I had to add them to overview. 2. The annoying message about the innocence of the fighters which I didnt want to turn off as I was remote repairing my drones. 3. Electronic attack frigs warp scrambling.
Completed the mission in my standard amarr fit domi. 2LAR2, 2n-type heat, 2n-type em, dc2.
Despite the annoying warnings and the first shock the fighters went down fast under Praetor fire (2 omnies). The fighters seemed to be a good source of cap, too.

Not seeing them on overview, but seeing little crosses orbit you is annyoing as is the concord warning we got when we ordered the drones to attack.
You might say: Turn off the warning; but if you do that and you accidentally remote repair an enemy and not a drone it can be fatal.
At least the concord warning has to go.

I attempted the mission about 5-6 times no luck then I had another Raven join me with no luck. Im glad others had the trouble as its the only mission I asked the GM's to skip for me. This they done with no questions asked and I even got the mission reward and bouns thanks to the quick response.
Hope it is fixed soon, the mission about the mines was a nice change.
Keep up the good work CCP you will get there in the end.

I did this in a passive tanked rattlesnake on friday last week and had absolutely no issues with it, didnt use drones and just munched the rats as they came close, never got below 85% on the shield. Couldn't differentiate whether EM or Thermal was better cruise damage type though, seemed impartial.
The only tactic i used was orbiting the beacon at 2.5K and only attacking things which agressed me when i warped in, was simple enough to clear out, if not a bit boring during to the overall volume of stuff to kill.
Looks like some of the damage posted in this thread is a bit buggy, i completed it sucessfully though.

I done this one using a logistic ship to boost my main. 2 x smart bombs on my raven wasted the defender drones and the rest was easy. Smart bombs can also take out the EW frigs too when they get in close. It isn't that hard once you figure out a strategy.
Reward was a 1 run T2 smart bomb bpc. Wonder if this will set a trend for new missions?. Has any one tried part 5? I haven't got round to doing that part yet.

Hi,
i have done that mission, and the rest too, without any problem (guess i was lucky). The warning message popped up too and so i decided to not engange them at all, because i lost a nice nighthawk to concord lately (no reimbursment because i'm in a npc corp aka 2nd class citizen).
Was using my standard cnr (or rni ) with cruise missles (thanks to ccp for ******* up torp usage in missions )
I've got that mission again right after the first one, though i have dropped it for getting no bounty at all beside that large emp smarty t2 bpc (1 run) there was nothing worth in it.

Edited by: Iracham on 10/12/2007 12:33:41 Part 5 is pretty easy and straightforward, 3 groups of ships in the 1st room, 2 groups in the second, take the groups 1 at a time, no drone agro, just takes a while (4 or 5 BS per group, a couple cruisers and a few frigs) Several structures, none of which dropped anything.
BTW I honestly doubt the ability of the ishtar to do 4/5 due to the damage the defenders put out, and the lesser damage of medium smartbombs.

You can get early aggro by moving towards the gate. Second group engages at about 15km towards gate third group if you reach the gate.

did this mission yesterday, defenders are really bugged, they hit hard, but they could not bring my mael down, had not to warp out. Luckily they didn't hit me with 45000 dmg with a single volley, this would have been my doom too of course.
defenders act really strange, they're extremely fast, all of a sudden, they return to the structure they guard only to jump back to you in the next seconds. if you zoom on the structure, you can see that they fly manuvers, normally not possible.

I'm in the same boat as you. Not only ships but some rare faction gear.
I was also lucky enough to take part in the great jump clone implant fiasco by not only losing implants in the clone I jumped out of, but also lost them in the clone I jumped into.

Needless to say, I've had better EVE days.

In the patch notes for the next patch.
http://myeve.eve-online.com/updates/patchnotes.asp
Build 45001 to 45943 addresses Patch Notes for Trinity 1.0.1
...snip...
Missions
Activities performed by drones now count towards determining whether a mission is complete - specifically, using mining drones would prevent mining missions from completing properly. The issues with the mission Pot and Kettle - Seek and Destroy (4 of 5) have been resolved. Objectives for the mission In the Shadow of War (1 of 5) have been clarified. Security agents are no longer giving out mining missions. No more milk runs!
...snip...
I have recieved the same response, that there was nothing abnormal and if I thought there was a bug I should post a bug report (which I did). I added that the patch notes had mentioned issues with that mission, and wanted to know if those issues as I had observed them would allow for ship reimbursal (Outpost Defenders showing they are CONCORD protected while they rip your ship apart with massive DPS).

As long as the petition isn't closed (in which case I'd lodge a new one) then you can reply and maybe even put in a link to the patch note and this thread. I've lost a ship in a mission which also claimed a alt's ship as well for similar bug and been refused reimbursement even though they returned my alt's ship ! I replied ... somewhat strongly worded and a different GM reimbursed what was lost with standard reply. As they're pretty busy sometimes they may not be quite up to speed with all the changes in Eve and new bugs/issues. From past experience if you reply to a petition then often the petition is escallated to a more experienced GM or one that may have wider scope for resolution.
I'm lucky to not have been offered this mission yet (still just getting the usual regulars). All the best to those who lost ships and hope you all get them returned soon.

Additionally I left the mission open thinking it was a huge issue and it would be easier for the GM's to see the mission if I left it open. I tried to go back and get my stuff but none of my other ships could get to where I died and get out in time. Had I just set a bookmark and closed the mission, again, my stupid self would not have lost what dropped at least. Enjoy my n00bness and the epic l0lz...I'm back to tech 2 ravens for my Level 4s

OMG
I suffered the same fate as you, but didn't lose nearly as much in terms of isk.
This whole thing is really lame and I've taken the advice to leave the petition open. There is just NO logical reason to refuse reimbursement.

I just did this mission once.. before the patch.
Just killed the drone before it could kill me.
Was in a Dual repped Dominix and used Small Hobgoblins II to kill it... just ignore the warning. Concord didnt come after me.

Just completed it in a passive tanking ishtar. Wasn't too bad, they took my shields to about 40% but I was able to take the defenders out with vespa ii's quick enough to keep the DPS from getting to much.
I guess its 'fixed' now but I didn't get it pre-patch so I can't say if its any easier or not now, but I didn't get any pop-ups.

The last reason I was given for ship reimbursment denial was the popup saying I would be CONCORD'ed if I attacked was a client side UI error and can't be verified by server logs thus no reimbursment could be given. I'm glad some people got their ships back at least. I'll make the money back eventually.

Are you kidding me?
There are several people in this thread with no affiliation at all to each other, who all got the same pop-up warning.
WTF?
I agree the money can be made back, but this is BS.

I'd like to know the same thing. What if you did parts 1-3. Can you decline the other parts like you would any other mission? Would you take a standings hit?

Edited by: Thelonious M0nk on 20/12/2007 03:59:30 I just did this mission and it seemed pretty easy to me, I just shot all the red blinky stuff and it was easier than an average lvl4... I hadn't read this thread first either, otherwise I probably wouldn't have tried it. So I think it might be fixed now. I do missions for a gallente agent btw, if that makes a difference.

Well, it seems that I am not the only one to find this mission a little difficult. Fortunately, I did manage to clear the mission without having to jump out, or suffer the loss of my CNR, but I honestly was a little worried when I saw those outpost defenders move and hit.
I did the mission by aligning to a station, turning on the cruise missles, and pulsing my shield booster appropriately to deal with damage and manage cap. I had full room aggro, and every respawn seemed to like to aggro my drones. It took me a little while to realize that it was the defenders chewing into my shields, and next time I do this mission, those ships will be the first one I pop.
I used EM cruise missles and they went down really fast, I would say 2 volleys per ship (14 missles).
A little patience, and resolve should find you sucessful.
But that mission has got me a little concerned about the fifth mission in the string, and on that note, I am heading to bed and going to tackle it tomorrow.

finally got my ships back ! but lost allot of items, they couldnŠt salvage, they said. here is the respons:
Hello,
We have now returned the ship to your hangar. Some items might be missing from the ship (the ones left in the wreck), and those we are unfortunately unable to replace. Note that we have removed the insurance payout you received for the ship loss. Further details are available in your character's eve-mail inbox. Thank you for your patience.

My hull of my hyperion is repairing as I write this from those defenders. If you guys think about it, This set of missions deals with smartbombs. It makes complete sense that those dang defenders do so much damage, ya know?

Anymore feedback on this mission? How balanced is it in terms of difficulty with other lvl 4 missions? I have just turned it down as I am still a n00b with level 4's and from what the majority of people are saying, this seems to be much more difficult than others.

Well I can only speak for myself flying a shield tanking ishtar, but it was probably the hardest lvl4's (even more so than the AE bonus room). But it was only because of the extreamly high DPS of the oupost defenders. Once they are dead (which doesn't take very long) it's easy.
If I get it again I might try getting in an armor tanking BS and fitting a couple of large smartbombs and see how that goes.

So what dmg type should I tank for on this mission and what dmg type should I inflict to improve the odds? I just got 1 of 5 for Pot and Kettle so eventually I'll get to #4.

I must admit I wasn't really concentrating on the damage type they were doing (more worried about keeping my ship in one piece ), but as the outpost defenders were amarr fighters then I'd guess EM (but you'd probably do well to tank for thermal as well).

I have done this mission 2 times now. 1st time in a Hyperion with 2x Lar 2s and 2xEm + 2xTherm hardeners. this was before the latest patch and i was down to about 50% armour at the lowest. I used drones to take out the outpostdefenders.
The second time was last night in a Kronos. Same setup with armourepairers and hardeners, but this time i used 2 named em and 1 thermal smartbomb to take out the defenders. Was much faster and the outpostdefenders popped after a couple of cycles with the smarbombs. I didn't have to turn on more than one armourrepairer this time.

ok, i found this mission not too bad. just completed it in about 20 mins with small hobgoblins on the defenders. dominix fitted with 1 large and 1 medium repper. I only needed to turn the large on for about 1 min. The damage is not that bad to be that honest. Just tank for EM and Thermal.

Like Sarah, also completed it in about 20 minutes. My Domi was fitted with 1 large "accommodation" armor repairer, 2 x EM armor hardener IIs, 2 x thermal armor hardener IIs, and a DCU II, plus a mix of T1 and T2 drones. My T2 medium drones took care of the outpost defenders without any trouble. I doubt my armor dropped below 95% at any time during this mission.

I just ran this to halfway trough the 5th mission (simply because i was to tired to finish the second room)
i ran this in my domi, the only t2 stuff i had fitted were cap rechargers.
2 em hardner, 2 therm hardners. 1 named LAR. and a pointer.
the most exciting part of this was the 4th mission, with the little devils that left no wreck. (after reading this thread before starting it, i took the advice to load up an emp smart bomb)
the 5th mission was easy, my armor never droped below 90%. it just took a while to pop each BS because of my skills. (drone skills arnt as high as id like to be in a drone tank)
its easy as long as you have adequate em/thermal hardners.

The problem with this mission wasn't centered around the damage, although its a little higher than normal, it centered around a bug that caused a concord pop-up window to appear warning to not shoot the Outpost Defenders. By time you realized you needed to ignore the warning, you were probably already scrambled and losing tank.
They fixed this problem with the trinity patch 1.0.1, but thy seem to NOT give a crap about reimbursing losses caused by the bug, although some people did get their stuff back.

Just completed this mission in my Domi. It is cake.
Tips: Fit dual Large EMP Smartbombs, dual EM & Thermal hardeners. Tried using the Curator IIs and they worked fine. Might want to fit an Omni tracker for those that get below 20 (I used my Hammerheads for those)

I lost a recent purchase to this mission, my CNR. I am a casual gamer, fancied treating myself to a nice ship over Xmas. I have run missions since 2004 and this is the first I have petitioned, mission is impossible to tank on well skilled T2 raven fit or kill fast enough with a single smartie. Only way to kill all the close range drones is smartbombs, given the prior mission give a 1 run plan you might think this is enough. It isn't, lost CNR, went back with 4 smarties and wiped them out and carried on. Unfair that CCP will not reimburse for my having to beta a mission :/ Being a casual player I dont make enough to afford this sort of thing. Result of petition was Eve GMs saying this was fixed weeks ago...
First and only moan post in 3+ years, sort it out CCP :/
