Dear CCP,
From our point of view there is a threat to the goodwill of EVE-online due to the poor quality of localization. We understand that there are objective reasons and you are unable to estimate the quality of the work done in that direction to the full extent. ThatÆs why we, the people who are highly concerned in localization, address this letter to you.
The open beta test of Russian localization was launched at test server Singularity on the 19th December 2007. The goal of this beta test, as any other beta, is to involve more people (testers) as to find mistakes which were missed by translators and localizers. Obviously, to be successful the beta test should be in final stage with regard to completeness and quality of the project.
What we saw on Singularity did not correspond to the announced beta status. The key terms have different spelling, frequently faulty. The translation made it impossible to find an item mentioned in the description of a ship or item through Market. Most every description was translated so illiberally and inappropriately that the views divided: some consider that the translation was done by means of a translation program and others think that the translators did not know basic principles of Russian. The essential point is that there are so many distortion and mistakes and they are so evident that it is almost impossible to miss them by mistake. There is no apparent need in beta-testers to notice these errors as they will send tens of duplicated petitions and bugreports relating to obvious mistakes taking away precious time.
Another important issue is that the translation is of such poor quality and distorts the original sense so heavily that it is almost impossible to suggest any amendments or improvements. One has to launch the original English version so as to restore the original meaning of term, phrase or description.
We do not know why the project s in so poor condition and who is responsible for such translation. But then we see the result. And this result is absolutely unacceptable. We request the beta test of Russian localization to be withdrawn and sent for revision. Should you have any questions we have prepared evidences and detailed description explaining our attitude.
We appreciate your work and that level of quality which is clearly showed by EVE-online. ThatÆs why we draw your attention to the fact that the said localization and amateurishness during its preparation will substantially undermine the goodwill of the project among Russian-speaking gamers.

It in the majority of opinion of people which successfully play at the English interface. Opinions of those people who did not begin to play EVE-online because of a language barrier here cannot appear for the clear reasons.

The project of this petition came into a question on the Russian forum less than three days. This petition does not express opinion of all of the Russian players. All of the wishes of players offered on the Russian forum are not taken into account in petition.
Suggestion, to organize a translation with participation the Russian workers of CCP and activists of the Russian association of game did not enter in petition.

P.S. It's sadly to recognize that, but my opponents right. The localization is very, very bad & it was mistake to give it status "beta". I hope, what this "localization" will not be in Tranquility in such kind...

I am not signing this petition.
It doesn't matter how we call current status of russian localization - Beta, Alpha or so. I agree that the current translation on the test server is awful and can't be moved to the production one.
But we can spend some time to write a petitions to fix most of issues instead of write this kind of topics on the forum.
Thank you in advance for your attention.
PS: GMs changed status of my petitions and it's looks like they works on localization.

Signed, with hope that concrete steps will be taken to discuss the global localization correction (at least discuss the translation of key terms - 'capacitor', 'warp' and so on) with the Russian community. I think that personal sending petitions on each word is ineffective because a lot of terms have not a clear translation and players will offer different variants.

This reference in is not opinion of the majority of Russian-speaking players as they do not read and do not write at English-speaking forums or at all do not play and occurrence of localization wait. That fact, that here something was written by the players playing in English, actually nothing means for them. If any players do not want occurrence of localization and Russian subscribers, it only their personal interest.
For attraction of players to this reference the greater anti-advertising of localization at Russian-speaking forums where the most critical mistakes were exposed in the most unpleasant kind has been used. Any greater work cannot be made without mistakes.
If you are afraid of arrival of set of Russian-speaking subscribers which could be much for this purpose probably it is not necessary to be engaged in an anti-advertising of localization?

This reference in is not opinion of the majority of Russian-speaking players as they do not read and do not write at English-speaking forums or at all do not play and occurrence of localization wait.
This petition was discussed in Russian about four days at the forum www.eve-ru.com (largest Russian eve-site), and debate continues until today. So anyone can get involved in this discussion, and there absolutely no need to create the illusion of depriving someone of their voting rights. Rather, it shows a desire to speak on behalf of an unexistant group of people to give weight to one's own opinion. Anyway, about 2 days ago, the new vote was published in Russian on eve-ru.com. The votes so far are: 117 people supported the petition; 20 - not supported; and 15 people supported it under the condition of adding their comments to the petition. Russian community EVE at present is small on structure (everyone know all or heard about each other - as in small city) and considers itself elite.
Not in a small degree this factor has affected on subscribed.
Russian community does not wish to extend due to people preferring to not play game without localization.

I cannot comment on the nature or quality of the Russian localisation, mainly because I don't speak or read Russian and also because I am not in charge of the localisation project. I do however know that we are still looking for bughunters to help us with the quality control of the Russian localisation. IMO it would be a good idea to create an ISD-Localization department and ask russian player community to help, if no organization, like Netville, can translate EVE. I myself would sign up for the job, so my russian speaking friends could play the game and english is the only barrier for them...

Thank you for your feedback on the Russian client.
We agree whole-heartedly that the level of quality of the translation was unacceptable and that is why the decision was taken to withdraw the Russian client from beta with the Trinity 1.1 patch.
CCP localization effort is growing and, while it might not be much comfort to those of you who played the Russian beta, we did learn a lot from the problems that came up. We are now working with a new localization partner who seem to be producing much better results and we will get a new much improved Russian client out as soon as we can. Of course we will still need your help ironing out the final bugs from it, but we are confident that the quality will be on a whole other level.
Also I would like to apologize for lack of replies to this thread previously, it is now part of my job to keep an eye on these forums and respond to any questions you guys might have

Если Вы, CCP Caedmon, лично занимаетесь русской локализацией, то. как минимум, Вы должны понять этот мой пост:
- юридическое название и торговая марка вашего нового партнера по локализации на русский язык?
- его опыт в русской локализации компьютерных игр вообще и MMORPG в частности?
- Вы лично, и ваша компания (CCP) уверены в том, что сотрудничество с новым партнером принесет пользу и CCP, и ныне играющим игрокам, и желающим присоединиться к миру EVE? Мое личное мнение, что предыдущая попытка русской локализации скорее отвергла потенциальных членов игрового сообщества по причине крайне неопреденной позиции CCP

After the past bullying CCP the Russian language, I do not think it necessary to explain in English. The translate.google.com helps more for newbs then any previous CCP"s try of Russian localisation in few 2 years

It might be hard to believe but our previous Russian localization partner was a Russian company who had experience of computer game localization. Based on previous results we decided to use an existing partner who had been working with us on other localization projects and delivering excellent quality.
I will not name either of the localization partners, but as I said we are confident that the quality will be on a much higher level with the new translation. The Russian EVE community will have a chance to test it for themselves when it is released and I am sure you will let us know if you donÆt agree.
