So I'm pretty new to the game but I see alot of people on the forums complaining about Amarr ships: laser problems, cap problems, the NOS being nerfed etc., but clearly people still fly it.
I'm currently trained up for an interceptor and shooting for a Curse. I want to know why people do like Amarr.

I'm an RPer at heart and I like being the arrogant underdog. Besides, Amarr have their choice of excellent ships. Of course the Curse isn't the murder-machine that it used to be, but on the other hand the sacrilege was upgraded from a hard tanking ship that couldn't kill a wet sponge to something with both mobility, firepower and flexibility. ______________________________________________ -You can never earn my respect, only lose it. 1 - Zealot 120km Sniper with Heavy Beam II's and decent damage. Excellent for roaming gangs.
2 - Sac Very versatile. Nano fit can perma run mwd while spamming missiles on passive regen without gimping the setup in any way. Tank fit can tank sentries all day and is generally hard to break.
3 - Geddon 700 turret dps at 60km optimal with MegaPulse II's and Scorch makes this an insane boat for fighting on gates. Drones give it decent utility as well fitting for either more dps or rep/ecm drones. Cheap Tachyon II sniper though practically impossible to make cap stable.
In general the Amarr boats are a lot of fun to fly if a little on the overly nerfed side. There is no single factor that makes Amarr have problems it just a combination of a lot of small things that make them a little harder to use.
That being said they have some ships that are downright amazing. Geddon being best example. . .. WELP! .. . |

Despite what people say, Amarr ARE fun to fly. I really enjoy flying my ships and gain a certain pride in knowing that people expect us to be the underdogs.
Currently flying the Malediction, which is an awesome fleet and larger gang tackler. Looks awesome, flys nice and fast, can be fitted a number of different ways depending on what you want to do. Ok, so not 'True' Amarr in that it's a khanid ship, but the hull is pure S3x.
I also fly the Crusader, which is a 'True' Amarr ship. Does nice DPS (142 for me) for an inty, flys faster than the Malediction when speed fitted. Lack of a third mid slot limits it slightly as a pure tackler but awesome for frig to frig battles and/or small fast gangs.
I would say that Tech 1 ships below cruiser are a little lacking, both in fitting abilities and performance, not all, just some though.
One of the detractions of flying Amarr I feel is that it IS skill intensive to make them work. I have just got 5m SP and am only now feeling that I'm good at flying smaller ships. We do have some awesome ships, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. We have some problems, yes, but lets be honest, who wants to be run of the mill, flavour of the month players.
Main thing is that if you are having fun, then who cares what race you fly. ---

Arbitrator is a really nasty combination of ewar and dr0nage, you can stick a 1600 plate and ewar + 3 flights of drones, an expensive cruiser if you fit it all t2 but its very versatile and fun to fly.
Prophecy has an incredible tank (I usually fit it with 1600 plate and 425 II autocannons) but i used to fly a proph with heavy pulse and pure resists + heat sink and it is a monster of a bc in close quarters.
Harbinger is a gankmobile, its damage is incredible with heavy pulse.
Armageddon is my favorite bs in game, for the reason wayward holligan mentioned.
Punisher is great fun also, you can outlast any frigate and some cruisers flying it.

The sheer look of the ships - black & gold on the Executioner is enough to make grown men weep.
And the feeling that the Punisher should be in a class of it's own between Frigtes and Destroyers.

Pre trinity the Malediction was the most badass terrifying looking little frigate, and was/is a joy to fly. The sader has lots of upsides as well, though I dont like it all that much.
The arbitrator is a solid cruiser, decent for gangs or solo. Also seems to handle level 3 missions pretty well for amarr.
The Harb. It spits out a lot of death and looks good doing it.
Range on pulse lasers. Its nice having an optimal of 10km on a frigate, or 20+ on a cruiser/bc.
There's a lot I dont like, but you asked for what I did. Of the ships I can fly those are the ones

I wasnt really impressed with them when they announced that and slightly increasing EANM's cpu was going to fix things. But, it was still a problem, and i'm very glad it was fixed. :)

... I like Amarrian ships, they're balanced bar they dont shine compared to counterparts.
I don't care that some Amarr ships are less adequate, I don't care if I can't solo, I don't care if I'm not #1 DMG on a killmail, it's a laid back life, adding adequate DPS.
And... Amarrian females are by far > Gallente/Caldari females, and rumour has it, they don't interbreed.

Amarrian ships are fine, it's usually the pilots that are the problem. Yeah the T1 one cruisers need a little tweak here and there but the T2 stuff is more fun anyway. A gang without a Pilgrim is no gang at all, want to plow mindlessly through a group of people? The the Abaddon is your boy, especially later on in the game when you have huge armour tanking skills and T2 large lasers. It's quite handy at POS sieging too if you find a high sec one.
Lasers are cap heavy but use no ammo, no ammo means more cargo space for cap boosters (or picking up loot) and no reload time... Oh yes that Raven punching out wtfpwnage may look good and hurt a bit, but then he has to reload, you're still there and your lasers are taking his ship to bits. Few mids means little scope for EWar so you have to be clever, nothing is more sinister than a mind that constantly has to out think his opponents rather than simply out jam them and Amarrians are always thinking outside the box. It's why we made slaves out of the Matari. Nos "nerf" isn't that bad, at least you can't be drained out now, if you really want to nail their cap fit some nos and a neut to hit the final blow.
Stick with it, you'll really love it after a while

With my attributes to get to Absolution CBC: Cruiser 5: 25 days (4 days for cruiser 1 to 4, 21 days for cruiser 4 to 5) HAC 4: 5 days Tech 2 Pulse: 26 days (7 days T2 small pulse spec 4 + 19 days medium T2 pulse spec 4) BC 5: 31 days (5 days from BC 1 to 4, 26 days for BC 4 to 5) Leadership 5: 7 days Warfare Link Specialist 4: 8 days CS 4: 6 days Total: 108 days
I myself am only 58 days from having a full T2 fit Absolution. ------------------- ნỊs uʍop əpỊsdn Support the introduction of Blaze M crystals for Amarr! |

Malediction is the best looking ceptor in the game. I love rockets, love the slot layout, love the bonuses, and love the under-dog factor. Abbadon is a beast as well, buffer tank + heatsinks + MegapulseII = bye bye everything. ________

Basically what all these ammarians are doing is denying the facts because they know their ships are crap, yet they will not or cannot face the fact how much time they've put into training time yet they still are subpar at best. Thus they believe they like amarr for untrue and impractical reasons.
It's sad. really...

Edited by: Grytok on 17/01/2008 22:20:24 I fly Amarrian Ships, because when I die in one, I die good looking
They're also totally underestimated, because people with like 5 Mio SP keep claiming that they're total crap.
With every needed Skill up to LvL 4/5, Amarrian Ships are terrifying however and you'll very fast learn, that Lasers do hurt
EDIT: Does not keep me from telling everyone that they're crap, because I like it when people go "WTF?" after I've killed them .
