Originally by: QwaarJet I have no "CCP" in my Application data folder.
Unless they have changed something on XP it should be C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP
Dont think so...
There are two CCP folders besides the game folder. Thats not the one you want.
This is:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\CCP\Eve
if you go to start run, and paste the above
it should show you the "dd7d3d04d133729bde20677ec76f5d63" folder that you should delete
You could also do a find and search for dd7d3d04d133729bde20677ec76f5d63
and delete it.

Never make excuses for mistakes - it only perpetuates them. Even after finally finding the folders, it's not just that their hidden but Eve included the wrong location, and deleting them still get the same error message.

Can we just get a list of files to delete?
I run eve with "/end /LUA:OFF" and I do not have these mentioned folders anywhere. So please just tell me what I need to delete in my eve directory.

Edited by: Gordon Freemonkey on 19/02/2008 16:24:38 ugh... like the 4th thread already.. anyways..
REASON FOR PROTOCOL ERROR:your using a build not matching that of the servers.. thus you have to patch.. now if you load eve and dont get a instant 'download new build' window then you goto your respective OS's c:\'user'\Application DATA yes that means the folder thats says APPLICATION+DATA not just Application... in this folder there should be one called CCP.. delete this folder then restart eve.. what you did was delete the games TEMPORARY SETTING,ETC SO WHEN THE GAME RESARTS IT SEES YOU DONT HAVE IT SO ITS ALMOST LIKE DAY 1....
works for me and the ppl in my alliance using xp/vista ty and sry for caps

SIMPLE INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO FIX IT USING VISTA
heres how to fix it if you have vista go to my computer then press the alt button next to the space bar that will show another panel you will notice it. Then click the tools drop down menu then click folder options. then go to view and click show hidden files and folders.
then got to drive c then you will see a folder like program files but its not you need to go to the folder programdata then once in that folder delete the folder called ccp and it will then work.

Originally by: Tillsiter Well here is another funny one .
First of all i have 2 Clients installed . Patched them around 14-15 o clock with the autopatcher . Patched them one by one in a 5 minute timeframe .
Now when trying to start the first client , i get the Incompatible protocoll message. Trying to start the second client i can connect to tq .
So i tried copying the second client over the first one . Didnt worked , still the incompatible protocoll message .
And i dont have any of theese folders mentioned in the "hotfix" on my pc . And YES i can see all hidden files and folders :).
Thanks for your time reading this :p
The reason one install works and not the other is most likely that one was affected by the 17th of Jan patch and the other was not. What the workaround posted in the OP does is fix that issue.
If you can not find the Application Data folder under: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users then you could maybe try the above posters suggestion and look for it in : C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Local Settings
What you should find in ..\Application Data\CCP\EVE is one or more folders that are all safe to delete and will in no way affect your operating system.

Yes deleting that file works. Make sure you show ALL hidden files otherwise you wont find it. Hm I would say this is bit ironic bad Luck this patch ;) Wouldnt it be nice to have a skill-queue for things like this...

Edited by: Krii Eckhart on 19/02/2008 16:28:53 here is solution: if you are using native XP (spanish, german, etc) You have to delete c:\documents and settings\all users\(application data but in your language not the english one)\CCP\EVE
Iam repeating my post bcs so many ppl are writing here and it may be lost :) CCP if u are using path as a reference u have to remember that diffrent language versions of windows have diffrent directories.

Originally by: CCP Saint If you are getting the error "Incompatible (Protocol)" when trying to connect to Tranquility post Trinity 1.0.2 patch, it is because of this previous patch. To alleviate the problem please visit this news article for further instructions.
Originally by: Fix for error Incompatible (Protocol) after Trinity 1.0.2 Patch
Due to an unforeseen side-effect of the attempt at compiled code patching back in January it appears that the newly patched Trinity 1.0.2 client was still using the downloaded compiled.code from the hotfix in January, and thus the machonet version number did not match. If you are getting the error "Incompatible (Protocol)" when trying to connect to Tranquility post Trinity 1.0.2 patch, it is because of this previous patch. To alleviate the problem you need to do one of the following:
- Go into the following directory, and delete the contents:
XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\CCP Vista: C:\ProgramData\CCP Mac: /Users//Library/Preferences/EVE Online Preferences/p_drive/All Users/Application Data/CCP Linux: /.cedega/EVE Online/c_drive/Documents and Settings/All Users/Application Data
- If you using a shortcut to launch Eve, you can simply change the case of the link, for example change C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE to C:\program files\ccp\eve
Make sure the option "Show hidden folders" or you may not find these folders.
Please make sure you have "Hidden files and folders" checked to display.
You can see this by using the drop down menu when you open your "C" drive and selecting "Tools", then "Folder Options", "View" and finally check "Show hidden files and folders"
Worked perfectly.
Thank you.

try rebooting your machine for a more aggressive approach, uninstall EVE, delete all cache files and re-install the client ______________________ Banana Phone!! |

If you can not find the Application Data folder under: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users then you may be running a localized version of XP and the folder is named differently.
What you should find in ..\Application Data\CCP\EVE is one or more folders that are all safe to delete and will in no way affect your operating system.
yes i am having a localized version of xp in fact the german one . That doesnt change the fact that i was searching the right "localized" folders which are like .... C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\All Users\Application Data its not like i didnt think about the english path not beeing the same as the german one :) it is more like the ...\Application Data\CCP\EVE (\CCP\EVE <-- this part ) doesnt exist on my computer :) Remember i had "show hidden folders and files" activated . Its not like i am that stupid :) .
but nevermind , i will find a way sooner or later and at least one client is working atm .

Delete the folders contents, if you check its size you will note that it is not holding a lot of data.
