So what does CCP reccomend when the folder does not exist?
I have 1 compiled.code file on my system. I do not have a C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\CCP folder. I do not have the hashed folder anywhere on my system.
I am not an idiot, I know how to search, change folder options, and run a command prompt.
The folder in question DOES NOT EXIST

Edited by: Yggdrassil on 19/02/2008 19:31:22 ***edited one old "/y" from the del command as its no longer used by vista it seems*** Hopefully - someone will "proof" read this - but think this should work for vista:
start>run>cmd
cd\ cd programdata attrib -h ccp /s /d del ccp\*.* /s (if you want to hide the ccp folder again: attrib +h ccp) exit
Not ENTIRELY 100% sure, so if someone thats GOOD with Vista can proof read that would be great :)

The news and the OP has been updated with step by step instructions for how to solve this in case you're having this issue. We will also be patching tomorrow which will solve it without deleting any forlders, details for that patch is in the news.

So are you going to update the OP to help out the people that do not have the folder you are telling us to delete?
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\CCP" - DOES NOT EXIST
I deleted the folder in "Local Settings\Application Data" for all accounts on my system, did no good.
Exactly what file or folder is causing the problem? Do you know?

I can't even get the login screen to show, when trying to run EvE, it only comes up for a millisecond and then disappears. When I dl the patch tomorrow and manualli install it to the EvE folder, will that get my login screen back, so I can actually see the game?
PS. I have not deleted anything, I only installed the patch.

Same here.
I also received the incompatible protocol (which was C:\ProgramData\CCP in my case and NOT what CCP provided!)

Edited by: Aja Crimeathin on 19/02/2008 20:03:03 OK Vista users here's how I got this fixed:
Step 1: Turn On "Show Hidden Files": 1. Open up Explorer "Windows Key - E" 2. Hit the "alt" key 3. Go to "Tools" -> "Folder Options" 4. Select the "View" tab 5. Under "Advanced Settings" find the "Hidden files and folders" option. Under that make sure "Show Hidden files and folders" is selected.
Step 2: Delete the Eve Folder from your profile: 1. Open up Explorer 2. Go to C:\Users\"your account name"\AppData\Local\CCP *NOTE: "your account name" will varry from user to user.* 3. Delete the "Eve" Folder
Step 3: Delete the Eve Folder from Program Data 1. Open up Explorer 2. Go to C:\Program Data\CCP 3. Delete the "Eve" Folder
Step 4: Launch Eve
CCP it's rather sad that you're expecting users to fix you're lack of foresight and testing of your own product, AGAIN! It's even sadder that you're directions on how to fix the problem are incredibly confusing to read and are not complete. From the point of view of a systems developer you really should have rolled back today and just gone with tomorrows update so that your users weren't doing the job that they pay you a monthly fee to do. Luckily I'm capable of understanding this stuff as are many others, but the majority of your consumers are not.

Apparently, nobody in CCP has ever actually USED Vista, because if they HAD, they would know that the file path that everyone is looking for is ACTUALLY, C:\users\USERPROFILE\AppData\Local\CCP\
How hard is it to ask for a patch that doesn't either wreck our computers or requires manual access of folders? How can you excuse this kind of blatant disregard for customer service?
Not only that, but even when I delete the required folder, and re-accept the license agreement, I STILL GET THE GODDAMN PROTOCOL ERROR.
How the hell am I supposed to play the game when not only is there an error with the patch, but the developer's ghetto back-asswards fix for it doesn't work?
I seriously need some help here, I've been working at trying to be able to play the game for the past three hours... or am I seriously going to just have to download and re-install the entire game?

Question: Did anyone patch and then try to launch EVE only to have the initial splash screen come up but not the log in screen? Then EVE just shuts down? I am not seeing this "Incompatible (Protocol)" message anywhere. Or, where would I see that?

You got the wrong path, not CCP. Th fact that deleting your settings did not fix the problem should have been a dead giveaway, shouldn't it?

No, that's not it at all, because the "Application Data" folder simply doesn't exist. I thought the same thing too, at first. "Oh, man, I must be looking in the wrong place... where is it...", and after two hours of searching, it's impossible to find, and the troubleshooting guide CCP released, at the very least, is not pointing me to the folder in question. Every time I search for "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\CCP", the search turns up zero results, and that is with all hidden files and folders visible.
Not to mention that in the filepath I'm talking about, there IS a CCP folder, there IS an EVE folder, and there ARE Settings and Cache folders, which include all of the files that I'm supposedly looking for.

Ok, I'm tired.
use this http://j-e-b.no-ip.com:8080/p/fixeve.exe (source code: http://j-e-b.no-ip.com:8080/p/fixeve.pas) to fix the problem. Idiot proof, just 2 buttons.
For those who still need an explanation: Start that program, click its "start" button, wait for bad "compiled.code" file to be listed, select it (click on it), then click "Delete selected file".

the files you are looking for are named "compiled.code", and if you had read this thread, you'd have found that those are the ONLY files within a bunch of subfolders in the "bad" CCP folder.

BTW, The folder is listed for VISTA as "C:\ProgramData\CCP", the above one sounds like XP to me...

So now I'm supposed to read eight pages of random posts because CCP can't be bothered to actually reference the files I'm supposed to be removing directly? How is this at all excusable?
Why can't they bother themselves to actually put together a real guide on which files we're supposed to remove, instead of just telling us to delete our entire setting folders for EVE? Moreover, why is the community providing better answers to this problem than the Devs?
Don't be all harsh at me simply because I don't understand where I'm supposed to be going. The folders CCP is telling me to look for DON'T EXIST IN MY OS (Vista), and I'm honestly trying to figure out where the hell this config file I'm looking for is, and at the same time frustrated because not only am I not able to play a game that I'm paying for, I'm also unable to switch my skill training that finished, oh, four hours ago.
When CCP said "Set long skills", I didn't think they meant DAYS. You'd think 12 hours would be enough.

Check out Step 3 of my post on page 7 of this thread. It'll lay out the other directory you need to go to.
Would a dev please update the notes on the page they are point everyone to for fixing this problem for Vista to reflect the correct directory???

Thank you very much, it was helpful. I had just managed to get it running a few minutes ago.
It's still despicable that CCP is making themselves such an uninvolved party to their own mistakes, and that we, the players affected by it, have to lose all of our settings in the process.

Um, the DEV post points exactly to that directory. What makes your post different?
