The lag was caused by a node dying today....shortly afterwards (an hour later or so) things picked up again...thankfully that does not happen that often and is only a minor annoyance.

Hi all I thought i was going mad until i found this thread. I have had ctds for the last 48 hrs. I always crash to a grey screen. I have lost 50 mill worth of minerals. I too am with Eclipse which i notice some others are. It seems to have occcurred with the sudden increase in player numbers. Previously i have had very few ctd and never a grey screen ctd. I have petitioned CCP and feel that it is their problem that is causing me to have a problem Those of you who are more technically mined / computer literate than me keep up the good work tracing the problem. A full defrag a nd reinstall did not help.

There's no reason to believe that a defrag would help. All it does is rearrange the data on the disk. It doesn't change the data and the rearrangement is invisible to applications. Even the speed benefits are questionable with today's disks and Windows caching.
I don't think this is directly a CCP problem. The connection issues were there 24/7 over the weekend and seemed unaffected by the number of users on the server. I suspect the problem lies with a router owned by CCP's ISP (Iceland Telecom) or possible one owned by Cable & Wireless.
Hopefully an administrator will arrive back at work today, take one look at the logs for that router and reboot it. -- (Battle hardened miner)

I started playing this game yesterday afternoon (about 4pm) and straight away was recieving this problem of disconnections.
I almost gave up because it was happening literally every minute while I was trying to create my first character.
But after finally rushing a character through, I've not had so many problems. Now it happens in spates of 2 or 3 every hour or so (this is while having the client running from 4pm til 11pm).
My connection is BT Broadband (512k) and I live in South London. Has anyone in the EVE Administration got a reply?

I've heard nothing so far.
I'm hopeful that when I get home tonight it'll all be solved but that is assuming that whoever runs the server couldn't be arsed to provide support over the holiday weekend.
The culprit servers appear to be either C&W or Iceland Telecom. I can't see C&W not having 24/7 support so my suspicion is focused on Iceland Telecom right now. If the IT router dropping the most packets is a dedicated Eve router then it's all the more likely.
I can imagine that IT aren't covering Eve routers 24/7.
If it isn't fixed I'll fire off a couple of emails to the router adminstrators. One would hope that the emails will be read and dealt with appropriately. OTOH anyone operating a router that allows it to struggle on for several days without resolution is probably not a competent administrator in the first place.
I have an open petition which might get dealt with today as well.
Basically I think I can give this a week to work through all the possibilities and then the only solution is to cancel my account. Eve simply cannot be played if your connection drops two or three times an hour. -- (Battle hardened miner)

Usually, yes.
The final *s aren't important though as they relate to machines inside the CCP firewall. The firewall is sensibly blocking Pings so you can't trace into it.
I have emailed the support people at C&W and actually have a ticket number (from a bot). Hopefully this means my email will eventually be read and looked into. How much good that will do, though, I don't know. -- (Battle hardened miner)

Glad to see im not the only one with a problem on Nildram. since saturday i think i have not been able to play EVE without being disconnected from EVE every like 10 mins or so. Every other game is fine, just seems to be eve, so guessing there is a problem somewhere between nildram>eve servers.

Those are the same ones the rest of us are having problems with. The fact yours are at hop 11 and 14 simply means that you have more hops and in network terms (though not necessarily geographical terms) are further away from the servers.
About all you can do is what I've done so far (but don't let that stop you, the more who do the more attention it will get):
* Petition CCP This should be your first step. Regardless of your opinion of them you should make them aware of any problems you are having. Even you get a standard and irrelevant boiler plate response if enough of us email it should eventually ring alarm bells and get escalated to someone who knows what they are doing.
* Contact your ISP Although the routers are unlikely to belong to them they have a vested interest in resolving the problem since different ISPs can follow different routes and thus in a sense at least it is their problem. Changing to a different ISP might cure the problem and obviously they'd rather we didn't do that.
In my case the ownership is going: Nildram->AboveNet->Cable&Wireless Nildram can't control how AboveNet routes but they could contact them and express concern. Alternatively Nildram could change their routing to avoid AboveNet and go via someone else.
Unfortunately there's likely to be politics involved in such changes (Nilly might have a special relationship with AboveNet) so you shouldn't expect this to happen.
Ultimately you can't blame your ISP for any of this and anything other than concerned interest and sympathy from them should be considered a bonus
* Email the owners of the suspect routers. If you use whois (search the web) you can find out the address (both physical and email) of the registered operator. Email them and ask for assistance.
------------
At all stages be polite. Try to avoid interpreting and drawing conclusions unless you know that you know what you're doing. The wrong conclusions will either mislead them or cause them to ignore you as a crank. In fact I'd say that if you don't understand tracert you ought to avoid emailing the owner other with a one or two line query. -- (Battle hardened miner)

Hmm. We'll I've now been online for nearly 90 minutes and no problems so far. Perhaps it has been fixed.
I've also been regraded to 1Mb from 512kB but I don't think that would have an effect.

I doubt it was the Eve server reboot. The problem started Friday night and the servers were rebooted several times after that. I think someone got back from a long weekend and kicked their router. Whoever it was needs to either do their job properly or get their boss to sort out a rota for 24/7 coverage. -- (Battle hardened miner)

I think this is a different issue than the one in the UK, and I have it as well. 2 accounts lag me to desktop, and actually kill my dial-up internet connection entirely. I've only ever had this problem with eve, and it has been only there for brief periods (shortly before Castor was another time). I still have this problem today and just can't run 2 accounts at all ATM.
I'm also in Canada, so I can't very well blame the ISPs you folks are talking about :)
Quote: Running multiple accounts at once seems to suddenly be an issue. If running 2 or 3 accounts at once it for no reason will crash out randomly on at least one of those accounts if not both. This started for me late Thursday the 9th and has continued through today.
Very annoying, and has cost me 12 Ogres so far ..
I am with One.Tel btw, and up til this point apart from the patch induced bugs, Eve has been remarkably stable for me.

I've been dropped from the game consistently for about about six weeks and counting. I'm in US, I know it's not my ISP, all other online games work perfectly, and have had no other problems with my PC.
I've been told to change my RAM, change my video card, and reinstall my OS. There is no need to do this since I know my PC has a clean bill of health.
It's starting to seem like one needs a PC specifically for EVE. Something that is so not worth it... |

Yes, it is also still happening to me. It is 7:40am in London right now and only 4000 people are logged onto Eve. Yet I have already had 5 drops in the past 20 minutes. This also means my internet connection is killed.

I'm getting this problem as well..
I dual log constantly, and was on just last night with two accounts with no significant problems.. the occaisional disconnect, but nothing to worry about.. then I get on tonight and every 10 minutes, one of my characters drops.. I thought it was maybe someone who got ahold of my password and was bumping me out at first, then realized it was just dropping me repeatedly.
I have a question though.. has anyone been getting this error that doesn't use multiple logins? I seriously hope this is just bandwidth overload and not something wrong with multiple login.. (I'm sure multi-log is low on their priority list for any fixes)

Oh, and I'm in the US on some random cable network. I can't even run a tracert because they have filters in to block tools like that, for some odd reason.. go fig.

Muliple logs should be a VERY high priority for CCP. Hundreds of users do it, and many, MANY players opt for a second account after playing for awhile. 2 account/1PC players are revenue CCP can't afford to do without, especially since in the absence of recent bugs it's so easy to get 2 eve accounts running on one PC. Just fix whatever lag/memory/whatever problems have crept in over the past few weeks.

Canada here. I'm not a computer expert, but I thought I'd post anyways. For about 5 days now I've been lagging out in all kinds of ways, but it's only getting worse. As it is today I can't stay on the server for more than 15 - 20 minutes at a time. I feel like I've been mugged. This happens only AFTER I buy a 6 month account
Be nice to see a Dev responce to this thread, if only to assure us that this is temporary. My whole corp is suffering the same thing as me, just at different times.

My husband and I are in California, using Verizon DSL for our ISP, and have had the same problem since 4/15. We were both averaging 1 CTD a week previous to that, now it is not unusual to crash to login 3-4 times in a 3 hour period. I don't have this problem with other MMO's and can still d/l and surf when EVE dumps me. Just found this thread so will see if I can try the tracert tonight. This is beginning to sound like there's a problem with Iceland Telecom, though. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hypocrisy is the homage vice pays to virtue. - Franžois, duc de La Rochefoucauld |

I emailed the Support people using this website and after a week got a reply telling me to contact my ISP as it sounds like a fault with them. I think this thread kind of proves that unless we ALL have problems with our various ISPs from around the world, then its not that problem??
They also asked for a normal tracert and dxdiag.
I will email back and send them what they want, but also direct them to this thread. It seems very odd that there has been no official statement on this problem which is affecting many of their loyal users.
Good luck!

I am also suffering from this problem. My ISP is Alcatel (one.tel) and I am in the UK. The game mostly dumps me every 10 minutes or so with a "connection lost" though now and then I get away with as much as a couple of hours.
Nothing wrong with my internet connection or running my other online game.

I've had this problem off and on since end of March and opened a ticket then. I still get it off and on - sometimes it dosen't happen at all sometimes it happens when I jump, dock or I've even had it when I try to use an after burner. I opened a ticket with Eve back in March and have been told that it went to the developers but haven't heard anything back on it. I opened another ticket the other day referencing the original ticket and was told it was still being looked at. I have a brand new computer less then three months old and of course the first thing I was told to do was update all of my drivers etc and or format and reload the computer.

Ok, after reading this thread I¦ve brought it to the DEVs attention and they should get on it soon.
Now, the ip 166.63.217.6 is the last machine that will answer, the server (157.157.139.10) does not respond to ping requests.
So, if you are disconnecting frequently try to grab a tracert round the time of it happening and if there are timeouts ( * ) or multiple spikes over 250ms on some of the "bouncers" he might be causing the trouble.
Hopefully this will be solved or reduced shortly. ____________________________
