I agree, although I'm possibly slightly biased being a fellow Aussie.
The only problem with that system was the fine was AUD$50 if you didn't vote, so when I was travelling during election time, I used to pay my brother AUD$50 to go vote on my behalf to save the fine and the hassle of postal voting.
Retorsion against potential non voters simply translates into increasing the number of registered votes at the price of the pertinence of the voting results since ppl end voting out of their butts. There are a number of countries which indeed implement fines if you don't go to vote and control carefully the ID of the voter. Argentina is one of them IIRC. Unfortunately this concept doesn't solve the problems of political corruption by a single iota...

You got any facts to back that up, or are you just stating an opinion?
I understand why the statements you make about RL politics, but IMO; I seriously wonder if all the reasons RL politics have evolved the way they do, are a relevant comparison for 'politics' within EVE.
Particularly given a representative council that; - Does not have decision making power and only has recommendation power - Is effectively volunteer - Has limited ability to leverage RL value from participation - Is in an MMO where the rules can be changed by CCP at anytime it's looking stodgey.
Hell, it's meant to increase efficiency of issues reaching CCP, not to provide a salary to politicians.

Wait... wait... you guys in Australia have an "abstain" option on the ballot, and everybody HAS to vote ?
YOU GUYS ROCK !
Seriously, it's like, THE only reasonable thing to do with an election

my point was that at least if we used a compulsory voting system, more people might actually have taken notice of this or become interested.
and as for the abstain option in the Aussie political system - there's not actual 'abstain' you can choose, but you can fill out a form incorrectly to make your vote not count. It's not illegal to do so and commonly referred to as a Donkey Vote. ----------------------

Well there ya go, adding an abstain option would be an area to improve on existing RL systems

If you use a compulsory system the people who get involved because of it will be more likely to vote without consideration which will skew the results towards the people who like to blow sunshine up your ass.

There are just a little bit over 6 hours of voting time left.
I will inform all the candidates of the results before making them public, it should happen in less than 24 hours.
I did send an e-mail to all candidates when the processing was done, please make sure that your spam filters (like on yahoo.com or hotmail.com don't swallow the mails). ____________________________

The number I'm most anxiously waiting for, even beating if I'll get elected or not, is the total number of votes cast...
Seeing the post read counts in this forum makes me worry a bit...
/fingers crossed (for a high total of votes cast)

Ms. Zuni has my support for the CSM. Zuni is the best hope for anyone who feels that something more than a simple game exists inside this star cluster. As we all wait for results, it is my hope that whether or not Zuni has been elected, she will continue to fight for the concerns of her supporters.
Null sec corporate and alliance concerns will certainly receive some portion of representation. We can only hope that high-sec politics, industry, faction, and matters regarding content receive a fair share of representation as well. Both are important and depend on one another in so many ways. |

Your idea of how they should poll is like abolishing local and state governments and have a only a federal government run and entire country.
A bit USA centric. Most of the rest of the world live with only 1 level of government with true powers. Regional governments in other countries are very different from state government in the USA.
