Hi guys, this isn't some anti-CCP rant before anyone says. It's not even a rant :)
Just wondering as it's potentially business suicide and who ever thought it up - Never in a company I was in charge of...
So I heard they have taken away the 30 day GTC. Replaced it with a 60 day GTC at double the price. Ok, makes me frown but nothing major. But wait, it's double and EXTRA. Ok now it's ripping off. But as I said I will not turn this into a rant.
To save me typing it all out again this is what I already explained on an alliance forum after stating that I will have to sell up and move on:
Quote: I can only afford 30 day. Not my choice. I have ú30 a week to live on.
ú10/week bus (damn oil prices) ú10/week food (if I eat M&M's and greasy sausage baps) ú10/week bank (Need money in reserve as everyone knows for the weeks I don't get the ú30 'cus the *** government don't let you have it if you're ill for even a day)
ú0 left.
I can only afford it now 'cus I loot my bank once a month. I'm not doing that twice a month... My ú30 stops at the end of the month, what am I gonna pay with then? [Edit - Took out a load of stuff about my career choice that you won't be interested in]
Basically... yes. I have no choice. gg CCP... gg
So in my last few days of EVE I was wondering if anyone else is in the same position?
gg CCP

Wow some people really are dumb. CCP have raised the price. They can do this whenever they want. If you dont like it, leave.
If you cant afford it, either a) wait for inflation to push up your wage b) get a better job c) quit.

I assume this is about the GTCs being 60d and no more 30d and 90d.
Subscription price is exactly the same, it's only GTCs prices that have changed.
Use a debit card, pay monthly. Screw GTCs. . |

Let me get this right. You barely got money to spend, (and i will ignore that you then spend it on mmorpg), and you take at the moment one of the expensive options: buying 30 day gtcs. 90 day gtcs would have been much cheaper.

However believe it or not some places like where I live only have full time available. Something I can not do. If you can't use the common sense to realise that then again, I cba to spend the effort to read your post.
If your bank account went constantly bouncing up and down from the ú0 mark then you wouldn't link it to your account either which is why I have to use GTCs.
As for credit cards... Where do I start... Really, what a stupid thing to say to someone with no money.

I too think it was a bad move to go to the 60day cards. What I find more disturbing is the insulting nature of this community.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that if you have two accounts then its more money up front, a little over double by my math. Sure you get a month where you dont have to pay but is that the point?
I would say however, that you may have to go elsewhere to have a constructive conversation. People will have lots of highly opinioniated options and suggestions for you :) -------------------------------------------

i do sorta see where OP is coming from,
I've recently just been made redundant and with the credit crunch in UK i've had to switch to buying GTCs with isk to play the game. Luckily i've managed ot get about 300mill in th elast 10 days s i'm on my way to buy a 60day but when ur on a tight budget for any reason its a struggle to keep up with things u love doing. Thi sis first time in 4 yrs that i've had to pay using isk and am lucky enuff that corp mates also offered to donate isk to my wallet to help pay fo ra GTC if needed so i could continue playing.
if ur part of a reasonably sized corp ask for a doanation of 500k - 1 mill from your friends. its not a lot from each person but will soon mount up an help u stay ingame.
Also as someone else said, before ur time is up set a massive skill level going like BS5 (use a bare jumpclone with no implants for more time if needed) and save up for 2 months and buy the 60 day GTC, that way u can then begin to pay every 2 months and u have battleship lv 5 out the way too. if u run lv4 missions then u can get 400 mill in 2 weeks by looting and salvaging the wrecks even in a high sec agent (just moved from dodixie) thats plenty for a 60 day GTC with isk too.
All in all if u really wanted to stay in game u'd find a way to do it.. I did

While I'm not in your situation I do understand the price changes and the impact it will have on pilots.
I don't think I would continue playing if my marginals was that close to living tho, no matter price change or not - at least for me real life is always more important than New Eden, even though they are close
Either way I wish you the best with what you will do in life if you do quit and I am sure we will see you back here some day.

Make 150 million ISK a month, pay for subscription. This is about 15 hours of mining, 10 hours of running level 4 missions or killing 0.0 rats, and and hour or less trading depending on how good you are per month.
Also if you are so poor that you cannot afford to pay $15 monthly for a computer game the you get your priorities straight and don't play pay to play games until you can earn enough money irl to afford it. Trying to live beyond your means will always leads to problems.

Its nothing to do with sadism!
I did a three year, full time, degree course, AND worked weekends, and I had a damn sight more than ú30 per week in my pocket, AND I got the qualification I wanted. The problem is, everyone wants handouts nowdays, when really you need to get off your arse and go earn the money.
Credit crunch?? Learn to manage your finances and dont get into unmanagable credit situations. Simple as. It really grates on me when I see news programmes with people moaning about unemployment and you can see a lovely, shiny LCD TV in the background!
Anyway..back to the topic..as the poster above says, save up for a while, and then buy a card. If you have to go without for a month to save the money, then tough!

Edited by: Jack Gilligan on 16/06/2008 13:35:20 CCP raised the price so as to make a bigger "cut" from RMT ($ for ISK), no other reason.
What they should do is be honest and admit to that.
I think they need to flat out implement RMT or ban it completely (I favor the latter) but at the very least, they need to decouple it from game time codes. Getting rid of the 30 day code is going to cost them players and is a bad idea.
The only good thing about GTC for ISK sales is that you could essentially play EVE for free by funding it with a couple evenings of ratting. Now that this burden more than doubled, I wonder how many players who couldn't otherwise afford to play EVE will leave, since they will basically have to take up the (unfun) life of a Chinese farmer just to keep playing...
The bottom line is that RMT is either good for EVE or destructive to EVE. It can't be both, and the $$$ going to CCP or to some 3rd party doesn't make any difference at all as far as the game is concerned. CCP stands on the hypocritical line that $$$ to them=not harmful (despite the fact that it is RMT for ISK) but $$$ to IGE or some other vile farmer company=end of the world.
This is very similar to the hypocrisy governments engage in with respect to cigarettes... If the product is deadly and harmful, make it illegal! But no, governments are too "addicted" to the tax revenue, so they won't make it illegal, but will instead maximize their cut of the profits by ratcheting up taxes in the name of "public health".
Same thing is going on here with RMT and EVE. CCP's official stance is that cash for ISK is a game economy killer. I happen to agree. But they won't outright ban ALL forms of cash for ISK, they allow the methods that result in CCP getting the cash, such as character transfers (CCP pockets $50) and GTC sales (CCP pockets $35 now for $30 worth of game time). The increase in GTC cost to be out of line with subscription rates amounts to the same hypocrisy of raising cigarette taxes "in the interests of public health" when the real interest is in lining CCP's pockets.
Again, I have no problem with that, CCP can do whatever they want, but AT LEAST BE HONEST ABOUT IT!
No one should take a word of CCP's doom and gloom stance on RMT as truth until they ban ALL forms of it. Both the kind that CCP gets revenue from and those where they don't.
My opinions are my own and do not reflect those of my corporation or alliance. |

Yes us that pay for GTCs using isk can afford to do so.... For us only. I may get 400mill in 2 weeks but i dont play the game just to pay for it, i want shiny new toys as much as the next player and then ammo/fittings/new ship if thigs go t.its upwards on a mission ect. Any person skilled in thier ingame proffesion should be able to get enuff cash to at least cover themselves. He may have to save up fo ra coupel months and pay with cash for his first GTC but he then has 60 days to get say 500mill to be on the safe side. if he spends that first few weeks gettign the isk he has the rest of the month to play it as he wishes, just make sure u have the isk in ur wallet incase u cant find a GTC in time lol
Also, a 90day GTC was only max 450mill how is a 60day GTC goign to cost 800mill? Have i missed summat?

Well thing is, it's exactly when you DON'T have money that using what little you have left on EVE saves you, as spending time outside your home often costs WAY more. Not to say it should keep you from applying for the occasional job though

I have a friend who says he cannot afford this game period, not even $12-15 per month it costs. This summer he says he will be working 3 jobs to keep afloat of his financial situation.
He has been paying with ISK all the way from the very beginning. As a newbie he went through several trial accounts gathering the required sum to earn a 30 day code and from there on he said it was easier. Right now he is part of 0.0 alliance and he makes ISK farming rats for certain number of evenings every month. He has also been lucky with exploration a few times. He pvps with any extra ISK that he makes.
Really don't know anyone who is feeling like they are forced to leave the game because of this change. The subscription through the website is keeping same. And all of the people I know in game are quite capable of generating 150 million ISK monthly so no one has this kind of problem.

What inflation?
The cost of bandwidth and hardware actually goes DOWN over time, not up. Bandwidth is way cheaper today than it was 5 years ago. Hardware is also cheaper relative to what it can do.
Sure, wages go up, but CCP has the advantage of operating in a place with relatively low wages and cost of living compared to Europe and the US.
Plus they have had the advantage of the rise in the Euro's value. Consider that they buy their hardware in dollars (from IBM in the US) but make most of their money in Euros or Pounds.

At the point where the small amount of money that Eve costs to play becomes a problem, Eve should be the last thing on your mind. Seriously, if you're over the age of 12 its trivial to pay for Eve. In USD its 50 cents per day when the minimum wage is $7/hour. So you need to work about 3-4 hours per month to afford Eve at minimum wage. No sympathy from me.

Hope he gets to a better financial situation in the future, even if EVE doesn't come into play.

That's all I'm hearing. Personally, in your situation, I'd stop buying time codes and spend a little more on food. ú10/week? I've no idea how it's even possible for someone in the UK to survive on that much. I know I wouldn't be able to.
Basically, when spending only that much on food, surely you have greater concerns than internet spaceships?

Kind of realted but I just read a news story where the farmers are losing money becuase they don't have casual workers to pick crops. It's usually done by foreign workers and students.
Now I realise the op may not be within reach of such an opportunity and the following isn't related to the op. But there is always a way of earning. The thing is in the UK no one wants to do it benefits are too easy. A farmer offered a job picking squash for ú7.50 and hour outside a job centre and the guy refused it because it was beneath him.

I can believe it. I imagine that when he's down the pub drinking away his dole money he's also slagging off "..those damn' foreigners who steal our jobs". You can grind enough ISK for a 90-day card (or 60 now, I suppose) in 2 days of L4 missions. yeah it's dull but then you get the other 58 days free. And you don't have to declare it to the DS AFAIK.

Nope, it's 8 cents and a half more, per day. If you use GTCs.
It's the old price if you pay by cash or debit card. 14.95/month, and you can pay monthly.

Im currently a student studying in the UK (Im guessing that where your from), and I have a student loan, My loan doesnt even cover acomedation, and I have a job that barly covers it, so what I do I buy 3 months for EVE in advance so I know that its covered.
That way I know I have a cheaper option of spening 60 pounds on 2 acoutns in eve over 3 months, or spending that in a night out on the the drink up with friends. I know the later sounds mor fun, but in the end what is it worth, and is it worth the expense...

Dunno how this would work n the UK but I know a guy in the states who has a wife that won't let him take one dime from the regular income to play a game... here is what he does... and he has little time to farm for isk.
He got a no charge checking debit card first. Then he started selling blood once a week. Put the money... think he said it was 10-20 bucks US... in the account. Use the debit card to pay long term.
I know it sounds a bit lame... did to me at least... but now he plays and it adds up enuff he only pays in blood (literally) once n awhile now.

MJ, getting GTC's with some hours of missioning should sort your problem.
And as other stated : I think you're dishounest about "no jobs". When I was 17 I shoveled cow**** for 5 hours / week, and made 40 pound in those 5 hours, netting me 150-160 pounds a month. There are always jobs.
And no, there won't be many like you, since they all found a way (work) to make it possible to game/go out.
We did an enquete last year on the highschool I work on, and 65% of the students have evening/saturday jobs, and we live in a very rural area.

LMAO @ selling blood to play eve. That ought to be reserved for substance abuse tbh.
If the problem is just the timing and you can afford the rate increase, here's what you do:
1. Let your account lapse for a month, put the money you would've spent on eve in a shoebox.
2. The next month, put the eve money in the same shoebox. Well lookie thar, you got 2 months' eve money. How'd you do that? Go buy 60 days.
3. Next month when you would've paid your bill again, stick it in the shoebox.
4. GOTO 2
Or quit in protest, up to you. ___________________________________________

Up until recently I was an IT Consultant for a bluechip company. Situations changed for me and I'm now looking for some late night shelf stacking jobs to keep the cash coming in and to keep me busy. Its money in the bank and it pays the bills.
Young folks today have a very odd attitude to money/wants and needs. I was watching a TV documantary about a young 19 year old girl who had a 15 month old daughter and was also studying for a degree. She was struggling to make ends meet so decided to do pole-dancing and lap-dancing. She stated catagorically that working in a supermarket just wasnt enough. Anyway they follow her off to the stripclub and she does her 4-5 stint till the early hours. They then ask her how much she made. After paying the club ú85 to dance and then the clubs cut of her takings she had made ú15 for 5 hours work!!!!
Supermarket doesnt cut it eh?
To be honest whilst you may feel the whole world is against you, if I was in your shoes and on ú30 a week, not being able to play Eve would be about item number 95 on my list of priorities to sort out ASAP.
Sit down, have a good long think about what is really important and necessary and make a plan.
Trust me. Eve is NOT necessary for you right now.

OP, would you mind telling us the area you live? I live in a small city up north, 80k people, and jobs are out there for anyone who wants them. WANT being the key word, sounds like you're just being lazy.
I worked a paperound for 12quid a week, that ALONE could pay your sub, are there no newsagents near you? My first proper job was as a waiter for 3.50 an hour. It's ****, and low pay, but it was pay none the less.
I don't receive any EMA, never have; it annoys me that people get money just for going to school, where as others get nothing; just because my parents get x amount of money sure as hell doesn't mean I see any of it, but that's another rant!

And that's assuming you don't even get any discount for buying two months instead of one, at a time.

Jesus, I cannot believe there is sympathy here??
I guess I'm one of the few that finds this laughable. Go get a job. Stack shelves, sweep the street, I don't care. How come people who want to work find jobs (Even part time ones) easily, yet those that want to be slackers sit around complaining "oh it's so hard, give me handouts"
I went to college to learn stuff, not cos the Government was paying me to go so that they can massage the unemployment figures.
I think you need to look at prioritising matey, that's what you have to do in the real world, though I guess you'll go straight from EMA to Jobseekers by the sound of it.

Lets stick to advice not the "I pay good money to support poor people" argument which is completely wrong in my veiw, and also not for this forum.
I apologise if I've offended, but amidst the rant was a point - Prioritise. I'm sorry if people can't afford to play this game but in a contest between eating and playing internet spaceships, er, eating wins.
The reason I got so irritated is the hard done by attitude - "Oh I only get ú30 a week" (which is the usual EMA amount and why people assumed that) or "I don't get paid if I'm off" (hey, guess what, neither do I!) - and I'll admit that it is partially because in my day (I feel dirty now - I'm not that old) we went to college to learn, not to get paid, if we wanted money there was no choice, get a job.
Another point I worth noting is that this change isn't coming in to cost people more money, it's coming in to stop europeans basically scamming the ****ty exchange rate to the dollar.
